insightful filenames on my desktop: Book2.xslx, untitled.png, random.png, wtf.png, new2.html, default.jpg, backup.sql, oh wow the list goes on. I'm so creative.

@drachenstern We call the syntax that it parses the "magic variable syntax", so I felt it was appropriate. ;) Heh, of course. Why use the convenient, purpose-made entry point that's already there when you can completely sidestep things and make a mess of it? :P

@TimStone I know right? I also put a simple control for assigning error messages to, so that I can display them formatted correctly on every page. They would rather randomly copy-n-paste a label from another random file and lblInfo.Text = "error message"; ... mine sensibly does ErrorControl.AddErrorMessage( "string", Exception); with overloads for each parameter to be absent and displays Exception.Message but does it in a consistent way and doesn't obliterate multiple messages...
I have almost got it on every page now :D so I can eventually reformat once to add a pretty red border and pink background when there are messages present

Hmmm... is there anyway to change the feed favicon with Yahoo Pipes?

@YiJiang probably not

I'm pretty sure the people who say to use 40 character passwords don't actually do so themselves. I'd get sick of typing my password really fast if it were 40 characters long

@MichaelMrozek Eh, I was required to have a long password once. It wasn't so bad.

@MichaelMrozek oh hai

@MichaelMrozek my password is 30-something characters...

is it more secure to use a sentence as a password?

@Chacha102 Passphrases are more secure than passwords, yes.
Indeed, I'm going to chance all my passwords to "oh hi" right now.

@rchern congrats!

@YiJiang Its click once installer made me click four times! I feel offended.

@radp Heee... well the "ClickOnce" thingy is Microsoft marketing crap, but otherwise... meh
I think you'll need at least two: 1. Link -> 2. Security confirmation

One click to start the download, the other to make sure I want to run this thing from the internet, another asking about the publisher, another to start the download.

7:04 PM
@radp But once you began the installer proper, after your browser and security settings made you do their bidding, then how many clicks were there?

Hmm, I need a better speaker phone for these teleconferences.

@drachenstern One, which at this point is one too many :)
Since I confirmed twice I really do want to do this stuff.

Telling the browser it is ok to run is different from telling the installer it is ok to run though.

@rchern and is different from telling the OS it is ok to run

@AdalArasan Are you kidding me? You post a couple of interview questions here and then flag them for moderator attention asking the moderators to answer them for you? I consider that abuse of the system -- a moderator flag is there to make moderators aware of problems, not to make them do your work. Don't do that again.
@PopularDemand In context that response is even more ridiculous
@rchern, why are you in that Java room? :P

8:07 PM
I wonder what world some of these people come from where they think this sort of thing is okay. I don't mean trolls who are just trying to get people angry, I mean people who genuinely think this is proper behavior.

@TimStone I just joined it. (;

@PopularDemand I've always wondered that myself
Ah ;)
It makes me sad that that's the actual (it seems) Java room.
In great part because of the description: "Discuss anything concerning JAVA"

@drachenstern Okay, I've only ever tried Java... maybe one other "language room" once at some odd hour of the night, so I guess I just got unlucky.
@TimStone why are you in the Java room? And why are you so blurry there?

That's why. And because the URL to my gravatar is incorrect. I think @YiJiang figured that out. If you refresh it'll fix itself.
Wow, I have the volume up far too loud.

@TimStone Curious.

so odd ... in future my call would be just to anonymize accounts of high rep users asking for deletions

so I'm confused. "Robert Page leaving totally messed the ..." ... "the userid was missing and the page could not cope with it" ... "anonymize the accounts of high-rep-users asking for deletion" ... why did he leave? ~ Now you've added "permanently ban"??? I'm so confused

ask him ... I read the emails and could not figure out ... he was upset about the call to delete a post of his

@drachenstern He wanted to file a bug report. Apparently, pages can't cope with missing user IDs. But he figured people would say "link or it didn't happen," so....

@PopularDemand so he left SO? SOIS?

8:31 PM
@drachenstern Yeah, he left SO and asked that his account be removed (which it has been)

@drachenstern I was kidding. He used to be a high-rep user on SO and MSO and possibly other sites.
Usually his name was Gnome.

Why am I thinking Roger not Robert? |:

@rchern Roger Pate != Robert Page.

ohhhh
yeah that

I never really wanted Azure, but it was a "free" offer from MS so we took it

Haha, thanks, I could use one!
The bitch on my back has been at it, legal threats and more. Which means that even when not dealing with that situation directly I am stressed out about it, making the times I am working sooo unproductive

Threats against you?

@TimStone Yeah

Yeah, I'd call the police. Your lease agreement is with him right?
Yeah, wow. Have you started looking for another place yet?

10:33 PM

The whole situation is just insane. And I've been perfect, never late, hardly ever complain, everything's in perfect condition... I don't deserve this crap! :-p

And bitch to random people on the internet about our misfortunes, of course.

What do you mean by "fits"? I can only assume that since Chrome seems to work fine for me, the answer is "no", but

And your state laws imply that you're supposed to receive written notice within 30 days of a property transfer to notify you of the new payment recipient, so until such a time when that happens, too bad for her, heh.
I remember a time where Firefox would decide that instead of loading the correct images from cache, it'd load whatever it felt like, and stick stuff where it didn't belong.
Good times, good times.

Oh? I actually didn't look that up @Tim, thanks!!!
I know my lease states that. Great to know the law does, too

11:05 PM
@TheUnhandledException it's caching my pageside javascript or something, because I make a change, say add alert('hi'); and it never shows up in the page
@TheUnhandledException Most states actually support that
but of course, IANAL
IAACP

Your state has a super-brief section on landlord-tenant laws though, not sure what's up with that. I couldn't find an answer to my real question, which was whether or not landlords are allowed entry to the property without prior notice.
Though I'm pretty sure if you have to bring a locksmith to break in....that doesn't really count anyway.
Plus, you're paying someone rent still right?

The StackExchange™ AskQuestion MotherShip™ grows.
Nite.

Yeah, I think the state law also says that there are only four reasonable grounds for eviction, so as long as you're paying rent to someone, you don't violate that, and the others don't apply to you.
Hahahahah, awesome. :P
G'night

Night @radp!
@TimStone Thanks. Your support helps me feel better. Logically I know I'm probably pretty well covered, it's just the whole situation makes me emotionally stressed and upset, you know? I mean my life's really boring, even if she did break in, what's she going to do steal my sockpuppet ID? ;-)

Also, my bad, I should have thought to ask if you wanted me to quash my comments as well. I tried to be as non-specific as possible in either case, heh.

11:10 PM
But just the thought of my home being invaded... and how irrational she's acting, it's freaky!
@TimStone Nah you're fine
I'm more worried about what I state publically

Yeah, I can understand that completely. It's certainly not a pleasant situation. At least you have some recourse in that event though.

Any time, heh :P

Bah, where's that timeline script when I need it? :-)

He had said something to the tune of "Ah, this again? Good job Jeff, sticking to your guns. Gotta show 'em who's boss and keep insisting this isn't a bug when you know it is."
(prior to Jeff's answer)

HAHAHA
Oh that Welbog... always so harsh :-)

I'm all for telling Jeff he's wrong, on a fairly regular basis, but that's completely not a bug

11:18 PM
I agree that it isn't a bug, but I do feel like it's undesired behaviour.
You're voting on what you see, not what the server sees, so there's some disconnect there when this happens.

@TimStone Confusing, yes. Undesired? Not sure

I imagine it doesn't happen all that often though, so meh.

@TimStone Point taken, what would you have the system do, a message "You can't vote on this question because it's been edited, please refresh the page"?

Possibly, like the notification of concurrent edits on posts (and similarly for answers). I don't think that's a particularly robust solution, but for a once in a blue moon kind of event I don't think it's all that bad.
Now, whether or not I think it's actually worth doing that...

Yeah like you said, how often does this happen

11:25 PM
We should definitely model more things after the concurrent edits handler, because it works so well

Heh. :P

The solution is not a technical one, it's a behavioral one. Refresh the page on long posts before voting, to see if anything changed. I obsessively refresh anyways depending on what I'm reading, since anything can change drastically in 30 seconds on SO
any question that has more than three answers and that takes up three or more screens to ingest the whole conversation and that is less than five minutes old, I'm probably going to refresh four times before I leave the question

That's...fairly odd

sorry, forgot part of that

I don't typically vote on brand new stuff anyway, heh.

11:28 PM
I'll vote on new answers
I'll vote on questions if they're written well

I vote on anything, always and often

@TheUnhandledException so how do you get those super secret post-30 votes?

11:58 PM
@MichaelMrozek well that wasn't a secret you know
