Q: Introducing the Developer Story

bluefeet TL;DR; We're replacing CVs with something you can use even if you aren't currently looking for a job. Update (Jan 4): added an FAQ section to address some common questions & concerns We've had a lot of announcements lately about changes to Stack Overflow, including the addition...

nice

the link leads to a huge "ARE YOU THINKING OF
BUYING A NEW CAR, VAN OR MOTORBIKE?" then ask you to pay. If user is not spammer, he could just post relevant parts, or screenshots.
It's just a not-so-smart spammer trying to cover the spam.

"This won't be rolled out for 6-8 weeks but, in the meantime, let us know what you think!"
of cause

9:20 AM
@rekire not it's not.
This is a death blow to Careers. Really. It was nice to have, but not anymore - at least for me. It's not just moving the cheese around, which is fine, it's making the cheese into yoghurt. — Shadow Wizard 21 mins ago

Careers was nice, but they really ruined it.

@ShadowWizard I'm not convinced

@ShadowWizard why do you think that?

9:22 AM
@rekire see above it, the comment I linked.
The CV/resume was vital part of Careers and worked just fine - that "Developer Story" can't really replace it.

I agree with out that should not replace it. It should be an optional extension. I have not read it completely... I mean that would be nice to point out some features you like in your app/website/whatever

@StéphaneMartin "You probably signed up to Stack Overflow to help developers and/or to get help" No, I certainly did not. I signed up for Stack Overflow because I agreed that creating a repository of lasting information, of answers to every programming question, is a noble goal that I could help with. Instead of facilitating this goal, Stack Exchange has encouraged "asking" (i.e. requesting the over-incentivized rep whores to do your job for you) over answering, focused on quantity of quality, and made the quality bar harder to maintain as a moderator. — bjb568 1 min ago
Becoming a social media site does not help achieve the original goal of creating valuable, lasting information. By focusing on "more features so people can help more", you further dilute the value in Stack Overflow. We don't need another Linked in, we need a site that helps programmers in the way the Stack Overflow was originally intended. — bjb568 1 min ago
