In 2009 on SO there was a sizable group of people who were of the opinion that anything should be on topic as long as you asked it in the context of programming or being a programmer.

Leading to things like the infamous boat programming question.

My blog joke is just that I expected tech people to see the word onion and immediately think of Tor, and then from that, start thinking about anonymity.

Yeah, after we discovered it, we thought it was for logging in with Tor...

we didn't get that far

It's more obvious in the other direction (anonymity online, to Tor, to onions). But I figured it was linked enough to be a valid hint. And they can't all be easy.

I remember the days when I tried to bypass the suspensions with socks on a game forum. Eventually mods got tired of it & since then I was never banned again.

No I didn't ... not that elite. If my memory serves correctly, someone did piss the big guns off by hacking the game itself. Sysop got mad, modified the code & no one ever saw the hacker again

Now think about it, none of my bans in my entire life was ever warranted. I only got suspended because people got all emotional.

@ShadowWizard nope, it still takes 30 minutes on average because it's refreshed once per hour. But if you change the avatar 59 minutes after the last chat user update, i just takes one minute :)

@Telkitty Speciesism is a real problem on SE.

I think we need more cat and duck moderators.
