@Manishearth What's a good filter to test my push notifier on?
Something that triggers reliably.

push notifier?

9:00 PM
@Undo make a push?

@Undo oo

@JanDvorak Yeah, but I want to test integration with the existing websocket client.

make a push from the other side?

hmm.

Hey @BenjaminGruenbaum, I just got a good suggestion: have the bot check for the presence of other recently active users before it replies. That way you won't have people wandering in and finding themselves alone with a chatty machine. (Which would probably be annoying even to people who are otherwise okay with a bot.)

Hi
Sorry guys, I was offline for a bit :P

My MySQL problems are over. :P
@rene I didn't have to switch to MS-SQL to fix it. :)

@hichris123 Do you know how to make a get request to SEDE for text-only results?

Mm... no.
@TimStone ^^

Too bad...
No .. good...

/me is confused

9:45 PM
I'm currently extracting the datadump

Found bug
'0 rows returned in 924 ms'

@rene What I was going to do. :P
@ManofSnow Why bug?

@hichris123 About 50,000 rows were returned

Hmm, query link?

9:48 PM
@hichris123 I was confident that you would manage that probem with mysql...

It took forever.
Because I was too dumb to look at the right error log. :P

Welcome in the world of system engineers...
As a dev you spend days figuring out how and what to log...

Heh.
I looked at the log in the origional location, not the one it's in now. :P

It can take a while until the log updates there...

I guess I didn't explain what I was doing. I was moving the database location, so I started the database in the new location. The log file is in both locations. I then looked at the first log file, not the log file in the new loaction. So it wouldn't have updated anyway...
Okay, unzipping SO comments. Yay!
@ManofSnow That is a bug. @TimStone, want to look at it? :P

9:54 PM
@hichris123 I want to post the bug on meta, but you don't get any rep from per-site metas, so I'm not going to bother

@ManofSnow There is no SEDE meta. Post it on mSO.

@hichris123 Kk

And besides, all you care about is the rep? That's... sad.

@hichris123 I just want enough rep for most privileges

I kinda agree with you in that. I mean, all I really care about is the mod privileges. That's why I want to get to 3k.

Q: Bug - zero rows returned (dataexplorer.SE)

Man of SnowWhy does it show that zero rows are returned? As you can see, much rows were returned (about 50,000). So why does it show up like that?

Oops, posted on SO!

Nevermind then. :P

Q: Zero rows returned

Man of SnowWhy does it show that zero rows are returned? As you can see, much rows were returned (about 50,000). So why does it show up like that?

'Well, technically it didn't return any rows. It returned a blob of text.'

Apparently my SO comments zip is corrupt... :(

@ManofSnow did you enabled text only-results?
@hichris123 I'm also having issues when I try to 7-unzip from debian

Hmm, weird.

10:13 PM
I'm now using winrar on my win7 box to unzip .7z files on my NAS and write the result back to the same NAS.
I'll be here for a while...

Heh, I'm just redownloading the comments 7z... my hard drive did get disconnected during some of them, so that may be the reason...

I'm not seeding

Ah.

10:42 PM
@Shog9 Is there any way whatsoever I could get my hands on raw text from the recent spam? I'd like to build a magical learning spam finder script, and that would greatly simplify things.

@Undo Um... Manish got some... from Shog... in TL. :P

He did?
;(
But... I'm not Manish and I can't get into TL ;(

in Charcoal HQ on The Stack Exchange Network Chat, yesterday, by ManishEarth
I asked for some spam examples in TL, and stated the purpose. The mighty shog pings

I'm asking for some examples in the Tavern. I stated my purpose. No pings ;(

> But I can't post it here
@Undo Heh. Nice try. :)

10:45 PM
@hichris123 I know! They can pay us with raw spam text to find SE bugs!

Hmm, you should ping Oded on that. :P

Almost done!

6 more first posts and I get a badge!

@Undo Huh.
Oh.
> The current rate limit is 300 requests per user, per resource an hour.
This limit is imposed to prevent overzealous requests of the same resource.
If you're developing a wrapper for this API; please cache the results you get and check back periodically for better resource management and availability.

;(

10:49 PM
Hmm:
> Feed it any IP address, email or username and stopspam will tell you if you’re dealing with a potential spam threat.

Useful

Unzipping comments again. :)

Aha!
No rate limiting there!

However, how the heck do we know IP?
Or email?

We don't
We don't need to.

10:50 PM
Why don't we need to?

@hichris123 We can feed it titles and bodies and usernames

@Undo I don't think you can feed it titles and bodies...

oh
hmrph

@Undo Have you imported SO comments into MySQL recently (newest data dump)?

@hichris123 When was the newest one?

10:54 PM
January 22nd or something like that.

oh. nope

Okay. :P
I wonder if the schema's changed...
@Undo akismet.com seems to do some stuff...

I think we would need to make our own.

Yeah... we need some filters, though.

yes, easily:
1. Hang out here for a day
2. Collect the text from all of the spam posts folks are linking here all the time
...3: profit

11:08 PM
@Undo Use Cinder
1. Make everyone use Cinder
2. Make it post to your server
3. profit

I have my badge, I'm out of here
cya

@Undo We should probably do this: SmokeDetector basic -> Cinder -> Cinder-Smokedetector link (post to chat) -> ML the crap out of the raw data you get -> improve SmokeDetector

@Manishearth Hmm, good idea. Just log all data generated from SmokeDetector (that's spam) and send it to Cinder.

Well, no
I meant the reverse link

The problem is Cinder isn't really done yet...

11:17 PM
let it take time. It's not urgent
so.... while my internet is crapping out, the server is still dutifully running the same while(True) loop :p

What I'm doing is working with MySQL now. :P

Alright

Why the heck are files made with no extention in the SO portion of the data dump? @TimStone

@Undo you do realize that your push notification thing is giving the spammer more attention? :p

11:20 PM
Windows claims it's a COM-BADGES file. :P
Which is from the stackoverflow.com stuff.

O, @TimStone, great grokker of SE internals! You may wish to weigh in on this post

hey, I'm back

Loading Stack Overflow comments into MySQL. :P

11:38 PM
yay, got SE websocket to work in Ruby :P
now I must send a chat message via Ruby

11:49 PM
So, within a week, we'll have not one, but two Chat APIs! :D

And I'll now be able to run queries locally! :P

@Manishearth thanks for making yours btw, huge help :)
