Speaking of the rate limiter, it being mean to me last night. I could understand it in the morning when I opened 78 tabs to SE sites at once. But 12 hours later when I was waiting 5 minutes to hit f5, blah! >_<
We have a lot of sites plus a lot of child metas LOL. Once they're open they're easy to ctrl+tab through. And it is easy to right-click on a bookmark folder and say "open all"
well you'll be hitting tier 1 ... so i would keep it simple, just say "I'm getting a connection reset error when trying to connect to a website, and I have worked with the admins to verify the issue is not on their end"
@RebeccaChernoff sounds like you can report that one internally? :p ... I'm curious if it's because of all those sites being open ... are you hitting it from SE from the multicollider? Does it happen more often when you get notified?
@drachenstern No, this was completely and totally separate from opening all tabs. I did that in the morning. I got the rate limiter then but just waited. I browser the network all day and was fine. Then something like 12 hours later I got rate limited just doing light browsing. I just figured it was remnants. q: I only mentioned it because the limiter was mentioned.
@RebeccaChernoff gotcha on the 12 hours later. I'm following, trying to move into debugging by curiousity ... has it only happened the once or twice then, or is it regularly?
@TimStone I meant like /assign @RebeccaChernoff moar :p
@ChrisF I still expect them to at least have a tech or two manning the call centers/NOC ... I've never met an ISP that didn't have a few individuals manning the NOC during holidays
@ChrisF apparently growing up in the South where things take time hasn't prepared me to live with that sort of delayed response ... and I do mean the Deep South (where the colonies sent the prisoners, and beyond)
@drachenstern I actually think that Comcast goes to great lengths to find people who will work those hours, so that if you're foolish enough to call then you'll learn to regret asking for support.
@TimStone Ha. Nope, totally non-fiction. My back's killing me. (At least, that's distracting me from the neck pain.) Yesterday was a very good day. Today, not so much.
@TimStone Ironically, I think I just saw a position for which I was submitted show up on Craiglist. I have a feeling it's the lack of Coldfusion experience that may be the issue. (Who in the world still uses Coldfusion? WTF?)
As someone who doesn't follow this room 24/7 and used to use the star list to try and catch the good moments, I'd like to thank whoever keeps doing that -- you're the best
@drachenstern I'm writing an app that needs certain logic. i don't know all of the calendar math behind the logic, but I know enough JS to get by and I know ObjC, so I'm porting the code without understanding all of it.
> Nielsen polled 2,131 people about 4G. Of that, 893 said they understood what 4G is. But when pressed further, only 54% of that really knew what it meant (super fast wireless). 27% of the people polled think it's the latest version of the iPhone.
@GeorgeMarian I read that 4g isn't real. That the wireless consortioum will only certify 100 Mbit tech as 4g and nothing even comes close, thus current "4g" is all hype
@ChrisF Hmm... I may have been too hasty. It could just be a similar-sounding username. That, or someone -- the user himself, or mods, or 10kers, or some combination thereof -- wiped away all the heavily downvoted stuff.
Is there a single place where I can see all the elections in process without checking each site individually? Something like stackexchange.com/elections would be nice...
OK well I am off to box seats at a Hurricane v Bruins game so a local datacenter salesperson can sell me on leasing 5 times what I need from him. Catch you all later!
It looks like some (auto) deletion is going on with the SO nominations. There's one with a posted time stamp of "Jan 1 '01 at 0:00". I spotted a couple earlier that have gone completely.
@TylerChacha whenever a teach comes over and types into your realtime chat, that's a sign it's time to get off the computer in my experience
@DanGrossman I would love to see that compared to a few other factors, such as size of government, total population, working population, GDP/country, GDP/head, and I think China and Brazil should be included ;) ... ahh responsible reporting, where are you?
