5 years in the family business, 7 months at a VFX company (they closed down) - long break looking for work 3 months at a casino doing IT, then 4 months doing support at a small school... quit (cultural differences? It was a bit dodgy)

Not quite generic (you ordinarily don't see that much RAM and that kind of CPU in a fanless configuration), but the convenience is I don't have to build a noisy box just to run a bunch of VMs with a bunch of ad-hoc scripts.

The desktop one could more than handle my minecraft server, a couple debian instances that run node for some ad-hoc monitoring and reporting stuff I currently run from digital ocean, and having a Windows 10 VM would be nice.

What kind of minecraft server is that @TimPost?

Well, I'll give it a think, and look into the perks of what I could get out of sourcing / building my own box but I am pretty darn sure anything I come up with is going to be a little loud.

fanless is a big perk for home office.

Most stuff's not using server 'lite' components - most of what I've looked at are NUC class machines

(so more or less a laptop in a cube)

I bet it keeps coffee warm, too.

yes, thaum6. but i stopped short of golems/infusion and switched over to blood magic, it felt a bit too tedious

blood magic rituals are pretty powerful, and with the tinkering tool, are easy to hide
