@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog I didn't understood what he's asking. I close voted. There are already 4 votes are there in queue. Later I found Tim's comment
I'm re-opening this because I think I figured out what's going on. — Tim Post ♦ 2 hours ago

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog My mother-in-law to this day thinks I'm a director at the Stock Exchange. I don't have the heart to correct her, or the emotional wherewithal to explain what I actually do.

@TimPost when I got the T shirt, my father asked why I got a t shirt from stock exchange? He want to know whether I trade in stock market or not

just smile .. and nod ... and encourage A or B questions to which you simply answer "yes" a lot. Heck, if you could do that, you'd make a great community manager.

he may find money SE helpful
from his profile, he was born in 1955. 10 years older than my father O_O

5:58 PM
@TimPost director of the stock exchange would probably be a more prestigious title though, right?
At least better compensated

@TimPost What I meant to say was, very nice sleuthing work!
@TimPost It was closed again, so what do you want to do?

I'm being pestered now for LOLing when my wife stated that a work colleague was going to be off sick for '6-8 weeks' :)

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog The user got a response and knows we at least tried to look into it for them, so that's fine, I think.

6:33 PM
I remember that user... I also remember I commented something like "Quora is not Stack Exchange"...

6:44 PM
@Magisch I'm sure having some money is helpful but there is a limit somewhere when you no longer care how much you're paid. You don't get happier.

yeah
it's been studied that limit is somewhere around 80k a head

@Magisch That much?

@Shog9 @TimPost What is the current reason for not implementing this feature request? It was declined by Jeff, but that was heavily downvoted.

...didn't this just come up like a week ago?

@Shog9 No, that was for showing users a full list of their own deleted posts. This is different.
Unlike that one, there's a chance Jeff's reasoning may still apply. Is that the case?

@TimPost There ought to be a way to opt into getting notified if a post you closed gets major edits
Thread ^

@Shog9 I wasn't a participant then

pretty sure tim has me on ignore though
which I still dont know about why

@Shog9 Summarize please?

tl;dr: it's feasible, but not via the inbox - we'd need some sort of rollup or profile page or per-person queue to expose these.
Alternately, a system allowing folks to subscribe to notifications on any post of their choosing would both suffice for this and solve a great many other problems.
Unfortunately, none of those are trivial features.

@Shog9 Is there any non-technical reason why the request is still declined? If the only hurdle is technical, it should be .

6:51 PM
The last in particular has been frequently requested for 8 years and still isn't available.
Sorry... Nine years
@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog because it's not even something we can reasonably dream of implementing.
It's the "wouldn't it be great if we had flying cars?" of SO

@Shog9 So...that's the current philosophical reason why users who downvoted shouldn't be notified of edits?
Can you please post an updated answer?

It allowed to have nightmares ...

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog this is why trying to separate these things into "technical vs philosophical" doesn't work very well.

@Shog9 Okay...it would be great if you explained it in better detail in an updated answer to that question.

Hello,
Any SO moderators here?

6:56 PM
I have nothing useful to say there that hasn't already been said.
Philosophically, it's a good idea if we can put an upper limit on the amount of noise that is generated. IOW, the utility of the idea hinges on the technical approach. As with almost any feature

SO mods... not really, but we have CM here

Just wanted someone to unfreeze a chat room.

7:12 PM
@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog closed now. I assume the OP will complain a bit.

7:44 PM
@Royi Just ping any one among AaronHall Bhargav Andy Undo Yve and send your message. They may notice it. They're the regular members here.
But that might be a big no I guess

7:57 PM
@Shog9 What if you made a tab in the user's profile that was just a list of all the posts they downvoted? ;)
@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog I don't necessarily think that many users care what happens after they downvote. There is a way to at least see what was downvoted, and to be honest, I would be rather shocked if many users ever went through that list to see what became of the posts.

@Magisch I do not. I'm just in inbox hell

@TimPost - Is that because of your recent FR? Out of curiosity, was that your idea or are you just championing it?

8:35 PM
@TravisJ we have that already?

still think that notification thing would be nifty btw

Yup, we do. If users were so inclined, they could at least go through from time to time and look, maybe even for the past day. However, I would be shocked if anyone had ever done that more than once. The click through rate on the downvote tab in the actions tab on the profile is probably statistically 0.
I just don't think many users care enough. Should make "downvote and move on" t-shirts...

I used to, back before we got spoiled with all of these notifications ;-P
originally, it was the only way to know if someone replied to your comment

lol
So maybe we need less notifications :D

I would also want notifications when moderators respond to one of your flags with a non template message though

8:43 PM
I second the vote for less notifications

And yet, I have faster notifications turned on in chat...

I like notifications
probably influenced by the fact that I get very few of them

I don't like getting notifications when they're people arguing about something irrelevant in comments on posts I write... though, that won't be a problem any more. :P

ahww blue people are here
leaving room

9:00 PM
The new question filter stuff is a lot of fun

9:13 PM
saw this in fb

@OptimusPrime You know there's a thing that lets you make your own?

@TimPost @Shog9 What do you think of the feature request to disallow users from deleting their own questions within 24 hours of the first answer being posted? This would take care of the edge cases where a user is able to delete their question and the answer hasn't had a chance to receive any upvotes.

Q: Disallow deletion of questions for 24 hours after last answer was posted

Jirka HanikaCurrently, authors can't delete their own question if it has multiple answers if it has a single answer with one or more upvotes, even if it has a negative score if it has an answer with an awarded bounty I ask that another criterion be added, to prevent authors from deleting their question w...

A: Rant: Owner Deleted questions -- there must be a better way

Tim PostYou might see this in tags surrounding things people try to accomplish at work, so it's no coincidence that you'd observe this with Excel. If you've put a substantial amount of effort into something that was deleted before it could be up-voted in the course of the question author deleting their q...

@Catija Out of curiosity, are you planning to bake anything for Bennett's second birthday?

9:46 PM

9:57 PM
@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog Not really sure right now.

@Catija Anyway, you guys have fun. I won't be able to make it as I'm arriving late at night that day

We won't be in town, anyway... that's part of why I'm not sure. My dad wants to host the party.

10:18 PM
@Catija I really would like to try one thing you bake, ...maybe another time.

10:29 PM
Not sure why anyone would flag the shirt steaming message, but there is no need for that.

1 hour later…
11:54 PM
Lol what?
You really do steam shirts with a steam iron or garment steamer...

I have one... a garment steamer. I've used it ... twice.
