Yeah, they're good. Especially the freshly baked ones.

@Tinkeringbell Never tried them freshly baked, but this particular manufacturer does them really well
Airlines here have taken a liking to them, they're giving them out as free snacks

10:33 AM
@Magisch Full story starts here. Long story short: Nespresso makes a mess in version control and is now on vacation, and I'm stuck finding out how to fix it without making stuff worse.

@Tinkeringbell git: perfect for cherry picking security patches and reapplying them between different linux kernel branches.... Not so good for managing the average "agile development" project.
but everyone uses it! Must be good! FOR EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@Derpy This isn't even agile. We could've just done the cherry pick thing carefully and be fine, but no, we got to pretend to be agile so there won't be any cherry picking.
Heck, we could've even just merged things through without reverting anything: as long as we don't put a validation rule in the config (which is not in git and still done manually) the code does nothing...

@Tinkeringbell fun fact: about 99.9% of the agile development projects aren't actually agile.

But noooo, we don't want any code in development that isn't running.

this estimate is probably rounded down, too..

agile sounds so good in theory but management never wants to actually cede the complete control

same applies to free market

@Magisch In this case, true. IT doesn't even allow me to manually update the config files on a test server, meaning I have to a.) have code reviewed and merged into a branch, b.) wait until the code is put on the test server with a nightly build c.) mail someone the next morning and hope they're awake/at work and have time to quickly adapt the config file so that someone can start testing.
I've shouted 'GIVE ME PRIVILEGES ALREADY' a few times, doesn't work.

in my company it's not agile at all, some sort of scuffed waterfall model (eg all developers have 100% production and test access, we just have our projects and work on them, sometimes together, and have a weekly status meeting. few hard deadlines
no user stories or anything

@Magisch seems you missed the main point of "being agile". ^_^'
in some companies, the term agile is just an excuse to cut on project management and structure, and let the dev (aka: last wheel) fill up the gaps.

10:59 AM
"being agile" is to be always ready for last-minute new feature requests :)

@Tinkeringbell you should bite them

@ShadowWizard nope, that is a custom map and as far as I know, "Cloud" is the name of their cat.
Seems "escape [insert character name]" parkour/platforming maps are very popular in Roblox, they tried to make one in Minecraft. That is the result.

@JourneymanGeek aren't the "Subscriber" there the users of the network?
I wasn't talking about the Amazon thing....

1:10 PM
SE doesn't require subscription so no, I don't think so.

> Profile Content is information about you (a Subscriber) that is contributed by you or inferred about you by your activity. Profile Content includes, but is not limited to, display names, reputation scores, avatars, your role and company, and other user generated content found on a Subscriber's profile such as "About Me" content.
they called the users "Subscriber"

> yeah, "oops, won't happen again". I believe that SO tries to keep higher standards than other companies, and this question is a bit to test that.

@ShadowWizard This is the GitLab mess I've been untangling today.

so as far as I read it "Subscriber == users" in the old ToS

@Bookends that really, really reminds me of IPS-HNQ extravaganza...

@Bookends to be honest, not sure what they expect SE to do. Fire the one responsible for the mistake? Compensate those affected? Both appear to be overkills IMO.
hmm... unless compensation is in the form of swag. :)

@Bookends oh. Well... personally I can see why SE will just close such a site instead of spending tons of CM time on it.

@Bookends That means anyone who can repcap on Freelancing in 5 hours gets a free diamond out of it
which might be a tall order considering the most active member of the site has gained 216 rep in total this year

@Tinkeringbell well, it should when it happens more than once then.

No candidates means nobody of the site core users care enough about the site to become mod, or more likely the site has no core users at all. Such a site is dead already.

@Bookends Of the three mods on Freelancing, are there any that are intending to resign?
@ShadowWizard Not necessarily. SE has stated that sites should have three mods as a guideline, though they can get by with two if they are really active.

2:26 PM
@SonictheIntrovertedHedgehog well but if they run elections on a site, it's for a good reason.

@ShadowWizard That's true. If there's repeatedly no response, that may happen. But a site won't get shut down after just 1 election where no-one steps forward. Besides, someone may care a lot about the site but not want to become a moderator ;)

@SonictheIntrovertedHedgehog not that I could find of

Maybe because Wikipedia doesn't have that concept?
(i.e. nothing is off topic on Wikipedia)

Rob
Workplace.SE has 3x visits per day as it has questions. SE could simply make it 'read only' (like when they're doing maintenance) if they find it's not manageable with the Moderators and users helping out. Actually shutting it down makes little monetary sense, as it pays it's way.

I... don't think anybody was considering shutting down TWP.

@Rob and a gum wrapper

@ShadowWizard Interestingly, the Wikipedia community proposed a requirement to require users to be autoconfirmed (fulfill basic new user restrictions) in order to be able to create articles. The request was rejected by the system admins initially, but they later agreed to a trial, and after that trial, it was made permanent.

@Shog9 IMO allowing users to filter HNQ by site and letting newer users know that HNQs are in fact from sister sites will mostly fix the issue. The tweet was probably triggered by the user not knowing the purpose of the list, which was previously pointed out in a famous micro-study.

@Alex The correct word is "noncommunicative".

@SonictheIntrovertedHedgehog That sentence is from the American Medical Association Archives of Neurology and Psychiatry.

@Alex They need to improve their English then.

4:30 PM
@Alex yeah, I should've used 'irreversible' but my English didn't want to work.

@SonictheIntrovertedHedgehog Perhaps. Or English is more flexible then it may seem at first glance.
@Tinkeringbell I don't think anyone didn't understand what you meant.

@ErikA so, what would have changed if you didn't? Less drama? Less rants? Less "GDPR FEES!!!!" screams?

> uncommunicative: not disposed to talk or impart information -- Merriam-Webster
still possible

There are many examples where "un" means essentially the same thing as "non".

@Derpy Probably just mailed it instead of creating a meta post. Then SE would've known about the issue, no fuss no drama at all
Or posted it on MSE, different audience, way less drama

4:33 PM
usually it you have an issue with someone the only way to solve it is to solve it. Which mostly of the times requires talking.
Ignoring the issue because you fear it will explode in something worse....

@Derpy a welcoming tweet posted in April that links to a HNQ about GDPR

... usually has only the effect of hiding resentment under the carpet

I think I got 5 strikes out of 5...

Ignore a problem now, so that it will come up again tomorrow

The whole GDPR unlawful sue SE fire everyone!! stuff is just near harrasment, not at all what I wanted, in a mail they could've thought carefully
And apparently thinking it over is not what MSO wants, they are asking for an update while imo SE already has posted adequate answers.

4:37 PM
they did? Probably many users wouldn't agree on that one
Forget about the whole legal issue for a moment and you will notice that many are genuinely upset not because incident but because it is the last in a sequence of very odd events

Yeah but I really think 95% of affected users will just want to use that coupon anyway and share their email with Amazon themselves. That leaves just a very small group that's truly affected

events that - still based on what seem to be a common opinion - seems to show that lately too many decision were taken without enough thinking

apparently it made me tired to concern about that, so I'll ignore the issue just like the HNQ incidence~

But let's not argue about it, that has been done enough

@ErikA you may fail to take in account that even in that 95% share... some may NOT want to have amazon realize they work in the IT field.
or at least that is yet another point that gets made a lot.

@ShadowWizard gone

Anyway, will be interesting to see if that post on the other meta - the one requesting info about the incident aftermath will get any noteworthy reply.

To be fair, as now I am pretty curios to see if my question about the ToS and Ask Ubuntu will get any comment too.

@SonictheIntrovertedHedgehog I don't think this would fix anything. "I went to Stack Overflow and saw text that made me uncomfortable / feel unwelcome" is the entire user story here. It does not matter if the text came from another site or from an alien spaceship, or that it could be hidden with site settings.

@ShadowWizard and gone

btw, unrelated....
Is Glorfindel gone on vacation?
Second time I manage to post the "lost soul" comment before he can.

very odd, I always assume he was just a very well made bot, seems he actually is human (or pony) after all.
@Glorfindel Where are you gone? ^ I will steal all your close votes if you don't come back :P

@ShadowWizard aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand gone
@SonictheIntrovertedHedgehog and gone too!

Does SEDE max out at 3420 results?

@Derpy I just did this too, but I am using the same userscript (he wrote it)

Depends on the query @Mithrandir

Oh, right; it does specify 3420 in the query. I ran it on SO, though, so I was confused why it always gave me the same number of results :P

Yeah, but size still matters a lot
Group by increases the results included, but some queries time out at some sizes
that's why my recent flag and edit target queries limit it to 1000 posts

Yeah, that's what I usually do as well, but this is someone else's ancient query that I've never really used on SO before - only smaller sites

5:21 PM
I just made a basic query to find answers containing help outside quotes and it timed out xd
Hopefully that doesn't mean there's that many NAA's .-.

@Asuna That's a weak signal. stackoverflow.com/search?q=help+is%3Aa

This proposal has just a couple days left until it gets closed for not meeting the 4-month deadline for Definition. Just recently, a bunch of votes were invalidated causing its number of questions with 10+ score to plummet.

@Mrs.Robinson expanded to help me outside quotes, max score 1.

user302202
Even with max score 0, a weak signal. stackoverflow.com/search?q=help+is%3Aa+score%3A..0

user302202
The word "help" naturally appears in reference to help pages, "this should help", and so on.

user302202
It is not a strong indication of a request.

6:18 PM
newest "please help" answers with score of 0 or less ... "please help" is also used by answerers to request for improvement on their valid answers
although meta-commentary, but still not NAA
"i need help" looks similar...

oh well
It was worth a try ^^"

SO is actually quite good in removing blatant NAA of the "trying to ask" category. The answer/comment distinction is another matter.
