@Ollie I know you're trying to be helpful but please don't feed the troll; just flag and move on
5 hours later…
5:49 AM
1 hour later…
7:14 AM
There are no options to flag a user if they have no posts/comments, correct?
So if their user information is filled with spam, we're just out of luck.
7:25 AM
@Mast just flag one of your own posts, or any post, and link to the user profile, explaining what is wrong.
@rene A bit hacky, but sure. That would work.
it is what worked for me in the past and is the agreed on procedure across the network AFAIK.
Now you mention it, I vaguely recall something along those lines.
7:41 AM
It is a long-standing FR to have an option to flag a user but for SO I don't fancy the extra load that will generate.
@rene Too many false positives I imagine.
This user (closed|deleted) my (question|answer) / disagrees with me / edited my post / left (a|no) comment
8:03 AM
45 messages moved to Chimney
@rene deferred is the new orange
Looks like it's a way to sweep everything under the rug, but meh... not that it really matters.
@Mast no need to imagine, they added "flag user" option for a while to test it, and were flooded with "false positives". Thousands.
@ShadowWizardWearingMask I'm not a developer and I'm not stupid enough to try that.
How did a real developer not see that coming.
@Mast of course they saw it coming, that's why they had no problem to remove it.
Oh wow, turns out there's a minefield of duplicates on MSE about the topic.
Can't find the experiment though, but that's mostly a matter of no longer seeing the forest by the amount of trees.
8:23 AM
@ShadowWizardWearingMask sorry. I thought it was the like button ...
8:43 AM
@ShadowWizardWearingMask That's a bold statement without proof :P
@ShadowWizardWearingMask feels like a lot of effort for that

eating second slice of pizza
At lunch?
Time difference Tink.
@Tinkeringbell he's an adult.
He can have anything he wants for lunch.
Anytime after 12 is pizza time.
It's almost 13u there, so pizza could be cold by now.
@Tinkeringbell it's a big pizza
9:59 AM
Oh, for all I care other people eat all the pizzas in the world...
I still think pizza is more of a dinner thing than a lunch thing though.
@Mast yup exactly 1 (pm) now
@Tinkeringbell I agree, but too lazy to go buy something, and got some leftovers of pizza, so..... ;)
I have my reservations about pizza for breakfast, but that could still work.
pizza people are weird.
@Mast think it was only mentioned in chat, will try looking for it later... :)
There's people having problems with putting pineapple on pizza. I think that's weird.
Pineapple with cheese and ham, nothing wrong with that.
10:04 AM
@rene it was.... :D
@Mast But put it on bread, not pizza.
@Tinkeringbell And put it between a waffle iron to make a pineapple tosti?
You got it ;)
That's a lot of work for something you can buy as a pizza.
But the pizza often has more stuff than just pineapple, ham and cheese... like tomato sauce ...
10:12 AM
That's bonus.
Now I'm hungry and got a stupid song in my head.
@Mast ff wachten, pizza?
@Mast that's a gif, not a song. ;)
10:27 AM
@Tinkeringbell ugh ....
10:41 AM
I don't really like pizza
\o/ Welcome to the club :)
@Tinkeringbell white pizza!
Yeah, people keep saying that.
@Magisch I'm a fan. But I don't think we will have it any time soon cause so's ash and he got sick the last time my parents fed him some ._.
I like rice more
Maybe it's because my stepmom makes incredibly delicious rice and I've learned her secrets of making rice taste good
you can do so much with it, it truly is a culinary staple
10:46 AM
rice is everyday food :D
Pizza is a sometimes food
I don't really value variety in foods
You can't compare rice to pizza! That's like comparing bricks and skyscrapers!
Rice is an ingredient, pizza is a dish.
rice tastes better then pizza to me (the rice that I make - i can't make my own pizza) so if the choice is between pizza and rice the rice wins everytime
while rice has the additional advantage of being incredibly cheap and durable
@terdon Thats true, but to make the rice into a dish you only need some asian noodles, chicken broth (powder form) and either a bit of beef or chicken, and some oil
.... noodles and rice?
The 'good' thing with rice is I can stick it in a rice cooker, and get the core of a properass meal easily
This one recipe involves frying small asian noodles in a pan with oil, and then putting chicken broth in the rice water, and adding the noodles, then the rice. When the rice is done it has absorbed all the water and has small noodles mixed in, and then you can fry it in a pan with either chicken or beef
for the most godly rice pan possible
for variety just add any friable veggie and fry it in the pan prior
one good thing about this is all the ingredients last a long time and are very cheap to buy in bulk.
10:53 AM
@JourneymanGeek bread?
@ShadowWizardWearingMask uh no
white pizza has a cheese based sauce as opposed to a tomato based one
Pizza without any sauce is just... bread. No? :)
@JourneymanGeek oh
@Magisch precisely: you need all sorts of stuff. So it really isn't comparable to an already prepared dish.
That said. If you have rice, why would you add noodles? That's a new one to me.
Starch Overflow!
@ShadowWizardWearingMask You didn't get the reference?
@Tinkeringbell Now I have 2 stupid songs in my head, thanks.
11:03 AM
@ShadowWizardWearingMask yes, both rice and noodles (maybe not, depending on the type/source ingredient of the noodle?) are very starchy.
In my brain's kitchen, rice and noodles are always a "one or the other" thing.
Like rice and pasta.
I don't think I've ever seen anyone trying it, rice with noodles.
11:18 AM
@Mast I've heard singing them out loud, until the end, works ;)
Works even better if you do it in public. Wearing just your underwear.
Heh. That reminds me of a genius argument I read yesterday.
People over here are vehemently opposed to a national requirement for mouth masks to stop the spread of COVID. One 'lawyer' (law scientist?) said such a requirement would go against the constitution, because it would be enforcing people to wear a certain piece of clothing...
One counterargument was that no one gets to walk naked through a busy shopping street either, rules exist that would make you wear at least pants to avoid a fine ;)
@Tinkeringbell we have people here that do that
@Magisch Wait what... people just walk on the street naked and they don't get arrested/fined?
11:29 AM
@Tinkeringbell Well yes. And it's exactly the same. We don't tell you what to use to cover your genitals, only that they need to be covered. During the covid era, your nose and mouth are added to the "genitals" category.
I got called out by an officer in Southern France for biking without shirt on once, and you get to do what now?
@Tinkeringbell In some countries, yes. I've done it a few times when I was living in Spain (Barcelona): we had a naked cycling protest to ask for bike infrastructure (bike lanes and the like).
The idea was that as cyclists, we were naked in front of cars.
But yes, they had recently passed a law that decriminalized public nudity. Not lewdness, of course, simply being naked.
@ShadowWizardWearingMask You have been warned
@terdon I mean there have been a few such protests here too, but from what I understand you have to ask for a permit for a protest anyways, so having one like that would also mean in that case the municipality gave you permission to be naked at that spot at that time.
11:32 AM
@Tinkeringbell Ah, no. The law explicitly allowed nudity.
Oh wow... Nope, we're oldfashioned here :P
It was kind of absurd not to given that there is a nudist beach right next to the city. So before they changed the law, you could be naked here but not there which was 2cm away.
And, of course, just because it's legal doesn't mean people do it.
Ah, yeah... that makes more sense... is it still local law or national?
@terdon reminds me of my question on Law.SE
Q: How come the nude protesters were not arrested?

Shadow Wizard is Ear For YouI read today about the Anti-Censorship Activists in New York (Warning! NSFW pictures inside link) who protested against Facebook while being totally nude out in the street. I'm also pretty sure public nudity is not allowed in the USA. How come they were not arrested or at least warned by police...

11:33 AM
@Tinkeringbell not sure.
But I don't see why anyone would make a law against this, it seems silly to me.
@terdon so anyone can be nude in the street, any time, just like that?
@terdon Christianity?
First because I object to the vilification and sexualization of the human body (naked != erotic) and second because come on, who actually wants to walk around naked in a city!?
@ShadowWizardWearingMask Yes. But naturally, nobody actually does it.
@terdon Heh. I can agree on the last one, there's enough judgmental people drinking beers on terraces already. I would hate walking past that naked ;)
@terdon this (onebox isn't good idea, NSFW images alert)
11:36 AM
Exactly. There are far more effective reasons to not be naked in public and in a city (social taboos, practical problems like the lack of pockets, hygiene), why is a law needed?
@terdon thanks, now I have something to do when I next visit Spain. :D
@ShadowWizardWearingMask OK. So 1 person in a million or so might do it. Big deal.
@terdon Sunburn
Also, apparently things have been inverted since I lived there! it is now legal to be naked anywhere in Spain except barcelona!
> Spanish law does not have any article that prohibits public nudity, it is therefore always allowed. Regional laws have changed and Barcelona for example has banned nudity or semi-nudity on the streets.[36]
@terdon 2011?
11:40 AM
@Mast I think it must have been around 2008 or so? I remember I did it twice, in two consecutive years and I was there from 2002 to 2010.
@terdon well, one rotten fruit can ruin everything around it.
@terdon dang! Will have to find other city.... :P
Barca is in lockdown at the moment anyway.
yeah... :(
You can still be naked with a mask though. And that HAS to be legal if only for the humor value!
@terdon outside? But you'll break the lockdown...
11:45 AM
would be a pretty powerful counter argument too "look even the people who abhor clothes as a concept are wearing masks"
In Israel, protesters against our PM started to use the nudity weapon just recently. So far only few, and only women, but.... it will most likely spread.
@terdon apparently its a thing
@Magisch rofl.. but hey, true. :D
(nudeist beachesish things with masks... or mask laws)
@ShadowWizardWearingMask Like a virus?
11:57 AM
@Mast hehe.... maybe like a social virus - people will see it helps, and do it themselves. Until police will start enforcing the law and arrest them, of course. lol
So far the police is really tolerant with the protests.
Of course those they protest against are angry because of it.
More accurate the one they protest against, and his Followers.
Anyway.... back to safe zone of....

I was thinking of the plague doctor mask, but apparently it 'frightens the children'
@JohnDvorak That's a good thing, right?
Apparently not
I read somewhere some frightening science that children could carry up to 20 times more coronavirus in their noses as adults (I hope that's just something that was never fact checked)....
12:34 PM
@Mast oh, that's brilliant!
Frightening them out of my 1.5m bubble seems a good thing, then :P
@JohnDvorak There's been an increasing amount of cosplayers with masks like that. No joke.
Extremely strange days are these
Where a child kills with a sneeze
@Tinkeringbell There's a bunch of papers on that, I don't think there is a strong consensus apart from that children probably can get roughly similar virus levels in their throat as adults.
@MadScientist But have you read something about more? That one's new for me.
12:38 PM
@MadScientist :D That's good to know. I do hope at those levels they're just as symptomatic too!
@terdon there was one paper that claimed that, I'll have to check if I can find that
Huh. Don't go out of your way to search for it, but yeah, if you happen to find it again by chance, pass it on. Thanks!
> Here, we report that replication of SARS-CoV-2 in older children leads to similar levels of viral nucleic acid as adults, but significantly greater amounts of viral nucleic acid are detected in children younger than 5 years.
July 30, Chicago.
One nice thing is that pretty much every COVID paper is open access, nobody is putting them behind paywalls
12:54 PM
@ShadowWizardWearingMask anything green yet? :D
@NobodyNada yeah. It's just that I feel compelled to respond, especially if they say something like "I don't even remember why". Sorry, I won't comment next time they appear.
@MadScientist that was quick! :)
It was the first hit in my search ;-)

@Spevacus have there been any posts about Italic text in question titles?
@Ollie There's a pretty good canonical question about why formatting isn't allowed in titles, but after a quick couple searches, nothing that specifically requests italics in titles.
1:12 PM
@Spevacus thanks.

@Tinkeringbell If not for the meat, cheese and vegetables, perhaps the reason you don't like pizza is that dried out example in that photo. Here's a much better one, a $3 pizza:
@Rob Oh. I really, really dislike tomatoes. That's all XD
The only think I'll consider eating is ketchup, because of the amount of sugar in that.
@Tinkeringbell what about mushrooms?
1:27 PM
@Tinkeringbell Despite this being a depressingly common view it still makes me sad.
Is that a tiny pizza?
Tomato season is like the highlight of my year.
I can eat them. I make faces though, and I can't control that XD
@Ollie Sure, though we don't eat a lot of different kinds, I do eat those. They're not the tastiest highlights of dinners here though.
(Probably not prepared right).
We have greenhouses. Every season is tomato season.
@Ollie just noticed that.... your avatar is green! :D
1:30 PM
@Tinkeringbell Well, if it's yours you could put sugar (even syrup) on it; but that would be weird. I believe it's possible to get without tomato sauce, but that's weird too. 😃
@ShadowWizardWearingMask I'll be fixing that :D
I once ate pizza with mayonnaise on it.
You could totally get it with alfredo sauce. It's lovely.
I'm not sure about that.
@Ollie to what color? Blue?
1:31 PM
@ShadowWizardWearingMask It's not bloody fries.
@Shadow nooo. I meant the pizza with mayonnaise.
Garlic sauce works though.
@ShadowWizardWearingMask I may use the yellow avatar :P
@Mast well it was tasty. :D
@Ollie I know, I replied to your "I'll be fixing it" message. ;)
@Ollie "the"? You have some from which you choose?
@Mast If 14" diameter is tiny, then yes it is. When I view the image on my phone it's barely 2 cm wide, so yep, it's pretty small.
1:32 PM
@ShadowWizardWearingMask I'm not saying :P
Heh. There's a pancake restaurant that serves pancakes with basically pizza toppings. Last time we visited, I saw the table next to ours order those, and the lady put syrup on top of it.

Given the amount of laughing mom and I did about that, I wouldn't dare attempt suc a feat on a real pizza XD
@Tink that would be a waste of good pancakes.
That's yours ^^
@ShadowWizardWearingMask blows colossal raspberry
1:33 PM
@quid I don't think a page like this exists. Or at least it isn't shown.
It's.... perfect!!
@Ollie Actually, it's kinda tasty to have all sorts of meat and cheese on a pancake.
@Tink depends if it's sweet or not.
If savory then I totally agree.
@Ollie I wouldn't put all sorts of savory stuff on a pancake, then add syrup :P That was the point of my story! XD
Pancakes, scrambled eggs, and bacon.
1:35 PM
@Ollie another option using your hash:
I may have 5 tomato plants on my deck...
For pizza?
@Rubiksmoose Nice!
1:36 PM
Fruit on pancakes / waffles = good. Vegetables, meat, cheese, fish = !good
And last but not least, the robo-vatar of @Ollie!
@Rob Fruits are also nice. But savory stuff too...
@ShadowWizardWearingMask not again, please :D
For anything! I love eating the smaller ones right off the vine! We have some romas and beefsteak ones in the yard that are great for pasta and pizza :)
1:37 PM

@Ollie no worry that was the last. ;)
@Shadow good.

@Ollie yes, Gravatar can serve several types of avatar
@Ollie Bleach can be used on the eyes at least once.
@Mast after you.
@ShadowWizardWearingMask Why thank you! Currently I am quite upset at it though since the lugnuts are apparently utter crap and one of them stripped completely when I tried to remove the tire yesterday. So currently it is not in my good graces.
@Ollie Drank it once, your turn.

@Rubiksmoose pfft. We've got an old Honda Odyssey from 2005? 2004?
And it still runs...okay.
Hey, it still runs. That's pretty much all I ask of my cars.
@Ollie how many miles/km?
My car is 2009, 480000 km.
@ShadowWizardWearingMask closing in on 120K miles I think...
@Ollie not bad... :)
1:45 PM
We've also got a Honda Pilot from 2009 with, oh, 165K miles.
And a lot of those miles were rough.
@Rubiksmoose will it do 90MPH?
Or what...145kph?
@Ollie I think we've probably hit 90 before in it. Probably could do a bit more. Why you wanna race me?
@Rubiksmoose I've not found anything out about the Pilot except that the engine will rev to 7200 RPM, well past the 6300 redline :P
And sure I wanna race!
Speaking of which, it's a nice day out, so if y'all will excuse me... :D
@ShadowWizardWearingMask Add a new sin to the list, you forgot Unicornify!
2:04 PM
@Rubiksmoose indeed. Thank you. It was replaced by another mechanism.
@Rob it's long dead.... :(
Except for the first thing on the list, all of those are quite dated.
2:19 PM
@ShadowWizardWearingMask You also didn't list the newest avatar, the AR Emoji; where your face is scanned and an avatar is created:
Emoji, not avatar
2:40 PM
@ShadowWizardWearingMask Read the definitions of the words: Emoji, Avatar. So, which is it?
3:03 PM
Basically, this is what you are saying:
@Rob you remind me of Christoph Waltz
That a limited list of icons, that neither represent your face nor something outside the standard emoji list, is an "avatar"; and that you could take a very low resolution (even lower resolution than that, but then it would just be blocks) photo of yourself and somehow encode it as an "emoji".
It's not my fault that they call it "AR Emoji", that image is an "avatar", you can go further (by pushing a button) and it will generate a dozen emojis out of the image; but the meager number of emojis it can provide hardly replaces the full set of emojis already available.
@M.A.R. I remind you of a German actor, we've discussed that; it's called Ideasthesia.
I'm not sensing anything, I'm just joking
3:34 PM
I sense that
In what sense?
The real issue is that somebody decided to keep their genes in a spreadsheet.
3:49 PM
@Aibobot That's a humorous and pertinent link, for example one quote from the article: "MARCH1 (Membrane Associated Ring-CH-Type Finger 1), for example, should now be labeled MARCHF1 to stop Excel from changing it to 1-Mar.".
that's why I linked it :D
@JohnDvorak people use whatever tools come to hand :D
I wonder if it was just coincidence ....
AIbobot must have a positronic brain.

4:27 PM
@Magisch last book I bought (right before lockdown actually) was the Elric Saga. I just like real books, ebooks are great for reference but not if I am going to spend several hours reading them
Love this series so finding the complete set was awesome
And yes, the owner tried to stop me from buying them because she hadn't finished reading the whole series yet (she only relented because she had another copy of the last book....but she really wanted to keep a full set)
"Don't you want to sell books and make money?" "That's not the type of operation we're running here."
4:51 PM
@LinkBerest If you use an eReader you can read it in the bathtub or at the beach (waterproof) and the books are less expensive (usually), in that case 1/5th the cost. Hardcover is excellent for collecting on a bookshelf, rare and expensive books, but eBooks are (usually) more budget friendly - rarely they are more expensive. The electronic format also has additional features such as search, bookmarks, notes ...
@Rob hmm..oh, I mean in my case in specific I get headaches if I read online articles and stuff too much (cause usually I've also been coding or typing documentation all day too)
The eReader is a different screen than a monitor. My eyes need a break from LED and OLED (my phone) too.
same, still get migraines pretty easily if I try reading books on eReaders after a long day at work (note: I do use them but just when I'm not working) but I take meds so I can even function during the daylight (instead of having a constant migraine) so I know I'm a special case :)
5:07 PM
mine is not the standard case (and I don't really want to go into it anymore) but is due to injury - E-ink I know about and it is great but it doesn't help in my case
Try spending a few hours a day reading .PDFs on a cellphone, with one eye, through a magnifying glass.
Subject dropped.
@LinkBerest Many many years ago I had a copy of every Moorcock book ...
@Rob Thanks :)

Ryan Donovan on August 06, 2020
The React community grew organically thanks to its instant popularity. Here’s how the folks shepherding that community ensure that everyone who wants to contribute is welcome to.
6:26 PM
Is that a review, or preliminary opinion?
final outcome
it's just a puff piece. there was nothing stopping people from getting into react and being part of the community, certainly not a year ago, and it's certainly not somehow better now due to anything mentioned in the article.
6:41 PM
Sad part is I like React (from what I've used of it over Vue, Angular, and Ember) but that piece is just hard to read
was the community somehow... defunct before a year ago?
you know, during a time where it was also wildly popular
I don't know why they focus on React that seems to be more of a "Women who code piece" (which is fine its just confusing when mixed with the React stuff - is it "look at this cool female dev & some of the stuff she did" or "React community stunk and she fixed it"?)
where are the changes, what was the big "thing", or "key components" to... whatever the article is insinuating happened over the last year?
6:56 PM
@user400654 They had some problems with meeting release dates in 2018 but I don't know if that is what the article is referencing (I don't remember the community being any different back then - but then I only use it to build drilldowns and mostly just use ploty/d3 anyway so.... shrug)
