@Trufa that's a long story! I am still labouring away on a huge project that has been running since more than one and a half years. I did try to find work in tourism in Cologne back in winter/spring, but nothing worked out - Germans are so fixated on degrees, sadly, and of course I have nothing to show in that field. My great wish is to make it to the US on a Green Card - for that, I'm even willing to stay in IT with a full-time job (which is an immigration requirement anyway).
I hope the US work out next year. It's really tough to find a job though, as the legal paperwork for immigration is so taxing for both the employee and the prospective employer. (You need the promise of a job to even get a chance to apply for a work visa or Green Card.)
@EatmoreTwisters I though Europeans did not need a visa, I have a spanish passport and I always though I was allowed in with no visa (green card I guess it's a different story)
@Trufa it's no problem to travel the US, but it is a huge issue to live and work there.
It's similar in Europe - you have to jump through a lot of hoops to get permission to hire somebody from Russia or India.
The thing all US immigrants long for is the Green Card, the permanent right to live and work in the country. They have a lottery every year, maybe I get lucky there!
@EatmoreTwisters I can imagine. A family friends, had huge economic trouble (here in uruguay) they tried to get the green card for years and years, amazingly they actually won it in the green card lottery
> For DV-2012, natives of the following nations are ineligible: Brazil, Canada, China (mainland-born), Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, India
@EatmoreTwisters yeahh, I mean it's not that horrible, but I don't like the moral behind that, they should only give it to the ones that deserve it. Also I think it plays with people illusions. But maybe Im over reacting
@Trufa I see what you mean, but the effect of that would probably be that people from poorer countries would be largely shut out (seeing as they often don't have University education etc.) This way, there is some chance even for them to "make" it in the US... But I'm no expert on the topic, I don't know how it works in reality.
@Trufa And if all that doesn't work out, I'll have to learn Spanish and move to Lanzarote. I'll live in a trailer and make a living selling art to tourists or something. :) It's such a beautiful and simple island - although very rough at times, with heat waves and sandstorms from Africa.
@EatmoreTwisters I have family in austria, my cousin is studied tourimsn/hotel/something/something maybe if you are ever around there and you are interested I could give him a call
@EatmoreTwisters I see you have some dreams! nice!
@Trufa cool, thanks for the offer! I'll contact you if my plans don't work out, and start searching in that field again.
@Trufa the Lanzarote one is only a half-serious one - I was on holiday there for three weeks, and liked it a lot. I'm sure it's a different thing to live there on a permanent basis, you know how it is. I'm completely serious about the US though - if there is any chance, I will take it
I have a hypothetical question that I am looking for serious answers and/or discussion about. My email is gfosco AT gmail. The question:: If you were an evil mastermind (or a good one i suppose,) with control of a MASSIVE cloud computing platform.... What kind of stuff would you do? From that, I think we can imagine tools and processes for achieving many things.
The only reason I ever star a message in GMail is by accident.
@jcolebrand I think I just found my first Node.JS project... a cross-platform command & control client for zombie virtual machines. essentially, malware. :)
lol.... it's going to be baked into the image. This will be for all legitimate purposes. It's not really malware if you create it and use it on your own equipment. )
I didn't mean to go for that. I'm tired so I must've typed back out of habit.
Looks like this is why Apple delayed the iPhone 5, among other things. Steve must've known he was considering this possibility and a new iPhone after his resignation would probably help the "post-Steve" image of Apple.
