I vtced as unclear what he is asking

well, I hope it's not closed as dupe!

Hmm. I suppose i can dupehammer it

5:59 AM
unless your delvote is binding too, dupehammering will probably give a wrong signal and the (awoken) community will probably go 'huh?' :)

@JourneymanGeek It looks to me like someone was using a question as a place to take notes to themselves, and then tragically pressed the submit button.

umm,, not with title already filled...

@SomewhatMemorableName Why would having the title filled in make it not a note to self? I mean, the title is pretty erroneous as written.

I think we're suffering from a case of interpreting sense into something that has none

Makes sense to me...

Let's make something sense from his network activity history.‌..
Like, the missing Informed badge on MSE, and instead posting an off-topic question...
Oh, hi @HendraSetiawan
Welcome to Tavern, a general chat room on Meta Stack Exchange :)
Ada yang bisa dibantu? (Is there anything we can help?)

I don't think they can chat...

Oh. Yeah. I forgot... 🤦‍♂️

Making good progress if they found chat at all to be honest.

What on Earth was this??????
@TravisJ not really, looks like some random troll who copy and paste random stuff.
@SomewhatMemorableName how's your throat?

surprisingly recovered well

Good! Lots of tea?

Yeah, kind of

@Somewhat shorter name...
expected changing to Somewhat Human :D

Rant time... SE has become social network, as they now focus on users and not on content. This "small" change is the last nail in that coffin, IMO:

Q: Come Take a Look at our New Contributor Indicator!

Tim PostWe've been doing quite a bit of research into ways that we could help new users have better experiences that ultimately lead them to becoming increasingly valuable, long-term contributors to our sites. While this is still ongoing, it's starting to blossom in the form of small but hopefully very e...

So... hope my dark omen wouldn't come true, but most likely it will. SE isn't special anymore.
Now more than ever, I'm almost certain that sooner or later there won't be a way to downvote, only upvote (renamed to "Like" of course), and that would mark the final ending of the "old" Stack Exchange.

me thinks thats a tad dramatic for just an indicator

@ShadowWizard I noticed the 'new user' icon (that small hand waving?) is used on Facebook groups as well to indicate new users ;)

@Magisch not really... that small indicator indicates big change in focus.

@ShadowWizard a lot of things are

It's a big "Hey, focus on the user, forget about the content!"

9:05 AM
I dont think they'll ever remove downvotes
if they do, i'll most likely just go

@ShadowWizard Oh... I saw a 'Hey, see this? Now focus on your own content!'

So people will now upvote just because the OP is new, afraid punishments... and crap will get positive scores.

@Magisch I don't think anyone on SE is dumb enough to mess with absolutely core functionality

Guess that in a month or so we can collect actual stats and see.

@ShadowWizard :/ I don't think I'm that easily influenced, that a single icon will change my voting ;)
@ShadowWizard :) Let's wait for those :D

9:07 AM
@Tinkeringbell of course! But put yourself as a new user who just gained the ability to upvote, and still has no clue how SO/SE works?

@ShadowWizard well, there's a few experienced/long time users who don't get that either ;p

So? You really think those will be upvoting even more?

@JourneymanGeek more likely they don't want to get that, yeah...
@Tinkeringbell yup
More upvotes on questions from new users, just because they're new. Regardless of quality.
Just like people click Like for anything on Facebook/Twitter

@ShadowWizard Hmmm... I don't know. I'll wait and see :)

@ShadowWizard in theory, you could do that from the new user review queue

user194636
9:42 AM
I fully expect voting to be entirely replaced by emoji any day now

😃👍

user194636
🙂 😐 😮 😲

The 🔽↔️: it can still end up a 🚂💥.
VTC: unclear how you are voting

@JourneymanGeek yeah, but you can also downvote and don't see "HEY! This user is new, treat them nicely!!!"
many white blank squares ^^^
Windows 7.... still no emoji support.
(Microsoft added it only for 10)

Have I already said the new new user indicator is a bad idea?

9:54 AM
@JohnDvorak no, I did. :D

Win7 does have some support

@JohnDvorak very partial

🔞
Time for your computer to grow up :D

@JohnDvorak it can't... it failed the test for Windows 10 :/
(back when the upgrade was free)
@JohnDvorak hehe, that one I see. :P

user194636

10:02 AM
show off!

@ShadowWizard Of course we can send you emoji's! :)

user194636
crikey!

hugggggge
lol

I knew that would happen though... I've had fun doing that before. :P

user194636
10:05 AM
The new icons might well be that size, to make them more accessible for users wearing mittens

@PaulWhite and using touchscreens? :P

user194636
yes!

user194636
wistful look whatever happened to mittens

What's a "mitten"?

You can't control a touchscreen in mittens

user194636
10:06 AM
Noun: mitten (plural mittens)
  1. A type of glove or garment that covers a hand with a separate sheath for the thumb, but not for other fingers, which are either enclosed in a single section or left uncovered.
  2. A cat's paw that is a different colour from the main body.
Adverb: mitten
  1. In the middle.
  2. Mitten auf der Straße lag ein toter Hund.
  3. In the middle of the street lay a dead dog.

oh... lol

> In the middle of the street lay a dead dog.

user194636
wikipedia is so weird sometimes

Having summer almost all year long, and warm winters, we don't really use gloves here.

user194636
@ShadowWizard which country is here?

10:07 AM
Not even when cooking?

I used gloves only during army...
@JohnDvorak I don't cook. :P

@PaulWhite They're mostly home-made now ;)

@PaulWhite that's not wikipedia, it's wiktionary. ;)

user194636
it's funny that "oven gloves" are called that (here in NZ anyway) rather than "oven mittens".

@PaulWhite Israel

user194636
10:08 AM
@ShadowWizard thanks

@PaulWhite welcome!

@PaulWhite Here it's ovenwanten... with wanten being mittens. So we're cool :D

Here it's also just "gloves for oven", no special name.

user194636
come to think of it, I have heard them called "oven mitts" as well

I do have these at home, using when taking hot things out of microwave. ;)

10:10 AM
@ShadowWizard We use potholders for that :P I don't think we even have ovenmittens...

@Tinkeringbell that's when I put it down, but problem is to take it out of oven/microwave...
oh, wait... thought "potholder" is what you put it on... see it's not. lol

The trick is to take the whole microwave

Two new words learned!
"mittens" and "potholder"

@ShadowWizard It... can be both I guess :)
@JohnDvorak And then burn your fingers on the plate when you try and poke in a fork/knife to get some dinner of the plate that's still in there? :P

Well, wearing those I won't be able to send any emoji, not even that huge one you sent before, @Tinkeringbell. :D

10:13 AM
You have to be careful to move around the plate

You can just throw the microwave into the freezer, wait few minutes and take the food out. :D

user194636

@ShadowWizard :D You don't 'wear' them ;) You hold them. So you could hold them and free up a few fingers, I guess :P Most of them have handy loops!
@PaulWhite Are we doing cat pictures now??? :D

user194636
well I hope I'm not setting a precedent but kittens/mittens c'mon

user194636
also: meow

user194636
10:16 AM
amazing level of detail in an emoji; I had no idea

@Tinkeringbell hehe, what I have at home is full scale gloves... :D

user194636
second one for mine

user194636
cute

@ShadowWizard Nice! Those must be very comfortable during cold winters :D

10:19 AM
full scale = all the way to the elbow?

@PaulWhite I personally don't really fancy dressing animals, but this cat looks like it's relaxed and tolerating it ;)

user194636
yes we have two cats and neither of us has felt the least urge to decorate them

@ShadowWizard actually.... if they clippied that...
"This is a new user - Are you sure you want to downvote them without a comment?"

"Are you sure you want to place a comment on that post? Be careful not to hurt the guy's feelings! He's new."

@JohnDvorak I guess the real question is "how to we effectively assimilate new users into the community"

10:27 AM
suppress all individuality

Well, hopefully no ;p

But seriously, adding the "noob alert" is only going to create more division.
Or to paraphrase yet another meta answer, the reputation is already a big enough indicator that the person's a newb.

@JohnDvorak I totally agree on both counts. ...

user194636
Their biological and technological distinctiveness will be added to our own.

ewww. I pass on the former.
THEY ARE MADE OF MEAT

10:34 AM
So are you

user194636
Good point. We may have to revisit that for v 0.2

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

and I (OvO)

@Bart that was the reference.

10:35 AM
🦉

@JourneymanGeek :)

@JohnDvorak AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
🍖🍖🍖🍖🍖🍖🍖🍖🍖

I guess the more important question -- as usual-- is, will there be any repercussion to users who aren't "welcoming" enough to "new user indicator"?
I admit I don't comment much to NAA, just doing double DV silently.

I propose new acronym LANU = Labeled As New User

@Somewhat Not really repercussion but their usercard will be shown with grumpy user

10:47 AM

@rene wears the grumpy user card as a badge of honor, I hear

user194636
😡

@Magisch check!

10:59 AM
@Magisch Rene is our CCO (chief closing officer), the badge was given as a sign of respect and thankfulness, yes.

1 hour later…
12:10 PM
@Tinkeringbell lol... not really! Can't do anything with them... (except take hot things out of oven ;))
@JohnDvorak no no... meaning they're around the whole hand, all fingers

@ShadowWizard You should really try building a snowman with them sometimes :P

This ^

@ShadowWizard Yeah. You can build a snowman with those :P

@Tinkeringbell think again! ^^^ :D

(And some snow, of course)

12:12 PM
@Tinkeringbell it will be a snow ball, not man. :P
I saw snow only three times during my life, so...

@ShadowWizard Awww! :( Next time we get some, I'll mail you some too :)

Though might see it again soon... is it snowing in Germany during September?

Snow is fun, and very pretty. Provided you don't have to travel :)
@ShadowWizard Depends on where in Germany you're going, but I'd say no ;)

The Black Forest (German: Schwarzwald, pronounced [ˈʃvaʁt͡svalt]) is a large forested mountain range in the state of Baden-Württemberg in southwest Germany. It is bounded by the Rhine valley to the west and south. Its highest peak is the Feldberg with an elevation of 1,493 metres (4,898 ft). The region is roughly oblong in shape with a length of 160 km (99 mi) and breadth of up to 50 km (31 mi). == Geography == The Black Forest stretches from the High Rhine in the south to the Kraichgau in the north. In the west it is bounded by the Upper Rhine Plain (which, from a natural region perspective,...

@ShadowWizard I don't think so.
That's not high enough to trigger permanent snow on mountain tops ;)

12:17 PM
Not permanent, "rainy" snow.. or whatever it's called... :)

Maybe if you're really, really high up. But I wouldn't get your hopes up. @Magisch claims it's still over 30 degrees C in Germany ;)

Actually prefer it without snow... with all due respect, I don't like cold.... :D
Maybe just see it, but not travel in it.... :P

We're looking at a september with consistent 25+C here

@ShadowWizard Snow is pretty to look at, to walk and play in. But yeah, if you need to travel, that's no fun. I do like cold, it means I can wear more socks and blankets :)
It also means hot chocolate and rum :P

@Tinkeringbell That does evoke a mental image of you sitting engulfed in 10 blankets knitting
In front of a fireplace

12:22 PM
@Magisch Ohhh... the fireplace. I had to scrap that pretty soon when I went apartment hunting :P Nope, not a fireplace, but I do sometimes snuggle up to the radiator ;)

@Tinkeringbell well, travelling alone I might agree to some level, but I'll travel with the kids....

@ShadowWizard Drop the kids at the entertainment team :P

@Tinkeringbell you living alone now?

@Tinkeringbell hehe :D

I remember you complaining about your brothers because you were still at home

12:24 PM
@Magisch Not yet. I just lowered my standards for an apartment again though, and am more determined than ever to find one. SOON
at this point, I've dropped to 'habitable'. So it doesn't need to have a nice bathroom or stuff, I'll just move in and renovate when I have the time/money. I've dropped the requirements for a bathtub, kitchen that doesn't mean cooking on gas, a laundry room and balcony

lol

@Tinkeringbell oddly, I need real fire to cook ._.
I don't like hotplates, and I probably have no clue how to operate a newfangled induction stove.

@JourneymanGeek I'm used to induction by now. I quite like it, and I've never managed gas. I always burn stuff when cooking on gas, either food or myself :(

12:27 PM
Gimme an oven and 2 burners and... its cooking heaven ;)

What about living with room mates? @Tink

@ShadowWizard Never again. Did that once during university and it's worse than brothers.

hehe
You probably were with male room mates, right?
What about female room mates?
They should be less messy and more organized... no? @Tink

Our Oven (which I love to bits, and I want to buy one when I move out... is something like media.karousell.com/media/photos/products/2017/04/28/… ) and we have never ever used the hotplates.

@JourneymanGeek nice!

12:30 PM
@ShadowWizard Ugh. Don't start on the female roommates please :/
Those were worst.

@Tinkeringbell whaaaaaat... lol

Although it may have been a matter of circumstances as well, I really didn't like it.

You just broke something I was sure about... :D

@ShadowWizard I'm going to type a very long story now, in notepad :P

I mean... I was sure females are more neat and organized, in general. :D
I admit not knowing enough to know for sure though. :) (lived with 2 only)
@Tinkeringbell for IPS? ;)

12:36 PM
So, when I started university, I had three other girls as roommates. We lived with a young family (man, women, two kids), that had a big house and needed us to pay their mortgage I guess.
We inhabited the four bed rooms in the attic, we had our own bathroom and toilet, and a pantry. But for cooking, we'd have to go downstairs and use the families kitchen. So the rule was that we'd all cook together, at once, a single meal every day for the four of us.
Two out of four girls were vegan, the third was vegetarian and then there was ... me. They cooked the grossest meals I've ever tasted, I won'
And that's why I'll never live with three other women/girls again.
@ShadowWizard Maybe, but not everyone. I mean, the living together didn't so much fail on neatness and organisation (although the hairs in the drain were gross), as on other stuff like habits

o_O
ouch

Totally see now what you meant.... lol

lol
@Tinkeringbell my female roomies apparently loved my cooking ._.

😕

12:40 PM
Which baffled me cause my cooking wasn't that good
(also veggie ;p)

@JourneymanGeek I... didn't mind some of it? But most of it is just gross without milk, meat or gravy ...

I lived with two male room mates for about a year as a student. To be honest, I don't remember having any problem with them.

@Tinkeringbell ... lol. I do ... kinda go nuts on the butter

Are they also univ students, or working females?

I blame my heritage ;p

12:41 PM
@ShadowWizard Well, the male roommates I've had after were definitely more messy ;)
@Somewhat Also univ students, all in our first year

@Tinkeringbell but why didn't you just ordered food? Or ate outside?

@ShadowWizard Money. Eating out or ordering in general is a lot more expensive over here than buying groceries and cooking ;)
Or you'd have to settle for fast food every time

... I guess that also sums up our first-year life...
._.

@Tinkeringbell sure, we don't clean, leave mess anywhere... but when all are doing it, nobody is bothered. :P

@ShadowWizard To be honest, I'm messy myself too. I do clean, but there's a lot of stuff lying everywhere, always :)
So it's a clean mess :)

12:43 PM
@Tinkeringbell heh, that won't be very healthy...
@Tinkeringbell lol

Same, no mess on the floor, only on the table :)

Clothes on oven? ;)

@ShadowWizard Why would you put them there? :/

@Tinkeringbell lol, not me... well not these days... but... if you are in kitchen, changing a shirt... too lazy to put the previous shirt in laundry... oven is there, big and empty surface....
:D
ahh... good old days....
:P
If I'll do it these days, wife will kick me out instantly.... :D

Why do you end up changing a shirt... in the kitchen? Does that mean the clean clothing ended up in the kitchen in the first place? :P
(I'm getting to the bottom of this manly mystery!)

12:52 PM
@Tinkeringbell step 1: take clean shirt from closet. Step 2: have sudden urge to eat something sweet. Step 3: go to kitchen to find something sweet to eat. Step 4: eat something sweet, with clean shirt still in hand. Step 5: read above. :D

@ShadowWizard Hmmm... how does your brain associate clean clothes with eating something sweet? :P

No idea! but it wasn't consistent. :D

Now I want to eat something too :P
brb ;)

Urge for sweets just... happens. Not related to other actions, as far as I can tell. ;)

(and no, I'm not taking a clean shirt) :P

12:54 PM
rofl

I would simply serve fried shirt for dinner and see how it evolves from there ....

heheh

1:08 PM
You monster. You steam shirts. And serve it with a side of pants on fire

@JourneymanGeek And dessert?

Underpants Brulee

1:23 PM
@JourneymanGeek spicy?

@ShadowWizard I no no. The pants are hot. The Underpants are Brulee.

@JourneymanGeek Maybe I can crochet some socks, using 'dropveters' :)

@Tinkeringbell not sure if I'm looking at licourice or black cat 5.

@JourneymanGeek liquorice :)

Last time I tasted a sock it didn't end well. :P

1:34 PM
@ShadowWizard Didn't? What about edible underwear then? :P

sorry, I am back.
"fun" is over.

@Derpy Hey, Journeyman started the whole stuff about bruleed underpants!
@Derpy Try me :P
I can make fun without being uncouth ;)

No. I started with a bad joke about hot pants.

@JourneymanGeek True... that was a horrible joke :)

Also the fun isn't over. I'm watching a James Mickens talk ;p

1:38 PM
@Tinkeringbell but I started the whole clothing thing, so I'm to blame! :D
oh no
hmm.... if one is making others to behave uncouth... what does it make them? ;)

@Tinkeringbell that's why the word fun was put between two ""

@Tinkeringbell I can answer when there won't be uncouth alerts flashing all around... :P
hmm... new command suggestion: !!/uncouth [message ID] will post the above image as reply to given message. ;)

@ShadowWizard :D I guess we really shouldn't though :P

@Tinkeringbell Thats when you resort to guerilla tactics like eating food that doesn't need to be cooked

1:45 PM
@Magisch that's either expensive, or fast food... neither is good for long term. :/
Or live on salad... which I guess is possible, but for one who isn't used to it, pretty hard.

@ShadowWizard eh, expensive is relative

@Magisch well, @Tinkeringbell said it... :)

I was gonna say how I rarely use my cooking field but I actually do use it frequently to make mashed eggs and veg

Not sure mashed eggs is considered cooking...
If so then I do cook, a lot. :D

@Magisch Bread and sprinkles everyday get's boring. I must admit there were days where I just resorted to a bag of chips :/

1:47 PM
eww
That's the worst.
So much salt... and chemicals... with unknown names...

@ShadowWizard I usually just toss everything I'd like to eat for the evening into a pan

Though chemicals are anywhere...

Well everything I've mathed out with the nutrition chart, but it usually eats as a vaguely undefined mass of scrambled eggs with some meat and vegetables

@Magisch hehe, that works :D

@ShadowWizard my friend tried to live with salad for dinner. He said it was more expensive than the usual dinner o_O

1:49 PM
I usually just scramble eggs, not adding anything else.
@Somewhat even when buying only the vegetables, not ready-to-use salad??

@ShadowWizard Right. So, that says a little about how much I hated the vegetarian/vegan food. (I've since had some good vegan/vegatarion stuff too though ;) )

@ShadowWizard Well... Including the dressing...

@ShadowWizard Salad over here usually means lettuce, some other vegetables (tomato/cucumber), egg, croutons, dressing, some form of meat or fish, and pasta or potato. So yeah, I can easily imagine that being more expensive than cooking just some potatoes and carrots ;)

@Tinkeringbell erm. that sounds like a full meal over a salad ;p

> Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery

1:56 PM
:)
@Tinkeringbell what @Journeyman said ^^^

@ShadowWizard Well... salads are full meals over here?

@Tinkeringbell oh more the fact that it also has proteins, starches...

@JourneymanGeek Yeah, you can get them without too, but that's not tasty :P

But our ideas of salads are super light.

ordering food is actually ridiculously expensive here
20€ for dinner, like I'm Magisch, Moneybags Esq

1:59 PM
lol

It is impossible to order food to where I work
Even if there was a reasonable veggie option

also they usually dont have a nutrition chart for their meals
so I can't math out what's in there

... I don't think I want to see nutrition chart for some of our daily food...

On fridays in my workplace is pizza day

2:02 PM
Do people actually read that 0_0

So I get to observe middle aged men completly devouring that o36cm cheese filled stuffed crust double deep dish meatlover's pie for at least 10k calories a pop

I just read what's in it, and basically hope I don't need to look up too many things.

I mostly care about the levels of sodium, protein and unsaturated fat

ah
I probably need to cut back on my pickle intake :(
(my BP's on the high side and most of my salt intake is from home made pickles)

@Tinkeringbell Yeah, you lost me at pasta/potatoes... everything else sounds like an American full meal salad. Most salads here limit carbs to croutons...
We definitely have pasta salad or potato salad but we don't generally put them in salads.

2:05 PM
I think that's what tipped it over from "salad with toppings" to "full meal hidden in a salad" ;p

Well, we do eat full meal salads, even without the carb-y things. Most restaurants have a section of them on the menu. Great for summer days when you don't want something hot.

And my friends took an advantage on free salad at Sizzler (now American Grill?)... Can top-up/refill too
Huh, test... Hmm... A bit buggy mobile chat UI, or my slow internet...

@Catija Now that you mention it... I've never really ordered that a lot at restaurants, but they might well forego on the carbs here too, from what I remember from the menus. I'm thinking the ones you can buy at the grocery store...

@JourneymanGeek I care about salt in particular because my family has a history of high blood pressure
And I don't fancy dying early

@Magisch my dad does
But he also has anger issues

2:09 PM
@JourneymanGeek :/ unfortunate ping chain.

@Catija oh, high BP ;p

@Catija some of those full meal salads are really luxurious and good tasting, too.

Well... This healthy conversation reminds me again to take care about my food intake

I apparently had high BP during the military mandated stress ECG, and slightly high BP during the echocardiogram...
and I frigging really wonder what came out of that

... and less 'gorengan'

2:11 PM
lol
@Somewhat I lost my taste for fried food ._.

@Magisch Yes. I'm a fan of cobb salads myself. Lettuce, avocado, tomatoes, grilled chicken, bacon, two kinds of cheese, usually... they tend to be really pretty, too... Though, not easy on the salt.
Oh, and hard boiled egg.

From my stats the only major concern last test was vitamin d deficiency
which comes from my notorious hatred for the sun

I don't know why our people like to eat high risk food... Fried (dunno how much oil), spicy (we prefer raw chili over chilli sauce).. certainly didn't come with high profit

Hah, I had the same as a side-effect of crunch. Started to take vitamin D for that reason.

@Somewhat fairly quick, fairly easy....
Also, those were special occation foods?
but as people got richer they ate it all the time

2:19 PM
How is spicy food "high-risk"?

@Catija of stomach upsets? ;p

Especially, taken daily

I read that as senpai ._.

Sambal is awesome.
Man, I miss good Indonesian food. Very hard to find over here

@Catija If it is high-risk, I should be dead by now.

3:09 PM
I like spicy food but my stomach does not

Does the 30-day waiting period for name changes kick in if a mod force-changes your username?
Or only when a user changes it themselves?

^ can a mod rename him to MrPoopyPants and see?

-_-

3:27 PM
google did a great work to help the affected. They created a specific section on google map with all resource details google.com/maps/d/u/0/…

3:37 PM
Got to love the internet for stuff like that

4:32 PM
Internet is useful for other things too. Few people commented on posts made by pages of some companies and some people, mentioned companies and people in their tweets and so on. A kind of spamming and I'm against it.
But, as a result, many companies helped the affected.
