ugh. I suck at cover letters
Everyone is. Best make yours interesting to read.
lol. Its a bit of an odd case, since I don't actually have a job ad or a actual role mentioned
I know a guy who knows a guy....
> I was born in the howling wastelands and raised by the feral beasts doomed to scour that land.
I feel this has prepared me well for the open position in your organization.
Best regards,
Sent, its a bit to the point, but I think part of the pitch's already been made.
@Shog9 If I ever apply to you guys, I am sure I will include that in my cover letter in some manner.
12:11 AM
Though, its "I was brought up by feral engineers, and scavenged the carcasses of dead PCs to survive in the wild wastelands of urban singapore"
(this is even vaguely true)
Alas, singaporeans typically lack a sense of humour. ;p
anyway, is there a list of SE sites which have graduated, but not yet complete their graduation process? (e.g. Anime & Manga is already graduated, but not yet received site design, and the rep threshold is still beta site's)
If you look at this list and ignore the custom icons, that will be it.
Quant, Mechanics, Law, Philosophy, Codegolf, Anime.
Quite a lot...

Still there... The last time a site design went live: October 5, 2016. More than 6 months ago... That was Signal Processing.
12:57 AM
Cross Validated reached 100K questions recently (most are unanswered and/or garbage, but that's another story). Emacs is the latest site to reach 10K questions. And it looks like Latin Language is the latest to reach 1K.

@Feeds thanks for the one-box!
That's a big box.
why bother bird watching when you can buy some pet chickens?
Then watch the Hawks up close when the swoop down and attack the chickens?
One of my favourite activity is watching hawks/eagles trapped in chicken coops
4:15 AM
that's also "bird watching", literally.

@SmokeDetector !?
6:44 AM
@JourneymanGeek matrix?? Nope. This one:
Amdocs is a multinational corporation headquartered in Chesterfield, Missouri, with support and development centers located worldwide. The company specializes in software and services for communications, media and financial services providers and digital enterprises. Its offerings include business support systems (BSS), operational support systems (OSS), open network solutions, Internet of Things, big data analytics and entertainment and media solutions. The company has a customer base of over 350 customers in more than 85 countries. Amdocs went public in 1998 and its ordinary shares are listed...
They grew and changed logo since I was there, lol
7:07 AM
Yeah, they're working on a chat system that's actually pretty interesting...
lol. Where's a RO when you need one ._.
@JourneymanGeek make me a RO then :D
@Stijn I can't ;p
I can't even pull off the trick I did the last time ;p
RO for eastern-hemisphere timezone? Good idea~
@JourneymanGeek why?
@ShadowWizard that SD post before the last is a bit....
7:15 AM
> Most of the current core contributors to Matrix work at Amdocs, who have kindly given us permission to work on Matrix as an independent non-profit initiative.
My project was called Wigloo
@JourneymanGeek oh the user name? heh
@ShadowWizard I have a rediculously good memory for text a lot of the time ;p
and yeah, its a pretty neat project
@JourneymanGeek worked on that for about a full year. SharePoint.
7:39 AM
Oh, matrix. Never heard of this wigloo thing ;p
Are tags internationalized on stack exchange? (translated for different languages) or a different language would have a different tag
@caub tags are the same for everyone. Localised versions of Stack Overflow do have some tags in their own language I assume, but those are not coupled to the main SO site in any way.
ah right, it would be a different site, ok
@ShadowWizard hiisssssssssssss
7:55 AM
ughhhh, I'm looking for a new project in a couple weeks, just received a job description of a soccer site that looks nice, but all their code is VB.NET :(
@Derpy hmm? You became a snake?
@ShadowWizard standard "You said Sharepoint" reaction.
race doesn't matter, work with SP long enough and you will start hissing like a snake/angry cat every time someone mentions it.
@caub its worth assuming tags are in english, unless the site itself is not in english. Or that tags are not localised at all, but are specific to the site ;p
@Derpy two years are not long enough?
8:21 AM
@ShadowWizard User or developer?
@Derpy developer
@ShadowWizard very strange. Either it wasn't the real SharePoint but only a poor knockoff lacking all the sanity-removal features or you have some weird immunity.
I have dispatched a team to escort you to a medical research factory for some analysis. You will recognize them.
Just look for the 14 year old girl with red hair and shirt. She is going the same route.
Please don't mind her poor jokes about some infection going on and weird "runners" or such....
There should be no risk. Probably.
@Derpy what's that a reference to ._.
@Derpy no worry. I pulled many hairs off my head back then. Most common sentence we all said daily was "SharePoint is crap".
@JourneymanGeek Mlp, obviously. Wasn't that clear?
8:33 AM
For a moment I thought it was ringo
(the title on the picture should be your clue for the real answer)
(WhatWhat amam I doing?
MyMy phphone ddied agagain
THERE'S your problem!
8:38 AM
oddly enough, while obviously The Last of Us is far less "family friendly" than MLP - after all it tells the story of some survivor in a "zombie apocalypse" scenario, the picture still is more "appropriate" than many other bad ponyfication crossovers
at least, it makes some sense to replace Joel and Ellie with Scoot and Dashie
8:49 AM
@balpha - is it normal that after a merge of two accounts both only including one site I received the association bonus on BOTH the sites?
hmm no
got a link?
yep. Give me a sec.
I believe that the bonus was meant to be awarded ONLY on the security site, but the merge somehow triggered it on both sites.
oh I misunderstood you then
no that's fine
once you cross 200 on one site, you get 100 on all your sites if I recall correctly
Always assumed it was
> once you cross 200 on one site, you get 100 on all the other sites
then I'm not sure what the question is
8:55 AM
@Derpy nope, the first site to reach 200 also get 100
-- 2013-10-07 rep 0     = 198
-- bonuses   (100)
16 19244536 (2)
 3  19246956 (-1)
 2  19251624 (10)
 1  19251624 (15)
2  19251624 (10)
-- 2013-10-08 rep +136  = 334
(from my SO rep audit, the first site I joined)
^ see Stijn above. I didn't think the original site got the bonus too. Only the other ones. So I assumed something went wrong in the merge
glad to know I was wrong
I was wrong, can confirm what @Elephant says
> If you are an experienced Stack Exchange network user with 200 or more reputation on at least one site, you will receive a starting +100 reputation bonus to get you past basic new user restrictions. This will happen automatically on all current Stack Exchange sites where you have an account, and on any other Stack Exchange sites at the time you log in.
(emph mine)
@balpha I see. Thanks.
9:25 AM
@Derpy so @SPA is no more? Or did you merge a third account?
@ShadowWizard I posted a question on security from an unauthenticated user. Wanted to give some more details so I associated it to Derpy.
10:00 AM
@Derpy oh, I see. You mean unregistered. :)
10:56 AM
Y U Ping
I saw OP deleted and wanted to undelete so called for help, OP undeleted shortly after. :)
I'm sure he felt pressured by that ping
@Bart of course!
heh poor guy... tried to contact in chat, he'll probably not show up though.
At this point, feature requests for SO are pretty difficult anyway. Almost everything will have been suggested multiple times before.
11:18 AM
especially fundamental parts of how the network workds
12:00 PM
@Bart true. And you most likely already said that before. ;)
@ShadowWizard at this point, a bot could replay the transcripts from the start, and nobody would notice

No idea who Evan is, but bet he's really happy now. ^
@Shog maybe add such a feature to SE Help Center? ;)
lol @ avatar
I mean... come on...
Is that The Evan Carroll?
The infamous troll
@ShadowWizard The US will definitely consider not intervening in Syria because he wrote it
@M.A.R. maybe he's friend of Trump
12:39 PM
I don't like Trump's bombing civilians though
@M.A.R. smart missile costs millions each. US can't afford that. So they just bomb large areas, and like in any war there are innocent victims.
@Derpy I think it behaved like that in the distant past, but it was buggy and weird.
Now it's not buggy. Just weird.
@JeremyBanks "think"... go and look in the code revisions.... :D
Mar 25 at 19:42, by Jeremy Banks
Heh, I need a better tool for looking at Git history.
12:49 PM
I could, but it'd be a bit of a pain.
@JeremyBanks Well....the current way it work means that if you have only one account the most "rational" way to behave is to create an account on any other site, wait for the bonus to apply and then delete the second account.
that way you get the free +100 and end up still having just one account as when you started.
Eh Avan
That actually makes sense. In Tamil
@Derpy for certain values of rationality.
1:06 PM
@sha what needed to be undeleted?
2 hours ago, by Shadow Wizard
@Bart https://meta.stackexchange.com/posts/294889/revisions
already done by the OP
and it is open, so my work is done here
let's start happy hour
@Derpy So? It's still just a 100 rep bonus, it can't be awarded again. There was a bug that @nicael found, that allowed you to use the rep for bounty, delete the account giving the bounty, then creating another account, put another bounty, etc. Think nicael spent 18k rep this way. (all reverted)
@rene I'll have a double coffee on the rocks
1:10 PM
@Stijn I prefer Sex on the Beach.
no alcohol during working hours! this ain't an episode of mad men
> Ingredients: 1 1/3 oz Vodka, 1 1/3 oz Cranberry juice, 2/3 oz Peach schnapps, 1 1/3 oz Orange juice

> Preparation: Build all ingredients in a highball glass filled with ice. Garnish with orange slice.

> Served: On the rocks; poured over ice

> Standard garnish: Orange slice

> Drinkware: Highball glass

> IBA specified ingredients*: 4 cl Vodka; 2 cl Peach schnapps; 4 cl Orange juice; 4 cl Cranberry juice
I'm a sucker for pina colada
I like a virgin Cuba Libre
1:17 PM
Is there a non virgin version?
Sure, the Cuba Libre
Does it have different taste after the first time? ;)
"Virgin" in this case meaning non-alcoholic. So a rum and coke without the rum.
So it's just.... coke?
1:19 PM
I don't drink alcohol :D
@Bart why?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?
I don't drink alcohol :D
@M.A.R. why?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?
@ShadowWizard kidney problems.
1:20 PM
oh :(
that sucks
@Bart so you drank in the past?
Nope, never have
You had kidney problems since birth... ? o_O
That is why I always have to drink twice as much, to make up for @Bart
Yeah, one of them is pretty much non-functional. It's still in there in case the good one craps out. @ShadowWizard. And to prevent a bunch of dialysis nonsense, I try not to do stuff that may harm my kidney
1:22 PM
damn.... not good idea to Google for double sex on the beach. :D :D :D (umm... and yeah,... don't do it)
"And it was that one Google search which got most of the Tavern regulars fired from their jobs"
@rene double Sex on the Beach for you!
^ nsfw
yeah those straws... they're too erect.... :P
Damn you sexy straws
1:26 PM
o.O Makes sure this is the Tavern and not the Den
No pee here, so it's not Den
Damn you CSS, took me way too much time to figure that min-height can't be overwritten with a plain height, no matter what. And even SO didn't help. waving fist
who did this - pretty funny
1:37 PM
@Stijn It's M.A.R.'s fault.
@ShadowWizard It's Journeyman Geek's fault.
@SmokeDetector here you go @Telkitty

@Shog9 I look forward to the blog post by your data scientists, about the goal of the tavern

The Dalai Lama walks into a pizza shop and says, "Can you make me one with everything?"
BTW @M.A.R. if you put nonsense words in Google Translate in your local language (Persian?) do you get actual words in English?
Because I do in Hebrew :/
@ShadowWizard That seldom did happen, yeah
Depends what you mean by nonsense
Try now, think it was changed really recently
Cat on the keyboard, or just nonsense in conversation
Cat on keyboard style

Nope. Can't repro
So expect it to come soon to your language as well! ;)
1:56 PM
Oh is that the neural network thing I read about today?
It was enabled for Dutch-English
@M.A.R. it shows "daughter" to me.
@Stijn so Hebrew-English as well
It didn't show anything to me
@Stijn so you know how it works?
1:58 PM
@ShadowWizard Either you're special, or I'm special
@M.A.R. or Google is A/B testing...
Google Neural Machine Translation (GNMT) is a neural machine translation (NMT) system developed by Google and introduced in November 2016, that uses an artificial neural network to increase fluency and accuracy in Google Translate. GNMT improves on the quality of translation by applying an example based (EBMT) machine translation method in which the system "learns from millions of examples". GNMT's proposed architecture of system learning was first tested on over a hundred languages supported by Google Translate. With the large end-to-end framework, the system learns over time to create better...
This one? @Stijn
omg.... but the actual translation is indeed waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than before. wow.
Wonder how many billions they spent on this.
@ShadowWizard Well, the Persian translation seems still as bad/good as before
@M.A.R. no worry, it will arrive soon.
@ShadowWizard yeah that's the one, a Google NL blog post says they've activated it today for a bunch of English-... translations
@Stijn yup, but for German it's active for several months
2:16 PM
@ShadowWizard so that folks could have a way to ask for their q-bans to be lifted you mean?
@Shog9 They'll always find a way, or an excuse ;p
You know the similarity between get your development application approved and get your Q ban lifted? You keep on asking a different councillor/dev&CM until you find one soft hearted one and let you get your way
they say persistence is the key, they are right
AKA "dad, can I do X, mom said I could"
@Telkitty assuming there's soft hearted CMs.
2:30 PM
dev & CM, CMs are like police - American police if you know what I mean ~_~
@Telkitty or like singaporean police. They're perfectly nice. Until they need to shoot you in the face.
@JourneymanGeek some will. But directing folks to the help center did cut down on this a lot
Devs are easier to convince because they are not trained to deal with pranksters
(also: requiring 5 rep to ask on meta)
@Shog9 assuming people who get qbanned read and understand it ;p
hah. True.
2:33 PM
@JourneymanGeek You expect too much
@M.A.R. I'm entirely realistic.
@JourneymanGeek that's the thing - if you give folks an obvious alternative to reading and following instructions, they'll take it, even if the alternative is completely ineffective for them.
@Shog9 or just go through the 7 stages of grief
@JourneymanGeek Please, enumerate
2:37 PM
-1 no proper spacing
SHOCK & DENIAL- I got qbanned.
@JourneymanGeek try again, and include the names of the states this time :P
PAIN & GUILT- Oh no. I can't ask questions. THE AGONY.
prepares pop-corn
2:38 PM
I got Q banned (lifted) multiple times - it's like quit smoking
"DEPRESSION", REFLECTION, LONELINESS- Oh god. I am so lonely, no one to answer my questions
THE UPWARD TURN- Posts decent answers and edits. Works towards getting unqbanned.
(Going back to watch horror)
@JourneymanGeek Please contribute by editing and answering
Tho most stop at anger and bargaining...
Step 9: Fall off wagon and get qbanned again.
2:39 PM
tbh I've only seen 2-3 people even get on the wagon to start with...
Tell me about the fun part where the ranty meta post comes into play
That's the best part
ye realize that the Kübler-Ross model had only 5 states and then they made up more :P?
@Derpy I'm a computer geek, not a psychiatrist...
Also, I was trying to remember if it was 5 or 7... ;p
@M.A.R. Probably around the anger/bargaining stage is where that happens.
2:41 PM
Definately there.
maybe depression. Depends on the meta post.
@Shog9 of course not, just give feedbacks to whomever write the help center contents. ;)
3:07 PM
Hey - I got a comment-reply on the SO blog early this morning that looks like it might be an attempt at an exploit (it looks like a bad one, but still)
Who should I forward the email to so they can look at it?
is there a [email protected] or something?
I'd say the general SO "Contact Us" link would do in that case
Or I guess there still is the team@ email
ok, thanks
I will use [email protected] since I want to actually forward the email
@bluefeet ^ either would be fine I guess? (Haven't poked you in a while, so there :D )
Email should work, but the official security page suggests contact form.
Dec 21 '16 at 15:04, by Jeremy Banks
@Stijn It is.
3:18 PM
Hmm, not sure this is truly at that level
Since he's a dev, the answer is official... and doubt they closed the email in the last four months. :)
Apparently the number of reports continues to grow:
2014: 1
2015: 3
2016: 7
2017: 3, on track for 10 for the year.
2 hours ago, by Shadow Wizard
I mean, it's a "bobby tables" type open HTML exploit
If it's someone who just tries to "hack" and fails miserably, I wouldn't pay attention at all.

Mar 30 at 13:01, by Bart
The blog runs on Wordpress, and is hosted by 3rd party, so SO engineers won't do anything about it anyway.
A CM can destroy the user, that's about it.
@Joe cool, let me break that
The user is more what I'm thinking
it was really quite pathetic
close tag, image open tag with a source...
more like he was probing
3:22 PM
@Gerry can they destroy Disqus users? Doubt it.
I guess I meant banning them from the blog. No idea how Disqus works.
@Joe or just trolling, no need to be worried.
The introduction of Disqus is why I stopped commenting on the blog (and there was much rejoicing).
@Gerry from what I saw, it requires OpenID provider, then creates a user for you where you can change some settings.
I'm sure a site owner can ban a specific Disqus user
from that specific site
3:25 PM
That's how it looks like ^
if we ban everyone, there will be no problem on this site
@Joe there is flag option for blog comments:
Better just use it instead of emailing the team.
@Telkitty starting with....... you? ;)

Be happy? How the *ç%# am I supposed to do that? Ridiculous nonsense.
Without getting drunk, it's tough indeed.
@ShadowWizard Yes, but I didn't want to load the page just in case the exploit actually worked...
I mean, I trust StackOverflow staff to be on top of things, but there's a limit ...
As I mentioned above, the blog is an externally hosted WordPress instance, so its security or lack thereof has nothing to do with SO staff.
Is it still? Don't think it is
@Bart Not still, it's again.
3:52 PM
@NormalHuman So, funny thing about that... Turned out that WordPress is a massive pain to maintain and host on-prem for us given the low activity on community blogs, but is actually pretty alright for non-technical contributors. I'm not up on all of the details, but as far as I know we ended up with hosting at a third-party provider who takes care of the infrastructure maintenance for us and consolidating company blogs from Jekyll and Hubspot into one location. — Adam Lear ♦ Mar 15 at 2:58
We got off WordPress hosted internally to go to a Jekyll (with Disqus comments) to turn around to an externally hosted WordPress. (I know. Whiplash.) If there's a problem with a Disqus comment, let us know. (And we will take care of it with much swearing in Disqus' direction.)
@Gerry see, I recall editing some Jekyll-based stuff
Two problems with Disqus comments: (a) They involve Disqus; (b) They are comments on a blog.
4:06 PM
@Telkitty agreed
4:17 PM
Bad answers being marked as low quality, when they aren't... the SESpeak is confusing sometimes.
I can imagine it is for normal humans

Is there an existing SEDE query that is network-wide except SO? Just to see an example.
Well I guess it's simple enough, just another condition in cursor declaration.
Yeah, the database_id's are not stable
So the condition is by name, which is "StackOverflow"? It's annoying how those are inconsistent with API site names.
Heh, I didn't get it right but the query completed anyway, including SO results.

I don't understand why my net votes go down and this answer's net votes go up, despite it mentioning a good thing about the question's proposal. Why is it? — Nic Szer 1 min ago
What's even less clear is why a proposal that's obviously dead on arrival needs 30 or so comments...
yeah, that didn't go well
When there are so many useful things one can do with comments...
For example, trying to convince Jon that Documentation is hopeless and SO should delete it and discard any servers that ever touched its data.
