@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog Been meaning to ask: Is this your anonymous brother? :)
@Spevacus Not me
I don't suggest edits anonymously anymore, aside from testing out bugs
Interesting.
There was another anonymous editor "Ano2" who started right after I came out and registered
00:29
This depends on the filesystem. Was it formatted to NTFS again? Was it formatted to a Linux filesystem like ext4 or btrfs? — forest Feb 3 '18 at 3:16
Why is my comment showing my name as if I don't have an account?
01:01
Ah shit, I just replaced all my avatars on all my sites, even though I had custom ones.
Meant to do "save changes for this community" but did "save changes for all".
Any way to undo that?
I had custom avatars on Worldbuilding, Parenting, Retrocomputing, and Crypto.
OK, I managed to restore the one on Crypto.SE.
I also managed to restore it on Retrocomputing.SE, but I'm having trouble with the others.
Looks like the web archive has some of them. Good.
There, I think I fixed them all.
01:34
@forestdistrustsStackExchange The question was migrated and you didn't have an SU account at the time.
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog Huh. Seems like SE could use a rework of how their database handles comments and associates them with accounts.
lol I can vote for my own comments on stackexchange.com/users/12417037/forest?tab=activity
Guess that's another issue caused by how SE's database handles comments!

Q: Comment authors are not getting migrated

Shadow The Vaccinated WizardBackground: when question is migrated from site A to site B and the author doesn't have account in site B, their name will appear "gray" until they log in to site B and associate the accounts, then the avatar show and all is good. No problems here, same for answers and their authors. Problem: if ...

@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog Well this particular issue was probably because of my account migration. None of those comments were on migrated questions.
Hm, looks like some of my bookmarks also didn't get migrated, but only on meta sites.
And my votes also weren't migrated. I'm able to double vote on worldbuilding.meta.stackexchange.com/questions/6397/…
One vote from network user 12417037, one from network user 8163816 (my current one).
Haha my list of posts on my current network account is broken too: stackexchange.com/users/activity/8163816/…
02:36
Hmm... I just saw "Companies to explore" on the sidebar, replacing the usual "Jobs for you"
I think this is new?

@forestdistrustsStackExchange don't think so... I just grabbed your gravatar and imgur ava options the last time

Daily riddle time! What's special about this egg?
!!/egg nog
@ShadowTheVaccinatedWizard No such command 'egg'.
Its a potato
that ^
@JourneymanGeek nope
@rene ^
This is an actual chicken's egg
10:20
archaeological find?
Dino egg
@Tinkeringbell yes! You get 5 Shadow Coins.
@rene nope, chicken.
No coins for you! :D
Now to hatch it and unleash another 1,5 years of lockdowns ;)
@Tinkeringbell sadly it's cracked, so all the contents leaked outside. :(
Ah, classical archaeological trick, only photograph the good side.
10:30
It was found in a "personal sewage" or whatever it's called.
yeah, 'ancient pile of poop' sounds about right.
hm.
I just tried to open up the inbox in the SE android app, to put in a FR for... stuff on a non official one and...
it crashed :(
It's like putting a corpse on a chair, and expecting it to perform actions... :D
The app is dead, corpse, lifeless.
I mainly need it for notifications
so I was trying to write up a FR for that for another app for android that's active :D
stackapps.com/questions/8753/stack-android-application so far its very ok. Other than that all you can do is read and answer :D
but It seems to be in active development so... worth a shot
10:49
@JourneymanGeek meh, author is single person, not very active on SO, I really wouldn't build my hopes high. Most chances he'll vanish one day without a trace, leaving a dead app behind.
@ShadowTheVaccinatedWizard possibly! But I don't see any particular alternatives at the moment
But yeah, can use it while it's working. (?)
@ShadowTheVaccinatedWizard there's ~4-5 dead ones so... I'm aware
@JourneymanGeek yeah, sad.
Well - with an official app, there's less need for it
And its very much a "poweruser" tool
11:07
Maybe with $1.8B they will have the resources to rebuild an official app...
Responsive website is a nice dream, but that's what it is: only a dream, years after they started this, it's not even close to be completed.
So mobile users get terrible user experience, and SO losing potentially good users because of that.
@ShadowTheVaccinatedWizard this is doubtful
@ShadowTheVaccinatedWizard Eh, its in progress. They have a half decade or so of tech debt to pay off
11:23
@ShadowTheVaccinatedWizard Yes and no I guess... It's annoying that doing basic community moderation tasks on mobile sucks. But I also think someone that's trying to start on mobile is already doomed for much different reasons than the ux :P
@ShadowTheVaccinatedWizard I think unless you're in an ultra restrictive environment, most of your SE, or even SO usage will be on a PC type device
mobile is very much for the 'hardcore' user :D
Pretty much
I seem to remember that SO internal codename for the Android app is Bernie...
@JourneymanGeek Also explains a lot....
That was a big update...
> 23 files changed, 366 insertions(+), 29 deletions(-)
all this in two days work. ;)
@JourneymanGeek sure, nothing against them and personally it would take me much longer, lol.
@Tinkeringbell yeah, good point. :)
11:54
@ShadowTheVaccinatedWizard in my case - its one of the main points of 'easy' contact for folks isn't working well
@JourneymanGeek well, by "potentially good users" I mean those who might get very active and perform reviews, etc.
Its not something I can leverage whatever little push I have on SE to get fixed, cause app is dead...
@ShadowTheVaccinatedWizard in theory everything but notifications is better off in the webapp,working well in the responsive design

Remember when the phrase "broke the internet" was really popular? Where is it now?
@Tinkeringbell 😂
@Tinkeringbell one gusss
Hint: NC
:D
Shouldn't that be "Luke, I think we broke the internet"?
@Spevacus "Breaking the internet" wasn't ever a literal thing though, IIRC? I only recall it as a reference to posting something that caused a lot of stir?
@JNat cross site low quality troll, posting very low quality contents most likely on purpose, to waste people's time. Won't be surprised if you'll find the IP address belongs to some other suspended troll. I might be wrong of course, but I'm afraid not in this case. Thanks for looking up!
@Tinkeringbell Yeah, but when the actual internet does break, it surprises me that nobody's using it!
ah, there it is
:)
But don't Google for "breaking the internet" if you're not alone. ;)

Many developers are skeptical of using low-code tooling to build software. Buying software instead of building it has advantages, especially when your goal is to iterate faster.
@janw where are you? :)
Northern Germany, near the baltic sea
In Lübeck, to be exact
@janw Rostock is 21 degrees Celsius, not really hot...
@janw Don't see that on the map?
:D It's like 25 degrees on the outside, but my room somehow is much warmer
@Feeds Using onebox to show snippet beautifully
14:16
@janw ohh of course, if it's closed and no AC
@ShadowTheVaccinatedWizard Yeah, they never mention it for some reason, although it is a nice city
It is between Kiel and Rostock
@janw probably not big enough. ;)
So you work from home? @jan
oh my 217,198 people live there, not so small.
@ShadowTheVaccinatedWizard Suspected the same, but "Perleberg" is much smaller :D
@ShadowTheVaccinatedWizard Yes, I'm in home office, mostly
But the university campus (where my office is) is only 300 meters away
@janw since COVID, or did you work from home before?
@janw awesome!
No, that is since COVID
14:20
@janw hmm.... so it means it's just where they have some monitoring stations, probably.
Yes, and probably also due to the low density of major cities in that region
@jan what you work at/for?
@ShadowTheVaccinatedWizard I'm a PhD student doing IT security research, but I also do a lot of teaching
Anyway my place is hotter!
:-P
🚽
14:22
:D Yeah, I can't compete with that :D
@janw nice. @forest also working with security, probably quite a few more here. :)
You ever hacked a site? (white hat, hopefully... ;))
@ShadowTheVaccinatedWizard Of course :P (both)
@janw lol, true. Also here, Dimona isn't a big city, there is much bigger places nearby with same weather, for some reason they chose the smaller place.
What are you doing for a living?
@KevinB is the climate better in there?
@janw programming, mainly web in recent years.
14:26
@ShadowTheVaccinatedWizard But my research area is rather different, I do "classic" cybersecurity only for teaching and CTF competitions
@ShadowTheVaccinatedWizard Nice
@janw nice :)
@janw thanks!
I also found myself doing lots of web development over the last year, when we suddenly had to do all teaching online :D
@janw ouch. How was it like? You managed to do it? Used Stack Overflow? ;)
We offer a practical cybersecurity course, where we show various attack techniques. So we needed to somehow automate that
@jan what about kids? Got any? ;) (three children for me)
14:29
Yeah, Stack Overflow was a major part in that :D
But I learned a lot in that time, definitely a good qualification for possible later employment
And it is really fun, since everything just works without massive manual intervention
@ShadowTheVaccinatedWizard Ha, not yet ;) It is an option, but a bit early for me
@Tinkeringbell They should get a gold star
@janw all good, lol. So you're in your 20's? I had my first when I was 31.
@janw I built a system where the students solve their exercises, and get those graded automagically
🤔
@ShadowTheVaccinatedWizard Alright - so four years left for me!

should we reject this migration?
Was migrated by a mod, as it looks
@Luuklag Why? It's about SE chat
Shouldn't this just be stackapps?
or a general programming problem
Hmm. Let's ask a StackApps mod! @rene ?
14:40
Or adjust the title to make it SE-specific, it really looks like a general programming question right now
Chat doesn't have an official API.
Does your site want me to forward that once more?
Or the one that isn't grayed out @Glorfindel ;)
Duh. Sorry, didn't think!
@ShadowTheVaccinatedWizard You were old btw ;)
14:46
@Luuklag well that's about the average age here for non-religious men. ;)
Yeah, it's similar here
@Luuklag did some polishing, hopefully helps
Well, not a turd so it's fine.
@Tinkeringbell I dupe hammered it already
I have ideas about what I want to be on-topic but I'll first want to find my rooting and then discuss a bit @Glorfindel and Tim to see if they agree.
Okay, fine... :P
15:03
@ShadowTheVaccinatedWizard then I am young I guess. Just turned 30 last sunday. Next month my daughter turns 5.
@Luuklag that's nice! And yeah, looks like you're lowering the average age, a bit. ;)
That said, my sister had a child when she was 20.
(not religious, and she did it on her own will, not accident or something like that ;))
@ShadowTheVaccinatedWizard not enough to compensate for my boss. He is 50, his oldest will turn 3 next month
@Luuklag oh wow, lol.
Also, I almost became daddy at 21, but thanks for The Day After pill, I didn't. :D
I always hate that, when I have to doubt if kids are with their parents or their grandparents
@ShadowTheVaccinatedWizard you might have liked it
@Luuklag nah... totally not ready, and girlfriend even less ready, she was only 18.
@Luuklag hmm? What do you mean?
Downside of being "old" parent?
15:11
Yeah. When I see kids at school and seeing theor parents makes me wonder if they are parents or grandparents
I always feel sad for those kids
Probably losing their parents before having children of their own.
@Luuklag ohhh... lol. :D
@Luuklag well yes, that's a big downside.
Heh, I'm in my 30s, and my child is... -6-8-year-old?
@MetaAndrewT. Haha lol
I can use that starting next year :)

@MetaAndrewT. Ugh, you already have one too?! :P
errr... I think my attempt at humor was too cryptic... perhaps -"6-8 y.o" might be better >_<
16:12
@MetaAndrewT. I still don't get it ? Either you have a 6-8 year old or not?
unfortunately, no :(

This is going to be another late night manually entering questions into an online tool with a very very poor back-end :(
Wow, did the font just change again?
especially in the top bar
looks like it became a lot narrower for me (FF on MacOs)
18:28
Question titles don't seem as monumentally massive anymore on the main page.
Someone gimmie some rep so I can see if they changed the font on rep gains ;)
Yeah I just refreshed on mobile and something seemed to change.. just don't quite see what yet :P
Honestly this looks pretty good. I like how things look atm.
I don't hate it yet :P
But then, it's been okay again for quite a while. I think I only really struggled with the first change.
I feel the same way. The first change was pretty... Yikes.
Everything after that has been pretty decent.
@Spevacus That one was hardly noticeable for me
this makes everything a lot narrower, which I honestly quite dislike
18:53
@Luuklag hmm... doesn't look so on Chrome for Windows. I have 2 tabs from yesterday, and comparing the top bar with the current active tabs, it doesn't look like there are any differences...
Well there definetly were changes for me, I refreshed a tab, and text size changed, espercially vertical size.
But seeing fonts are now OS based, it might be just for Mac users
19:21

How did it break? Does it only show SFW images?

Is there any easy way to calculate your moderator score without participating in an election?
@EkadhSingh sede
@EkadhSingh meta.stackexchange.com/a/252643/369802 ... found by using the search bar for 'calculate moderator score'.
my search fu escaped me
@Tinkeringbell thank you
20:06
Like rene said, you can use SEDE, but it's simple enough to just do a tally by hand ... I'd spend longer on a SEDE query than just looking up the numbers and adding them up :P
@EkadhSingh It's time for you to learn how to use the search bar too ;) The candidate score means nothing if you can't do so :P
@rene First rule of SE search bar: Use nouns :P Second rule: Use less nouns or different ones if nothing turns up, because the search bar is kinda dumb :P
You can't really get a mod score on MSE btw, not all badges are there. That makes for one awkward bunch of links in Shog's answer Tink listed
Hmm. I'm still scoring 31 according to SEDE on MSE :P
Not too shabby then ;)
The max here on Meta is 37, since three badges can't be earned here
Two are for per-site meta participation, while one is for voting in a prior election
I have a perfect 37
I lack 4, so that would put me at 33
20:11
I'm not sure, I think I lack at least 1 I have earned by now, which is the one for 500 flags.
@Tinkeringbell hah I beat you :)
But mods don't get awarded that one :)
@Luuklag Did you now? I'm still the one with the diamond :P
I like the score, and hate it at the same time.
If you count posts here tagged , I meet the criteria for the two per-site meta badges as well, so the only one lacking is the one for the prior election, but the same issue applies to all users, as for any site holding its first election, no one else would have it
Because while it does say something about how willing a user is to use the tools given to them, it does say nothing about whether or not the user keeps using the tools or is using them the right way after they got the badges :P
I miss one \o/ . I'm disqualified to be a mod on MSE
20:13
My candidate score still only 34/40 (on my site) :P
Hey that weird... if I type in 'interpersonal', and then click IPS main site in SEDE, it says I'm about to query meta, and if I click meta, it says I'm about to query main?
Anyone that can repro that?
@Tinkeringbell Getting confused with the logos in the site switcher?
Probably, yeah.
Weird logic.
It seems to query the right sites ... 35/40 on IPS, that's disappointing.

Q: Color of site icons on Stack Exchange Data Explorer is (not technically incorrect but) confusing

Lover of StructureIn the Stack Exchange Data Explorer, the icon color for the various sites seems* incorrect: Whenever I select a main site, the icon is greyed out, and when ever I select the corresponding meta site, the icon is colored. My initial instinct was to think that the colors of the main/meta sites follo...

@Tinkeringbell I build that feature. It works ™

@rene It's confusing :P

Tempted to downvote that XD
I dare you
Don't you dare! :P
I'll add you to the QA team on the next SEDE sprint
Hmmm. It's probably good for me to do such stuff, but not next sprint ;) I've got some other stuff coming up that I'll be busy with :)
First on that list: Sleep ;)

can someone send me the raw markdown of the standard Lost Soul comment people use on MSE?
"One of my sixth grade students had a predicted score of 286.34. However, the highest a sixth grade student can earn is a 283. The student did earn a 283, incidentally. Despite the fact she earned a perfect score, she counted negatively towards my evaluation because she was three points below her predicted score."

i tried loading it into my autocommenter manually but it's apparently too long by around 7 characters after removing the greeting, removing https://, etc, so clearly i'm doing something wrong
