hi, is it just me or it is easy to make "mistakes" with the close vote review queue?

Mat
6:10 AM
What do you mean by "mistake"?

"STOP...."
I just entered two this morning, so I stopped caring about reviews.
I had a different opinion than what it was expecting.
It is safer for me to cast close votes separately. That way, I can have my own opinion. :-)
(no wonder the close queue is this big because I think people lose the motivation with primarily opinion based audits)

Mat
You know you can filter by tags in that queue? I find it much easier in tags I'm familiar with (i.e. C & C++, which have no shortage of pending reviews). I don't review much though.

I did not know that, but still, I had a different personal opinion than the audit.
(I guess it can happen with any tag)
is it possible to skip audit questions without warnings? Do you have to act there right, and skip is not acceptable?

Q: Are review audit pass/fail decisions ever triggered by Skip?

Kate GregoryI've argued passionately in the past that when reviewing edits, Skip is often a blatantly wrong choice. I also feel there should be edit honeypots, but I believe there are not. For the remaining review queues, is Skip always a not-wrong choice? Are there audits out there that will tell someone "...

Strange, a thread appears in my close vote review queue which I flagged for closure. What am I supposed to do in the review queue? Simply skip?

Mat
Did you flag it before you had 3k rep? If that's the case, just vote to close, unless you disagree with your former self :-)

no, it was a vote close casting.
i.e. it was after me getting 3k rep.

Mat
Then that's a bug. Shouldn't happen since you can't really do anything about it (unless they added a button to retract close votes in the interface, but that doesn't really make sense).
(Perfectly normal to see questions you've VTC'ed in the reopen review though.)

6:42 AM
sorry, I got that it was already flagged for closure
but apparently, it has no close votes.
I may have used the flag.
but even then, I cannot do anything else than skipping?

Q: Should flagging a question for closure prevent close-voting?

psubsee2003Back in April, I flagged a post as "not a real question". The post was subsequently closed and reopened, then closed again and finally just reopened a 2nd time a short time ago. I still firmly believe the post is not acceptable for SO, so I went to use my recently acquired close vote privilege ...

Didn't know that, so I guess all you can do is skip.

7:13 AM
@Mat: thanks.
@Mat: do you know why close votes ploriferated?

Mat
7:33 AM
AFAIK the close review queue has been growing since it exists, it's not something new. And prob. no-one knows (outside SE) what the close backlog looked like before that was implemented.
It's just a symptom of too much incoming crap, not enough people to filter it (or not enough power to those doing the filtering I guess)

@Mat: it is about 82K now, and when I joined about 50 days ago, it was 12K less.
i.e. 1/7 within 50 days.

close vote handling has changed since (aging is different I think)
The second link has recent progress data that doesn't agree with what you said. 70k level was back in august.
And Sept. is Crappy Question Month.

that is not disagreement
50 days ago, it was the beginning of August....

Mat
Ah sorry. Thought you were talking about when you got 3k.

@micha It's... it's... the solution to anything?

Also, Flack Overstow just gave me a really great excerpt:

hi, long comment discussions are OK where the two parties clearly continuously disagree, or should we flag them?

Kev
@LaszloPapp linky?
@LaszloPapp if it's not-constructive / heads off in a tangent then yeah flag it.

@Kev: I did, but some moderator or 10k+ user declined it.

Kev
@LaszloPapp post the link

@Kev: is it possible in private?
I would not like to roll unproductive and long comment discussions in public; sorry about that.

@Kev: that is an email address, just in case?

Kev
@LaszloPapp yeah

@LaszloPapp ta...digesting...gimme a few mins

@Kev: sure, take your time.
10k+ users can see the deleted posts, including answers and comments?

Kev
@LaszloPapp 10k's can only see deleted answers, not deleted comments. Only diamond mods can see deleted comments.

4:51 PM
@Kev: ah, I see.

Kev
@LaszloPapp gonna go for a smoke and read this on my tablet, quite a lot to read :)

@Kev: yes, even the answers are long, and self-explanatory for the situation.
@Kev: I do not think the long comment discussion is needed at all.
@Kev: but that is just my personal opinion. I will leave it with you. Mind you, if it does not get deleted though, I need to "undelete" my comments (rewrite them) to avoid the one-sided stuff. I would rather have a null-sided thing in there though.

Kev
@LaszloPapp yeah...without seeing the deleted comments I don't know how things veered off track. Constructive disagreement is fine but that's gone off the rails a bit.

@Kev You know that mailinator is not really private, right?

Kev
@Bart really? I thought it relied on a cookie and address to allow visibility?

4:59 PM
nope. If I wanted to I could visit that exact same inbox

Kev
@Bart deleted now

Good. :)

Kev
@Bart " Mailinator provides no privacy whatsoever and understandably cannot by virtue of its open design." gotta learn to read the small print. Not that I use it for anything other than signups confirmations if I suspect I might be spammed
@LaszloPapp I mod flagged the answer, the diamond mods will know where to clean things up from.

5:51 PM
@Kev: thanks a lot.
@Bart: hi, how is life

Hrm, I got my link posted back to me, then a post failure with retry option. sorry for posting that twice.
@Shog9: If you are around ^ then you'd be in a better position to nuke the whole lot network wide.
