after a million years of planning and two million years of saving on a measly developer salary, I'm finally putting together a dev rig :3
00:23
so it turns out the Law election isn't going too well
not enough voters, or something
which is a shame because the candidates are all pretty awesome
user315433
Not enough voters? Is there a minimum turnout requirement?
user315433
I thought the minimum was 1.
22% of eligible voters have voted thus far. Doesn't seem too awful.
user315433
There are 66 voters so far, which already beats NE election #1 which had 63.
00:37
huh. they seemed to think the world was ending before
user315433
Does "they" refer to some over-enthusiastic multi-site users still in high school?
user202362
many people though the world would end in 1999, then more believed that it would end in 2012
user202362
the world would not end, but you and I are probably going to perish in the next 100 years
@ᴡᴏʀᴅs and jimsug
@Telkitty I think it'll happen this time with pokemon go
I'll go all in with my unicorn bucks on that one

@Quill Just the unicorn bucks, eh? Saving the unicorn does for yourself, I see.

user57008Skylar, i've called tech support three times over the last 12 months, and I have never talked to anyone who sounded like they were offshore. It actually sounded like white frat guys. user315433
Does this mean anything in any language?
user315433

Bond, Jimmy Bond!
Google detected that as Yoruba language. Yoruba is used in West Africa, mainly Nigeria. Hmm....

Now you've used it, you can't use that joke ever again
Awwwww
user315433
There's a workaround: delete your account, create a new one, use the joke again.
But then I'll lose my metasmoke record
user315433
@Portal Interesting. Did it say what the word means in the language?
user315433
04:36
I don't know how to separate these into words, actually.
It's probably a suffix-title in some obscure language
Or Google just love to guess, but doesn't understand what they actually mean...
(By Google, I honestly mean Google Translate)
From one of the Twitter profile, "kinnujii bond"
user315433
If I separate into niyati bond, that is detected as Hindi and translated as Destiny Bond.
That.... makes more sense.
user315433
twitter.com/kinnujiibond/following is following 11 accounts, mostly Japanese... and Matt Cutts.

Is the Docs drama still ongoing? Or should I hop on in and grab some easy rep?

Q: Remove "If Q&A is chocolate, Documentation is peanut butter." in the documentation tour

J. C. LeitãoI don't see how this analogy helps the user to understand what differentiates the Q&A from the documentation. I don't even get the analogy (maybe a cultural thing). SO is not a place to this type of analogies, specially in a feature (documentation) that has been struggling to be understood. I p...

Oh dear. I didn't see that one...
Without having looked at the recent drama (nearly any)... from the private beta I can say two things: 1) the idea is good, but 2) it didn't seem to work out too well. Quite obviously rep isn't working great in the public beta...
Seems like both sides right now are way over emphasizing the problem. It also seems like a much better use of time on both sides would be finding solutions and implementing them -- not arguing pointlessly.
And those blue dots are weird. They're just pulsating weirdly... seems like a really weird UX design.
(yes, I know they're supposed to teach me about Docs. But I was in the private beta, sooo...)
No negative-score questions on MSO's frontpage? I'm surprised...
Ugh, I didn't realize that voting determined the order of examples on Docs. While that may work out eventually, it's not Q&A where there's a "best" answer. There should be some logical progression there...
Also, what do flags even do? Should I flag something because I'm lazy and don't want to do it on my own? Or does that annoy a mod?
Also, why are there so many buttons off to the side? It's like brain overload right there.
And people are using <kbd>s for links. Sigh. animuson needs to have a talk with those people.
I think that was enough of an intro to Docs for one day. However, from my (brief) glance, it appears that Docs retains, if not adds, more intricacies to the system than the main sites have. Why? Why must I read some weird help center page to figure out how I get full editing rights? Why must I search on meta to figure out how these things work?
If reputation is going to be added to main SO, make privileges the same. If you have 2k, you should be able to make edits without asking others to review them. It appears no one has those rights? Who knows, the help center doesn't tell me.
And with that intermission (thanks Smokey), I'm done with my comments for the day. Next time on "Docs Comments"...

@JamesENL I had to work once with one of the worst entity models I ever saw (properties with names mixing multiple languages, Object Ids, Dictionary<string, Object> instead of properties or with obsolete names such as Description begin used for an Address or Name begin a numeric value... and that is only the tip of the iceberg).
Since I couldn't work with that, I had to create some "mapping" service that would process that mess and give me something I could understand (== hide all the mapping nonsense in a single place)
In the end, we had a class called "PhilosopherStone" with multiple methods that would do the conversions... Every method was a variation like "TransmutateEvilProductToProduct", "DistillateOrderFromChaoticOrder" and so on...

Well, not 1000.... or 100.... but 10.
yeah of course, 1000 wasn't meant to be interpreted literally :P
I totally accept a regex to bring down my website to its knees ... even if I could have written something close to 10 lines of code ...
And merging spaces is as simple as while (text.indexOf(" ")>= 0) text = text.replace(" ", " ") when thinking about it
what about 3 spaces?

would work

huh??? what's the difference between "re" and "regex"?

It's fine for most cases but we needed regex somewhere. So now we use 'regex' everywhere for consistency.
