@bro just curious - is there any way you could prioritise/watch out for more recent "offensive" comments?
(since if they're recent, we can... actually do more than delete them, and that is a net win)

Q: Heat Detector - analysing comments to find heat

Petter FribergGeneral Heat detector is a StackApp whose goal is to catch offensive, rude, snarky comments, and comments that leads to abusive content (offensive, spam posts, or previous offensive comments). It is running a bot that queries comments from the Stack Exchange API and retrieves all comments posted...

@Catija re meta.stackexchange.com/questions/309587/what-exactly-is-meta: this guy asked an off-topic question here on Meta. This post is a rant about it. Read the whole post to get a better idea of it.

I know. But most of the text is identical between the two. It's still not a question.
Honestly, it looks like some sort of weird spam seed.

Don't believe so.
On the other hand, anyone get the news that ABBA is once again producing music as of yesterday?

The Rorschach test is a psychological test in which subjects' perceptions of inkblots are recorded and then analyzed using psychological interpretation, complex algorithms, or both. Some psychologists use this test to examine a person's personality characteristics and emotional functioning. It has been employed to detect underlying thought disorder, especially in cases where patients are reluctant to describe their thinking processes openly. The test is named after its creator, Swiss psychologist Hermann Rorschach. In the 1960s, the Rorschach was the most widely used projective test. Although the...

How to iron clothes without an iron: just use a hot laptop

Or just buy clothes that don't need ironing.

user202362
@SonicWizard use large drier, it seems to flatten the clothes if you don't have many in one

user202362
put clothes in the drier wet then get them out as soon as the drier stops and hang them out on clothes hangers

I actually noticed this effect when I put my laptop on my bed. The wrinkles were disappearing from the bed sheet in the spots where I put my laptop.
(That said, my laptop usually runs cool - I was running a resource-intensive task)

And they're back.

both talentless.com and talentless.net are taken, otherwise I was going to get one for my new adventure - talentless.net, your bargain bin for developers, start from 99c

tbh though
The push to get more people into STEM has led to some people who really don't enjoy software dev to take it up

user315433
Same with math. It doesn't lead anywhere good.

user315433
@bro nuking as R/A was too much, though. Mod-flagged to reconsider.

user202362
even talent4less.com is taken

user202362
people need to stop hoarding ffs

6:29 AM
hah
I actually think that specific fields trending is something as old as, well work.
The big issue is really they both want lots of STEM folk and they want them cheap and they want them ...
ya...

There have been a lot of people in my college who changed majors from STEM to liberal arts

user202362
if you are going to end up serving burger and potato nudgets you might as well save some effort doing liberal arts instead

@JourneymanGeek In vocational school maybe 3 out of 25 people wanted to be there
All the others were like "Because programming is in demand ... I guess"

@user5389107 That's pretty much the theme of the "3 Idiots" film; I strongly recommend watching it

6:38 AM
@user5389107 and you're competing with many many people who think the same everywhere

setting yourself up for utter misery, that is
Then you start your first programming job and suddenly realize oh wait I hate doing this but now I'm stuck in it

hah
or you end up in management

or that
The husband of my aunt keeps pushing me to become a project manager

and for a good many people that's the goal
Well, what do you actually love about what you do?

not project management

Assuming you're one of the 12% of coders who actually likes to code

I like the logic puzzles that I can solve on a daily basis. Turning requirements into an implementation. I also like the variety that comes from doing everything in the chain from backend design to UI design with user input
It feels nice to look at a problem and go "yeah I can solve this" and then actually do it

ah
lol
that sounds like exactly what I love about the other end of tech ;p

ah hah!
That's the problem

Singapore law is ass backwards and I can't adopt that easily.

@YvetteColomb my pleasure! :P
Self title: @Yve's Fun Boy ;)

So its probably simpler to get a pup (so we can handle local breed-flat laws)
and it would need to be a small breed, and something like a mini snauzer westie or a soft coated wheaten
(smart, high energy is actually semi fine)
and I dislike poodles ;p

7:53 AM
@JourneymanGeek yeah, who knows maybe by then you'll already have kids and decide you don't "need" a new dog. :)

heh
One does not need a dog.
;p
but its a pretty important part of our lives for now ;)

not need... feel like having a dog... ugh.

and ugh

you know what I mean! :)

practically ... er...
It might be useful, yes

@JourneymanGeek :D

@YvetteColomb so your plans to take over australia with the horse army are still stalling

I just love making awful puns

@JourneymanGeek In Israel many non-religious people prefer to not get married at all, due to strict religion-related marriage rules, and even worse weird and strict rules about how to be divorced. But still... most people do it anyway, even non religious like me. :)

Which i respect

@ShadowWizard it's usually always lush and green there. Tilba. The south coast is green. In fact as @TelKitty said, coastal australia is green and much of the inland is also.. depends where you go and of course drought will affect that, but that's also not constant

Wahroonga is a suburb on the Upper North Shore of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia, 22 kilometres north-west of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of Ku-ring-gai Council and Hornsby Shire. == History == Wahroonga is an Aboriginal word meaning our home. In the early days of the British colonisation of New South Wales, the main activity was cutting down the tall trees which grew there. Wahroonga was first colonised by the British in 1822 by Thomas Hyndes, a convict who became a wealthy landowner. Hyndes's land was later acquired by John Brow...

St Ives is a suburb on the Upper North Shore of Sydney in the state of New South Wales, Australia 18 kilometres north of the Sydney Central Business District in the local government area of Ku-ring-gai Council. St Ives Chase is a separate suburb, to the north. == History == The St Ives area was first explored by Governor Arthur Phillip and a party of men in 1788 where they set up a campsite at Bungaroo which is close to what is now Hunter Avenue. @YvetteColomb yeah... well, at least you got the memories. Guess better than nothing. :)

@ShadowWizard meh - memories are overrated.. I prefer the present ;)

user202362
not too familiar with St Ives, generally stayed close to train lines or inner city because uni/work

user310756
St Ives is very central - that much closer to everything than Wahroonga

user310756
9:08 AM
25 mins drive to the city

user310756
close to the beach

user310756
Wahroonga was just that bit more painful - particularly in peak hour

user202362
except parking in the city cost $30 hour per hour during working days :/ ... even long term parking is costly and peak hour traffic congestion is ... terrible

user310756
there's still horse paddocks in St Ives, I had my horses 2 min from our apartment, but the set up was not good - so I moved then to Belrose

9:10 AM
@TelKitty so ride on a horse to work/uni and back.
Install lights on the horse as well, so you can ride at evening if you work/learn late. ;)

user310756
@TelKitty I wouldn't work in the city - I only work from home. But it is handy - I've mainly been in there to go to the Opera House. Or when I was hanging around with that man (who will remain nameless) we would take the kids into town - the Botanical Gardens, walk around the city - have lunch/dinner in there, walk under the Harbour Bridge, go for boat rides..

user202362
@ShadowWizard I used to drive to uni, but nowadays they have developed the area, student nowadays have to fork out $10-$20 a day for parking, which is a lot to students. I couldn't afford it back in my uni days.

@πάνταῥεῖ ohhhh... Is this "Dexter Meeting Sheldon" twist? ;)
He would totally kill him, lol.... :P

user310756
@ShadowWizard horses have the right of way on all the roads here - except they're not allowed on the freeways. But many car drivers do not realise the roads rules. My friend and I would ride our horses through St Ives - crossing the round-a-bout at Link Road - you know Link Road @TelKitty? The traffic was generally pretty good and would come to a complete stand still while we road through there (it was busy) - but then in the back streets there'd always be some hoon

@TelKitty so what you do? Bus?

9:14 AM
The killer of the newbz murderer :-)

user310756
@TelKitty when I went to Syd Uni I would use public transport - when I was older and went back, I'd drive in, but we had money so it wasn't an issue

user202362
@YvetteColomb yeah, but I was working in finance IT, most higher paid jobs in the field were mostly in the city. P.S. more variety of food and lunch is a lot cheaper than else where in Sydney

user202362
@ShadowWizard I parked on the street near uni, the area wasn't developed then, a lot of free parking

user310756
@TelKitty I'd love having yum cha at China Town when I worked in the city - whenever I worked in the city I'd get bus or train, depending on where I lived.

user310756
that was pre-children

9:15 AM
@TelKitty oh, nice!
@πάνταῥεῖ rofl

user310756
I've spent most of my life in Sydney - I don't miss it. I enjoy driving and not having to worry about cops and speed cameras.

user310756
I'll alwasy keep real estate in Syd - it's so expensive and at least my kids have housing near the city

@YvetteColomb heh, in Israel they put speed cameras everywhere by now. Think most roads where you can (technically) drive fast now got cameras. Probably it became the main income method for the police, which has pretty low budget, so can't blame them. :)

user202362
when I worked in the CBD, I usually go to hunter connection or this dungeon food court place under townhall - they sell cheap lunch - can't afford go to fancy place for lunch everyday lol

user310756

9:20 AM
lol

user310756
@ShadowWizard yep - have to be careful driving on the freeways, particularly during school holidays - but apart from that Aust is too big for speed cameras every where or decent roads for that matter

touché @yvette

user310756
@TelKitty oh yeh - the Hunter Connection.

What car you have? How fast can it drive? @Yve ;)

user310756
@πάνταῥεῖ it jsut came on my fb feed made me smile

user202362
9:22 AM
but good thing about working in the city is that I used to have a lot of uni friends who also work there and some other friends ... and I was living by myself at the time, so I could catch up with friends so very often, lol

user310756
@ShadowWizard top speed limit in our state is 110km/h there are some parts of the country there is no speed limit, but mostly it is tied down to 110 or 100

user310756
in the built up areas it will range from 40 - 60 km/h

user310756
@TelKitty yeh pre-children we'd often go out after work.

@YvetteColomb buh not talking about law... how fast can your car go? Did you ever reach it? ;)

user310756
@ShadowWizard god no. Why on earth would I try that? I could kill someone - including myself - risk losing my licence immediately and possibly end up in prison

9:25 AM
@YvetteColomb I believe germany is one of the rare countries in the world where's (theoretically) no speed limit on highways.

Sometimes I'm not so sad that I can't drive

user310756
I've never travelled on a speed limitless road and the roads that don't have speed limits cut through the desert and have kangaroos jumping across the roads unpredictably - it pays to have bull bars and possibly a cage across the windscreen - though many cars don't.. a red kangaroo will go straight through the windscreen and kill everyone if they're hit - they're big kangaroos

user202362
Back then I thought I was making decent salary, other people thought so too. It looks good when you working in one of the tallest buildings and travelling business class. But looking back, my asset back then was so miniscule, lol

user310756
@πάνταῥεῖ yep and good roads, so it's safer

user310756
@TelKitty which building?

9:26 AM
@YvetteColomb Questionable

user310756
@user5389107 none of my kids drive yet - they're not keen.. I was driving from a teenager - couldn't wait. Used to ride motorbikes and ride horses

@YvetteColomb small cars can reach "only" 150 km/h which on a highway can be considered slow, as @πάνταῥεῖ mentioned in places with no speed limit.... :)

@YvetteColomb I actually can't since my eyesight is messed up

user202362
@YvetteColomb suncorp

user310756
@user5389107 sorry to hear

user310756
9:27 AM
@TelKitty where's that?

But ordinary cars these days can reach 200 or so, so yeah... probably too much even in "no limit" roads.

user202362
near wynyard station

user310756
ah George Street

user310756
yep

@ShadowWizard I said "theoretically" for good reasons. I'd rather use the Nürburgring for production.

9:29 AM
@TelKitty yep it's right near where the buses would travel to the northern beaches

@πάνταῥεῖ yeah... here the limit is 100 in most highways, with 2 highways allowing 120. (km/h)

user202362
going for jogging (albeit still sick)

Speed camera has 10% margin, so left lane average speed is 130. Many drive in much higher speed... somehow there are almost no accidents.

user310756
the fastest cars I've owned were a BMW 330i and an Alpha Romeo 166 (that was totally built in Italy - the BMW was built in South africa)

@ShadowWizard There are quite a lot traversals with no speed limit at all, but the traffic rate is to high anyways so you can drive max 150-160 most of the time.

user310756
9:31 AM
@TelKitty oh wow - take care - it's gotten cold really quickly - the transition was quick

user310756
@ShadowWizard they don't give us leeway with speed camera readings, unless you can prove it needed maintenance

@Yve BTW did you see my request at FB?

user310756
@πάνταῥεῖ nope you sent it to the wrong account. I got locked out of my account and could never get back in. Painful. So it's sitting there.

Let's manage that via mail then.

@YvetteColomb no leeway, think it's something technical or with law, someone proved the camera isn't 100% accurate.
(e.g. if speed camera says one drove 121 km/h his actual speed was "only" 115)

9:35 AM
@YvetteColomb yanno? That's me most of the time. other than the bra part.
;p

We've got smiley faces at almost all urban roads

@JourneymanGeek replace "bra" with "tight boxers" then....... :P

:-) => Good Boy :-( => Bad Boy

user310756
@ShadowWizard yeh we haven't had that precedent yet

user310756
@JourneymanGeek lol

9:37 AM
@πάνταῥεῖ huh! We have this only on "non official" speed cameras, those which don't give punishment. The official cameras have no sense of humor. :(

(also one of these days I need to make not of when i can correlate having a bad day with MSE repcaps ;p)

user310756

@YvetteColomb weird...

user310756
@JourneymanGeek really??

@ShadowWizard "no sense of humor. " The one near my flat even says thank you in bavarian, if you were within the speed limit.

9:39 AM
LOL

user310756
@ShadowWizard well there's been a couple of friends who have gotten out of tickets - one managed to prove it was faulty - I don't know how she did it.. the other - he worked on the camera (an engineer) and was able to show it needed calibrating (but he was speeding)

@YvetteColomb oh... so this might mean other cameras need the same calibrating, and since they didn't get one, all past tickets are void... no?
Think same happened here, and instead of spending time and money on calibrating the cameras on regular basis, they added that margin.

We have a general margin of %20 with speed cameras

user310756
@ShadowWizard meh - no precendents

user310756
meh I was pulled over by the cops - 8 km/h above the limit. Got a ticket. That's ridiculous in my book

9:44 AM
Having a tempomat (auto speed) for this is great. You can calibrate it exactly within the margin :-D

user310756
if anyone wants to watch videos of my horses

This one is particularly cute.

user310756
@πάνταῥεῖ that mare, Cleo, was given to me. She was totally starved. I love her to death.

user310756

yep I know

Q: How to care for a severe wound on horses leg

Yvette ColombCleo came to me in bad shape 7th October 2016. To everyone's distress (including hers), she had a horrific injury on 9th April, 2017. We could not find the cause of the injury, which is disturbing. So we moved her to a new agistment as soon as we could. She cut her front leg through to the bone...

user310756
She's such a good girl.

user310756
My pregnant mare wouldn't let me touch her when she arrived, she didn't like people.. She was covered in dozens of bites from other horses being trucked around - she was underweight. She now follows me around like a dog.

@YvetteColomb Plot twist: Chris's cup has a higher bottom, so the volume of liquid they hold ends up being the same.

Q: What to feed an underweight, heavily pregnant young horse?

Yvette ColombWe're getting our girl at end of next week, at which time she will be 8.5 months pregnant. She's a 3yo standardbred 14 3hh. She's currently on oaten hay - there's no grazing. I'll be moving her to an acreage with plenty of grass - there will be 3 other horses, I'll close off a gate, they'll have...

user310756
@SonicWizard O>O that is a plot twist

Plot twist. Jennifer drinks her coffee. Then kills chris with her cup Then drinks his coffee.

user310756
OMG - the plot thickens

user310756
That post ^^ above is the pregnant mare I keep posting. she looks so much better

@JourneymanGeek Uncomfy boxers today?
:3

Other reasons for grumpiness ;)
