@hichris123 idk, just a suggestion since it catches lots of fps
Return the string obtained by replacing the leftmost non-overlapping occurrences of pattern in string by the replacement repl.
non-overlapping might be the problem.
user259867
I don't see how that would be a problem... Can you test the sub command on this post body?
@SmokeDetector fp
lolwut
00:04
@SmokeDetector Yay encoding errors!
@Fundamental IMO global should fix it
user259867
@Braiam But Python docs (as quoted by hichris) says it's global by default.

@Fundamental err... no, it doesn't say that

user259867

done
Wow!
This is beautiful. Props to designers. Even tho the rest of the site still sucks.
@Fundamental It worked the same in 2.7. So... shrugs
user259867
@hichris123 I think I found the problem: the body is unescaped before testing. So, if a code block contains < (escaped to &lt;) this will mess up with the regex.
Of course, since bjb was being positive, he needed to come up with something negative to day.
user259867
Possible solution: remove code blocks earlier, prior to unescaping.
00:23
ALSO, WHY CAN'T IT SHOW MORE THAN LIKE 20 OR WHATEVER THAT IS?!
Looks like somebody is in regex parser hell…
user259867
Another solution would be to change the regex, so it's not greedy.
@Fundamental Fairly sure that's not the problem.
user259867
@hichris123 Why? The second code block, the one that triggered the fp, has <?php in it. The regex matches <code>[^<]*</code>, which does not match <code> <?php blah > </code>.
@Fundamental I just tested it locally. To be fair, it was in a separate Python file, but still...
Why are you getting the HTML body instead of the actual post body?
00:28
import json, re
import HTMLParser

parser = HTMLParser.HTMLParser()

data = json.load(open('test.json'))
items = data["items"]
body = items[0]["body"]
print body
print "-----------------------------------------------------------------"
print "                                                                 "
print "                                                                 "
parser.unescape(body)
print body
print "-----------------------------------------------------------------"
print "                                                                 "
(see full text)
@bjb568 Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh............. wut?
user259867
@hichris123 and what was the result?
Why don't you get this?

[4 spaces]code

instead of this

<code>code</code>
user259867
@bjb568 The purpose of regex is to remove code blocks from the post.
@bjb568 You mean markdown? Use correct terminology, cat!
whateverz
If you got md, you can just strip lines starting with 4 spaces or \t.
@bjb568 Can you do that?
Get md? That's what I'm asking you.
Yes, we can get markdown. But can you easily strip lines starting with 4 spaces?
Yeah.
00:32
... regex plz?
(or whatever)
If you want to be fancy and strip code inside quotes or something, that'd be more complicated.
Uh… like:
@bjb568 ... what?
mystring.replace(/^(    |\t)[^\n]+/g, '')
Uh… what's the start of line thing?
shrugs I'm not a regex person. :P
Me neither.
00:35
me neither xD
'test\n    asdf\ntest'.replace(/^(    |\t)[^\n]+/g, '').replace(/\n(    |\t)[^\n]+/g, '')
This seems to work.
user259867
