If Shakespeare wrote a play about Visual Basic, would it be a tragedy or a comedy?

Sometimes I want to pet or hug the chicken, so when she's around, I will squatting down and put my hands out. Sometimes she squat down or come closer and accept my advances. Sometimes she runs away, when I chase after her, she flight all across the backyard not wanting me to catch her. If I insist on pet or hug her despite the fact she's running away from me in fear, this indicates of some sorts of harassment from me towards my hen.

user202362
Although this is just between me & my hen. I am not sure my pet chicken will come close to a stranger.

One of the more useless bounties I've ever seen: meta.stackexchange.com/questions/285889/…
Tim didn't reply to any comment for almost a year. No progress whatsoever. Why @gnat thinks a bounty will help??
Just one of the grand plans that like most others is buried deep in their TODO list.
</rant-and-out>

Back in their mind they want to revisit that so much but in reality it is not going to happen in 6 to 8 ages. Keep a low profile is a strategy.

@rene yeah... the problem is they come with an awesome plan, but then let it sit there while more urgent things arise. And there is endless stream of those "urgent things".
Maybe when SE will expand and hire 1000 employees it will help push those "non urgent" plans ahead.

9:24 AM
I don't think that will help, it will only generate more great ideas so you'll need 2000 devs to get all those implemented. It is like adding more roads to conquer traffic jams. It attracts more cars ...

9:37 AM
hehe, true. In Israel we just added brand new road to Jerusalem not long ago, they promised it will shorten the time to arrive in like 50% and guess what? It just made things worse. lol
Something like $1B wasted for nothing.

9:50 AM
@ShadowWizard well, Rotterdam is known for its traffic jams on the ring. To make things worse they are going to close the Maastunnel for two years, adding at least 30,000 extra cars per day on the other roads ...

@rene whoa... sounds bad. Are you affected as well?

@ShadowWizard nope, only if I need be in the center of the city and that is also doable with public transport

@ShadowWizard one of the more ungrammatical sentences I've ever seen

throwing grammatical sentence on @M.A.R.
@rene so public transport is not affected? (i.e. arriving on time?)

10:14 AM
@ShadowWizard maybe the bus will have issues but Rotterdam has a great metro network, using their own tunnels.

@rene cool... that's something we will never have here. :(
There are plans, but the cost is just insane.

there are plenty of options for public transport, rail, tram, bus, boats.

@rene we have rail, tram, and bus, just no metro with tunnels which is the ideal way...

10:32 AM
@rene what about Santa's deeds?

@ShadowWizard I just got some meta poo to burn from recent answer on NN...

^^^ after we are done with Net Neutrality, is there any chance to do something about this old forgotten initiative?

@gnat hehe, see you really admire your meta rep... ;)
Don't you want to reach 10k so you can see deleted posts and delete questions by yourself? @gnat
BTW how you noticed my message? You were not pingable...

@ShadowWizard 30k repz I spen on bounties at MSE kinda answer your question - I am not interested in that. As for noticing your message I just occasionally passed by tavern and noticed my name in red

10:43 AM
@gnat oh, so no fancy tool to auto detect when someone mentions you. Fair enough! :)

@gnat burning poo? So that's what this smell is?
I thought it was coming from @Shadow's den

11:03 AM
@M.A.R. no, only pee there. And it doesn't smell!
:D

@M.A.R. hmm this smell feels pretty net neutral to me

2:02 PM
@ShadowWizard - I'm trying to have a new discussion on the problem.

@Mithrandir as I said, I don't think that just because the original discussion is old we need new discussion.
If I'm wrong, CM/dev can easily reopen it anyway and post official answer.

Talking to Pops

(since you don't look for unofficial response, it's not relevant for ordinary users including moderators.)

2:15 PM
Also, @Shadow, a discussion about what is okay in profiles and when it's okay to nuke a user are... not the same.

@Mithrandir not sure... if it's OK to post self promotion in profile, it means the account should not be deleted, aka "innocent until proven guilty"

Like I said, we've been discussing this for hours in the Teacher's Lounge.

@Disney long years passed... I was still meta n00b back then. ;)

Apparently Jeff also agreed (see accepted answer), but that was long ago

2:26 PM
@Mithrandir so how come you didn't get official response there? CM's are not part of that room?
(i.e. only moderators?)

They aren't always there, no. And yes, Pops was there. But it's always good to have a meta post that we can refer to. (And the discussion basically ended with we need a meta.)

hmm... well let Pops (or other CM) decide what to do. And I still think it's better to have it all in one place, not scattered among different discussions.

It's been reopened now, anyway.

oh well :)

Hey @Oded how are you? do you remember the superuser seo video? do you have a link handy?

0_0
There was a superuser SEO video?

well someone contacted us with a video on how to improve superuser's SEO. it was genuinely hilarious

user315433

^ that

3:06 PM
watching now...

@Sklivvz ah, I see you were sorted by the Tavern crowd :)
I am still working on getting our phone number up there.

You need to remind Nick to renew the domain name for more than a couple of years. Google looks at that to determine how long you will stay in business.

user315433
But... how long is SO going to stay in business, anyway?

Until the domain expires I guess?

3:13 PM
Yeah, Google looks at that to take you seriously.
(according to our SEO expert above)

I'll see if GoDaddy has any deals.

user315433
An interesting example. Were the reviewers correct to reject?

user315433
To me it looks like editing in another answer, so I'd reject too.

user315433
But the OP is correct in that it improves the post.

user315433
So... is there a way to reconcile this?

user315433
A special category of suggested edits that can be approved/rejected only by the author of the post?

user315433
4:27 PM

user315433
Or should the reviewers simply trust that the editor is correct about the new location of dot-file? It's not the kind of stuff that someone would make up for fun.

user315433
Anyway, we have a new blog post with familiar title Why i hate stack overflow [sic]

It boils down to "I hate them because they want me to make an effort".

user315433
Not fleshed out enough. 1 and 1/2 stars at most.

user315433
Can you believe there is no Unicode character "half-filled star"?

4:35 PM
Just imagine the same article only about architecture or law or medicine.

"and they don’t accept that new programmers want everything soon and easy, without even trying to do things" ... and that's a problem?

Q: The problem with extrinsic motivation

Jon EricsonTL;DR: Stack Exchange favors standard, fast, and complete answers at the expense of novel, creative, and excellent answers. This bias results directly from reputation ratings, badges and other extrinsic motivations, which form the core of the system and can not be removed. Therefor, the quality o...

@Oded Why not deemphasize reputation? Right now it’s everywhere and you get notifications when it changes, which seems kind of excessive.

Heh, I should probably write an article "Why i hate stack overflow haters" on there

@bjb568 it is what made SO the success it is. Perhaps at higher rep levels it would make sense.

and post it on meta... and meta-effect... ka-ching
@Walt need another "Authors have to pay when people like you downvote their post."

4:58 PM
I would suggest you go discuss that here: expertflow.wordpress.com The person who authors that blog (but really doesn't author that blog, but actually does) would love to discuss with you.

user315433
Is that like a clearinghouse of "hate SO" posts?

I read Joe Blow's name. I doubt myself now.
Though, the writer should have activated ClearType >_<

This should be an edit instead of another answer, but you could not edit because you have two accounts now. Please use the contact us form to request account merge. — Walt 22 secs ago

user315433
I tend to say things like this, but would the merge happen if both accounts are unregistered?

user315433
Or should it be "register this account first, then request the merge"?

6:32 PM
@Oded It seems to favor quantity over quality, so at this stage it's less important to have it.

Of course, when choosing 3 out of 4 and seeing that one of 4 hasn't done anything mod-related... there isn't really a choice.
