However, the horribly accelerated rate of the rise in the global temperatures, caused primarily by the sudden increase in carbon dioxide, tells an entirely different story. It foretells mass extinctions that would throw the entire ecosystem of the planet off balance, for example, or that if the seas stood as high as when they did millions of years ago, entire countries would be flooded. —
