@SonictheIntrovertedHedgehog That pattern looks like it's already caught by Potentially bad keyword in body and Potentially bad keyword in answer; append -force if you really want to do that.
@Magisch Full story starts here. Long story short: Nespresso makes a mess in version control and is now on vacation, and I'm stuck finding out how to fix it without making stuff worse.
@Tinkeringbell git: perfect for cherry picking security patches and reapplying them between different linux kernel branches.... Not so good for managing the average "agile development" project.
but everyone uses it! Must be good! FOR EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@Derpy This isn't even agile. We could've just done the cherry pick thing carefully and be fine, but no, we got to pretend to be agile so there won't be any cherry picking.
Heck, we could've even just merged things through without reverting anything: as long as we don't put a validation rule in the config (which is not in git and still done manually) the code does nothing...
@Magisch In this case, true. IT doesn't even allow me to manually update the config files on a test server, meaning I have to a.) have code reviewed and merged into a branch, b.) wait until the code is put on the test server with a nightly build c.) mail someone the next morning and hope they're awake/at work and have time to quickly adapt the config file so that someone can start testing.
I've shouted 'GIVE ME PRIVILEGES ALREADY' a few times, doesn't work.
in my company it's not agile at all, some sort of scuffed waterfall model (eg all developers have 100% production and test access, we just have our projects and work on them, sometimes together, and have a weekly status meeting. few hard deadlines
On Feb 5, 2019, a data breach was reported and a Stack Overflow Product Manager admitted to causing it.
We got an "oops, sorry, won't happen again". For some, this is not enough, considering it's not the first data breach caused by sloppiness on handling personal information.
As I can not see ...
@Tinkeringbell It was 15 minutes ago! Was this a restaurant, I would have already left! Where is the chaos? Where is the promised drama? My pop-corn is getting stale.
@Bookends yep. Just deleted.
This is indeed pretty strange.
not like that comment was particularly noisy or rude.
If I were wearing a tinfoil hat, I would say this is an intricate attempt at avoiding anyone asking there.
..... to be fair... it has been a while since the cactus last message....
they must have already gotten him
this means....
we are next!
quick, @Bookends, hide on that bookshelf! I will hide in that muffin cupboard!

@Bookends to be honest, not sure what they expect SE to do. Fire the one responsible for the mistake? Compensate those affected? Both appear to be overkills IMO.
hmm... unless compensation is in the form of swag. :)
so, if I am right the old text can be rewritten as:
> Under no circumstances will Network Users use the Network or the Service to (a) send unsolicited e-mails, bulk mail, spam or other materials to users of the Network or any other individual,
@ShadowWizard Nespresso created the mess, I needed to write out what happened to figure out what happened and how to fix it (get A2/B2 back in release branch)
@Derpy I think whatever I did to fix it has caused potential for a huge merge conflict later on (when Nespresso tries to revert the revert), but that's not going to be my problem. I already notified the scrum master of this ;)
That's going to be the team I'll stick with for a looong time hopefully ;) and if not, I'm going to find another company to be contracted out to, I'm getting tired of new codebases to try and understand every few months.
Been a while, but... latest... SEEN... Android.SE still has 2(1?) days left for the voting phase, Workplace.SE is going strong with 3 candidates for 1 position (soon voting phase!), while Freelancing.SE may be failing...
> On February 18, if there are three or more candidates, we'll run an election. If not, I'll simply appoint the candidates. -- Announcing a Pro Tempore election
@Tinkeringbell well, it should when it happens more than once then.
It's like trying to revive a dead body...
No candidates means nobody of the site core users care enough about the site to become mod, or more likely the site has no core users at all. Such a site is dead already.
@Bookends Of the three mods on Freelancing, are there any that are intending to resign?
@ShadowWizard Not necessarily. SE has stated that sites should have three mods as a guideline, though they can get by with two if they are really active.
@ShadowWizard That's true. If there's repeatedly no response, that may happen. But a site won't get shut down after just 1 election where no-one steps forward. Besides, someone may care a lot about the site but not want to become a moderator ;)
@SonictheIntrovertedHedgehog That pattern looks like it's already caught by Bad keyword in answer and Bad keyword in body; append -force if you really want to do that.
@Bookends that's really weird. The only candidate was already a mod.....
(since 2016)
So... wonder how come he didn't get a second diamond! :P
Fixed!

Yeah, the Korean pro tem election essentially failed since nobody volunteered. A mod nominating in a pro tem election is just a weird thing with no consequence.
user302202
Strictly speaking, that mod-candidate should have been removed and the election declared a failure.
user302202
But it's easier to do nothing and say that it completed automatically.
Workplace.SE has 3x visits per day as it has questions. SE could simply make it 'read only' (like when they're doing maintenance) if they find it's not manageable with the Moderators and users helping out. Actually shutting it down makes little monetary sense, as it pays it's way.
Still better than Yahoo! Answers health section/sub forums, when I checked there years ago, 99% of the questions were the same. (You can imagine what it was, I guess. lol :))
> Before putting it back on, I would consider that IPS often pushes users away from Stack Exchange as a whole. I know people who don't go on SE purely because IPS is always in their face.
@ShadowWizard Interestingly, the Wikipedia community proposed a requirement to require users to be autoconfirmed (fulfill basic new user restrictions) in order to be able to create articles. The request was rejected by the system admins initially, but they later agreed to a trial, and after that trial, it was made permanent.
@Tinkeringbell who needs IPS nowadays? Nahh, if you want a sucessful site try something like scams.stackexchange.com, a site where you can share techniques to scam people.
@Tinkeringbell IPS's removal from HNQ has a bright side: it allows moderators to create an artificial question with an artificial vote count for displaying on the tour page, without causing confusion.
@ShadowWizard You must have more than 300 reputation to nominate yourself as a candidate in this election. ... so I visited the election on freelance.se ... don't say I don't care ... ;)
that's the old Reddit conceit: "yes, the front page is trash garnished with trash covered in a chunky trash icing and stuffed with a smooth filing of trash... But if you customize your subreddit subscriptions you can block all the popular ones and have a homepage full of useful stuff... that you have to continually garden because everyone else is chasing the same thing"
@Derpy Company sent out a training email with that address showing up bigger than the entire email text. Now, I may be a blonde but I'm not that dumb that a.) I'll fall for that trick or b.) Will take a lot of time to report the phishing attempt as it's so obviously fake (hence the refusal to be trained)
Lots of people ought to have received better parenting. Occasionally I mention that if the person is old enough, I wouldn't say to a child that their parents are ... and thus have a lot of problems, but I've explained that to teenagers and adults.
@Tinkeringbell Don't try to fool us. You failed the test and will have to take part to the advanced Security 101 classroom, starting in 6-8 something from now.
We recently opened a call for new moderators to step up and help lead this site, which was met with a few upvotes and a lot of tumbleweeds rolling by. Given the non-existent interest there, we were forced to look more closely at the health of this site and whether this community is suitable to co...
You know why I feel bad about the whole HNQ matter? Because I was caught in the middle of all this. Sure, this event wasn't my entire fault, but I'm feeling very bad for provoking it. After it happened I felt very angry at myself for asking that question there. The whole situation has just been giving me discomfort.
they did? Probably many users wouldn't agree on that one
Forget about the whole legal issue for a moment and you will notice that many are genuinely upset not because incident but because it is the last in a sequence of very odd events
Yeah but I really think 95% of affected users will just want to use that coupon anyway and share their email with Amazon themselves. That leaves just a very small group that's truly affected
Anyway, will be interesting to see if that post on the other meta - the one requesting info about the incident aftermath will get any noteworthy reply.
To be fair, as now I am pretty curios to see if my question about the ToS and Ask Ubuntu will get any comment too.

@SonictheIntrovertedHedgehog I don't think this would fix anything. "I went to Stack Overflow and saw text that made me uncomfortable / feel unwelcome" is the entire user story here. It does not matter if the text came from another site or from an alien spaceship, or that it could be hidden with site settings.
This proposal has just a couple days left until it gets closed for not meeting the 4-month deadline for Definition. Just recently, a bunch of votes were invalidated causing its number of questions with 10+ score to plummet.
