Forms: 4–6 hasard, 5–6 -arde, 6 hazarde, (hassard(e, hazered, Sc. hasart), 6–7 hazzard, 5– hazard.

Etymology: a. OFr. hasard, -art (12th c. in Hatz.-Darm.): cf. Pr., Sp., Pg. azar, Ital. la zara, azzardo (from Fr.), med.L. azardum, azarum (Du Cange).

The origin of the French word is uncertain, but its source was prob. Arabic. According to William of Tyre, the game took its name from a castle called Hasart or Asart in Palestine, during the siege of which it was invented: see Littré s.v. The true Arab name of this castle appears to have been ‘Ain Zarba (Prof. Mar

But... what does 'exotic' mean?

what does “word” mean?

@Unihedron a. Belonging to another country, foreign, alien (obs.). b. In narrowed sense: Introduced from abroad, not indigenous. Now chiefly of plants (in popular language with added sense of ‘not naturalized or acclimatized’); also, of words, forms of speech or writing, fashions, etc.

From a look-around at the people receiving these badges, it looks like the bug is that the badge awarderer is simply not looking at the tag score and is awarding them to whomever has reached the minimum answer count for the badge.

The original theory is that they somehow got halved but I found one that got awarded where they had less than half the score required.

@animuson Is it just SO?

4:20 AM
This suggests it's affecting all sites.

user259867
Confused: is this spam or an example of what spam could be? The use-mention distinction...

I just got a tag badge. :P

@animuson Is it delayed? For example, I have 170 answers scoring ~2k on one SO tag, but that’s only a normal silver.

To be fair, I think I'm only a few votes away from the tag badge I just got.

@AlexisKing Okay, so maybe it is working its way down the list.

4:22 AM
You can go sit on the Badges page and watch them get awarded. Seems to dish 2 or 3 out every couple minutes.

maybe everyone gets a gold badge. The process just takes hours to run

What, bronze too?

Yeah, the badge I just got was bronze.
@animuson People getting golds is probably an actual issue what with the dupe-hammer being a thing now.

tchristWhenever you find a computer spell-checking program does not know how to spell something, your best first assumption is that the program is an idiot. You will usually be right this way.
