9:00 AM
@Magisch you realize that this is very close to what I said yesterday about being able to see the dark side? :P

^^

@Magisch freezing? Parrots are tropical birds. Freezing them is mean and unwelcome!
transporting may be okay, depending on the location you're taking the parrot to.

Really? I've heard they're pretty cool with it.

@ShadowWizard That sounds like you're trying to get parrot on a stick to roast it over open fire. That falls under 'no burning' :P

@JohnDvorak audible groan

@ShadowWizard I'm sorry. I didn't know.

@Tinkeringbell no no, just poke. :D

@ShadowWizard Only if parrot deserves it.

@JohnDvorak all good, me neither, it popped as one of the first results for "frozen parrot". :)
(wanted to post some funny picture, but....)

How come there's no emergency exit emoji?...

9:05 AM
@JohnDvorak They did that just to annoy you.

sauce?

@ShadowWizard probably fake
I've seen dead birds
they don't look anything like that

@JohnDvorak Personal experience. Perfect back up :P

That's a sad story though :(

it's definitely not a real story tho

9:06 AM
@doppelgreener oh one the with the dead bird.

nooo the other one.

I've heard someone used their freezer as a punishment (not long enough to kill the bird). The parrot's response was - What did the chicken do?

@JourneymanGeek because they were never frozen?

@JohnDvorak giggles

9:07 AM
(of how we found a dying dove, called a rescue... and went to check on it... and suddenly, it turned out someone threw it, alive into the bottom of a full trash bag)

gets glared at by co-workers

@ShadowWizard eyes wide open, flat position...
would you be calmly lying down if someone was trying to drown you?
Almost certainly plastic

@doppelgreener why not? I can totally see this happening. e.g. my daughter used permanent marker that can't be washed away to write "DO NOT OPEN" on her drawer, not knowing it can't be removed. 3 years old kid might not grasp the fact that freezing a parrot will kill it.

@ShadowWizard the parrot looks fake ;p

9:10 AM
also, I suspect most house fires happen due to kids playing with fire, unaware of the danger.
@rene not for me, missed the first one. Flag it and link to the first if you can, such user should get a suspension.

@ShadowWizard reddit comments go into it, but basically if a 3 year old were to try to stick a parrot in a plastic bag and put that in the freezer, the parent would instead find a plastic bag half torn open from the inside, a parrot covered in blood, and a mauled child

@ShadowWizard most?!

@doppelgreener if the parrot trusts the kid he won't try to fight when being put in the bag. As for trying to tear the bag, well, can't know how animals react to extreme cold...
@Henders I think... maybe Google has some stats, dunno.

@ShadowWizard if they work like cats, they will, trust me.

Maybe 50/50 with electrical malfunction of devices.
@Derpy they're not. :)

9:15 AM
A moth once wandered into my fridge. I never saw it fly away.

We could just ask the parrot thing on Worldbuilding I guess? Or Skeptics XD

bilology

@ShadowWizard What about pests? Apparently, mice cause a huge number of fires by chewing through electrical cables.

I saw fluffy nicey kitties remember their lion heritage when you try to put them in a per carrier. Don't underestimate the power of "you won't take me to the veterinary"

9:17 AM
@Tinkeringbell or pets, if you're serious. :)
@Henders hmm... interesting, but still, doubt it's common.

@Henders There was a news article just yesterday about how farmers are no longer allowed to use the most aggressive means of pest control for mice, and how that has likely led to an increase in barn fires that kill loads of animals

Q: Fish "coming back to life" after being frozen

SIMELI've encountered a clip on Youtube showing a goldfish thrown in liquid nitrogen and immediately after to normal water and swimming normally. In the explanation to the clip it says: For everyone that is worried about the goldfish, it survived and was perfectly fine until we fed him and a few o...

If a fish can... maybe parrots as well... :D
@Tinkeringbell ouch... why disallow aggressive pest control though?

@ShadowWizard found it, left a comment

@ShadowWizard I'm not sure, I can only guess there were side-effects?

@rene Comment isn't enough, OP will post it again in few days.

9:23 AM
@Tinkeringbell stuff that poisons rodents poisons other things

hmm... since first suspension is only 7 days it won't stop them either. So guess it's pointless to flag. meh

@Tinkeringbell Yep, apparently Christmas trees are a common one too. Once the real tree dries out, it's basically just a bunch of kindling sat in your house.

@ShadowWizard flag it so it can be on a record
it's rarely pointless to flag

@Henders Yep. Another one that I know is charging devices and cooking. We actually had a cooking related fire at home once (Small, and contained, but we did need to repaint the ceiling in the kitchen)

Wowouch, scary.

9:25 AM
@ShadowWizard customflagged it

@doppelgreener nah, I'm not flagging.
May 14 at 19:24, by Shadow Wizard
I had a time when my flags took over months, so I gave up.

Building outside our old flat set on fire once. Woke up with smoke filling my apartment at 2am o.o

@Henders whoa... anything happened?

@Henders It was really weird... Mom noticed it, and then screamed for dad because she was frozen...
Was the day before christmas too

;p Apparently my desk concerns some of the SU folks. I have a ton of stuff that needs power ._.

9:27 AM
@Tinkeringbell Yep, I understand the freezing. The fire dept asked me a bunch of questions when I called them. Some I just couldn't answer because my brain didn't work.

Power Desk?

@ShadowWizard Naw, just an outbuilding so no one was hurt, which was good. It smoke damaged a bunch of stuff. Had to wake the neighbours up etc..

@Henders fire is scary, no doubt... had to fight a big fire once, it wasn't a big pleasure. (forest fire)

Mom promised she'd help me shorten some pants. So she put a pan on the stove, with some butter already in it, ready to turn on as soon as she was done pinning the pants at the correct length. In a move of automation, she already turned the stove on too. So halfway through pinning my pants, she looked into the kitchen and saw the flames...

@ShadowWizard 2 monitors... 2 PCs, speakers headphone amps...

9:29 AM
@ShadowWizard I got a firefighter uncle. For me most big fires have been more than pleasure, they've been great fun :D

bias lighting relays...
oh, powered USB hub and I don't even know what else

@JourneymanGeek whoa... recipe for overheating! :/

@ShadowWizard seems ok so far
I do plan on reorganising it eventually

@Henders oh... glad to hear. :)

now my dryer
that's a fire trap

9:31 AM
You keep hair dryer on your desk? :D

tumble or hair?

Our clothes dryer has burnt out its plug once, caused power tripos...
@Henders I THINK you were around for that story ;)
so we have one of those plug in breakers

Ah yeah, maybe

@Tinkeringbell yeah, when cooking with oil/butter I often reach the point when the stove starts to smoke badly. If fire isn't turned off, it won't end well.

9:32 AM
Can't be too careful!

@JourneymanGeek clothes dryer?

yes
like a washing machine?
but blows air to dry clothes?

ohhh this one

ours is a bit special
the door latch is broken so we use a magnetic latch I built myself...
the belt fails every so often...

I got one too, the kind which put the water inside it and I have to empty it every time.

9:34 AM
0_0

But it never over heated or caused any power problems.

this is really old and we should probably get rid of it ;)

@JourneymanGeek think it's called condenser or something like that.

delint!

also one of the heating elements is borked

9:35 AM
@JourneymanGeek just buy a new one... :)

@ShadowWizard my parents won't

Why??

... cause...
IDK

Shouldn't cost a lot.

9:37 AM
@ShadowWizard Yeah, condenser dryer. The alternative is to blow the moist air outside instead of collecting it

@Henders true, but it requires the dryer to be next to a window, which isn't possible in our house design. (Not with non trivial changes that aren't worth it)

@ShadowWizard Yep, or smashing a big hole in your wall to put a pipe out.

Yeah... so we just spent some extra $$$ and got the brand which saves all that hassle. :)

Even with a hole in your wall, you still need to be next to an exterior wall so it's quite limiting.

(spent even more to buy a familiar and trusted brand)

9:40 AM
Also a good step, IMO

I just thought of a proper analogy! Whenever we touch an open wound, even by mistake, it hurts, and makes us whine about the wound again even if it's few days old. Only when the wound heals it no longer hurts to touch the place where it was located.
</smart-moment>
:P
!!/coffee whole room

@ShadowWizard brews a cup of Cappuccino for @whole

Hey! What about @room?!
in Shadow's Den, 19 hours ago, by KennyBOT
~ Where is everybody!?!

10:12 AM
@ShadowWizard so we need to lick twitter? Or is the wound ISP? Do we lick ISP?

@g3rv4 this room is still frozen, just posting a message does not unfreeze a frozen room. You should click some button to unfreeze it. :)
(For you it appears not frozen since you have diamond so you can post in there)
@AndrasDeak ewww lol bet it tastes awful. ;)
The wound is the loss of trust between SE staff and us mortals... can't leak it, I'm afraid. :D
It can be healed by simple dialog: we say something, they reply. Better sooner than several weeks or months.
But... well, it's still open.

10:32 AM
@ShadowoftheShadow'sShadow but also better that it's backed with action

It's called dehydration

@ShadowWizard all gone

@JNat thanks!
status-eating-hot-hot-dogs
@SmokeDetector fp-

@ShadowWizard Enjoy! I had egg-salad sandwich for lunch. Hot hotdog sounds better :)

I had an almost illegally delicious salad

Well I also took coleslaw salad and bread to balance the tastes. ;)
@Tinkeringbell good egg salad here is rare for some reason. The boxed version cost a LOT, for 300 grams I have to pay 27 NIS, about $7
So I rarely have egg salad. :(

@ShadowWizard I don't know what you'd consider 'good egg salad'... but for me that's a lot of eggs, some kind of paste/sauce that holds the pieces together and a bit of chive mixed in :)

10:56 AM
All other salads cost half than that.
@Tinkeringbell homemade? The best, but I'm too lazy to even try making it. :D

Egg salad isn't the hardest to make, if I understood correctly ;)
@ShadowWizard Mine was storebought. Someone home-made it though XD

ehh that's good!
We have cheap boxed egg salad, but it's just... not good.
@Magisch details!

@Tinkeringbell Paste? Like PVA glue? :p

@Henders I think that isn't edible? :P
I should've specified 'edible' I guess XD

Hmm, it would hold it together though... :p

10:59 AM
@ShadowWizard coleslaw, greens and cut onion with a nice mustard dressing

1 day old porridge. That's like concrete!

@JourneymanGeek And to think that all started because of a wrong word.
I bet no one would have felt hurt if they called them sea ponies instead

@Magisch sounds nice. Custom made? Or did you buy it from a shop as-is?

@ShadowWizard self made

@Henders why.... ?? :D
@Magisch yeah that's the best. :D

11:04 AM
If it dries it is one of the most difficult things to get off a bowl.

@ShadowWizard There are relatively few prepacked salads I like
I'm a glutton for cut onion, for one

@Derpy huh? No... it started when they made major act on a whim.
The rest is only ripples of that action.

@ShadowWizard Take a fork. Take three hard-boiled eggs. Mash eggs. Take a spoon. Take mayonnaise. Put a spoon of mayonnaise in the mashed egg. Mix. Take pepper. Sprinkle depending on how much you like pepper. Mix. Eat.

@Henders lol I didn't mean why it's like concrete, I'm well aware of that from army days, asking why did you eat such a thing? ;)

@ShadowWizard It's quite filling, I guess..? It's nice to have warm food when it is cold outside

11:07 AM
@Magisch what does it mean?

@Mithrandir It's like having shog in the room :p

@Mithrandir still too much work. :P

@ShadowWizard I really like lots of cut onion in my salad
and pre-packed salads dont come with that
in fact, I add onion to a lot of things because I really like onion

@Henders so eat a soup... hot chicken.... hot bread aka toast.... why porridge?! :)

Can't eat soup for breakfast!?
That's madness

11:08 AM
@ShadowWizard ...takes less than 15 minutes, unless you're really bad at mashing eggs

@Henders ohhhh thought you mean lunch

Oh, no! Porridge for lunch?!

2 PM here now

That's madness

@ShadowWizard look, I just wanted to post a joke and not to restart this again, but for me the fact that some messages staff members posted weren't exactly nice in regards of the community is far worse than acting on a whim. They are free to act as they want, the network is their and we are just guest here. But I would hope to not be considered a thorn in the side or a sacrificable resource.
But really, please, if we really have to at least let's move this to another room, would we?

11:09 AM
@Henders let's vote for @Mithrandir to be @Shog's heir! :P

@Mithrandir No, don't mash eggs with forks. Use an egg cutter!
And a really good home made egg-salad has some garlic sauce.

@Magisch oh, nice... I also had lots of onion added to the hot hot dogs. Still have, I got a huge dish, saved half for tomorrow. :)

Is that the kind of thing you can vote on?

@Henders sure! I hereby vote for Mithrandir to be the next Shog of the Tavern! :D

@ShadowWizard Down this road lies madness.

11:12 AM
Shog was mad, in a madly funny way.
:)
We need some madness here!
@Mithrandir still 15 minutes more than just buying something ready from a shop. ;)

@Tinkeringbell cut not the eggs, shape them you should

Talking about egg salads feels normal enough :)
@Derpy That's going to be one chunky egg salad then, or those are really small shapes... and then how are you going to fill them without making an absolute mess?

@Derpy too late, it's already re-surfacing over and over. Did you see my wound analogy? I'm rather proud of it. (:

@Tinkeringbell I've got an egg cutter. I use it more as a musical instrument than to cut eggs.

@Tinkeringbell those are as big as an egg. You boil the egg, peel it and put it in the mold while it is still hot.
the idea is that the egg will then take the shape of the mold.

11:15 AM
@Derpy Ohhh. Chunky egg salad it is!

It used to onebox once.... :(

It actually kinda works.

> Easy-to-use mold works like magic on a just-cooked egg; put shelled egg in bottom, close, and put into cold water for 10 minutes
@Mithrandir when using egg cutter I more often cut my fingers than eggs. o_O ;)

@ShadowWizard WHAT? yeah, right, ooooooooook.

@EKons there was 1... back before MSE/MSO split... then everyone moved to MSE

 The SO Tavern (Free Snacks)

Room 5 was frozen for inactivity even though it was once an ac...

11:17 AM
@Derpy hmm? Just quoted Amazon page...
@Somewhat Tavern started long before the split

ok, then please I summon forth the power of the Grammar Na Owl.
@JohnDvorak a shelled egg is an egg with or without the shell?

@Henders hmm... on second thought, why won't you keep the house warm even when it's cold outside, this way you can eat even cold breakfast and still enjoy. :P

@ShadowWizard Porridge is cheaper than central heating :P

lol
@Derpy ehh, pretty sure "shelled" in this context means with a shell. @tchrist is even more Grammar Guru, but not pingable...
Also, you can't peel a boiled egg right after it's boiled, it's way too hot. No?

1) No
it means shell removed
2) IIRC and I'd never peeled an egg - you would shock it in ice and then peel it?

11:24 AM
hmm...

those things won't work unless you use a peeled egg.

@JourneymanGeek Peel it while rinsing it under water of a temp you can bear, if you don't want to get your egg too cold.

@Henders OK, but what porridge? And did you add chocolate? ;)

Think about it... Do you really expect the mold to be able to change the shape of the shell?

@Tinkeringbell I don't eat eggs ;p
so.. probably that

11:25 AM
@ShadowWizard Nope, a bit of honey

@Henders ok, that pass too. I approve. :D

\o/ Victory

I eat either bread with some cheese, or granola to which I add sliced chocolate.
(and with milk)

eats noodles for tiffin

@ShadowoftheShadow'sShadow thanks! It’s properly unfrozen now :o)

11:31 AM
@g3rv4 cheers!
You can put a bot that auto posts once a day or so, to prevent freezing. :)
(Not feeds, those do not prevent freeze)
trying to recall why my sock as such a long name

@ShadowWizard Because socks deserve epic names
Mine are mostly named green-left, green-right, blue-left, blue-right and black-with-a-hole though.

Found why!

Shadow WizardFew examples across the network: MSE: Physics: IPS.SE: Can this please be fixed? Pretty sure it's related to the responsive design or left nav bar somehow, though can't see what's really causing it.

Wasn't able to reproduce, probably because sock has posts.
(at first I thought bug affects only users with long display name)
@Tinkeringbell rofl! What about combo? e.g. green-left & blue-right?

@ShadowWizard I think sometime next month my Alzheimer socks will arrive :D
Those are made to mismatch :P

ugh... I'm worried about Shog. Not a single activity in the whole network for 10 days. Really hope he's in holiday of some sort!
!!/whereis Shog

@ShadowWizard No such command 'whereis'.

11:49 AM
@ShadowWizard he's on vacation
no need to panic.

@JourneymanGeek He picked the right time to vacation haha :p

omg.... this is so relevant now... almost like Shog is a prophet!

...and besides, if anyone does have something to say about it, they'll say it on Facebook or Twitter. Which is where it'll be announced and promoted and hopefully found before sinking beneath the waves.
also, I miss that room! ^

2 weeks later "What'd I miss while I was gone?" "Oh the entire core userbase hates our guts right now and we caved again to twitter pressure. Just a normal thursday really" :p

hehe
And he can totally say "I told you so!"

11:51 AM
And he will

Let's hope he'll be back here...

He might even do a "I'm away for 2 weeks and you guys do WHAT now?"

lol
Like leaving kids alone at home

@ShadowWizard I'd say he's especially unlikely to come back in here at this point :p

Twitter became a Q/A site to curate knowledge. On SE you can leave short messages about those Q/A's posted on Twitter.

11:54 AM
With their weird reply mechanism it's indeed Q&A, yeah. lol
@Bart why? Nobody is pinging him... he can't do more harm than already done... :)

wait a second... you are telling me that shog still probably ignore the mess that happened because he is on vacation?
oh, that will be a funny comeback then.

(he said he left because he became more a problem than helpful)

wait! so maybe shog was the "obnoxious, small and vocal minority resistant to change"??

nah Shog isn't vocal
or small
:D

you forgot one word O_o

11:57 AM
I don't see him as someone who yells IRL... more like someone who prefers action over talking.
@Derpy but he is only one, hence minority. ;)

I have a feeling shog is the guy irl who rarely talks but when he does people listen

Exactly ^
That's what SE probably needs now...

where's that Hangouts session with Shog...

calling Shog to cut his vacation and rush back to save the sinking ship
