3:01 AM
russian local flags are cool weirdrussia.com/2019/07/11/…

Rob
Zheleznogorsk's one is awesome

Syaskelevskoe is just derpy

Rob
Hmm
That town is so small there's no results for it when searching, other than about the flag
I was in St Petersburg for a while - which is apparently next to it - but I've never heard of it

3:17 AM
Zheleznogorsk is probably also one of those closed off (formerly?) science towns

Rob
Oh, found it.. it's actually called syas'kelevo

ah

1 hour later…
Rob
4:33 AM
Hidden by security fence:

5:19 AM
@Rob Nothing wrong with any of those pictures.
Furry underpants in particular are an excellent way to ... hide ... your equipment.

1 hour later…
Rob
6:46 AM
@JohnDvorak What's funny about those is it looks like they were sewn from old seat covers. In another picture the two dressed like stewardess appear to have forgotten theirs. In yet another picture a grown man walks down the street wearing a diaper. --- I've seen 'steering wheel bicycles' before ... Not sure why the guy sitting on the bus got lumped in
there; too much leg room?

I'm more surprised the asphalt worker got into the list
The guy on the bus is perfectly normal - but notice what seat he chose for himself
Also, clothes iron = cup heater isn't endemic to Russia. It's endemic to militaries worldwide.

Well gee, looks like only now I got a response from a suspension appeal email.
Long after the suspension was lifted. Kind of defeats the purpose, huh...

I guess it's time to start appealing suspensions on Twitter exclusively.

I've genuinely begun to wonder if I should do that. Shame I don't have a Twitter account.

@forest simple solution. Don't get suspended
Also there's typically a human, and a queue of tickets.

6:56 AM
@Aibobot Hard to do when staff tell you that the policy is to give the benefit of the doubt, then automatically and instantly assume the worst of someone when there is an ambiguity.
Prediction: I'm about to get suspended now without being warned or told why. I hope I'm not coming off as too abrasive, but I am a little pissed off at the whole "screw you" response I just got in email.
@Aibobot Yeah I guess a queue makes sense, but in that case the whole "we'll get back to you within 24 hours" should be updated, since that information is no longer correct.

(In case there's any ambiguity here - I'm geek on my office PC)

Yeah I remember.

That's the response we've all been getting regarding ads, decent front page, vote splits...

So, a few things - We'd love that 24 hour thing to be true, but, well, even for mods, there's typically a delay

@JohnDvorak Yeah I've long-since given up on the staff being honest or effective wrt community issues. That doesn't stop me from being irritated that it's the case, though.
@Aibobot Well then the estimate should at least be updated.

6:59 AM
Secondly - constantly accusing folks of being dishonest kinda gets tiring for folks trying to engage constructively
Please knock that off.

@Aibobot I'm not accusing anyone of lying.
You told me not to, so I'm not. What I am saying is that I'm getting mixed messages.

Third! You're fairly aware of the lines, and keep trying to figure out where they're blurred

I have a feeling you are projecting intent on me where none exists.

I mean, that was a political comic, with no context. The ambiguity was heavily on how it was offensive
Nope, I'm extrapolating on my experiences

@Aibobot I would have posted the Twitter link which was unambiguous, but... oneboxing...

7:01 AM
Its not hard to actually say a bit about the link

I mean to me, as someone with liberal views, it was clearly not offensive. However rather than someone asking me for context, I was suspended for a week as mods, who had previously told me that they give benefit of the doubt, immediately assumed it was intentionally malicious.

FOR EXAMPLE

If a comic is only offensive to people with some political sidings, it still counts as offensive

"Hey, this comic is pretty funny cause..."

@JohnDvorak Well, I wasn't suspended for being rude to white supremacists, for sure. :P
(...I hope)

7:02 AM
... stop using that phrase.

The safest is to not talk about politics at all, then

@forest you don't need to be rude to anyone at all

Which phrase? White supremacists?

yes

@JohnDvorak I was referring to genuine white supremacists, not "anyone who I disagree with".

7:04 AM
Woah. Good morning.
Can we relax the room a little please?

At least it's Friday... in Iceland...

Anyway, I can't help but feel that there is some sort of disconnect between what I am told is the policy here, and what actually occurs. That is why I "accuse" people of dishonesty.
@Tinkeringbell Yes, sure. Sorry if I'm being overly aggressive. And thanks for asking rather than instantly suspending me for a week. I appreciate that, genuinely. Anyway, I'll drop the topic...

@MetaAndrewT. It's Friday here too!

Oh, you'll see...

7:10 AM
@forest Probably a result of the nitty-gritty governance of SE being a mesh of hundreds of moderators, users and staff none of whom are exactly the same to one another with an above average autonomy and freedom in governing

We are one (mods), we are all different...

7:27 AM
Well, that's why "policy" is a thing. :P

@forest In this case though, policy is 'when in doubt don't suspend for a year' :P

Ah, I had been misinformed then. I thought "benefit of the doubt" applied to more than just extreme suspensions, so I naturally took it to mean that, if I accidentally crossed the line, I'd be told.

@forest or yanno, consider there's actually a line

The line in this case was ambiguous. I interpreted something as being non-offensive, and others misinterpreted it. Rather than asking me for context, they acted reactively.
The fact that I could have avoided the suspension by giving more context shows that I did not cross the line, but someone thought I did and suspended me instead of giving me the benefit of the doubt is what I point to in reference to what I believe is hypocrisy in moderation.

Thats the thing with benefit of the doubt, it's a benefit given on past behavior (or not)

7:35 AM
I truly hope I haven't been racist (or *-ist) in the past!

Also (and I'm just as guilty here...) But didn't we agree to drop this? :P

@Tinkeringbell Oh yeah. Sorry, someone brought it up again and I forgot. :P

I've been a language purist in the past. Does that count?

I'm still a language purist.
Stop using "you" as a singular you youngsters!
(Seriously though I get what you mean. I hate butchering language for political reasons.)

Did you just use the p-word again?

7:42 AM
:o

Ok... dude, You literally came out of a suspension You've repeatedly been told not to accuse people of dishonestly, and yet, you keep using terms like " hypocrisy in moderation.'

Since when does hypocrisy imply dishonestly or lying?

I mean, these are gentle warnings

I'm trying my hardest to express myself politely. Is this just a language barrier?

I mean, you're basically going "Ok, they tell me not to say this, I'll use a synonymn"
until you get suspended.

7:49 AM
Actually nevermind, @Tinkeringbell told us to drop this. Can we create a private room if you want to continue? I don't want to diss her.

You brought it up agai

No I didn't. Please, let's not continue with this. I don't want to get in trouble.

...the bottom of my second SO water bottle is chipped. :(
Must've fallen off my desk at some point.

Where'd you get an SO water bottle? :o

@forest Competitions!

7:52 AM
oh!
The things on Meta every once in a while? I never payed attention to those.
You can win prizes?

Yep.
I've won a whole bunch of stickers, a few t-shirts, two water bottles, some pens/markers, a couple notebooks, and a few other assorted things.
One of the water bottles I take everywhere and is completely indestructible. The second one stays at my desk and is apparently chipped :/

I bought some Charcoal stickers back when there was the opportunity, haven't used them yet.

(I keep all the swag that I get that I don't actively use inside a false book safe. It stays on my bookcase and hides.)
...oh, I've got a SU pen too, forgot about that.

@Aibobot Can you create a new room? I'd like to talk to you about something to try to clear up an ongoing misunderstanding and I don't know how to create rooms.

I still didn't get my stuff-a-way swag

7:58 AM
No

@Magisch Odd. Did you check in with @JNat?

@Aibobot OK. If I have something to ask, should I wait a bit then ask it here?

@Mithrandir I was one of the people that didn't get the initial email
Is there a timeframe for when this is going ahead? — Magisch Apr 18 at 6:37
Nope! As soon as I know, y'all will know ;) — JNat ♦ Apr 23 at 16:05

> REAL ACTION!! REAL DRAMA!! REAL BLOODSHED!!

Actually, I'm looking into that just today! ;)

7:59 AM
~ Mettaton, Undertale

@forest pretty much said everything there is to say, more than once

@JNat NinjaNat

NinJNat

It seems like there's something with a new vendor up already, though some kinks are still being worked out, I think
So not sure if I can place orders already or not

@Aibobot It's nothing that I've said before, but if you don't want to talk then it's ok.

8:01 AM
but I was planning on looking into that today. If nothing else, might be time to get some addresses and all collected in the meantime

@JNat hopefully that also means the Mod swag, or until I forget about it again :p

I think someone's looking into the same thing, but regarding the pending mod/100k/250k requests

ah, I see... good to know :)

1 hour later…
Rob
9:17 AM
@JohnDvorak Ah, he takes his work home with him, and someone stole a seat from the bus (or one is missing for some reason).

> Still looking for an answer from SE on this issue. I can easily keep this question bountied for years before I run out of MSE rep, it might be easier to just respond now.
Bountiful extortion :D

1:10 PM
@SonictheAnonymousWizHog why did you choose the action you chose in this low quality review?

1:21 PM
@Magisch It was prophesized that this would happen :P Don't even have to look up which one that is ;)

@Tinkeringbell It's funny in a "Go ahead, make me pay 500 rep. I can do this every week for 4 years, fight me"

@MEEwasthemissingbracket It seemed like a valid answer at first...but I later realized otherwise, so I flagged it as NAA.

@Magisch Yeah... though I'm not sure how 'fruitful' this will be, seems more like it may be frustrating for both users and the company to have/deal with such an attitude ;)

Now all someone needs to do is post a upvoted answer and they'll keep recieving 250 rep every week for the next 4 years :p

@Magisch I propose a sock, then we can use the rep that sock earned to put up further bounties after 4 years have passed ;)

1:40 PM
Practically though - most existing Ava are externally hosted and it's going to be hard/tricky to move them all
Even if SE started their own image host

I'm keeping mine. No matter what :D
It suits too well :)

Q: 404 Not Found image is itself 404

gparyaniIt looks like the image that is supposed to show up in the 404 error page has...itself gone 404, and shows a broken image. It looks like it's trying to load the image from https://cdn.sstatic.net/Sites/codegolf/img/404.png, but that link is 404 (as of right now). Can this please be fixed? (Also...

1:58 PM
Yes

Out of curiosity, is evading the Roomba easily detected, and is it a sanctionable offense? (i.e. deleting your question just before the script runs and undeleting it right after, and repeating every week)

It would certainly be annoying
And we might just delete it for you

@JourneymanGeek Is it easily detectable, and if so, often checked for and actually detected, however?

2:24 PM
Uhm. Don't get ideas
But someone will notice I suspect

Not that I would do it
(e.g. if it's easily listed out on a page, but that page isn't checked often, the former is true, but the latter is not)
@JourneymanGeek If I wanted to do something on the edge of nefarious, I'd just do it without asking "is it OK" here.

3:02 PM
@SonictheAnonymousWizHog gone
@SonictheAnonymousWizHog and gone

3:17 PM
and gone~♪

@Feeds flagged as too many flags

1 hour later…
4:57 PM
@MetaAndrewT. They forgot the flag + backpack for when someone graduates!

Not sure what happens but sometimes my active questions page seems to be from an hour ago or so. Refreshing doesn't help, at least not always. Am I just unlucky with being assigned that single stale webserver?

@rene I swear by the "newest" tab (Questions)... Even that needs refreshing, which always helps.

active keeps me informed on the occasional spam

@rene Very true: like spam answers to old questions?

yes, had one earlier today

@rene Maybe useful to keep two tabs open (newest & active). Do you use any auto tab refresher add on for your browser?

7:54 PM
Only on /review on MSE

@rene Review is the best place to use it! And I know too many tabs open gets crazy... especially when you're following a few sites!

yeah, I barely manage SO, MSO and MSE. That is enough for me.
and two chat tabs

@rene lol :D

8:35 PM
@rene Yeah, I think since 1 hour ago the 'active' tab was cached super-duper heavily
