@YiJiang but there's no analytics on it, right? so google analytics doesn't know anybody viewed it.

@RebeccaChernoff No, as in, I produced a HTML version of the README and included it in the gh-pages - there's a link to it at the bottom of the features section
But yes, most of the links does not go back to the site itself
So hang on, GA doesn't track the usage data if the user doesn't visit more than one page?

@YiJiang this takes me to the .md in the repo

Hard refresh?

Ugh...seriously Canonical!? Who thought that 1px window margins were large enough?

...
I just did a hard refresh on github's readme.md...
headdesks

5:06 PM
The bounce rate figure isn't going to be useful here, unless... is there anyway of getting GA to consider the github repo pages as 'in site'?

Restoring database: Progress 0%......

Man, this is a depressing status meeting.

status-depressing
You know what else is depressing? Losing to you in Scrabble every time.

@TimStone It's ok... totally offset by trouncing @MichaelMrozek.

If it makes you feel better, my entire list of last games is wins right now. >_> <_<

5:19 PM
lol... great job

@Fosco Ah yeah, that's really the icing on the cake isn't it?

wait, when did all you people start playing too? hmmm ... I see more potential WwF in the future, since @RebeccaChernoff never plays anymore :p ;)

@drachenstern I occasionally make a move on WwF when I'm by the iPad at home, but I prefer WordFeud on Android.
On either game, invite me... gfosco

@Fosco oh, well that's no fun :p
@Fosco as soon as I decide I need to not get actual work done I shall ;)
aka /me is trying to focus today .. not having much luck tho

ooooo 20%

5:22 PM
Opposite mode here... I intend to do very little.

@Fosco I can offload :p

was trying to focus, but this whole restoring database business is a blocker.

@RebeccaChernoff Hahahah, and I was just about to comment too. Nicely done ;)

@RebeccaChernoff I do. Hence the wink.

VirtulBox's mouse integration sure is failing me today. Or, maybe my mouse is dying, but I haven't noticed it outside of the VM.

I'm desperately hoping that one day, the @DalaiLama will end a Tweet with "So I've got that goin' for me, which is nice."

hello

@TylerChacha hola

6:00 PM
@GeorgeMarian How are you doing this morning?

@TylerChacha Well enough, except for this nasty stiff neck, which is really cramping my style. I just spent 30 mins doing something that I didn't need to do. lol
And, yourself?

Well. I just had a Frozen Hot White Chocolate Chocolate

Glad I'm not the only one waking up with a sore neck (two days now)

err .. a Frozen White Chocolate Hot Chocolate
Frozen and Hot cancels each other out
and Chocolate and Chocolate reduce to one
So I had a White Chocolate...

Hooray for Algebra.

6:03 PM
@TylerChacha Eh? Explain?

So
You take a Hot Chocolate
and Freeze it. Make it like a Slushi.

Only if you had a Chocolate || Chocolate

@drachenstern It usually lasts for several days, especially when it's bad. Ironically, I did this while working a kink out of my shoulder. =/

Then you put White Chocolate Syrup in it

Will has no soul. :|

6:04 PM
Making a Frozen White Chocolate Hot Chocolate

@George same here :/

@TylerChacha Why not a Frozen Hot White Chocolate?

Frozen and Hot cancel each other out like -1 and +1. Chocolate and Chocolate combine in 2Chocolate (x + x = 2x)

White Chocolate is no chocolate, some argue.

Making my drink a White 2Chocolate
@GeorgeMarian That isn't nerdy enough...

6:05 PM
lol

Or Chocolate^2

I had a White Chocolate Squared?
Why not..

Ok, I think it's time for a break and some breakfast.

@GeorgeMarian SCHNAPPLE!

@TylerChacha Yah, I wish I had some.

@RebeccaChernoff Super serious, even.

@RebeccaChernoff This is true. I will forgive your messages re: Userscripts

@Fosco Meh, they're mostly water and milk.

@RebeccaChernoff I forgive nothing

I was going to post a link to an answer that's my best chance of getting Reversal - but I thought better of it.

@ChrisF Oh, man. That guy again. Some people have nothing better to do, huh?

Yes - he does seem to have a bee in his bonnet at the moment

What really gets my goat is that he has 4.5k rep on SO. More rep then I have on any one site. Yet, he posts questions like that.

Awww, no sharing the link? :( ... :p

Damn - the "related accounts issue" I get has just kicked in when I tried to take a look. I'm now locked out from SO for 5 minutes

8:32 PM
@ChrisF Oh?

Don't start to talk about people without link, we want to know too :p

lol
Well, dang. I closed the window.

@GeorgeMarian If I try to view anyone's related accounts the page hangs and then I can't view any SO site for about 5 minutes. It only happens on this machine (XP SP3), not all the time, but more often than not.

Q: Voting on "closer"?

01For example, this question was closed: closed as not constructive by Walter♦ 10 hours ago It would be cool if there was an option of down voting the closer/close. Also, why was one person able to close this? Shouldn't it require five votes?

Dat's der bunny

8:34 PM
@MichaelMrozek That be it.

I would report the problem, but it would only get closed as

@ChrisF Errruh?

status-norepro

Yah, that'd prolly a tuffy.
That said, I got the same response when I first reported the chat authentication issues.

It's almost like SO is applying some sort of rate limiting. But why does it only affect me at home?

8:37 PM
They do have rate-limiting, but it doesn't just start ignoring you, you get an error message

@ChrisF You've cleared the cache, right?

@ChrisF what exactally is going on?

@GeorgeMarian Yes. Plus it happens on all browsers - Chrome, Firefox and IE

@ChrisF When you're at home, are you using a sockpuppet with less reputation? That's got to be it.

@Zypher OK - if I try to view anyone's related accounts on their profile page the page rendering hangs after the profile info but before the flairs are drawn.

8:39 PM
@ChrisF sometimes it works better if you come in here and scream and kick and raise a fuss and ask for help
Not always of course...

any extensions, greasmonkey scripts, userscripts installed?

After that any request for a page on any SE site (but not chat) is "rejected". For example in Chrome I just get the "loading" spinner in the tab and occasionally a chrome generated server not responding message.

and what do you mean by locked out? Get the rate limiting page or can't resolve?

@Zypher Extensions - adblock (turned off for all SE sites), Pendule, Google URL shortener,
no greasemonkey or user scripts installed

And it happens on all browsers or just Chrome on your XP box?

8:42 PM
odd, we do have rate limiting but that just redirects you to a "YOu've been bad" page on sstatic

what sort of router have you got in between you and web?

not ip ban you

All browsers and just on my home machine.
@drachenstern USRobotics 91111

from the ISP?

No - all my fault ;)

8:43 PM
when it happens can re resolved stackoverflow.com ? can you connect to anything else on the intertubes?

oh an ADSL router?

@Zypher It takes about 5 minutes but I can get back in and during that time I can access any other site (including chat) just fine

hrm

I'll get it to go again and post the exact error that Chrome reports.

and it's pretty consistently 5 minutes right?

8:45 PM
@drachenstern I haven't timed it exactly, but it's never more than that.

what DNS resolvers are you using? During the non-error and error periods a tracert might be of use too...
k, let us know the next time it happens

Not sure I understand "DNS resolvers"
It's happening now - I want to generate the error

also can you send me your current IP to george AT stackoverflow DOT com

Will do
That's the error I get

@ChrisF I meant your DNS Servers
like Google DNS is 8.8.8.8 etc

8:48 PM
Ah that makes more sense

technically they resolve
also don't discount {<-- is a dork}

Primary 212.159.13.49

for your DNS you mean?

Secondary 212.159.13.50

8:49 PM
Yes sorry

nono, it's fine

They're my ISPs (www.plusnet.com)

I deduced that from the lookup ;)
did you email zypher?

8:51 PM
@drachenstern Just doing it now. Can never remember the IP so had to go looking it up.
Back up now. Ping works during the problem too.

Oh I wanted an actual ping against the servername
to make sure it was resolving, and that it wasn't a DNS issue
Hmmm ... I can't trace my route to cdns01.plus.net but I can ping it ...

Wow, we passed our PCI compliance test with extremely minimal changes necessary!

digs and pings and nslookups, oh my!

@ChrisF and that was during the error period? So it doesn't seem to be a network issue
what network card are you using?

@drachenstern Yes, during the error

WTF, traceroute isn't installed by default?
glares at Canonical

Onboard network card

@ChrisF i'm taking a look at our logs

8:55 PM
@GeorgeMarian Ubuntu is perfect, it has no need for traceroute.

@drachenstern Atheros AR8131 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller

Connecting the dots leads us to the ultimate conclusion that the Ubuntu kernel is really just jQuery.

> cdns01.plus.net: Name or service not known
errr?

Yeah, I got that too, heh.

@GeorgeMarian yeah, same here :\

8:56 PM
@TimStone Uh-hum, likely story.

it's gotta just be an internal resolver then, for their clients only, to keep the public intarwebs from sucking on their interfaces
however ... that does make me curious what other "tweaks" they have on the network

Is this something I need to report to plus.net?

@drachenstern Yup.

Especially considering Chrome reports:
> Error 101 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_RESET): Unknown error.

and I'm back

8:58 PM
@ChrisF yea you're not hitting our rate limiter

@Zypher I thought it would be odd if I did, but you never know there might have been a bug with the flair requests

well, there was a bug w/ firefox 3.x that caused a metric crap ton of requests that triggered the rate limiter
we fix that though just wanted to make sure something similar hadn't happened

@TimStone An unfortunately necessary hack? At least, that's how I view jQuery. I guess it could work for Ubuntu, as well.
