I did nothing today and still got my repcap

user315433
I don't see a reason for using floor, it throws out information. A lot of difference between 1.95 and 2.05, but none between 2.05 and 2.95. An employee that's in the middle between two integers doesn't see any impact of the changes they make in either direction.

This is why we need a Math Review site

user315433
I recognize being guilty of the same, converting a continuous range into a discrete set of A, A-, B+, B, and so on. But I have to because people expect letters rather than numbers on a transcript. Salaries don't have this restriction.

user202362
let's admit it, your maths isn't much better than mine

2:12 PM
The newly minted VP of Marketing (Alexa) hasn't made it to the management page yet.

I did the thing for a coworker of mine
according to this, he should make 101.800 a year
he makes 29k >_>

user202362
. or ,?

user315433
One can't easily convert between countries. Currency exchange rate isn't representative of actual purchasing power.

@Magisch you guys need decent minimum rates

user315433
In some countries employers state salaries post-tax, others pre-tax.

2:15 PM
@Quill Nobody in our company besides the owners makes more then 55k

@Quill it exists usually it's called MathSciNet.

And we have PhD's, Engineers, Material scientists...

What currency is that @Magisch?

euros

@quid if it doesn't go to my Network Rep, it doesn't exist in my eyes
@Magisch I meant like the country, not necessarily workplace

2:16 PM
I actually make 4600 euros a YEAR
>_>
<_<

user202362
but you are an intern?

apprentice

@ᴡᴏʀᴅs Ah, the ol' thing of uninformation vs misinformation. Too many sig figs is misleading, too few and you're losing accuracy.

user202362
still better than @bjb kitty

hey, a wild bjb appears!

user202362
2:17 PM
:D

@Telkitty I'd like to think I'm a lead JS guru ninja at a startup.

@Quill one can get points there too! 8 per review, worth a dollar each (to be used in the shop of the American Math Society though). But I am veering too off-topic now.

rep or bust

user315433
That's the kind of points I like... Why can't we redeem rep for SE mugs or t-shirts?

^

2:19 PM
that's what winter is for

Cannot login to SE on phone, getting broken captchas and suspicious requests.

user315433
It doesn't have to be cheap. 20,000 rep for a mug, 50,000 for a shirt.

wat

ugh..

user315433
Immediately solves that lack-of-high-level-privileges issue.

user202362
2:21 PM
@bjb568 changing IP probably

Bah.
Guess which site doesn't have this problem.

MySpace?

not DevDoodle

user315433

stacknews.org doesn't have those problems

2:22 PM
Correctamundo

can I do the bjb plug-my-product thing? or is one enough?

> correctamundo.com is for sale!

@Quill Once is fine

@Portal Woot woot

@Andy I didn't mean it like that
Resumes are fun.... I've got to finish mine to start applying for stuff soon.... My ego gets tickled by all the times I get asked for help and I like to think I'm an impressive candidate.... but then I look at my work experience and it looks mediocre at best...
if only there was some way to demonstrate my knowledge of programming topics without having to spend years in the workforce on that topic

2:25 PM
@Quill That's ok. I doubt the annoyance with the constant plugging of another product by another user came through as I intended.

@Quill Oh, my résumé is great. I have to consider what to remove, since I have so many things to write about.

Perhaps I should try being a ninja cat with sunglasses instead

user202362
have you considered putting a horn on your head?
2

@Quill Your résumé would be like 30% better if you were a major code contributor to an uber-popular programmer network startup.

that would be true if the repo wasn't private

user315433
2:29 PM
@Quill I suppose stacknews was a fun project for its own sake, but as an end user, I'm more likely to use a Twitter feed, @StackMetas

user202362
you would have companies knocking on your door if you have a couple of really popular apps on the market

@ᴡᴏʀᴅs Yeah, it was more a chance to experiment with React and Express

user315433
... which, incidentally, is available.

@Quill Should I open-source DD? I don't have private tokens and stuff in the code anymore :p

@bjb568 Perhaps it's better to get some DA users before you open source your platform

2:31 PM
@Telkitty one does not simply put an horn on its head. If you want unicornhood, you will have to deserve it

In the unforeseen event that someone forks your repo and forks you over

@Quill what you need Deviant Art users for?

@Derpy <_<" Daily Active users

Deviant Art's great and all...
Oh. That makes sense.

@ᴡᴏʀᴅs there's probably some social rule out there that any tool you can write has already been done better

user202362
2:39 PM
My own app company pays me $1 a year, I own the whole company of course :p

@Quill This isn't bad.

user315433
@bjb568 True, but also: the "skills score" is an intermediate result of calculations, not the final one. There isn't a reason to round those.

user315433
Unless one does mental arithmetics...

Well, you have to round it or at least quantize it somehow otherwise you'll have infinite information density.

user315433
It's a rational number.

2:45 PM
That's still infinite information.

user202362
3:02 PM
air cond is turned on to 25 degrees and I am still cold

user202362
wait, only 23

"only" ...

user202362
I have no air cond or heater in my bedroom, it's going to be freezing cold there

user202362
but I am in the study at the moment

o_O

user202362
3:06 PM
maybe I should put socks on

some climate scientists are now believing that due to runaway methane release in siberia and the arctic oceans the global temperature average could raise to 86C by 2050
Well then

> Very interesting. I wonder if I can get more likes on Instagram by adding my salary to every photo. Will update. disq.us/p/1aeqzt1

user315433
"Bret Copleland" is a typo, but I'd need a Disqus account to comment on that, so...

user202362
and the medicine is not bitter

@ᴡᴏʀᴅs depending on the salary we could also have a good laugh. Not sure how that translate in instagram likes

3:41 PM
Yeah, I know Facebook likes are cancer treatments, not sure about Instagram.

user202362
let's talk about my $1 a year salary that I pay myself

user202362
and not that one of my tenants is 10 days behind in their rent

user202362
I love my fat, fluffy chickens and they love me too I think ...

You have chickens?
I have a kitten in my office.
Beat that.

You are a kitten in your office

> It's important to remember, in these dark times, to get enough fiber in your diet. -- Joshua Heyer at 9:44 AM - 27 Jul 2016

user315433
I'll keep this in mind when considering today's lunch.

user315433
Serious Human was also talking about these dark times yesterday, hmm.

user315433
Regardless of who you support this coming November — please try to be condescending and assume the worst of everyone you disagree with.

user315433
Solid advice, also for Docs debates.

It's a phrase I think should be used more often, in these dark times.

5:08 PM
Did somebody die, or are we still on a time out?

@Shog9 If you don't mind revealing it, what do you think about the november election?

user315433

@Magisch I think they're gonna cheap out on the stickers again and by the end of the day folks won't even know I voted.

user315433
The latest RO chat feature must have been inspired by "Don't speak".

@Shog9 And in general? What do you think of the candidates (If thats not too personal)?

5:10 PM
they're all terrible.

@Shog9 Ugh. You too? My wife accused me of not voting last time because they were out of (or never had) stickers

it's criminal, I tells ya

So how do you guys over there deal?
Our media here treats the US election as a very elaborate practical joke

Either Trump's gonna win and Clinton supporters will yell about how Bernie supporters made it happen by voting their conscience, or Clinton will win and Trump supporters will yell about how Bernie supporters made it happen by voting their conscience.

user315433
I don't know why people stress out so much. Neither looks much worse than Vladimir Putin to me. And Russians are doing alright for the most part. And that's even before comparing the checks for presidential power in two countries.

5:13 PM
@Magisch that's somewhat inaccurate. In truth, US elections are a very practical elaborate joke.
...until you get to schoolboard elections. No one jokes about schoolboard elections.

Bernie is to the right of merkel which is already a conservative :p
Spectrum and stuff :D

I'd be ok with Merkel for president. But, some rule about having to have been born here.

@Shog9 You can't have merkel she is here and needs to run this thing
I didn't vote for her and I disagree with many of her policies but she's kinda ok for a conservative :p

Don't be so selfish.
@Magisch so in all seriousness, the primary function of the president here is to be the scapegoat for whatever else is going on. Most of the power lies elsewhere. (couple key exceptions there, but...)

@Shog9 sounds familiar
We also have a president, and its not merkel
all he does is sign stuff and give speeches at memorials

5:17 PM
The position has been famously called a "bully pulpit" - an excellent job if you want folks to hear you preach, but not a good job for someone who wants to quietly run things.

a high school friend of mine will run for parliament in the next election here

the US President always has an audience, always commands attention... But how much happens at their word is primarily determined by their ability to persuade, not dictate.

And he's replacing an incumbent of the green party (he's running for the green party) so he won't have to do much election stuff, but I'll be on his campaign "Staff"

good luck!

@Shog9 Our politics works with less with public grandstanding and more with long drawn out argument in the parliament
I like having discussions here, the people on stack are somehow inherently more rational. In most other forums it deviates into nasty stuff quickly. I haven't really seen much of that here.

5:22 PM
just don't say anything bad about Trump, or I'll have to ban you and put the room in timeout.
...wait, was that my "good" example or "bad"?

Not sure
But I appreciate my cameo in your post :D

I stay safe: Vote Shog9

vote rene
extra flowery

That would bring back flower power. Not sure if that is a good thing.

flower power is neat

depends on your definition

Before you get too invested in the idea of "rep inflation", @Two-BitAlchemist, consider that average rep per user has been falling for Q&A for some time now, and is currently at an all-time low. Here's a fun graph: i.stack.imgur.com/aFPnR.pngShog9 ♦ 1 hour ago

user315433
Might look different if dead accounts were actually removed when they are eligible.

Probably not. I'm being lazy and only counting users who earn rep - average rep earned by participating users would be much lower.

Final delete vote needed, crappy trolling. one, two /cc @Bart @rene
(and better nuke that useless account, but that's not in our power)

Done

Thanks! And Shog (most likely) nuked the account. Yay! :D

umm.. @Shog your sock chat profile isn't synchronised with the main profile. On purpose for some reason?
