Hehe! I'll be up with powers in 9hrs at SO again :-)
At our daily standup in GotoMeeting I've used my nick and the guys were pretty surpriseed.
I've explained them that my SO account will be unblocked tomorrow, and they started to be concerned _how nicely_ I would achieve them after all.
I calmed them and promised that I'm a mainly nice and helpful person, unless someone is going to overshoot my nerves.
I still believe that that suspension was kinda undeserved. I'll tell people how they're going wrong in using SO or SE in a way more mystic manner instead of being straight (or not will tell

@ShadowWizard coz little point rage in the tavern

3:00 PM
@Telkitty To be fair, I use that phrasing all the time: meta.stackoverflow.com/a/299198/19679 , well before moderator messages were publicly anonymized. I know who issued this, but I don't make a point of publicly calling out moderators. In the limited time that anonymized moderator messages have been live, I've seen a marked change in the kinds of responses we're getting.
People are less likely to issue personal insults and threats when they get a moderator message from "Stack Overflow Moderator Team" than from "Brad Larson, Stack Overflow moderator". See how people react to a question being closed by votes from five community members vs. one moderator.

@Walt feel free do suggest such feature request... great way to lose nice amount of rep.... ;)

3:20 PM
@BradLarson if you're going to miss such responses let me know. I'm happy to rage at you on request...

Meanwhile, I DV'd because I don't want those notifications. If a moderator disagrees with my flag, that only means they are wrong.

You're entitled to your opinion :)
But wouldn't you want to read a custom response to a flag if a mod took the time to write you one?

user315433
6:12 PM

@Telkitty Interesting to see the people at the C++ Lounge talking about me, and wondering what happened. Well, what actually happened were many, many rude / unconstructive flags placed at comments of mine, where I responded to _unconstructive_ (or even _abusive_) questions.
But well, that's just my POV. Mods seem to have better things to do than handling all these flags all day long.

@Walt Very interesting. Maybe it's time for me to try a new icon?
Also the last graph in the article was interesting, if unrelated to the main purpose of the study

@BhargavRao thanks! For the sake of the suggested edits god, can you please ban this user from suggesting more edits?
Surely this single rejection won't deter him.

7:19 PM
@ShadowWizard Sure, if you give me more instances where they have erred, I'll certainly ban them and send them a message.

@Shadow Well, I just have begun a new job. Gotta learn Delphi fast, to enter at a same high level entry as I was doing with c++ or c. So I need some extra time now anyways.

@ShadowWizard we have a whole room that can deal with those, remember ...

Backtick troll like this won't stop by himself. :/
The sad part is that many users (including those trolls of course) see this as legit formatting option, to "highlight" some key words.

OK, thanks, I'll take care.

@πάνταῥεῖ whoa.... Delphi... I started programming back at 2000 with Delphi 3, which was old already back then. Took some already existing projects and had to make changes. For some reason Delphi always felt like "toy language" to me, not real programming.
Why new job? @πάνταῥεῖ
(i.e. you left the previous job on your own to seek better job, or was, well, fired?)
Would suck to both be fired from work and be kicked from SO in the same time... o_o
Like being kicked both in virtual world and real world.

@rene hehe, wonder how.... :D
BTW @rene did you fix @Kenny's vomit?

Embarcadero did many things to improve it far over a _toy language_ though. At least mostly the same memory management and layout capabilities like c++ and c.
What should you do with an old (but successful) delphi code base? Throw it all away, go inside the house and rewrite everything within the next 6-8 years?

Anyway, @πάνταῥεῖ if you need help with the basic Pascal syntax guess I can still help, probably everything else is now very different. :)

@ShadowWizard I didn't work on that yet

7:35 PM
@ShadowWizard Because I couldn't get warm with the indian management / owner at my last job. Big culture clash.

@πάνταῥεῖ well, it wasn't that old back then, we did support it for 6-8 years, I suspect these days couple of the clients are still using the old products, but we no longer support them.

@ShadowWizard That's what I was learning at school ~30yrs ago ;-)

@rene poor @Kenny... :(

@ShadowWizard Not to support them would screw up the whole business made. And they make good business.

@πάνταῥεῖ heh.... yeah... guess this happens. How long you worked in the previous job?
@πάνταῥεῖ me too! :D

7:37 PM
@ShadowWizard 3 month :-D

@πάνταῥεῖ oh, lol.... bit more than @JourneymanGeek no? And before that?

@ShadowWizard 9 years, of stable and solid work delivered.

@πάνταῥεῖ but isn't the price of upgrading to new code insane?
@πάνταῥεῖ whoa... so what happened to that ex-ex-job?

@ShadowWizard The old company owner died

@πάνταῥεῖ no successor? company just closed?

7:41 PM
@ShadowWizard His son inherited the company, but a bunch of idiots all around him, and I dunno if he's one of them too :-P

@Walt lol, I know this person IRL. He's.... funny. :D

@ShadowWizard Well, there are always strategies, you can apply piece wise: laputan.org/mud
All in all what I heard from my new (old) colleagues (I've been working with most of them 20 years ago already), it sounds we should find a migration path for .NET, C# interop maybe.
I'm implanted at the core services team anyways.

@πάνταῥεῖ oh, so you actually migrate the existing code? When my company upgraded a project, we just did it all from scratch. Can't really import C++ to node.js I guess.

Also a (better?) different RDBMS than ADS should be considered. Fairly big tasks.

status-going-to-wash-dishes

7:48 PM
@shadow "so you actually migrate the existing code?" Not yet. As mentioned we have to balance out the appropriate strategies 1st, I think.
@ShadowWizard Wife's called you?

@Bart You have probably heard of it, but you should check this thing out: benchmarkdotnet.org

@ShadowWizard My doctor told me a wise saying: "The 1st generation builds the base, the 2nd generation extends it, the 3rd generation is too weak and selfish and just destroys all the goods". Exceptions prove the rule as always.

@jadarnel27 slightly tricky within the whole Unity3D ecosystem, but absolutely helpful for some other stuff. So thanks :)
Stupid thing is that I made the exact same mistake before on other code, and we're actively preloading some assemblies there, but it somehow escaped me on our Unity code today. I was happy for about 15 minutes ...

Q: Meet Team DAG! (Developer Affinity & Growth)

Tim PostNot quite dang. Not quite unless you see them at play in their native habitats which few will ever travel far enough to do. Sometimes, you really should pay attention to the folks moving around behind the curtains. We'd like to take a moment to introduce you to a very special product team at Sta...

Team Direct Acyclic Graph? Ah no ...

@Bart Ah, yes that makes sense. I guess you'd have to go out of your way to isolate whatever code you want to do performance testing on into it's own component. And even then, I imagine you want to test how it performs within the Unity framework code that calls it ("Update," etc).
It really only works well for "micro benchmarks" I suppose.

user315433
"Affinity Team" sounds a little like "Ministry of Love".

Yeah, and then there is either their old Mono (max .net 3.5) or their magical IL2CPP compilation ... it ain't trivial. But for some of the stuff we're doing I can at least isolate it.

8:32 PM
@Bart Oh wow, I didn't know about those two limitations of Unity3D. I have only worked with it a few times, following little demo tutorials.

Let's just say there is a lot of technical debt in what they currently have. There is some cool stuff in the pipeline though (went to their developer conference last week). But yeah, for decent perf, especially on mobile, you have to jump through quite some hoops.

user315433
Coincidentally, gateoverflow.in also has a quality project of sorts.

@Bart Nice, I bet that was a fun conference.

It was very interesting. Learned some cool stuff. Had some decent talks with some of their developers. Worth it. And the whole event was catered :D

Seriously though, those results are per-user.
For me this is what I got:
wait, is this Google at all? lol. yes, but different design... what's going on?

@ShadowWizard Chrome address bar search vs. Google search page search
I guess we should be gratified that there are no safe-cracking suggestions
though the number of "safe mode" results upon splitting "in to" is depressing

@Shog9 heh, thanks. How you explain the different results though?
Based on past searches? Location?
Anyway, @Walt here is how to identify DAG team members:
Can't be faked ^

user315433
Per-user, yes ... but I don't recall ever traveling to Tijuana while pregnant.

user315433
10:26 PM
It's all just a bunch of matrix multiplication, anyway

@Walt oh, turns out it's the same for me when searching via address bar, I just never did it before. Probably taking results from different cache.
I wonder how much tera bytes is Google Cache.
@M.A.R. shouldn't you be sleeping?? It's late night for you!

Firefox's search box renders the same suggestions as Chrome's address bar, but also includes a few more. Safe-cracking is #6 in the list.

@M.A.R. nah, if anything reviewing is like changing diapers.

@Shog9 so it's kind of expected to give same results, no? ;)

@ShadowWizard the fact that it gives more results is the interesting bit there

Apparently, not getting into a taxi in Tijuana is also dangerous. Can't win.

@Shog9 oh... maybe FF tweak the results a bit

Talking about taxi, a taxi driver here in Israel charged tourists 1200 NIS instead of 120 for driving from airport to Tel Aviv. Just added a zero "by mistake".

@Walt is Man Friends some kinda Manfred?
@ShadowWizard have any drivers forgotten to add a zero by mistake?

1400, not 1200 oh well
Lucky for them, it was featured in a popular TV show, so they got big compensation.
I bet many others never find out, or never dare to complain, or never get anything back if complaning. :/
