@SFTP apparently Montreal's F1 circuit is some kind of rock star circuit, but I literally never went to see any race
@SFTP how long before someone complains being told they are condescending is condescending?

I think 'social herding websites' is a more accurate term for 'social networking websites'

2018 is the year of global stock and property price correction?
there are people who can figure out how the variables in this world is working better than you, they might or might be autistic
always remember, super intelligent people can figure out how to get what they want with least effort

for extra happiness, I need to squeeze my chickens a little
but I have to catch them first
so instead, I am going into clinic to fix my broken foot/leg

@Taryn here's one for you :)
@TelKitty hi \o
I'm off to my horses - wish you were here
1:46 AM
okay, I'm now fully awake. What did I type? "Happy..."? bah...

When do we use the off-topic close reason "this question does not appear to seek input and discussion from the community"?
@Shog9 How many kg of CM for every 100,000 users nowadays?
@TelKitty What?
yeah it's usually calculated (total weight of CMs)/((total number of users/100,000))
@TelKitty You're expecting them to check their weight? What about for us Americans who measure weight in pounds?
4:39 AM
you need to think more abstractly
@TelKitty oooh maybe we'll have the foal then :)
@SonicWizard When it's a rant that serves no purpose other than venting the author's emotions.
Oh, they used to use "not constructive" for that. So basically, it would be the old case for "not constructive" where "primarily opinion-based" doesn't apply.
@SFTP Out of curiosity, what were your first thoughts about the anonymous editor?
5:00 AM
I don't review on Meta
> You’ll worry less about what people think about you when you realize how seldom they do.
actually, the less you worry about what people think of you, the more they tend to think about you
probably because people tend to pay more attention toward less conventional people
and less conventional people tend to not care about what others think of themselves
Well, actually, the reason I was asking is because @SFTP was engaged a lot in discussions over who the anonymous editor was, and was the one who eventually unmasked me.
@TelKitty I'm less conventional and I care what others think of me.
If you noticed...
5:14 AM
@SonicWizard less conventional, in what ways?
Feb 1 at 12:58, by Sonic the Anonymous Hedgehog
@bluefeet I'm A-spec
quoting self is conventional

Anyway, I've said this a few times now, I'm on the autism spectrum, which makes me lose sight of congeniality from time to time, and gives me special interests (like being voraciously hungry for knowledge of the exact mechanics of how the SE network works)
Which direction do I look if I don't have cast reopen, and think someone else's question was wrongly voted as a dupe?
@SonicWizard you don't seem autistic, you ping others a lot
5:19 AM
@TelKitty Okay, here's one truly unconventional thing. Apparently, a lot of people get annoyed when I reply to them during back-and-forth conversations, like this. However, I actually prefer it, for many reasons.
seems to me that I can 1. ping the close voters, 2. post on meta, or 3. beg and scrape in chat
@Backgammon I'd recommend a meta post asking why the post was closed, and why you think it's not a dupe
@Backgammon please elaborate on the begging part, then we can help you deciding
consider this an "unofficial" solicitation of opinions then
we've got this here: superuser.com/questions/892464 and the question it supposedly duplicates: superuser.com/questions/71974
Mar 3 at 2:41, by Ano
Anyway, alright: You, Catija, and Journeyman Geek expressed that you don't want me to reply in the middle of conversations. So I won't do it to you guys, and possibly not to others. But I genuinely prefer it if others did it to me; I find it annoying if others don't do it.
5:24 AM
now when it says "exact duplicate" I assume it means "exact" and the marked question sure isn't an exact duplicate because it doesn't address #2 of the original question, and in any case isn't satisfactorily answered (see: arguing in comments of accepted answer)
@Backgammon I'll tell you something: anonymously editing in an explanation into one of them saying it's not a duplicate will not work. Source: personal experience.
@SmokeDetector tpu-
I think if you are consistent with your begging, you might get it reopened
@Backgammon although not with these two, they are exact the same thing
it's like testing (a==a)
half of the closed question is the same, the other half (size reduction over time) is unique, useful, and unanswered
so if we mean exact, this sure ain't exact
5:32 AM
@Backgammon Point that out in your on MSU. By the way, I ran into a similar case on the same site:
Q: Request to reopen question 660409

gparyaniA while ago, I asked this question, which got marked as a duplicate. It originally contained two questions, of which the first was answered by both this question's and the target question's answers. However, the second was never answered. I have edited the question to only contain the second. Can...

I know that now. Did you notice that I edited it to contain just one question? — gparyani Oct 17 '13 at 20:52
@gparyani: From what I can tell, you removed the part of the question that the existing answers relate to. Which is very counter-productive and one of the reasons why posts should contain a single question to begin with. When drastically changing the content of your question, you make it less useful to future visitors. And having straight-forward questions with useful answers if one of the main goals of this platform. — Oliver Salzburg Oct 17 '13 at 21:02

@TelKitty If you have time, feel free to read the (in my opinion far too drawn-out) chat:

Pinging users, autism, replying in conversations, etc.

@Shog9 There is an MSO post about a work-here job. Maybe that needs an SE Staff comment as well. I tried to explain what I think is the best way forward. That work-here page is missing guidance when you want to make a inquiry first.
The question is closed and has enough down votes to be deleted, which didn't went unnoticed by the OP.

on which site should I ask how to train discerning 2 or above on-going conversation at the same time? Personal Productivity??? CogSci? Lifehacks?
otherwise, I'd just ask it on ConLang, and lastly MSE :)

India seems to be a terrible place to ship things to
2:23 PM
19 messages moved to Chimney
@HTTPS I learnt that from semi busy small community IRC channels
ah, in textual representation...
my problem is with vocal conversation in office environment -_-
talking or listening?
Sounds like an IPS question ;)
more to listening
ah, that's hard
humans arn't designed for that.
yeah, I think it's a given skill instead of something that can be trained...
2:30 PM
Well its possible to train yourself to tune into one conversation
but that's kinda more "audiophile listening training" ;p
picking out one voice or instrument
and that's hard too.

yeah... any idea why @Smokey links to "m." domain? It just redirects...
m' is short for metasmoke
Introduced because of the limit length in chat.

technically any subdomain goes to metasmoke
thought mobile

@SmokeDetector though the markdown seems broken :/
Is it possible to make webhooks for SE sites?
I use discord as my messaging app, and I have webhooks for Facebook and Twitter to bring new posts feed being posted into the group. Is the same possible with SE sites? My wish was to create a feed for questions being posted.
Can you use RSS?
Hmm I havent heard of RSS before (I'm not really a proficient coder tbh)
Found it on Wikipedia, giving it a read, thanks for the tip tho
Will be a while before I figure out how it works.
5:31 PM
It's just an XML dump of the latest content, with a well-defined format
RSS readers are tools that poll these dumps in regular intervals
oh wow
But they are provided in XML and not JSON?
I'm not really equipped with the knowledge to convert XML to JSON
5:50 PM
@Unitato Seems there is 3rd-party Discord RSS bot like github.com/synzen/Discord.RSS/wiki/Starting-the-Bot, but you need to do some setup and it might be overwhelming for non-programmer
Wow thanks, for the link.
I'm quite decent with JS tbh, I know just enough to code and run a discord bot, which involves npm, node, and basic JS.
good then :)

@Shog9 Is it true that moderators have access to more data than just the IP address to detect sock puppets, to not only see if one's from the same network, but also to see if the socks are being used on the same physical machine?
e.g. OS and browser information, Adobe Flash Player version, etc.
Q: A acquaintance figured out a way to get me banned from StackExchange Sites

Element115I use English Language Learners forums a lot. In fact, I was in the top 0.48% of reputation earners, but just a couple days ago, I was sitting in an English Lecture, when I noticed that a little of my reputation (about 40 pts) was gone. Almost immediately afterwards, I received a message from the...

@πάνταῥεῖ My acting compassionate is part of my strategy on dealing with this user, in order to pump them for info before an employee arrives. Acting up and accusing them of lying in the face is not going to help.
@πάνταῥεῖ Actually, it was good you did so, because then I could act like the "good cop".
@SonicWizard That's really not necessary. They can appeal the suspension by contacting us and we more insight into what happened. Arguing about it in the comments seems like a waste of effort.
@SonicWizard Well, I'm looking forward to open my surstomming can, and make that a pleasant feast for everybody ;-) ... (seems there's need for lotta onions, sour pickled cucumbers and sour cream :-D
@SFTP That chart you prepared for SO mods? Can you please make one for SU and SF as well?
@SonicWizard I was never playing "good cop". I'm that bad black motherfucker, you've seen in "Pulp Fiction". Don't try to give me roles please.
@πάνταῥεῖ Did you read my message fully?
9:21 PM
@SonicWizard Sure!
@πάνταῥεῖ So who did I say was the "good cop"?
@πάνταῥεῖ be careful that people reading the transcript don't take you seriously
@SonicWizard There's no need for "good cops" ACAB
@JohnDvorak Yeah, I'm really afraid of that moment we'll going to open that can one day ;-) ...
@πάνταῥεῖ We've had two documented cases where users started trolling MSE and accusing it of being bad, citing the (true) accusations as "evidence". I'm trying to see if my strategy would help ward this off.
Cortana, when asked what's its birthday: "Well, my birthday is April 2, 2014, so I’m really a spring chicken. Except I’m not a chicken." (cc @YvetteColomb @TelKitty )

@SonicWizard Gotta have serious advice by swedish, experienced people first.

Moral of the story: Even if we smell something something that's overly fishy, we can just consume and eat it, if enough onions, aquavit, and pickles are served with it ;-)

Cryptocurrency opens so many business opportunities. First, you scam people out of their $; then, when they are desperate to get it back, you do it again.
Q: Does being mean really chase away trolls?

AlmeisanMany people here say being mean is essential to maintain SE quality. http://meta.stackoverflow.com/a/256051/6020907 Has this chased away all the 'bad/easy questions'? Or has it done the opposite. People say down-votes should not be taken personal. But I personally down-vote people I don't like,...

Well, not this one it seems
@SFTP lovely
"Troll" and "mean" are strong words. But... would not SO get a lot more "for loop isn't working, help" questions if it had the reputation of a beginner-friendly place?
If the "mean" reputation is what it takes to discourage those, that's fine with me.
"beginner-friendly" doesn't attract experts as much as it drives them away with attracting homeworkers
Now I want a homeworker
Sounds yum
