to be fair, I use ublock origin for blocking ads and I also use No Emoji to remove all emoji symbols everywhere, except these emoji lookup sites so they don't look so empty
the closest thing to a cone-shaped hat-like looking thing is a party popper, but they all have confetti so rotated it looks like the hat is without brim and the face is covered in vomit

@user1306322 That would be sock-puppetry, and would result in a suspension before deletion, which would be auto-reinstated on later accounts. With anonymous edits, there is no account, so such edits can't be blocked without rejecting them as spam.
@user1306322 If you're suspended or banned, you can't do tons of things with your main account, so doing them with a sock puppet is not allowed. Some people don't really understand that, so there's a separate rule called "ban evasion" or "suspension evasion"
or did you mean the situations where suggested edits by unregistered accounts can result in more timed suspensions than registered accounts, and playing around that is kinda iffy?
I remember when I used to edit this site anonymously that many of my drastic updates to FAQs would trip the filter, and I had to use VPNs to work around those blocks very frequently.
In one case, there was just one sentence that was making it trip, and removing it caused it to submit just fine.

Locally, the no-win-no-fee lawyers are particularly interested in personal-injury cases, like workplace injuries and auto accidents.
I couldn't use a local lawyer (need someone who's admitted to the bar in NY), but I started with my personal attorney and learned things along the way.

Hi @Monica, congrats on hitting your 10k goal. You may want to consult a tax attorney since donations past 10k enter into being required to pay taxes for, I believe.
Yeah, that happens sometimes. Once upon a time I had to take over all of the contract negotiations and creation (i.e. legal coordination). It is a steep learning curve, but at least it doesn't go that far. Once you get a grasp of the general nature of legal documents, as in define everything, it starts to be kind of straightforward.
I am sure the phrase indemnify will come up in your case
Still flabbergasted here at the situation. Was someone asleep at the helm? I suppose there was perhaps no CEO at the time but ... I don't know. Odd times. The retraction should have taken place immediately. It is still going to happen. It will just come with a fine and an unhappy community. I don't really see where any benefit is coming from this overall process.

If that happened at my company, we would have issued a retraction immediately, given our employee a week off with no pay with a formal write up, and issued an apology. The thing is, aside from the internal process, I would have expected Stack Exchange to have done something very similar up until a few weeks ago when that didn't seem to happen.
@TravisJ I emailed Joel about it while he was still CEO, and knowing that he remains chairman of the board so it's not like he was completely on his way out. No response.
Hard to tell how involved he remains, and also it is likely he would be more inclined to "punt" the issue to the new CEO; especially considering how seemingly high profile this is.
@TravisJ at this point I donβt think itβs coming. They either do not genuinely recognize the problem or theyβre too scared to change course. Either way, absent a change of either of those two things, we arenβt going to get anywhere.
@SonictheReinstateMonica-hog true, but in the past Joel has written things that implied he's directly reachable. Doesn't mean it's true today, of course.
@TravisJ I went to Joel (before the change) because I assumed at the time that the "urgency" was some desire to have this done before that change. I was guessing something like an acquisition or major VC investment or something at the start of the new quarter. If it happened it was quiet, though.
@MonicaCellio Unsure. A lot of people gave Joel a hard time for weighing in on issues, but I always liked it. Now, I think perhaps we are seeing the downside of not having that availability.

The best outcome is a lawyer is able to negotiate some sort of agreement. Understanding US defamation law as I do (IANAL), I donβt see any claims prevailing in a trial

@GeorgeStocker the best ooutcome for all involved is a negotiated settlement. My lawyer is an expert in defamation law so we'll proceed in a way that's best for me.
