Interesting: even at present, Necromancer is being issued more often than Revival on SO. I think the root cause is the fast pace of technological development in this area: old questions get new answers that bring up new techniques on old problems. They get upvoted, and rewarded with Necromancer.

Revival requires the answer to be first, unlike Necromancer. If a question has no answer on SO for 30 days, chances are few people care.

@Frank The subject matter of other sites is more stable. Gardening does not get revolutionized every year by some new gardening framework.

"revolutionized" is a wrong word here... it's more like things that were clumsy in version 4.0 of something get a new solution in version 5.0, precisely because they were hard to do.

I just calculated. I get average 45.17 rep/day on GL while active, so If I had joined when the site launched, and been active the entire time, I'd have around 61,025 rep. That's hard to believe.

@FamousBlueRaincoat monsanto develops and patents glyphosate (roundup) resistant crops.

@FamousBlueRaincoat glyphosate works by blocking the plant from absorbing nutrients. thus.. it dies. If I can engineer crops that are immune to it, but weeds aren't.. viola! (until cross-polination/evolution kicks in.. ha)

Like corn. Then that corn pollen blows through a neighbor's field. This neighbor is old fashioned, and likes to save his own seed. Monsanto gets ahold of some of the seed, tests it, finds their patented gene (transported through wind pollination) and sues the farmer. The farmer goes out of buisness.

It's happened countless times.

It's why I don't like monsanto.

@bjb568 I don't know how the state counts hours in the day. All I know is we are 15 days over (which is true of most districts). However, there are a few districts that haven't moved to the "hours" based snow-day plan because of teacher contracts. So they still only get 5 days.
