Heh, I wrote a comment along similar lines.

@Unihedron I feel like adding to all the SE Unicode bugs.
I won’t, of course. But I feel like it.

do it
ask on MMSE whether you can do a retag for MSE posts first, though.

12:09 PM
@Unihedron Melts in your mouth, not in your hand.
There is a deeper flaw here having to do with programming languages that force you to work with raw binary code units instead of presenting strings as sequences of abstract code points or better yet as sequences of extended grapheme sequences. People should not be dealing with bits when they are dealing with strings.
So languages like C♯ and Java are because they violated the envelope of abstraction in this regard. That is why programmers keep screwing up Unicode using them.
If every time I had to work with a floating point number I had to specify just where in the IEEE layout I wanted to diddle bits, I’d hose that up all the time, too. This is the same class of stupidity.
Abstraction failure.

@Mooseman the election nomination requirement is still 300

@MadaraUchiha ah...

@bummi Ah, yep... good to know.. surprised she hasn't been blacklisted suspended yet.

@LynnCrumbling same name different accounts

@cybermonkey Are you aware that I get notifications of comments containing "@JasonC" and do not need to be pinged in chat?

@bummi oooo

@JasonC We don't give help to those who can't be bothered to read up on the requirements of the very library they're using. They deserve to have these errors if they can't be bothered to read.

3:42 PM
@cybermonkey That's not the question I just asked you.

@JasonC On another note, we've kinda clogged up the comments on that question, so it'll probably be better if we remove the comments and continue our discussion here. And yes, I am fully aware.

@cybermonkey At some point, you may want to give them a little slack... maybe they were looking at the old (beta) version of the docs, and just didn't realize that there was add'l info in the newer version?

@LynnCrumbling If that's the case, it's still their fault for not paying attention. If this question was asked by a new user, the question would probably be closed and DV'ed a lot more.

@cybermonkey Good, then don't do that, it's unnecessary. As for the question itself, I've already concluded:
@cybermonkey Great! Then go find a suitable canonical question about the importance of reading documentation to link to, and downvote in the mean time. :) — Jason C 3 mins ago

@cybermonkey Don't get me wrong; I can fully appreciate the "lazy programmer" that doesn't RTFM at all :)

3:44 PM
And as for your original rationale:
@JasonC Doesn't matter, the matter still boils down to the fact they were missing a library declaration. It is not useful (in my opinion) for future readers, and should still have a signpost to the generic question on the matter. — cybermonkey 22 mins ago
If that's not what you actually meant, next time think before you comment.

@JasonC The point of Stack Overflow is to have a central repository for programming questions and answers, I personally don't think a question whose problem was primarily based on material that the OP didn't read from the page they downloaded the library from is a good question.

@cybermonkey Why do you keep repeating that as if somebody is disagreeing with that point? That has nothing to do with the fact that linking to the "unresolved external symbol" question as a duplicate makes no sense.
It's a terrible question that does not have enough prior research. Also, it's not a duplicate of the library question. Downvote it. That's about all you can do. But I've already said this, and we're going in circles.

@JasonC Delete your comments please, to clean up the comments...

Done
@cybermonkey By the way the title of that duplicate is both "undefined reference" and "unresolved external symbol". :P

jdu I have to check a pre-set list of dates I know to be bank holidays? Yes. I am no Swift expert, there's not ever going to be a programming language with a predefined list of bank holidays in it. Holidays vary a lot region by region, there'd be no way to do it effectively.
