@Shog9 that makes sense. This is too complex for me
@animuson what fiery wrath, where?
I have three assignments to finish but I'm always up for some Meta fun

@animuson oh, I see
I must admit I was hoping for something more of the "STACK OVERFLOW MODERATORS AER CORRUPT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" sort

Hi yesterday I had asked this question.. which got no reply.
23 hours ago, by Mr_Green
Do you guys made any changes in websocket support?
today again the problem is there.. why wasn't the problem present yesterday then?
WebSocket connection to 'ws://sockets.ny.stackexchange.com/' failed: Unexpected response code: 502
I asked Network admin here... he is saying he don't know why it worked good yesterday.
@Mr_Green Have you tried this link?
yes
it is showing port 80 is disconnected
I am saying that yesterday it worked good
I am not saying "why it is not working?"
yesterday also port 80 was disconnected
04:30
Ohhh.
Understood.
I've got nothin'.
hmm k
thanks for reply :)
No prob =)
Sorry I wasn't more help.
nah it is just I asked for info
You could post on meta. You might be more likely to get a response.
no time
I will if I have time
and also they ask tricky questions..
that will prolong the discussion...

Video games need some kind of alert message... "You do know you've been playing this for 12 hours straight now?"
06:12
@balpha Is there any way to prevent getting tons of app notifications while I'm chatting with someone on the mobile site?
"app notifications"?
The mobile site doesn't ever consider a ping acknowledged, it's quite annoying.
I don't think that's what HodofHod means
@balpha I'm getting notifications popping up from the SE Android app telling me that I've received chat pings.
Okay, so that's what you mean after all -- but that's just your normal Stack Exchange inbox. There's nothing special about those app notifications
but no, the mobile chat version doesn't acknowledge "user has seen the ping" like the desktop version does, because it's very easy to not actually see one in the mobile version
06:17
I asked Marc if you could consider the user posting a new message as acknowledgement a while back, but I don't think anything came of it.
I would veto that
Oh, that's...disappointing.
on a phone you see maybe 5-10 messages if you're unlucky -- no way we will treat speaking in that situation as acknowledging
@balpha I guess what I'd like is for the app not to keep giving me Android notifications while I'm chatting. If they go into the inbox, I'm fine, they can even remain unread, if they must.
Meh, it's totally better than having my inbox regurgitate a conversation I already had to me when the message I'm replying to is only a message or two back a majority of the time.
06:22
@HodofHod How would the app know what you're doing in the browser?
@TimStone acknowledging the last few (essentially, the visible ones) I can get on board with.
@balpha Magic?
Or this?

Q: Reading notification on website should clear native Android notification

Steven VI think it would be nice if you read an inbox notification on the desktop version of the site, it should dismiss the native Android notification in the system tray. It seems kind of weird when I come back to my phone an hour later, and find a bunch of notifications I thought a dealt with... and c...

@balpha I suppose I should have been more clear that I didn't expect anything more than that. :P
I don't mind it playing safe, but having no acknowledgement ever makes having an active conversation fairly annoying.
06:41
@balpha You essentially said that you won't automatically clear inbox based on actions in the mobile chat. The implication is that you can. All I want is to use that to prevent native Android notifications. The inbox will remain untouched.
all the android app does is look at the inbox
I have an idea though, I'm playing with it right now
Thanks, let me know, please :)

@TimStone @HodofHod What do you think? Just click (tap) the message to remove the marker and acknowledge the message
08:50
@balpha I could get on board with that :)
it's building out right now
@balpha ...
looks good

Q: websocket connection worked fine for one day

Mr_GreenHere on my network, the websocket's port 80 is disconnected. So, the websocket connection for stackexchange sites does not work. it throws an error in console always as shown below: WebSocket connection to 'ws://sockets.ny.stackexchange.com/' failed: Unexpected response code: 502 But yeste...

I want to be able to vote on posts from the onebox. I don't have time to be doing all this extra clicking.

Mat
You'll probably get that when they implement the vote, close and delete buttons right on the front page.
14:25
I would also like to be able to set up a list of people in my profile. Then, whenever they vote on something, I automatically vote the same way.
Man, I am full of good feature requests today.

Best to have a one-click create sockpuppet button on every user's profile too
Don't let SNash hear you @jadarnel27.
This, combined with @jadarnel27's auto upvote idea will definitely not result in massive vote fraud. Absolutely not.
Agreed. It will only result in the raising of the quality of the site.
Mat

Don't forget to request an auto-comment ("+1 'coz jad loves you") when that auto-vote kicks in.
14:29
Hahaha
14:44
@jadarnel27 how is your French? .... the first entry sounds suspiciously like you webagencyfail.com
"Je pense que le projet nécessite l’intervention d’un développeur sénile."
"Euh… senior, non ?"
Haha, that is excellent, @Bart.
Sénile, senior, what's the diff.
Right?
Pretty damn close
I just guessed that first sentence means "I think the project needs the help of a senile developer."
Yep :)
The Spanish verb for "to think" is really similar to that, so I just went with it.
That was the only part that doesn't look close enough to English to just assume =)
14:55
Haha, true.
@balpha FYI, these mobile chat update is working great so far. I really like not getting the extra inbox notifications.
I feel like it might make more sense for that button to say "dismiss" or "acknowledge" or something like that.
Generally, I expect the text of a button I tap to indicate what that button does.
"Mention" is more like a label to tell me I've been mentioned (and there's already green highlighting for that on my username).
/2¢
15:23
@jadarnel27 the point is really a to be a marker -- saying "this is a mention (you haven't aknowledged yet)" -- not a button
it just happens to be part of the click target
FWIW I'm not set on the actual appearance, I'll have Jin take a look at it anyway
15:46
@balpha That makes sense. Thanks for making the change =)
15:57
Are you going to have to retrieve Jin from weeping quietly in the corner? I assume that's where he's been since that post looking for feedback on the new SE topbar thing.
Black? That's dark grey - Jin
They should make it "light-ish red."
Hot-dog theme?
Yeah! I was actually making a really outdated reference to a web-show called "red vs blue". Hot dog theme is better, though.

@balpha That works; thanks!
I lost my ability to ask questions recently, and then got it back a few days ago. Now it is gone again
I have tried to edit m y questions, but they are not showing up in the list of questions. What to do?
If I don't edit, I don't get the upvotes
so I can ask again
I lost it on stackOverflow
Can I have a few upvotes there?
Please!?!
Mat
Mat
Do you have some deleted questions? If you do, edit those and flag them for undeletion once they're in good shape. Begging for upvotes is unlikely to help.

I do.

Mat
Well then flag one of your posts and kindly ask a moderator if they can undelete some of them so you can work on making them better and hopefully lift the ban.
17:12
@Jin, @Balpha: last week I flagged one of my answers to let moderators know a serial downvote streak had not been handled by the serial voting script.
The flag is still unhandled; perhaps I should have taken it to the devs instead?
I don't care about rep loss (it was regained with the next upvote, I had already hit the cap that day), more concerned this is a corner case that should have been detected but was not.
Eh, @Jin should not need to be bothered with this unless he feels the script needs a design makeover or he's much more into code than I'd expect.

@MartijnPieters I'm just a lowly designer, me no code. @balpha is a wizard though
Yup. Appreciated the hats though! :-P

Iron Eyes Cody (born Espera Oscar de Corti April 3, 1904 – January 4, 1999) was an American actor. He impersonated Native Americans in Hollywood films.
