11:00 PM
the actual SE software will never be free, they'll sooner burn down all servers, literally

afaik there isn't a good looking SO clone with all the functionality that you can just install and run and it just works
at least yet

Maybe this is just me being stubborn, but I don't want to have to install additional software and garbage just to be able to read stuff from a website.

Look, mayonnaise will keep your processor at 35 degrees.

@Cerberus_Reinstate-Monica Useless. They don't tell you what brand.

11:01 PM
@CodyGray yes

dang mayo is good for cpus

eh, reading twitter not being logged in seems to work fine for me

@CodyGray Of course it would be better if Twitter were not what it is. But don't you use userscripts in general?
@CodyGray Well, home-made is the only mayonnaise.
@CodyGray Of course it would be better if Twitter were not what it is. But don't you use userscripts in general?

but i also use middle click a lot to open sub-threads in other tabs
as to not lose my place in my current reading

11:03 PM
happy hour time I guess

🎂

@Cerberus_Reinstate-Monica No, I really don't. I use too many different computers for userscripts to be anything but a major pain in the butt.
I do sometimes install a few of them. I can hardly live without one of the mod userscripts that Sam wrote to make review-banning easier. So I do have that installed on my two primary computers, a laptop and a desktop.

some people use chrome and they also have an account and that synchronizes userscripts and css styles across computers >.>
they say the same is possible with firefox too

Firefox has some sync thingamajig. Never liked these. My browser should just show me the internet.
And get off my lawn

dem youngsters with thems synchomajigs

11:09 PM
"sync" is just a fancy word for showing you the same Internet everywhere

@CodyGray That is something.
@user1306322 Ah, if you can synchronise extensions, then that should include userscipts!

i do that with chrome, it's great
syncing all my adblocking, userscripts, bookmarks,
you can send a tab from your PC to a device, like my iphone

Oh, so your solution is for me to sign up to give all of my information to Google.

that's your choice
if you want the convenience, you have to choose somewhere to upload all the stuff to sync it.

you can just use an open-source sync app and point it at your firefox profile directory
no need to use any big brother software these days, and it's about as equally convenient
which is why I don't use any of it coz it's a hassle either way :p

11:15 PM
Yeah, I don’t really get it. I don’t need to install userscripts on my car to make it not suck.

i mean, you own the car, you can change it yourself
websites on the other hand... if they're not going to give you the option to configure it to work the way you want, your options are to accept their decisions or change it with a script

@CodyGray soon

But I’m kind of in a bad mood, so maybe a bit grouchy

you just don't have a car to which you can add scripts yet
if I had a Tesla you bet I'd try to customize its GUI
they kinda have a bad "only we can repair it" policy but I suppose this is because most people would have a really high chance to really screw something up inside their cars, but that'll probably change in the next 10-15 years

Tesla’s “only we can repair it” philosophy applies to flat tires, too. Pretty ridiculous.

11:22 PM
sounds very appley

exactly
except for apple it will not change most likely
Tesla has Musk at its leadership who is not a pure profit seeker, so he might influence this policy later on when it's beneficial to the customers and not as risky as it is today
I mean who's gonna repair the cybertruck on mars
or are they gonna ship an entire official Tesla service center to it first?
but then again that's also not impossible
really can't wait for daily livestreams of day to day operations of the mars base

In what way is it “risky” today to change a flat tire?

I think there might be cameras around the wheel or the installation is different from normal cars in some imporant way, no idea :p
cybertruck definitely has a side view mirror camera near front wheels
Fair! I'll tag this with [status-review] then for us to take a closer look at later. — Adam Lear ♦ 6 mins ago

@AndrasDeak I like my Mac, never had to change a flat tire on it. But I think I’ll stick with my BMW

is it just me or do the devs respond to feature requests more often these days?

11:28 PM
@CodyGray I've worked with trucks like that 🤣🤣🤣
@user1306322 won't be really live.

how do we define live

@user1306322 It’s just you. Adam’s always been on the ball. And there used to be more devs, more involved. Now, we pretty much have Adam and Yaakov

hm maybe I've asked weird requests which didn't get attention then
the hot questions icon size bug is sooo easy to fix and yet it's still broken for all these years

Yeah, some things get ignored indefinitely.
That's always been the case, though.
Literally since the beginning.

I just checked how a couple other users' questions list looks and it seems my ratio of posts receiving red tags is about the same as others'
so I guess I'm not that off curve

11:35 PM
It's not user-based. I meant your perception.

well, I perceive by the percentage of posts that get a red tag :p
I used to ask fairly common c# questions and they got normal attention from users, but then I had a streak where I asked very niche questions on a topic nobody knew much about, so that was a very tumbleweedy experience
I thought maybe I'm reporting weirder bugs than average, but it doesn't seem so

I did not realize that you were a robot and your perception was strictly based on hard statistical data. That could certainly come in handy.

we're all biorobots, my human friend!
some of us beep more than others, sure, we're all different

for all we know Cody is a floating pair of glasses in a jar. But definitely not google glass.

the jar is made of google glass
the glasses are made of goggle glass
giggle, lass :D
