11:00 AM
@Magisch We could just all get back to talking about ice cream, strawberries and chocolate sprinkles ;)

waffles
Don't forget waffles

@Tinkeringbell reality always returns

@JourneymanGeek I've seen that more than once now and it's bothering me :P *hindsight

Q: No more waffles?

Shadow Wizardwaffles. Ordinary member? He's no longer in the Stack Exchange team page nor in the moderators list of any site. He was part of the team from almost the beginning, doesn't he deserve a big farewell party like Jeff had? Looks like he stepped down willingly couple of weeks ago - so goodbye, and t...

@Mithrandir point.

11:01 AM
@Mithrandir there are some permanent typos, e.g. many say "mayor" instead of "major".

user194636
@JourneymanGeek Are we though? At some point, as the company continues to stuff up in the same ways, with the same limp outcomes, people just disengage from what has become a very tiring, and seemingly never-ending process. Perhaps SO/SE has just become something some of us don't want to be part of any more.

@PaulWhite Ya.
@PaulWhite but but...
how do we fix that?
or are we just doomed?

I don't think people are fleeing in flocks yet

and there's nothing we can do

user194636
It is possible we don't fix it.

11:03 AM
I've seen multiple grumpy veterans leave SO but it's not systemic

@PaulWhite then there's no point complaining.

or MM

user194636
@AndrasDeak Me either. But how would one measure how close we might be to that sudden point.

most of the rep farmers spewing the majority of new content (all the posts answered instead of getting closed deservedly) don't care about meta at all

There's no point.
in anything
and the idea of that is depressing

11:04 AM
@PaulWhite If we're getting to the point where Monica is writing angry blog posts, and the entire TL is up in arms...

user194636
@AndrasDeak Ah yes: I should clarify: disengagement from SO/SE policy/politics. People may simply disengage from all that, and go back to the basic business of Q & A.

ah, yeah

@JourneymanGeek Isn't that a bit philosophical for a Tavern?

user194636
@Mithrandir Yes that is a big part of what I'm thinking about.

@Mithrandir I think this room needs to brighten up a bit

11:05 AM

user194636
I'm a cat person 😛

@PaulWhite There's a picture of Jolene's cat on the frying pan...
the room, not the cookware

Careful cat! That's hot!

user194636
tweets angrily about SE cooking cats

11:07 AM
(Ash needed a haircut. He agreed. Also, he loves the groomers...)

Dogs without seat belts, cats being fried... What have we come to...

user194636
I think those are all mentioned in Revelations

@Mithrandir oh he usually travels on my lap... front seat
I haven't had the heart to tell anyone its a bad idea.

(the snark / sarcasm / deadpan is strong today)

@AndrasDeak one left for good due to the recent drama, the hot halpinio something.

11:09 AM
@ShadowWizard nacho's a troll

Jalapeno? Was that MM?

He is now, he wasn't before.

@ShadowWizard Incorrect.

11:09 AM
Last I checked, he had tons of rep on many sites, can't be a troll.

@ShadowWizard hah, some trolls play the long game.

You do not want to know the history there.

@AndrasDeak no, KK was MM (if I got Journeyman's comment)

@Somewhat correct

But I'll say that this has been going on for years and the legal team has gotten involved several times.

11:10 AM
@Mithrandir TL;DR will be enough then. How a troll managed to get so much rep over so much time without being nuked before?
If by "troll" you mean someone who is rude towards newbies, well, it's not a troll.

being a troll and being able to answer technical stuff is unrelated, right?
whatever "troll" means

@ShadowWizard some trolls play the long game

We have many of those on SO, they sometimes get suspended, usually to come back and relax afrer that.

sooo
while I can't talk about SE stuff

e.g. YCS is probably the best example...

11:12 AM
there was a troll on an old site I was in who basically pretended to be his girlfriend too...

I think YCS has come back? I saw his comment somewhere...

was a battletech community so posted painted minis as her and so on...

@πάνταῥεῖ also got suspended for being rude on SO, no? This does not make him "troll".

then one day...

user194636
genuine, subtle trolls (in the original meaning) are actually pretty rare

11:12 AM
"she" got into an accident.

@Somewhat surprisingly not a troll though

our 'local' mods went to visit her in the hospital and nothing...

ouch

dude had basically pretended to be 2 people for years

Well, I got an impression on YCS, Joe Blow, and Evan...

11:13 AM
So, ya

not necessarily true though

trolls can totally play the long game

@JourneymanGeek now that's really creepy

@AndrasDeak it is

I mean mods trying to visit her in the hospital

11:13 AM
@ShadowWizard This is a completely different case, involving harassment, threats, physical safety concerns, and the legal team has been involved several times over the years. I'd advise not discussing it further.

@AndrasDeak oh they had asked the boyfriend it was ok

@JourneymanGeek still not a troll, IMO. Just someone with a sock, maybe dirty sock if he did stuff like voting, closing, etc.

@JourneymanGeek heh

and it was a VERY small, close-knit community

Troll is someone who abuse others.
Repeatedly, on purpose, in order to hurt them and the site.

11:14 AM
@ShadowWizard erm, can we say the JN story is a lot more complicated than you know, and we can't talk about a lot of it cause of our mod agreements? ;p

Those last messages and posts from "JN" were pure trolling, but I saw it as part of ragequit.
Anyway..... meh.

@ShadowWizard probably not the first time...

@ShadowWizard trust us here ;)

Well, such a person is likely to try and return, hope SE can stop them.

like the Turk?

11:17 AM
@ShadowWizard well, the site might have to
I've had to deal with a persistant troll
and its easier/quicker for us to take away his toys, so to speak

If this is all true and that person is a "classic troll", he probably have at least one other account, totally separate and innocent, ready to be used. Let's hope I'm wrong, as always. ;)

@ShadowWizard I think I heard talk of a restraining order at some point

@ShadowWizard well he's not on my site so... all I hear is grapevine

There was some Indian Hacker/Troll who kept threatening Tim Post personally years ago.... plus kept claiming he'll take SE down with DDOS attacks. Luckily for us all, it was all empty talk... or SE was able to block his attempts. :)

[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Pattern-matching website in body, potentially bad keyword in body (99): How to contact American Airlines Phone Number by dany login on travel.SE

11:21 AM
He wanted to be made a mod right? ;p

@JourneymanGeek yes! lol
That was funny in a twisted way.

@ShadowWizard Indian Hacker Team!!! :D

yes!
@Bart has good memory.
Any tips? What you eat?! :D

user194636
He has meta wallpaper

@JourneymanGeek any deleted threads of that still around?

11:23 AM
A combination of a curry and now peanut m&ms for desert

@Magisch I heard of it, but I don't really have any examples I can find easily :(

@Bart will give it a try!
no fish pills?

@ShadowWizard ash ate em XD

@ShadowWizard only fish sauce for the curry at worst :D

11:24 AM
I do love gefilte fish....

That's nice indeed

user194636
that just makes me think of Jackie Chan

geflite fish?

Wonder if any non-Jews ever even tried gefilte fish? Or Regel Krusha?

Don't know Regel Krusha, but gefilte fish yes.

11:26 AM
@ShadowWizard Never had some, but that doesn't look too bad.

The slice of carrot does it.

It's made of, well... fish. :) (the purple stuff in the back is very hot/spicy, at least should be.)

user194636
@JourneymanGeek yes, from Rush Hour 2

I mean, why would that remind @PaulWhite of Jacky Chan

11:27 AM
@Tinkeringbell for me it's the sprig of parsley in the back :p

@Bart That too...

You don't want to know what's inside though. ;)
(hint: "regel" means "leg")
No worry! Not human.

Ooh, it's it marrow?

:D
@Bart you're smart! :P

11:29 AM
Hmmm. I must admit that the colour doesn't look very welcoming.
I think I'll pass.
I'll stick with drop.

Even among Jews, only very few like it. I'm among them. :D

Had roast bone marrow before. It's quite nice, but somehow offputting at the same time.

It's also with eggs, and.. eh... "jellified"? No idea what's the correct word.

user194636
the limes look nice

@PaulWhite They're contaminated though...

11:30 AM
lol

@ShadowWizard looks similar to
this is sweet though

@Magisch there's screenshot in this question:
12
Q: How to deal with users posting religious threats?

SudoRahulJust a few minutes ago, a particular user created two accounts and posted threatening posts against a certain religion. In such cases, what should be the action taken because the user can just keep creating accounts and keep posting such things because flagging is not going to help either. Here ...

@Somewhat nah, not remotely related. :)
What you posted is Jahnun, made of dough.
The Regel Krusha is mainly... Jelly. ;)

I like Jelly.

I like Fish.

I like some sorts of fish too :)
Mainly the fried ones :P

11:37 AM
perhaps no one likes Jelly Fish?

@Magisch I found the originals. One, Two. Enjoy!

@Somewhat jellyfish are the worst kind of people ;)
@ShadowWizard Ah... the original 404 errors. How original

@Tinkeringbell get 10k rep already! :D

user194636
impossible: meta is dead!

(or.. a diamond! ;))
Get 10k twitter followers then demand to join SE as some senior staff member. :P

11:39 AM
@ShadowWizard Nah...

user194636
I'm not diverse enough

@PaulWhite Meta is Dead, Long Live Twitter, the New Meta!

@PaulWhite Which is sad. I feel for you :)

user194636
thx

@Tinkeringbell feel what? :)

11:40 AM
@ShadowWizard Long Live Twitter? What happened to Long Live Tink!?
@ShadowWizard Sadness at being not diverse enough ;)

you're not diverse enough either @Tinkeringbell

I never really got that term "feel for you"... what if I feel anger? :D

user194636
empathise is difficult to spell

@Tinkeringbell doesn't ring enough Bells!

@Magisch Oh? Now it's interesting. Why am I boring? :P

11:42 AM
You should spice up your life! :D

@Tinkeringbell feathers not colorful enough

Eat some jelly fish...

@Magisch Ahh. Well, to be honest... I want to work for a company that wants me for my competences, not for who I am ;)

@Tinkeringbell OK, since you asked so nicely, here you go! No direct offense so can onebox it:

So if I'm not diverse enough for a company, it's a company I don't want to work for in the first place ;)

11:45 AM
@Tinkeringbell on a real note though, you're still straight, white and cisgendered, so in some areas you wouldn't be considered a positive for diversity in hiring

@ShadowWizard :P Okay, funny :)

if the employer subscribes to that kind of thing

@Magisch sadly there's some truth in that... eh.

user194636
@Magisch Including SE/SO

@Magisch Glad to be so ;) I'm already having trouble enough finding a place where people look further than just 'she's female!'

user194636
11:46 AM
I heard yesterday that SE/SO aren't hiring for senior positions until there is enough diversity among applicants

@Tinkeringbell diversify by accepting my acceleration proposal.

@Bart Honestly... didn't you hear? I'm fat. I won't fit in an accelarator :P

@PaulWhite that's just tech industry standard these days though. Some companies have quotas too

@Tinkeringbell how many bits? 32 or 64? ;)
May 10 '17 at 13:20, by M.A.R.
@ShadowWizard FAT32 or NTFS?
lol
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ 32
(I was on diet)

The tech industry is incredibly progressive as a whole, such things can't be seen in a vacuum

11:49 AM
@Bart can you please build a Time Accelerator that will accelerate time, and take us 6-8 days into the future? Thanks!

@Magisch I'm still feeling sad and upset about a lot of that stuff though, as it doesn't seem to be making my life any easier or better. If anything, it makes my workplace feel like the Tavern this week XD

@Tinkeringbell well, someone also thought you were a suitable person for the job
I got mine cause I was willing to work the hours, and the pay wasn't insultingly low.

@Tinkeringbell ultimately you're not the target audience though

@JourneymanGeek Did they?

you tick too many boxes of mainstream

11:54 AM
and lets be clear though If someone else happens to be ... how would I put it...

user194636
@Magisch progressive is such a loaded term. it suggests unambiguous goodness. who doesn't like progress?

they fit someone's view of diversity better than I do, get the job and are kickass at it...
I've got no room to be mad
@Tinkeringbell unless you're literally the token female...

@JourneymanGeek Feels like it sometimes.

@Tinkeringbell everyone keep ranting about the same thing over and over, and management keep silent? ;)

@Tinkeringbell well, you don't sound like a warm body hire

11:55 AM
@ShadowWizard Nah, just a load of discussions and interactions that manage to bring down my mood ;)

I could tell you stories but I'd have to worry about a lot of scary TLAs ;)

Small things happening that make me think my company isn't as great as I thought it was

user194636
@JourneymanGeek you'd have no reason to be if anyone else got the job and was kickass at it

@Tinkeringbell example?

Basically, reality slowly catching up to me.

11:56 AM
@PaulWhite ya

@ShadowWizard bring your daughter to work day.
Used to be 'bring your kid'

the husband of my aunt works as a PM in a very large german corp

Makes me mad and sad at the same time.

user194636
the only great company to work for is the one you start yourself

11:56 AM
@Tinkeringbell What's wrong with that?

@PaulWhite the question might be "If there's another role at the same place, should I bother trying?"

he has to have 1 woman in every dev team unit lately
it's a firm requirement

user194636
@Tinkeringbell ugh

@ShadowWizard 'Used to be bring your kid'. Now it's just 'bring your daughter'

@Magisch and hopefully there's enough talented female programmers to fill those roles.

user194636
11:57 AM
@JourneymanGeek if you're qualified and a good fit for the existing team, why not?

@Tinkeringbell oh.. gender? Assuming everyone have daughter? It's just silly. Why making you mad?
feeling something is missing

@JourneymanGeek Some teams. Other teams pull women internally from other roles and then train them to help

@PaulWhite because I'm not sure if those criteria and met.
@Magisch actually the latter feels like a better way to go about it

user194636
@JourneymanGeek interviews work both ways

@JourneymanGeek You say that until you're a woman who is told "you're a software developer now"

11:58 AM
@PaulWhite assuming you make it to an interview
or you realise that the role's filled and they're going through the motions...

user194636
I've never understood that. Seems like a waste of everyone's time.

and you're a failure for being unemployed
@PaulWhite one of the big companies I interviewed at had one interviewer 'missing'
