@badp Yeah, but I'm very much not banking on winning that election :). I think I'd have a chance on a meta election, if only because far less people care about meta
@ChrisF Assuming that's still the policy, I'd suppose so. I had a bit of trouble deciphering what Jeff had written there the first time around, heh, so I wasn't entirely sure.
@MichaelMrozek Well, the end of days is probably counterproductive to community growth, so perhaps in an indirect way.
@TimStone Obviously you mean @RebeccaChernoff. @RebeccaChernoff is in charge of all that you see and hear. She controls the horizontal and the vertical
What does "all but" mean in this expression?
I have all but gratitude for what you have done.
I have seen this used as an intensifier to mean "I only have gratitude", but logic says the sentence means "I have all kinds of feelings towards you, except gratitude."
I have all but forgotten about you.
This means that even though much time may have passed, or many events have occurred I have not forgotten about you.
It is emphasizing that no matter what has happened (or presumably will happen) I haven't forgotten about you.
I don't think your example m...
I had a subset of nothing but chicken, or chicken, or neither
I just wrote a native Java function whose sole purpose is to throw whatever exception I pass it, because Java can't see native throws so it can't tell that I'm throwing an exception I didn't put in my method signature
@drachenstern I really should have learned how to use Swing properly (though I'm not sure there is such a method) before writing it in the first place...but unfortunately I'm a bit pressed for time as far as a rewrite is concerned at the moment.
I have gone past "cute question" and "I've got upvotes" into "wtf is wrong with this community that they can't do the one thing they got together to do" and I'm getting into the mood of community defender thinking that they're the ones with a problem
even tho it's not really my community to begin with </irony>
I think Jeff is weaseling out on this one and I can't say that I see a flaw in his logic which makes me sad ...
I'm trying to articulate my words for it so I know that I'm excising the demon that is vexing me, so I'm sorry if I'm just annoying you guys, say something and I'll shut up
I feel that I had a bit of an accomplishment getting upvoted so highly on E.SE for what I thought was a good answer and to see it torn to shreds by serial downvoters who happened to be puritanical makes me upset. The same as I would be upset by my coworkers destroying the internals of a class that was beautifully written and they tried to kludge in some awkward function that belonged to something else.
can't drop one end of the government and raise the other
@mootinator lol
The only thing I believe firmly in paying for is the military. But I think they should be responsible for more public works and that we should be more isolationist than we are now
@MichaelMyers Can we start with the buildings in and around the beltway? I bet if we sold those and cut the jobs that were tied up therewithin we could free up a chunk of change ...
Cole's Certified First Step in Government Reform: Send the Senators and Representatives home every other term, at a maximum. Make them have home jobs and show up for their duty as part of a rotation.
@MichaelMyers I'm not either when it comes to governmental reform. Not even if we got to start fresh on Mars or in space.
What is the Objective-C equivalent of the JavaScript concat() function?
Assuming that both objects are arrays, how would you combine them?
Javascript:
function ffh(year, month, day){
if (month < TISHRI){ms = ranger(TISHRI, lmohy(year) + 1).concat(ranger(NISAN, month));}
else{ms = ra...
@RebeccaChernoff I guess I'll have to do more on SE sites so that I can get notifications to be excited about being able to be notified of in chat, heheh.
