@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog oh, I managed to extract the APK :D
I hear some folks have issues with newer versions of android and the official app tho

5:45 AM
@Tinkeringbell ... I just fixed my old phone, and the problem was... dumb
turns out the USB plug was filled with pocket lint. Gave it a good wet clean with some contact cleaner and plastic toothpicks and... uh...
it charges fine

@JourneymanGeek I didn't have any problems sideloading the app to Pixel 3a on Android 11, it's working flawlessly (until now)

6:03 AM
@MetaAndrewT. its been kinda crashy on my current phone running android... 10?

6:31 AM
@MetaAndrewT. I have the exact same configuration (the XL technically) and it works excellently

@JourneymanGeek And now? Now you have two working phones?

Well... actually... when I get the new one, 3 :D
THe phone before my current one had (2) broken screens so I ended up getting a new one.

Oh, well, can't hurt? :P

It was just such a simple (and non obvious) fix :D

i.stack.imgur.com/J5tJM.jpg < That was my charger last night at 1AM.
Little bit harder to fix XD

@Tinkeringbell Chargers are replacable :D
I have spares ._.
also, europlugs are weak. UK plugs are basically the nokia 3110s of power plugs :D

7:57 AM
Well this one lasted for years ;)
And yeah, I used a spare one too.

My old and current phones (and the one I just ordered) are all the same brand, and use the same fast charge system + I can charge them off standard chargers :D
and I have a bunch of USB PD chargers - which will work with the new phone

@JourneymanGeek My phone just uses a USB-C cable. That's as specific as it needs, anything else can be as generic or branded as you wish...

@Tinkeringbell Mine does too - but some phones do faster charging with some chargers
and I have a set up for charging newer laptops with USB C too :D

8:14 AM
Meh. Mine has all night each night to charge... I think the charger I just showed (and I'm using a second copy of that now) also does the fast charging, but it's not like I need my phone to be ready with charging at 2AM when I can sleep in :P

I charge my phone with my macbook charger when I want a fast charge. It didn't fast charge with the adapter it came with.

In the third lesson of the series, we’ll implement our first linear regression model with multiple predictors (this is called “multiple linear regression”). As an example, we’ll use a simulated dataset to predict student quiz scores. In the process, we’ll again practice our graphing and Python skills. Here are some Stack Overflow questions related to…

@Feeds Onebox Regression in Chat... wait, no...

I think we're going to need something official in the not too distant future to respond to questions like this one:

Q: Stack Exchange, Prosus, Naspers, apartheid, and white supremacy

G. SmithI know that this is probably off-topic but I am posting it anyway. I am having difficulty reconciling myself to contributing content to a site that is now owned by a subsidiary of Naspers, a South African company with a racist past of supporting decades of apartheid and white supremacy. The compa...

@PM2Ring What question?

@Tinkeringbell Ok, it's a statement, but it was posted as a Question, so I called it a question. Also, the OP posted this in a comment on an answer:
I would like to understand what Naspers’ reputation today is among black South Africans. If they now consider Naspers to be an inclusive company, then I agree that the past should be past. — G. Smith 10 hours ago
FWIW, Dr Smith is a major contributor on Physics.SE, with a lot of knowledge and excellent communication skills. It would be a big shame to lose him.

@PM2Ring I held my commentary on that meta post due to SE company itself had a black spot before.

5:42 PM
@PM2Ring Oh, there's no doubting it's a shame to lose a good contributor
I was just being pedantic ;) I don't often like these kinds of 'announcements' on meta, especially not if there's no question. Like, what do you want to know/see discussed? Don't leave it up to people to guess... (It's frustrating when you write an answer to a post and someone then comes 'but that's not my main point' without telling what the main point is then.)

@Tinkeringbell Understood. There's not much either mods or regular users can write as an answer in response to such announcements. But I guess the OP wants to know why SE feels that Naspers isn't tainted by its past. And how black South Africans currently feel about Naspers. I guess he can try to research that for himself, though.

@PM2Ring guesses, guesses :P (though yeah, based on the comment it's a good guess).
I saw a thread with some research on Twitter: twitter.com/jlericson/status/1401246105598193665?s=19 it also mentions the apartheid stuff. For what it's worth, most of that reads to me like yet another company using The Netherlands as a corporate tax haven

6:17 PM
@Tinkeringbell Thanks. I don't understand high finance, but I think Jon's saying that Naspers problem is that they're too dominant on the SA stock exchange, which impedes the natural flows of the free market. The big fish needs to lose some weight so that it isn't making all the waves in the pool. So it's moved some of that weight to The Netherlands, which is a much bigger pool. Any tax advantages are just a convenient additional benefit.

I don't understand finance enough either. But the news articles about tax evasion... Those I do understand enough to say I find that bad! ;)

Finance is extremely complicated, and there's many Lists of "Most Favorable Countries"; the Netherlands isn't first on any list:
A tax haven is a country or place with very low "effective" rates of taxation for foreign investors ("headline" rates may be higher). In some traditional definitions, a tax haven also offers financial secrecy. However, while countries with high levels of secrecy but also high rates of taxation (e.g., the United States and Germany in the Financial Secrecy Index ("FSI") rankings) can feature in some tax haven lists, they are not universally considered as tax havens. In contrast, countries with lower levels of secrecy but also low "effective" rates of taxation (e.g., Ireland in the FSI rankings)...

6:54 PM
@Rob Well not first but we're very consistently in ranking at least top 10, as far as I understand. We should be at the bottom of the list!
