@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog I'll tell you straight up, I'm pretty biased against anything that might discourage editing
I'd want to see real harm before considering anything like this

1:44 AM
@Shog9 Peter's extremely prolific editing here, of questions closed within the last five days?
We could not show it for the author

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog Why would we want to prevent Peter from editing?
Most of those posts will never be edited by anyone else. Telling him to wait on the off chance that the OP will come back themselves... doesn't make sense to me. If the OP does edit the post, it will pop up to the top of the active list and people will be able to manually nominate it for reopening if the edit is sufficient.

I'd expect it'll get fixed when someone
A
dang
my keyboard seemed to have gone nuts
I hope its not dying, I like this keyboard :(

3:28 AM
my lap's keyboard is already dead

Oh, this is a old razer, cherry blues, blue LEDs
had it ... for quite a while? ;p

When I turned my lap upside down one day, the start, control and alt buttons fall down

ow
Oh, mechanical keys don't break
I just need to turn it off and on again unplug and replug it

Sometimes that's the only option. :P

Its the easiest option too

3:33 AM
I'm planning to buy new one. Still confused. Mac or Chrome Book

I got an awesome MBP...

from SE?
or your own?

From SE.
My personal computer is also a MBP but I bought it refurbished.

and how's the performance?

... and it's from 2011

3:37 AM
O_O

Yeah, it's old ... but I've replaced the hard drive with a ssd and put in 16 gb of ram.

great

@OptimusPrime I like it a lot. It's fast and quiet and the only thing I miss are ports... all it has is four of the new thunderbolt ports.

Yeah, I have an external monitor that's connected using a Thunderbolt 2->3 adapter and the monitor has a bunch of USB ports, so that works for me.

3:45 AM
are you working from home or their office

@OptimusPrime those machines are polar opposites ;p
@Catija SE gets that folks need kickass hardware :)

Home. It'd be a 1700 mile commute every day.

(its fun to read nick's periodic updates on their dev machines. Which usually make me drool)

Yeah, Macs are the default but for people who need or prefer Windows stuff, they make it happen.
And I got hired like a week or two after the new MBP release, so that was really awesome timing.

XD
My current office laptop is odd

3:48 AM
Odd how?

she's actually pretty darned good, but the VPN takes up a inordinate amount of processor power.

The company I previously worked uses mac mini with Dell monitor, mouse and kbd for iOS app development

Poor connection?

Well other folks don't report the same issue so I don't know
In any case I want to move on at the end of the contract so... ehhhh
Well, the office dongle works ok - that phone company has an indoor antenna so it works great
so not poor connection
also has a dented corner ._.

@JourneymanGeek yeah. And I guess they're going to rule the world coz microsoft is already working hard to join windows with linux.
No wonder even if they released a winux or lindows

3:51 AM
@OptimusPrime I disagree

Yeah, I have all Apple stuff... Apple monitor (which is beautiful but they stopped making, apparently)... and I got wireless keyboard (including number pad) and trackpad that I just leave plugged in all the time to not kill the batteries.

but I tend to love my commodity and odd machines
lol
@Catija well, ya
they recommend an LG one now?
But if you needed a good solid monitor, I am very partial to dell.

@JourneymanGeek I think that's what they sell in-store now... not sure.

Dell is Austin based, and UT uses them pretty much exclusively, so my last work computer was a Dell with two of their monitors and they were really nice monitors.

3:54 AM
@Catija they are solidly made (though not pretty) and their professional lines have really nice stands
(tilts and rotates!)
does not slice and dice however.
One of my monitors is their 2015 4k model, still available, and very good. (the other is a korean thing that's cheap ;p)

No julienne fries?

no
;p
I'm debating getting monitor arms

For at home?

yup
Work setup is pretty fixed

Figured.

4:01 AM
and 'shared'
sadly I'm a bit spoilt by my setup at job -2
older machine, but 4 core (2 processor) with 16 gb of ram, and 2 monitors ;)

had breakfast and now watching Baghamathi

current job is 2+1 1080p monitors (which is nice)
home is 2x 4k ;)

1 hour later…
5:26 AM
Morning Afternoon
I guess I need to buy a mechanical keyboard... too much mashing games...

lol
Actually for those a decent membrane might work.
or something with very little key travel

5:53 AM
after watching some YouTube videos about mechanical keyboard... now it makes sense what the color on the keyboard name means...

oh
There's an SU post that covers cherries
they're just arbitrary name for different switch varients in a brand

6:05 AM
Is low travel the same as low profile keyboard? Google suggested so, but to clarify more?
hmm... I guess not.

not really
travel is how far the key needs to be pushed before it actuates
I prefer a good amount of travel , Some people do not
