@Catija Where are the best fireworks viewing places for Independence Day in Austin?
Dunno. Ladybird Lake?
We stopped going to downtown San Diego to watch the fireworks after a certain incident in 2012
We don't go to them any more.
Thankfully, the high school near our home shows fireworks, and we can view them from our backyard. Except they do them a day early to cut costs down.
And it's official: a couple of relatives from India have booked a last-minute plane ticket to see us

@rene ah, I only now realize what you meant by having to do the clicking :P
I was too sleepy last night :P
@ShadowWizard aye, that's great. Thanks! :)
Grrr, sore throat and insect sting(?) on arm...
@ShadowWizard that's actually cool. without the diamond, he correctly does not show up in the list for moderators on MSE
@ShadowWizard Though, how did you find them out so quickly? o.O
@rene the SEDE query is helpful...but I have to get the list of all employees for a userscript...I was hoping to fetch the list of all employees every week and store it
Okay, this seems interesting enough, I'll post a self-answer on StackApps
02:56
@GaurangTandon a certain user on SE has already done that here, but it's rendered as web page, not JSON
@SomewhatMemorableName wow that's great! too bad its source code is hidden though :/ I requested access nevertheless...
> but it's rendered as web page, not JSON
The rendering doesn't matter. I only wish to understand the underlying logic by which they are determining which users are employees.

I also noticed that the script tracks employee additions and deletions (which is pretty cool imo). Apparently, it polls the SE API every day for all users and then filters those with `is_employee` property true. That's as far as I can guess.
As opposed to performing a query that filters inside the database? Seems vastly inefficient.
03:45
MFW a community project to clean up mess on Stack Exchange has a spam explanation field before Stack Exchange proper does
@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog While this answer looks NAA to me, I don't see a reason to report it to SD. The spam answer plagiarized that answer and added the spam links. From the point of view of spam, that answer appears to be just an innocent bystander.
@Makyen It looked more to me like it's the same spammer, but they forgot to include the link (or assumed it was stripped off), so they tried again with a new account.
@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog That's possible, but I'd consider it unlikely.
@Makyen FYI: me and @gparyani are the same person :)
03:52
socks
@JohnDvorak Go check
@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog Hmmm... that's interesting. Do you switch bodies back and forth? I'd think it would be disorienting.
@Makyen @Shadow switches bodies between a hedgehog and a wizard, so...
That's just werehogism then
03:59
@Catija Out of curiosity, where did you end up seeing the fireworks?
3 hours ago, by Catija
We don't go to them any more.
@Catija Oh, I thought you were specifically referring to the Lady Bird Lake ones.
We have a toddler who goes to sleep at 7... not really possible.
04:01
@Catija Especially when you can hear them from miles away
them toddler? :P
Lady Bird is a 2017 American comedy-drama film written and directed by Greta Gerwig and starring Saoirse Ronan, Laurie Metcalf, Tracy Letts, Lucas Hedges, Timothée Chalamet, Beanie Feldstein, Stephen McKinley Henderson, and Lois Smith. Set in Sacramento, California, in 2002, it is a coming-of-age story of a high-school senior and her turbulent relationship with her mother. Lady Bird premiered at the Telluride Film Festival on September 1, 2017, and was released in the United States on November 3, 2017 by A24. Critics praised the film's screenplay, direction, and Ronan and Metcalf's performances...
My, that's a loud cinema
Lady Bird Johnson was President Lyndon B. Johnson's First Lady, and they were from Austin
Thus, there's a Lady Bird Lake in Austin.
@JohnDvorak what kind of filter would you apply?
04:07
SELECT ... WHERE
...actually, I am writing a userscript ;)
so, no SQL is allowed
@YvetteColomb If I may ask, do you know what Telkitty was doing with self-driving cars earlier?
Donkey Car? (That's a real name, by the way)
04:32
and delvote if its closed, I'll wander off for lunch now ;)
@GaurangTandon this is horrifying
@JohnDvorak well, not really :/

Q: How to get a list of all StackExchange employees?

Gaurang TandonFor a particular userscript feature, I need to get a list of all StackExchange employees. The list would be updated every day (per SE website). What is the most efficient way to do so? I looked at users/moderators, and was hoping to filter all user_ids wuth is_employee set to true, but it turns ...

If anyone is interested, please do check out above (cc: @rene @ShadowWizard)
@GaurangTandon the list being removed was intentional tho
oh, didn't think of that :/
it found a loophole in SE API or what ?
cause the guy who wrote it has been keeping track of these things for years? ;p
you mean to tell he hardcoded the data on his harddisk instead of fetching it from an API/database or something? o.O
and is manually keeping track of new meta announcements to update employee additions/deletions?
;p
naw
I think he knows where to look in the API ;p
05:57
is that a loophole in the API? ;)
...that and I still don't know who "he" is who maintains that Google Apps Script
the user formerly and occationally known as normal human ;)
ah, I've seen quite a lot of his scripts
another one was that determined the previous usernames of a user
he's a genius
oh, okay they have an entire collection normalhuman.github.io o.O
@ShadowWizard cool
is normalhuman around these days?
If he is, I hope he could check out that question, and probably post an answer, considering he's written the very script I'm trying to write a subset of.
@GaurangTandon no, he left MSE for good.
06:10
@ShadowWizard :(
He's around on other sites, but assume he'll ignore anything related to what he did here.
(Maybe not... worth trying.)
Anyway, tons more for you, @Gaurang
Page 5 ^
Got lazy so FHRC became FHRD
All of those are employees since their last chat message was posted in private chat room.
hmm, they're pretty active around here
Random example:
06:13
so many of them don't have diamonds o.O
why in the world does SE want to complicate stuff for random userscript developers like me? :(
@ShadowWizard 1 rep and no badges O.o
@GaurangTandon but works for SO
to the equivalent of working on Facebook without having a Facebook account
@ShadowWizard some people like to not volunteer extra for work after work
Well, most SE staff don't need diamond or even actual account, only developers and CMs do. They all do get account on MSE though so they can chat, the chat here is their private internal chat system.
well, a lot of SE staff will never actually see the sites
06:17
@rene do Teams have private chat?
@ShadowWizard no
@JourneymanGeek oh.. could have been good alternative to them chatting here. :)
@ShadowWizard the only real issue with that is - the lack of non-staff mods
As you see, it's not 100% private, we can see who is chatting and when. Just not where and what exactly. :)
I guess...
and then what? ;p
06:19
@JourneymanGeek I have a sneaking suspicion that this has more to do with technical debt
@JourneymanGeek it was brought many times, answer is always "no real need for that", to which I still agree.
@Magisch and special casing
I assume the diamond on mse is bound to quite a bit more code wise then it is on normal sites
for one, it might be that diamonds on chat.mse can see and view employee only rooms
hence special casing
06:20
ya, that's one reason.
thats probably the prime reason why they have no community mods on mse
and shrug all that means that if employees arn't around and bored enough, some cleanup work takes longer
yah
only some cosmetic clean up work too, we still have flags n stuff on there
@Magisch sure, but some do, like @g3rv4 for example. He actually volunteer extra for work during work, i.e. taking on himself missions he wasn't asked to do.
(he developed some kind of app to help localize the spanish SO site.)
Now that's whole new level of noble. :)
Sure
But you can't expect every employee to do that
06:25
Of course.
then again its always nice when employees talk to us users :) lends itself to a better atmosphere
I think just sometimes its tempting to forget how nice we have it here compared to other sites when delving into criticism of SE
We don't criticize individuals (well, at least we shouldn't), but rather the policies and features, or lack of them.
That's fine and I assume welcomed by staff, but sometimes I see stuff like "other places already have this" which misses the point as an argument that we have a lot of stuff other places dont
@Magisch depends... in small things it can be valid argument.
But yeah, "Google has better search" is pretty silly argument. (for example)
SE's chat has been legendarily lacking ;)
06:36
I saw yesterday request for logging in with GitHub, giving Amazon Cloud9 as example where it's possible, and think it's a valid argument to make.
@Magisch on the other hand, sometimes you need to let people know, politely, what isn't working
@JourneymanGeek because chat is the fourth citizen (after questions, answers, and comments), and was never meant to get lots of focus. To this day, there's no link to user chat profile anywhere on their main or meta site accounts.
.... I meant search
Sorry, 3 conversations at once lol
06:38
True about that, yeah.
SE's chat's nice
actually despite the occational lack of love, it works very well
Yeah, @balpha stopped in the middle of a really big makeover, that's a pity.
He did push some major changes to mobile chat which was a real bless though.
(not 100% baked too, e.g. can't reply to messages from mobile transcript)
well mobile chat was rebuilt
@ShadowWizard well, there is for mods
i've come to like se chat
06:54
@Magisch Shog actually said here that the private rooms here require the staff bit for access.

Congratulations, by the way, for the very unusual achievement of posting an nicely-upvoted question on Meta SE that is closed as off-topic and has a single heavily-downvoted answer… we get so many questions that have the opposite voting pattern it's a little tiresome! — Nathan Tuggy 14 hours ago

Hard to change habits, but I managed to not downvote this.... I said in some answer a while ago that I won't downvote off topic questions if they're already at -3 (which is required for deletion) unless they're badly asked.
@Mithrandir really? Mods see direct link to user's chat profile? Now I envy the mods.... :D
What's with all the Drupal questions?
@ShadowWizard well... it's hidden in the mod dashboard
@JourneymanGeek hmm? Saw only one...
The hidden mod is the deadliest ninja noises

to be honest, this one is from Urusei Yatsura
The great Tatooine?
@JourneymanGeek I saw a picture recently that posed a theory about how a lunar eclipse would look like if the world really was flat, carried by 4 elephants on top of atuin :)
09:33
Depends. If the sun is under the turtle and the moon is on top, and depending on relative distances....
@Tinkeringbell If you drink enough tequila, that IS what it looks like.
Does the earth have to be flat? Or can it be round, on top of four elephants?
Well it's a disc
Yep, then we have to depend on where the sun is and the relative distances.
Or the turtle got fried...

Does anyone know if multiple "user was removed" reputation events in a day get consolidated?
e.g. if 3 users were removed
@SomewhatMemorableName well, some parts of the help center are site specific, e.g. meta.stackexchange.com/help/whats-meta
@Magisch pretty sure it doesn't, i.e. you'll see 3 separate "user removed" events.
Thats what I assumed but I wanted to double check
Is there an event indicator of "user was removed" on SEDE?
nope
Well I'm not 100% sure... @Sonic what about you? Do you know if multiple "user was removed" reputation events in a day get consolidated?
10:38
@ShadowWizard Don't think so.
me too, but not sure. :)
lol
I'm asking because sometimes I see +7q votes serial voting (+35) * 3 batch size ( + 105 ) and then -105 "user was removed". If that was consolidated it'd be fully corrected, if not, then not.
10:56
@ShadowWizard Not sure, but I once had a "voting corrected" event collapsed into a "user was removed" event.
