We don't know whether they have a wizz-team of ninja coders working on the core site making it absolutely fantastic, or whether they have bill the gardener doing maintenance
Before you post your question or make an argument, you might first want to get an answer to the question "Are developers being pulled from current work and diverted to new projects?" first as a basis.

@hichris123 It varies. A significant effort is in all of those things, but we also have bandwidth to work on stuff that the community wants. Right now, we're working on making figuring out what happened to your flag much less confusing, overhauling the review history stuff so you can better see the longer-term effects you have on the site through review, overhauling the vote fraud scripts to be much smarter and a bunch of other stuff. @Kit Sure. But it was also lazy wording on my part. I don't really share the complaint here. I guess my real point was that you can't just out and ask "Is the blood and guts of Q&A moderation being forgotten?" without having a more concrete premise.
Because it assumes that new projects are taking away from development time that could (and would) otherwise be spent improving "Q&A" features, and that assumption may not be correct. So you have to nail down that part first.
Well be clear when you say "trivial" because this word is often miscommunicated. There's "trivially useful" and there's "trivial to implement", which are different.
You don't want different people speaking different languages with that one.
And I'm sorry, @hichris123, if I am coming across as a total douche. I'm coming down from a first-day-back-at-work. User wants to assign priority 1 to all the tickets, and thinks I'm an asshole for 1. declaring that only one thing can be first and 2. that revenue stream is more important than fixing the font in that one section.
They're both valid points, and both important. The fact-of-the-matter is that SE are in charge, and make the decisions. So you can let them do their thing, or you can click on Jobs and apply for a position there yourself
Because as soon as there is a "We're working on the one-boxing for Wikipedia", there will be 800 comments about how it should be 1200 different other things to be worked on instead.
Well everything that starts out that way slips as it grows (PHRASING), that's natural. So consider that, and that SE has "slipped" less than so many other companies have slipped too.
@KitZ.Fox Yeah -- the bikeshedding part comes in. I'm more of talking about the 'we're thinking of building a second bathroom' or 'should we renovate the kitchen or the master bedroom first?' kind of discussions.
I don't even mind the crappy site. The high level fact is in 2012 I had an awesome health care plan. In 2013 they were driven out of the market by the changes and now my plan is 3x the cost with 1/3 the benefits. Fail.
As for the site, that contractor got fired a while back, thankfully.
Last time when I visited overseas (London/Amsterdam/NY) , I met up with no one. And I thought I knew my online buddies for years ... yet no one wanted to meet up with me - and I am such a nice person in real life! :p
To be fair, there was someone who was interested in meeting up in Amsterdam dam square, but I was in a hurry to meet another rl friend & there was a lot of people at the square so I did not end up find him.
So yeah, I'm picturing a city rife with dodgy back-alley florists, rose junkies passed out in the gutters, triumphant customs agents seizing pallets loaded with counterfeit petunias...
