@JourneymanGeek It seems soon enough the only ball left to kick will be the one where enough people quit that the shareholders get concerned and force change
@Magisch the answer is off-color, come on, and barely logical. Extreme cases can be a reason for expediency, not lack of community supervision. Also, not even hinting that he gets that we want a procedure to rebuild trust and this process doesn't do that is "papering over the cracks"
@DavidA In Persian ancient folklore, there's a main protagonist called Rostam. He ends up separated from his son Sohraab, and his son grows up and ends up in an army invading Iran. The father stabs the son in a 1-on-1 fight, and the king stalls the "remedy" until the son dies. Pretty great story. A proverb originates from it, "to bring the remedy after Sohraab has passed"
I know Tim, he's a great guy. I'm pretty sure he's stuck between a hammer and an anvil, but still he wanted to greet George. The only problem is that he misjudged how far beyond this kind of stuff the situation is at, already
@Magisch And so, the stubborn paladin Seer continued playing on that small UO shard, even when the average online users count was 5 at max on top hours.
@Magisch If I were even more cynical than I am, I'd suggest that it's the ancient strategy of Divide & Conquer at work... But I'm too good-hearted & optimistic to suggest that. ;)
The SO mission statement on Twitter is "Building communities where everyone who codes can learn and share their knowledge". I wonder why they never updated the one actually on SO...
it's great to see overwhelming support for George, considering how the community tended to situate itself with respect to his stance on a lot of matters
@AndrasDeak George always had the respect. Many didn't agree with his position on one issue or the other, but he was always willing to defend his actions and rationale and fair to a fault. The exemplar of what SE management should have been like to actually make a positive difference instead of ... this
@Shog9 The only complaint I have about all y'all is we don't see enough of y'all unless things go bad. I trust most of you to at the very least care about the network
I always liked reading George's perspective on things, not because I always shared it but because it was always robust, well defended, compassionate and formulated from a desire for the best for the community
@AndrasDeak eh, you know I didn't agree with him much but he could at least keep discussions civil (sometimes hard to have but civil) and I respected his position was what he thought was best for the community
@OrangeDog Well, just saying it's no longer 3.0 doesn't mean it really is no longer 3.0. As far as many of us are concerned, the statement you'd replied to is correct.
@rene BB: I thought it was good. Not as good as other people thought it was.
@rene EC: A worthy epilogue to the original series.
As animuson wanted this phrased as a question:
Are you sure you're legally allowed to relicense all content without asking the copyright holders (i.e. all contributors) individually for permission? If so, by what justification? As detailed in other answers it looks like CC-BY-SA 3.0 doesn't allo...
@LightnessRacesinOrbit I was more saying "oh you sweet summer child"
@GeorgeStocker based on your recent action, I understand this never happened... or he did, and that mission isn't what you expected. Either way, I'm really sad to see you go.
@Shadow I don’t want to besmirch anyone who works at Stack Exchange but from my perspective a solution that builds on the community we have and the people we want to welcome will require 180 degree change on how Stack Overflow operates with regards to the community. I do not have faith the CEO will make the changes necessary to ensure that happens.
> "Things are a mess fer ya 'cause ya think time an' space are objective things. Y'now how time seems down when y're waiting? Fact is, time is simply a creation of your human consciousness. What is there ain't no human beings anywhere in the world? Wouldn't clocks and calendars be a waste? Maybe there ain't no such thing as time that flows in one direction from the past to the future, and never was dontcha think, ma'am? Human beings are slipshod to begin with, so there ain't nothing strange 'bout time being slipshod too. If ev'rything was all hunky-dory then THAT'D be weird. The only certai…
I deleted my Facebook profile over a year ago due them meddling in worldwide politics and selling their users private info. I decided to quit any SE activity due to the company neglecting its most respected users and series of bad actions which are surely going to only get worse.
@Shadow there was a scene in MIB where he says “we never just look at the stars anymore”. Moderating is a lot like that. I hope I’ll be able to go back to answering questions and helping others outside of moderation.
I'm mad as hell but I'm trying not to care. Because my caring achieves nothing but my own sadness. Ironically it's sad to have been put in that position.
@LightnessRacesinOrbit not weird, these days many people from SO visit MSE to see what's going on, and when asking question don't notice they're not on SO.
@LinkBerest Beautiful Dreamer does not have a manga version if that is what you mean. Mujaki does indeed appear in an episode roughly based on a manga chapter but that is. The movie plot isn't referenced in the manga. That said what I meant is that after all her wish was basically for everything to just never change - and the manga basically ends that way.
@OrangeDog My question "which one" was in response to LinkBerest saying "Maybe I really am riding the turtle", which from my understanding referred to the Diskworld novels. "The Light Fantastic" is the second part and conclusion of the story started in "The Color of Magic".
This year's Winter Bash got us great hat challenges, but it also gave us a very nice tool for knitting on the main Winter Bash site.
Is there a challenge related to this knitting tool?
Here is my knitting and it would be amazing if you could share yours too.
I'm never here for those things (Winter is crazy level of work here; except I always get the Christmas hat cause that is the most boring day of the year for me). Didn't realize how much I was missing out on
@SPArchaeologist-様 part of me hopes he will, as this must have impact on that ivory tower. But other part want Shog to be happy, and no idea if such a move will really make him happy.
