medium.com/@gajus/… shoot me an email if you can figure it out :p
why do people never buy one large monitor and choose to do this instead

4:41 AM
@user1306322 context switching

In my case, if for no other reason, because no one sells an ~50" 8000x2000 monitor

Actually....
that's ~8K...

but even if it existed I'd still probably want multiple independent screens so I could maximize to them separately and run a full screen game in the center with other stuff on the two side panels

a thing
its...

they're also flat at well beyond the maximum width where they're usable without a cuive as a desktop screen

nope. 1440p is garbage
and after checking a DPI calc I'd need more like 55" to match my current setup
slightly out of date (upgraded the center to a 4k a year ago), but this is what I've been using for about a decade orthogonaltonormal.com/midden/NewYearsResolution_4960x1600.jpg

5:51 AM
@user1306322 I dislike large monitors. I prefer a medium sized laptop screen, that I can easily see the whole thing at once. Large screens are just totally unappealing.

@Mithical I like my laptops small and my desktops big :D
I'm on 2x 27 + 10

@user1306322 Along with Dan and JG's comments, you'd need a NVIDIA Quadro RTX 5000 Turing GPU to get slow frame rates at 8K; you could end up with a bit more than 8K resolution at high frame rates for the money that card and an 8K monitor would cost. --- Also, notice there's two chairs and (at least) two computers, a single 8K monitor couldn't be enough. --- Arguably two 4K projectors and a few monitors would be a better setup, but it certainly wouldn't be cheaper. They probably bought all those

@Raedwald Oh and the 3 monitor setup makes sense if you say... stream?

Rob
bits and pieces over a period of years, not all at once; with a plan to set it up exactly that way.

one for gaming, one for chat one for seeing the mix ? IDK
@Rob My Core I9 9900k started life as a dell 530 I pulled from a dumpster :D
All I did was replace everything over a decade or so.

Rob
And now it looks like:

Actually keyboard is from the original rig

Rob
6:16 AM
😀

Its a little nicer than that
Actually replaced the monitors since then

Rob
If I could edit my 3 minute old post I'd have swapped that pic for one without the writing on the bottom.
@JourneymanGeek Nice setup.

Started with that :D

Rob
That's certainly more humorous.

And no. that purple thing is a torch.
IIRC I Threw out that CRT after it started spewing sparks from the VGA cable

Rob
6:26 AM
That tiny KBD looks annoying

Ya, It is :D
But useful in some ways. Swapped it for an IOgear one that's wireless and has a trackball for spare purposes.

Rob
Large trackballs are great - to play Missile Command

Marble sized

Rob

perfect for a HTPC

Rob
6:34 AM
The heavy weight of the ball kept it rolling
Mil-spec track balls are often 2-3", mouse balls are often the size of mouse balls.

7:31 AM
@It'sOver it was done while I was alone. Disappointing, I know. :D

7:42 AM
hmm.... ear is indeed too big-ish! Name stick, I'll think of a better avatar. Thanks for your patience and thanks for listening. :P

You're going to eventually run short of family friendly body parts

Legs... nose... chin... nails... this gives me four more months... :D
And all my parts are friendly! offended
:P
But hey, at least nobody will confuse me with @Shog now. ;-)

8:17 AM
Done! Ear still there, but not my own, for now. :)
@AndrasDeak and now? ;)

@ShadowWizardisEarForYou Your ear is too red tho
Oh, you changed it

@It'sOver was! Guess it was hot
Hope you saved my eye and ear locally, now they're gone. :P

hmm.... ear is indeed too big-ish! Name stick, I'll think of a better avatar. Thanks for your patience and thanks for listening. :P

Now I can picture this elf leprechaun thing when you're pissed off at SE

It's Link. From Zelda. Duh.
:P
I'm not pissed off at SE, I'm well beyond it
At this point, I have nothing towards SE the company.
But hey, even so, it's always a good time for....
@It's so what about your avatar change? What does it mean?

10:47 AM
No special reason; I just noticed I've changed many avatars and not one of them has been a kitten

Now you look like a pleading @bjb though. ;)

Shrug many have stripped themselves of any online identity after the recent crises

@Mithical did at first but came back in full glory. :D

Fickle
@πάνταῥεῖ Hey, it was a geological bit, OK

10:52 AM
I didn't even consider to change my avatar for years now.

@πάνταῥεῖ and name?

And clothes?
:D
:(

Weekly :D

lol
I had that privilege only during army.
(of not changing clothes daily)
ahh... good old times....
:D

@ShadowWizardisEarForYou Ears a suggestion, Mark Rylance from BFG:

Big Friendly Giant Ear
That movie was . . . weird.

Well you're not gonna eat it
. . . Right?

Ugh, stupid keyboard

11:13 AM
lol
Blame the keyboard, yeah
:D
Well, I know the taste of hair. Not pleasant. But also not the reason I don't find hairy ears very attractive. :-)

@ShadowWizardisEarForYou much better, thanks :P

:)
So guess I'll skip the nose

11:31 AM
@ShadowWizardisEarForYou Actually, does it have a taste? I guess just that it feels like something rigid in your mouth is unpleasant

@Rob nah. blonde hair is more tasty.
Also, this is really good:

@ShadowWizardisEarForYou Absolutely NSFW, food pictures: inkedmag.com/pop-culture-2/…

2:59 PM
@Rob lol! But... no hair.... :(

Well, that's what we expect nowadays, no?

Rob
You missed the Cotton Candy: i.stack.imgur.com/En8y1.jpg

I don't want to deal with hair, when eating seafood.

@πάνταῥεῖ well, it's not seafood. ;)
Anyhow, that's better than any NSFW food here:
Plain and big steak.

Rob
@ShadowWizardisEarForYou You two noticed that there are 15 images, you have to scroll the gallery widget.

3:04 PM
lol
Well I don't consider that pink stuff as hair. :D

Rob
JG, well said (cross post answer).

3:20 PM
Lol. I was going to post the same question tommorow 🤣
So had the answer already in my head

it seems a bit odd that I can VTRO deleted posts
...and even cast a 5th vote, and have it be reopened while deleted and it stays deleted but now open

7:07 PM
affects the post state if its undeleted, I guess

Rob
7:52 PM
@Mithical Yaakov says to ask a new question if any new bugs shake out after the 'Post Notices' update. Both deleted and open is an erroneous state, it's sort of the opposite of undeleted and closed (which is possible); apparently both are being allowed.

8:07 PM
@Mithical Link to the question please?

@Mithical That's one of those not-quite-bug not-quite-intentional changes that the team has decided to leave as is.
That said, it wasn't possible in 2011. My majority guess is that this behavior was introduced when close/reopen votes were refactored internally to be represented as flags rather than as votes, which happened around the same time the first post I linked was made.
(Another side effect of said refactoring was that users with <15 rep would be blocked from casting close votes on private beta sites, while they were previously able to; nothing was done about it for a number of years until I brought it up, at which point the privilege was simply upped to 15.)
Yet another change with the refactoring may have been that aged close/reopen votes now had a proper history record, which meant the team could implement a 2015 change to allow them to be recast. Prior close votes cannot be recast, even today.

Just regarding that little discussion about avatar changing we had today:
@ChrisW Yes. And that's by-design :-P — πάντα ῥεῖ 13 mins ago

@πάνταῥεῖ heh, I wonder what that guy's backstory is
Does Medical Sciences not endorse homeopathy? SACRILEGE

Too much globuli taken perhaps :-P

Speaking of bullshit doctors, alternative medicine enjoys spikes of interest here :/
It's interesting though that vaccines don't cause autism or infertility or whatever when COVID is spreading, only every other time

Globuli made of bullshit, D12 or so ...

Q: Why have we evolved to snore yet find snoring so annoying?

zoobyHuman's snore. I doubt this is a new occurence over the last millenia. I find it hard to believe that for the past million years, no human ancestor has been a snorrer. And yet, the sound of snoring is incredibly irritating to humans. Could there be any evolutionary basis for these two facts? O...

Wow this guy an expert, I can immediately tell.

10:11 PM
LOL

Anyway, enough taking behind Cookie Monster hairball behind their back, I was just making sure
Although I think I recall other complaints? MedSciences I think gets more complaints than other sites
At least completely OT complaints on a site no one cares or can do anything about it

As science is probably taken more as fake science nowadays. Blame Trump and co.

OK, I think this question is the culprit.
So, what else is new?
Any updates on SE working™ with the community (again? For the twenty third time?)?

Sounds a bit racist for me (I've seen that before).

Geological bit?

10:18 PM
Humans are humans, no?

More than just a bit for me, but who am I to say.

I was trying to be moderate.

A question composed like that is probably ultimately reaching the conclusion "so we are superior to them"

OK, then we can agree that this s***e was absolutely reacist ;-)

There are obviously genetic differences here; people with different skin colors (inaccurate, but accurate enough) are proven to be susceptible to different degrees to various illnesses. Sometimes, black people are more vulnerable, sometimes "brown", sometimes white, and whatever other colors are there
But to very unscientifically ask the loaded question of how the macroscopic internal features differ, like they have differently shaped organs, it's obviously trying to get something it can quote out of context.

10:21 PM
But these differences doesn't make any humans superior to others.

Aye
Only prettier humans are superior

The blonde one's of course ;-)

Why did he end in a comma,
It's itchy, dangit
@Journey can you edit that q_q

I have a hankering to ask "why isn't iconic the opposite of conic, and what does ronic mean?" on main.

10:39 PM
Oo
@It'sOver well first part should be this week

1 hour later…
11:49 PM
@It'sOver the opposite would be either inconic, unconic or aconic (or anticonic)
I don't think many opposite meaning words start with i- or in- or that you can apply this prefix to a lot of stuff
like interesting -- iinteresting? ininteresting?
orange - iorange? inorange?
inorganic is cool but innervating isn't
