@ShadowWizardLoveZelda Can you please add meta.stackexchange.com/questions/285048/… as a duplicate target to meta.stackexchange.com/questions/229551/…?

@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog Not if it’s not a web standard. I’ve seen examples in the past of APIs not implemented because they would be a privacy or security risk (can’t point anywhere specific at the moment).
If I’m not mistaken, Google has a habit of making APIs incompatible with other browsers, that other browsers are then forced to implement some way or another, because website developers think the only valid browser is Chrome.

In my defense, I Googled Browser and Chrome came up on top ...

Chrome's pretty much the new IE - and I miss the short period we didn't have a browser monoculture

Remember the days we had this IE6 Must Die! vibe ...

yup
and lets be honest, we only have 2 1/2 browser engines these days

@AndreasmovedtoCodidact Okay, yeah, if it wasn't actually added as a web standard until, say, 2022, then it's a different thing. I thought it was added around 2020, which is when Firefox began supporting the feature.
That said...
@Cerbrus On the other hand, doing so is tantamount to censoring the site to those who are unable to use supported browsers for whichever reason. Compatibility fallbacks aren't nearly as necessary as they were back in the 1990s and 2000s, and for the past decade browsers have supported a common set of features. I should mention that the opposite holds for Android app development: developers often target earlier versions of the OS, 3-4 versions earlier, to ensure nearly everyone can run the app, rather than always using features only available in the latest version. — Sonic the Anonymous Hedgehog Mar 23, 2022 at 14:10
@Cerbrus There is absolutely no reason for a user not to be able to use a browser that supports [new feature]. Some users are using machines that don't run newer browsers. As a couple examples, this includes users of PowerPC Macs: TenFourFox, what may be the last modern browser for that platform, was recently discontinued. Also, Google discontinued Chrome support for users whose x86 CPUs don't support SSE3. This especially applies to users in developing economies. — Sonic the Anonymous Hedgehog Mar 23, 2022 at 17:37
I'm sure Aaron has something to say about it.

@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog Who in their right mind still uses a PowerPC Mac for web browsing?

@AndreasmovedtoCodidact That's true - I was coming up with some outlandish cases in writing that comment. But there were enough people doing so that TenFourFox continued to be maintained until the end of 2021.

I need to be given a more specific task than that in order for this to work

@ShadowWizardLoveZelda 2 x 0 for you :(

7:39 PM
@Marco can be 2 x 1 if you want, I don't think I'm really much better than you, it's just matter of seeing ahead few steps and avoiding mistakes. :)
Your turn to challenge me again, let me know if you do, don't think I get a notification for that?
@M.A.R. oh no, you have clogged the Chimney now! :D

Nice, sure, we can play again, do you think I play very badly? I haven't played chess in a while and I confess I have no experience...

Not really "badly", probably with bit more practice you can be better and win against me.
@M.A.R. six days but how many hours? If you give ETA, give it with more accuracy! :P

@ShadowWizardLoveZelda Nice, thanks! :P

@starball & @JourneymanGeek That "bounty to a suspended user" situation meta.stackexchange.com/a/399378/334566 is rather unusual. The suspended user is a respeceted senior member, not just some kid looking to make quick rep via genAI. He's been an active member for >15 years and has >1M rep. So it's all a bit surreal.
