@DroidDev but 30 mins back he was on -4 downvotes coz he was muslim & now they upvoted him. — maveň 17 secs ago
what can we do here?

@DroidDev if you suspect voting based soley on the user and not on the content/merit of the post you can flag for a mod and explain which evidence you have to support your point. When mods suspect the same they will escalate to the CM team.

@rene umm...its not me suspecting such behavior. Someone else is pointing this out, but without any evidence. I am worried that they are sending wrong message to OP.

@DroidDev in regard to suspicious voting involve a mod, don't engage in sending messages to anyone. You don't have the tools, mods do have some tools.

that is a link only answer, and should be regarded as such - the specific site does not need to be considered.
should be deleted or edited, and that should happen regardless the link pointing to EE or Skett blog of wisdom

@JamesENL Have you watched Split? CC @Jason

I have not, I'm not a fan of that type of movie

@Elephant seems that the user is "warning" him that he may be downvoted because he's a Muslim.

I read the plot synopsis though, it seemed interesting

@Bart fair point

Still ridiculous imho, but somehow less offensive?

user202362
8:38 AM
split's a bit fake though - a man kidnapped 3 girls and did nothing evil to them

user202362
other than confine them

@Bart The advice doesn't seem "offensive", at least by the common definition. The rude line maybe is the other message "why you don't understand my words", which is still somehow "acceptable" in the context since it doesn't seem to be aimed at being rude but more a "please, don't make me spell it out because others will start ranting"

@Derpy myeah, it seems to be a mix between language barrier and well meant advice, although overall I disagree with what he's saying and the need to say it.

if any, the message can be problematic since it suggest a "racist behavior" and as such it will cause discussion, rants and similar issues (proof: it started an argument with Droid)
so, it probably need to go - not because rude but because even if there was some good-intent in it it will surely backfire.

8:43 AM
I flagged the comment thread for removal by a mod

That said, while there is no proof that the OP in the referenced question was indeed target of "bad voting", try to not exclude the the possibility such kind of behavior could happen.
I have seen multiple cases of users that where insulted because of gender, race, religion and the such, and I had to resort to call for Comunity Managers support in a few cases, so please try to not dismiss the problem as "won't never happen here"

If the voting is happening someone should look at it. If it isn't, its causing excessive drama ;p
No reason not to flag

@Bart I exchanged few messages with commentor. He told that issue was last name, and when OP removed it, downvotes were gone. Not sure though, but I agree with flag for comment thread removal
@Elephant umm....sorry, don't follow podcasts much these days

@DroidDev I find it hard to believe users go "He's a muslim, let's downvote", and then after a name change go "Oh gosh golly gosh darnit, he wasn't one of them muslims after all, let us undo the damage we have done". But well, flagged anyway and we'll see.

Yes, that too

@M.A.R. Well, seems to imply that "Indian names" are more common when analyzing users who post bad content. Even if you had objective data about this, it may be a claim you don't want to make when the discussion is already "heating"
anyway, just an advice, didn't flag or anything similar.

@Derpy "fun" story: for a journal I worked for years ago, we handled the review process and publishing for the conference proceedings. For some reason the conference got so many submissions (far more than any conference in our field). Most of them came from China and were just dreadful. To a point where we almost wondered if it was worth checking any submissions from that region.
In the end we slogged through hundreds of them, getting reviews for all (note that we work with volunteers there), but it was tempting to just say "nuke them all, we won't get rid of much of value"

@rene prove it

@M.A.R. look at my picture. It is out of focus but clearly not a tag.

@rene It pretty much looks like to me.

@Bart sounds like the selection process for a job opening that gets 1000 letters: the stamp is up-side down, that will be a No

9:54 AM
Haha, pretty much. It's so tempting to do. Especially when you realize you're asking busy researchers to fully evaluate papers that won't make it.
In the end I think I passed all of them through a sniff test and was able to reject a ton of them before handing them out, but it still was a ridiculous amount of work.

may be true. But what I meant was different.
First, try to avoid to give fuel to an already thorny argument.

@Derpy there are much worse things in the Den... all buried deep. I can't delete this, only move to different room, where it will also be visible.

Second, when analyzing similar data try to remember that the only conclusion you may draw is that a social/political/economical environment may drive people to act in a specific way, not that a race may drive you to do so.

Basically, if you have to argue about China-originated spam, it is probably better to think of that spam as spam from people living in a (insert what you think China problems are here) environment than spam from Chinese people.

@M.A.R. take the most sensitive person you know. Raise the sensitivity level x1000. You'll still get nowhere near @Derpy. But all good, each and his own views/things to be offended from. :)

Commonly, China is regarded as a country that originates the majority of mmorpg hacks/bots/gold selling. Is that because they are Chinese? Or maybe any person from any country could end up acting the same when they need the money to eat?

@Derpy they don't need the money to eat. At least I highly doubt it. More likely evil/powerful people hire those hackers for very low salary and make millions.
(maybe backed up by the government which takes part of the income, maybe not, dunno.)

10:08 AM

I'm thinking this was your attempt to post a legitimate question; and your tone was much better that before. Therefore I'm refraining from downvoting. Kudos, since usually most people that start like you did don't make it this far, posting anything less ranty. However, the next prerequisite for asking something is looking for similar questions with a site/Google search, either here or on meta.SO. You're improving, and this post is a demonstration of that, but I hope it's not too late to learn. — M.A.R. 20 secs ago

I mean.. come on...
@Mithrandir I loved the movies. Felt like one long HNQ. Each of them. Didn't pay for most.
And @Mithrandir I don't agree the books are for kids. She also aimed for older people, in their 20's and even 30's, pretty sure about it.

Though I must admit, there is no nudity there, at least in the movies. So the movies might be indeed aimed mostly for kids. :)

No nudity or anything in the books either. There's a SFF question if you're interested...
