@Derpy well I am odd. :)
@TravisJ yummy! 😋
@JourneymanGeek about layoffs?
@ShadowWizard ............
he forgot he had a bot running.
yep. Right.
that would be like me wondering why my account had just started giving out random cupcakes (don't try, the bot is no longer active)
I seem to remember someone of interest being rather publicly outed at Stack Overflow once...
They were some sort of pirate
Pirating answers?
@Derpy cupcake pls?
but I only played on NA server once
08:13
though I heard the EU server and its management was a lot worse than the NA one
@SomewhatMemorableName There was the whole controversy with them allowing unsanitized javascript in a chat message and the game client having a RCE flaw with that
@Magisch ^ see above picture, you are a little late. About 3 years late :P
@TravisJ only by name
DPR of silk road infame had and used a so account
@Magisch huh, first time I heard about that... dunno if it was like that when I played on NA. But yeah, the game client is so old that it's buggier on more modern computer...
08:18
@JourneymanGeek Yup, wasn't very smart to use his real server addresses there.
@SomewhatMemorableName do you prefer Diablo 3? The one that had online item auctions with real money exchanged... that you could time out and win by changing the date&time on your LOCAL machine?
@Derpy d3 became obsolete when path of exile came out, anyways
Fortunately I haven't played Diablo 3? 🤔
I liked d3, the real money ah practically paid you to play.
and no real money for me
08:26
I think I made like $800 until they closed it
@TravisJ didn't want to play online in the first place.
I like the competition of online games :)
I'm still full of salt over d3 being such a downgrade from d2
@Magisch don't worry. D4 is officially in the works, ready to delude you again.
I think yes and no. D2 was a lot of success, but the current form of d3, with the grifts, kanai's cube, and seasons, is pretty competitive I think
08:30
@Derpy nah, I have path of exile now
that'll serve for the next 5000 hours :p
I still have a character I play from time to time on my xbox. I am not allowed to play pc games anymore. Not really allowed to play xbox much either, it is packed up in the garage at the moment.
@TravisJ The complexity and build diversity is 100% gone
@Magisch considering that D4 is also rumored to be a mmorpg.... probably for the better.
There isn't much build diversity by character in d3, its true.
And there is no ceiling to how much you want to stack dps - so that's all it becomes about, more dps. That and the unique design make the game extremely formulaic
every class has maybe 2 viable builds and most of these are based on lining up every single ridiculous modifier to maybe do decent damage for 5s every minute
08:31
Definitely a lot of formula tinkering going on, fps pairing and whatnot
for some reason I never got into POE
aaaannddd
and D3 was meh
The DH build I use will put out constant damage
no more torchlight sequels :(
poe doesn't have a learning curve so much as a learning skyscraper
I like the simplicity of titanfall
Everyone get's the same thing, and you go hash it out in a small city-styled map.
08:33
POE isn't as bad as some games
I sadly seem to do mostly FPSes these days
oh, don't worry. No D3 for me. To be fair, currently I was planning to get a copy of.....

Darkest Dungeon. Yep, I know, I am going to regret that.
looking forward to the new wolfenstein
@JourneymanGeek eh, the learning curve is extremely steep
I have 470 hours in it and still feel like a complete noob
@Magisch bunch of my friends are into 4x games...
Waiting for Borderlands 3...
08:34
the tech tree drives me nuts
I just want to go kill things ;p
and Crash Bandicoot Trilogy on PC~
got a friend who's fun in co-op
though I think nothing can top him playing SR3
A friend of mine enjoyed playing through Darkest Dungeon.
I guess some people are more into playing a little bit of a lot of games. I kind of get more into playing a lot of just a few games.
heh
I have a backlog
but not been in a mood for media lately ._.
I like being on the top of the food chain :P giant.gfycat.com/FinishedDeliciousElkhound.mp4
08:37
... I don't want to see my list of games on my Steam ;_;
@TravisJ oh, well, consider that I also play Disgaea.And Etrian Odyssey
> FinishedDeliciousElkhound.mp4
0_0
oh
lol I didn't come up with the name
games, TV shows...
@Derpy Hm, a lot of rpgs? Those look like fun, never heard of them though. One kind of looks like FF Tactics (which was an awesome game)
@TravisJ Disagea....? Basically FF Tactics.... Munchin version.
just... don't throw those Prinnies
there is something enticing about turn based games
Sid Meier once told me "never underestimate the value of pure joy"
To be fair.....
unless your opponent decides to become a major PITA and always use up his allotted time per turn to the fullest extent.
08:42
playing Civ multiplayer in midnight???
@JohnDvorak Yeah, that's no fun. Doesn't always happen though.
@SomewhatMemorableName I don't think I've played Civ in like a decade
Based on Bartle, I probably fall in the low right quadrant
Is there a name for the social law stating "there have always been dicks in the society"?
Last Civ series I had: Civilization 2 ...
and some of my friends could fall asleep while playing games
08:45
Ooh, I've played Civ3. Enjoyed watching my throne room grow.
Single player only.
@Derpy I try to be in the top right of that.
Yeah, I missed those Throne Room feature
@JohnDvorak Civ3 was a lot of fun, the throne room was pretty epic
user310756
A documentary on Australian culture a must watch for any Aussie philes
"Multi-player appeal to the Achiever"... guilty.
08:48
Stack Exchange the Game
looks like on the "Killers" quadrant...
I guess to some degree that played out at Stack Exchange. Kind of different though, since you are getting rewarded for helping people, arguably something that would be done anyway.
Anyways, I have to depart now. Barber -> lunch -> change clothes -> job interview.
@JohnDvorak oooh, good luck on the interview!
I think SE has a few of each
I know people who are rep focused (Achievers) and would do anything for ot
some folk are into the 'culture' of their sites (explorers)
and I'd argue many mods are socialisers
We don't really want killers ;)
09:02
I try to get a decent amount of rep, but avoid burning out. For a long time I averaged 1k per month as a cap.
Still pretty close. 6 years, 7 months, 61k.
I also kept a 10k per year cap
Answering can require quite a bit of time.
I'm kinda odd
I'm not burnt out on SU as a community
but I answer less stuff than I used to
To increase the daily rep cap, please become a Stack Exchange Premium Member...
@πάνταῥεῖ enjoy! Being a remote worker, I don't have any of those perks, but OTOH, I have no traffic jams whatsoever driving to the office daily...
> Downvote! No comment! Be glad I even wasted my time to downvote you, ye loser!
Wait, weren't we perfectly fine with those?
I believe you will find those who "fight spam"
But the combative post actions, I really feel like that has gotten better since the blog post. Not sure if that is how other people feel, but that is what I have been noticing.
09:16
On the short term, ya.
It's either people are more mindful, scared or both
Yeah, well mindful would be good. Scared would be a tinder box though, which is possible. Hopefully no one doubles down on the message. I think we are in a good place at the moment.
I was having a similar conversation elsewhere
I personally think that site (and chat) culture is a continuous process
While something like the summer of love can change things for a little, I'm not a fan of the occasional big push.
yep, all is fine in Equality Town, all is fine....
So... With the inclusiveness push... I'm more on the 'everyone should feel at home' boat. If someone is being toxic, it dosen't matter who it is to. It is unacceptable.
Totally agree. However, the inclusiveness push managed to effect the grey area that is effectively impossible to moderate directly. I think that is where it had the most impact.
09:25
I don't disagree with the intent
I'm in sort of the same boat
If someone is being unhelpful and toxic that behavior needs to be corrected - it's just ... it feels like we run risk of misclassifying well intentioned housekeeping with gatekeeping
But rather that if we're needing to make the grand guesture every so often... It means we're missing stuff
Some stuff isn't really subject to moderation. Some users really did tone down their own behavior voluntarily.
some also became a little more aware of their tone
not previously ill intentioned but a "can't see the forest for all the trees" kind of thing that comes with routine
09:30
yep, and we won a free pinata of drama (which, to be fair, probably has also something to do with the wonderful way the ToS thing was handled...)
Anonymized users! Lost users! Fun! Happiness!
Ugh drama
I didn't really understand the anonymized users thing. I mean, to each their own, I just didn't really get it.
Names are pretty anonymized anyway #JourneymanGeek :P
Gonna rename to CorrectHorseBatteryStaple
The TOS thing, in my opinion kinds of got blown up a fair bit worse than expected
mine was unrelated
@TravisJ geek. :p
And my friends call me geek
09:33
heh, total Freudian slip, I blame the hat on the dog head
hopefully it is a term of endearment
@TravisJ people tend to attribute to laws whatever they need it to be.
...I seem to have made some internet friends worried by writing something dark. o_o
@JourneymanGeek when you receive a mail that tells you your opt out request has been processed correctly and the next day some staff member somehow implies in a comment that said request could hold no legal value.... yep, people tend to blow things up a little.
@JourneymanGeek Unacceptable maybe, but are you in a position to fire Jay?
09:48
Darn, Heavy Rain.
Well..... Literally no one you are talking to is a lawyer
@MartinJames hm. I was thinking more in terms of politely letting folk some things are unacceptable
Meh, what do lawyers or judges know about the interwebs anyway.
I have a lawyer, he has no clue about ToS stuff.
Not to mention this is in a different jurisdiction from where most of SE's staff is
And folks often use super emotive language with stuff like this
sorry, lost you
@TravisJ true. And that's a lot if the problem
@Derpy err. I got confused my bad
I mean none of SE's cms are lawyers.
09:54
meh
where I live arbitration mandates are illegal anyways so ... water under the bridge
And that stuff gets confusing fast
I opted out anyways just for convenience and peace of mind but still
Need sleep. Ugh, every day I seem to be needing sleep. Is this happening to anyone else? The horror. So much time wasted being motionless accomplishing nothing.
@TravisJ beat the system: keep working while sleeping
I got the solution to a database design issue in a dream yesterday
(I studied some law as a cyber security and management major)
09:56
Will try. I did once dream up a graphics design that I still use. It was in a display panel on some sort of space ship thing.
I dont even have a degree but I got voluntold to be DPO
Although, more often than not sleep is full of too much random to be useful to anyone except a fiction writer.
@Magisch Ten Million Fluttershys

Q: What are the plans if the EU link tax gets through?

RensvWalstijnWhat is the EU link tax? Here is an explanation from tom's HARDWARE: EU Expected To Pass Censorship Machines, Link Tax On June 20 Link Tax (Article 11) The “link tax” proposal in Article 11 of the copyright reform directive is another idea that’s not just seemingly bad, but i...

YAY! NEW FUN!
Please, can a passerby meteor just hit us and put an end to our "intelligence"?
will they someday understand that these kind of regulations are a little insane?
Well, simpler solution is to block EU again?
10:11
I somehow still prefer the meteor one....
Probably not a meteor. A global flood is also out of the picture after the last attempt (also, humans now have boats). Perhaps a good ole Kessler cascade might cause us some well-deserved headaches...
🇪🇺☄
(fails on Chrome...)
But hey, at least we use SI
I am considering migrating to Swaziland, though, if EU messes up so hard they break the Internet.
But then again, I'd like to end up where I am now geographically when God decides to nuke Earth's governments, and not have to wait until transportation is available again. Family and such.
10:32
This seems like something straight out of LifeHacks
Or Alton brown, only he doesn't like single use tools
even better:
The fasted DVD Rewinder!
Also probably the only one.
@Derpy Idiots in suits think they can legislate technology into existance by fiat
"We will just require you to be 100% sure none of this is copyright infringement before you allow it to be uploaded"
"Well how could we possibly do that, you need a lawyer for single cases sometimes because copyright law is a mess" "Idk figure it out you're liable if you don't lol"
11:03
I shudder to think what would happen with Scifi.SE and Literature.SE.
Half the entire Harry Potter series is probably reproduced on there by now.
11:17
> Fahrenheit 2732 – the temperature at which hard disks glass substrate catches fire, and melts...
I think it should be pretty easy to get the reference.
12:08
@ShadowWizard I just had a dream about that, funny

1 hour later…
13:12
@Cilan indeed! You seem to have... Grew up since those times... So how are you? Got a job? Still in touch with @Doorknob?
13:52
@ShadowWizard I'm 17 my boy
But yes I should have a job but no am not getting
Doorknob goes to a different school but I still talk to him
14:16
@ShadowWizard Congratulation! Now that he actually replied, all the users in the room will need to fill a data retention plan to be GDPR compliant!.
14:46
HAMMER... uh, never mind...

in Shadow's Den, May 6 '15 at 14:55, by SPArchaeologist
@SweetieBot Could you remind ShadowWizard he should watch MLP:FIM?
15:01
trust me, both @ShadowWizard and Droid know there are bot features far more annoying than HAMMERTIME.
MILLERTIME?
Go forth my army! Stop this meme now!
Yep, an army of Storm Troopers muffins for a Muffin. How appropriate.
@Derpy lol
@Derpy heh, one nearly got ours banned
I missed my opportunity to name myself "Huggable Cactus" to go with the new profile pic
15:16
alas
You know your ava has made me consider actually getting a dog when I move
He has that effect on people
I'm firmly a cat person but I could go for a dog like yours
@Magisch So missed opportunities! So sad! Such losses!
15:19
@Magisch he's the best little grumpy little senior citizen
I, for one, still think @JourneymanGeek should switch his avatar to Doge
I saw this on imgur and had to think of your dog journey: i.imgur.com/UTObI0i.gifv
@Derpy I'm probably keeping ash as my ava until he permanantly retires
And I was like I want that puppy
hah
mini schnauzer crosses are the best ;)
15:21
what a marvel we humans have wrought to get such nice companion animals
most dogs and cats are really loving too
lol
Man adopted dogs, cats adopted man
the cats at work are kinda cute
cats are still really loving usually
very skittish but one was basically peeking out from behind a staircase at me
@JourneymanGeek and dwarf.
they just have different ways of expressing it
but yeah cats basically domesticated themselves by partaking in the mouse buffet and making themselves useful
15:25
There's some dogs that are very independent
my aunt has golden retrievers they're so loving
There's a pair of shibas here. One is aloof, the other a cuddle bug
15:44
@Derpy Muffins? They look like marshmallows.
shots fired
They're storm troopers. They can't hit anything.

Weres teh RoundUp?
it's a RoundUp-Ready rene
Genetically-modified to withstand the harshest environments
Accept no imitations

@Shog9 You do realize that the patent for Roundup Ready soybeans expired in 2014?

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog doesn't matter
they'll send a team of lawyers
who'll surround you, menacingly
and you'll say, "patents expired!", mournfully
and they'll break your knees
</everythingiknowaboutmonsantoilearnedontwitter>
Same lawyers did the SE ToS? It will explain a lot. I assume Tim needs his knees ...
All you need to know about Monsanto is they patented the gene sequence of their seeds so you can't use them or any of their offspring ever unless you pay the patent/licensing fee
