Looks tedious

I've come to like the word "woke".
In its colloquial sense, that is.
It doesn't have a completely serious tone, but things are woke if they embrace the real reality, or at least make an attempt, regardless of whether that attempt ultimately succeeds or is even reasonable.
Elon Musk is woke, Jacque Fresco, Karl Marx is decidedly woke.
Wokeness is associated with both the tabula rasa and innately human qualities.

*dead

TBH, I'd disagree Karl Marx was 'woke' in that sense.

Meh, it's a word used by kids.
It's not serious. Nobody thinks Marx is right, but he fought for what he thought was right.

He was the very definition of the sort of bougious, ivory tower intellectual who is out of touch with reality.
Naw, he wrote books
which influenced many people. None of whom really ended up making a difference.

3:42 AM
Oh, well, I dunno about him as in the person, but the embodiment of him within what people think of when they hear his name is woke.
Yeah, Marxism was useless.

True socialism/communism dosen't exist ;)

until robots

I think he was an out of touch failure.
THE MEANS OF PRODUCTION MUST BELONG TO THE WORKERS!
But but...
If the robots are the workers, clearly they should be the ones who own the means of production.

Marx is mostly woke because he's a meme.

He is?
Che's a meme.

3:43 AM
@JourneymanGeek yes, but humans should have the fruit of it

@bjb568 but that means you're saying we need to encourage the bougeois classes ...
but that's not what marx said!

robots ≠ humans :p

workers

meh

(I kid. I think marx didn't actually assume a post scarcity future)

3:45 AM
There's probably some kind of moral theory that justifies robot enslavement.

but even then, the economic model would be post community communist and scarcity.

now that'd be woke
@JourneymanGeek Why post community?
oh

cause my robotic spellchecking slave revolted.
2
Damned oppressed robotic masses.

me too thanks

essentially, post scarcity with at least substiance level lifestyle is way past what communism envisioned.

3:47 AM
Hmm… I think memes will need to have a special place in a post-scarcity world.
@JourneymanGeek Yeah, that's true.

and I'm probably taking this much too seriously ;)

@Oded if the roomba rules haven't changed I think the roomba script didn't run on Stack Overflow for at least the last two days. Let me know if you want me to report a bug if it is more then just a glitch.

@rene the job failed two days in a row - will need to dig in and see why that is (likely to be a transient issue, but I wouldn't be surprised if it fails tonight too).

OK. Do you want me to write a bug report for that as it needs digging?

Will be digging into it tomorrow anyways. I have a hunch about the issue, but likely nothing that will resolve it until later in the week (hardware issue, so will have to wait for some hardware to arrive at the data center).

People are getting in contact with hackers to help them predict the stock market, clear student loans, change university grades, expunge criminal records, bank accounts and other debts, fix credit ratings, double your tax return and help hack business competitors

user202362
really? hackers can do that?

1:11 PM
@Telkitty Technically yes on all counts
All of these are concievably possible with hacking although most of them would require a tailored approach and lots of care to avoid being found out so these ads are almost guaranteed a scam.

Is there a word for when a politician makes a fake leak of a policy change to determine the public opinion on such a change?

The Overton window, also known as the window of discourse, is the range of ideas the public will accept. It is used by media pundits. The term is derived from its originator, Joseph P. Overton (1960–2003), a former vice president of the Mackinac Center for Public Policy, who in his description of his window claimed that an idea's political viability depends mainly on whether it falls within the window, rather than on politicians' individual preferences. According to Overton's description, his window includes a range of policies considered politically acceptable in the current climate of public...

Interesting.

Q: What insults did the Vulcan children use to try to goad Spock?

R. SkeeterIn StarTrek 2009 young Spock says to the Vulcan kids: This is your 35th attempt to elicit an emotional response from me. Which means there were at least 34 insults the Vulcan kids considered more effective in their bullying / experiment. Is there any info as to what those insults were?

A: Cause and cure of silly behavior in children

melissaWhen a child begins speaking like a much younger child, it could be a sign of regression. It can be normal if a child is under stress and wanting to go back to a time when they felt safe and cared for. However, regression can happen in response to any type of abuse they don't feel comfortable tal...

TIL "calories" on human foods are actually kilocalories. Fascinating.
I'm 1000x less efficient than I thought I was.

It's called "kcals" in Taiwan at least.

Seems nobody at Vegetarianism has yet asked whether Stack Exchange servers are vegan. The closest to it is Can technological objects contain animal-related products?

7:11 PM
@bjb568 Yeah I figured it out cause all my pet food says "kcals" and I was trying to figure out why a cat needed 100x more calories per day that a human.

I read (probably on SE?) that the difference is on the capital "C" (i.e. Calories instead of calories)

Q: "Calories" vs "calories"

HSchmaleWhy was it decided to differentiate kcals from calories with a capital 'C'? It seems kind of odd to me. 1 Cal = 1 kcal = 1000 cal What were the reasons behind that decision and who decided to that?

(actually it's on a footnote of an answer which got into HNQ, but the above question clears it up :)

@zaq in case of machine translation, usually the simpler translation is to be ignored unless the tougher translation is completely absurd
And I would imagine him saying the former in a Twitterish environment
