@Barry naah its not harsh at all ... a little tough love will make shweta more SO-wary
though i've stop replying to OP's like her. Its easy to identify a leech, and i just end up ignoring 'em

@Benjol Firefox 4, I built it there. Too lazy to convert all the properties to their webkit equivalent, hehe
But yes, I'll do that now

@YiJiang, yeah, I was kind of surprised in worked in ffx 3.6 but not in whatever version of chrome I'm on

maps.baidu.com is such a shameless copy of google maps.
but their 3D view is so amazing

@Reno Not entirely realistic, meh
Actually, not even close to realistic I'd say

yeah kinda cartoonish reminds me of age of empires

10:12 AM
Too cartoonish I'd say, the colors really isn't helping
Chinese cities have far fewer bright colors and are a lot more gritty

yup ... from what ive seen on tv
age of empires screenshot

Urglglglglglgl
I want to sleep but waiting on AWS things to happen
w3counter was slow so I added another web server behind its elastic load balancer, waiting 40 minutes so far to spin up a new RDS database instance from a snapshot

10:34 AM
Not wanting to be xenophobic or anything, but what is it with a certain eastern population and the Shift key?!

@Benjol One of the hypothesis I've seen on Meta is that they learnt their English from the internet, so that's how they, uh, think English should be written

script kiddies have a lot to answer for then :)

I believe that they learnt their english from sms-ing

The SE engine just makes it far too hard to close dupes
The two have near identical title for goodness sake!

Just looking at this make my adrenalin shoot up

10:46 AM
@YiJiang, hihi, 430, what are you up to?

@Benjol Hmmm?

flag score

@Benjol Already got my Deputy badge ;)

500?

Yup :P

10:48 AM
I didn't know there was a badge. sigh, that's gonna keep me at it even longer. My code gently weeps.
@YiJiang close love required: stackoverflow.com/questions/5163387/…

@Benjol XOXO given

I don't know how hi-rep users can answer questions like this without editing them a tiny bit...

@Benjol ansa quickz - I needz tha repz :)

Hi! :)

@Barry, my rep has been stagnating for a while, I actually now do more reviewing and editing, there just aren't that many interesting questions that I know how to answer which haven't already got answers

11:01 AM
@Benjol Yeah I've been stuck, rather annoyingly, around the 8k mark for a while. I'm in the C# / SQL / JavaScript gang which is massive so if I'm not uber quick then I have no chance. I get few accepted answers from crystal reports now and again

bug is a bug

@Reno, what's the bug?

wait what
isnt that supposed to be the rep ?
>_<

Rep for the week...

ah ok
my b

11:05 AM
@Reno, that made me think the first time too :)

Firefox 3: the best browser to get a real browser fast.

that is interesting, jon skeet makes 1k per week easily

11:25 AM
@badpssockpuppet You have Firefox 3!!? Brilliant, I'm still stuck with IE6 in school

@YiJiang The perfect browser to download a portable copy of Chromium with.
or Firefox.

11:45 AM
this is kinda funny
> your nice question

@Reno WTF?

maybe he just wanted that commentator badge, but probably not

That needs flagging, I'd say - anyone?

@Benjol I think he's going for the commentator badge

@YiJiang, but that's a bit abusive isn't it? I'm tempted to flag one of his questions and call a mod in, what do you think?
That or flag each of the comments
as noise

11:53 AM
@Benjol Doing that right now on the first question the chain of flags appeared on

@YiJiang, ok
@Reno, how'd you stumble on that?

@Reno your nice chat

@Benjol i just happened to see three questions with the same comment by the same user. :)

@Benjol Glad I stopped commenting on that previous OP question

@YiJiang HEHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! wicked laugh, I caught up with you...

You may now address me as Deputy Benjol, or just Deputy :)
@YiJiang LOL :)

@Barry your nice nice :)

A: Is there a way to distinguish real good questions from tons of crap?

ircmaxellI like the concept of a super vote. However, it also could be quite dangerous as +10 to a bad question could be bad... So here's some thoughts around that: Perhaps +10 is too much, What about +5? It's still a good boost, but it's more reasonable to the community as a whole. I would absolutel...

^^ Thoughts?

@ircmaxell your nice... I think I should stop that now. Well, the supervote idea has cropped up a fair number of times on MSO before, I think both sides of the arguments are pretty hashed out. It's pretty much from the POV of the team I believe

Ahh, ok...

@YiJiang your nice!!! haha!!

12:06 PM
@ircmaxell Dunno, I find it hard to get excited about it either way.

Yeah, it's ripe for abuse, but could be usable as well... So I dunno

spent waaaaay too much time messing about today.
I'm off for a nice lunch

12:48 PM
yawn Good morning everyone

@TheRenamedException your nice good morning

@YiJiang yes, true
Well here's hoping it will be good, heh

@TheRenamedException (look above at all the 'nice' messages :P)
It was a user spamming the comment 'your nice question' on a bunch of questions to get the commenter badge

oh heh
I just woke up, you expect me to do work now? ;-)

your nice exception

12:52 PM
I like The Nice Exception as a new possible name for myself :-)

1:11 PM
@TheNiceException, what's the status script do?

@Benjol Or rather, what's the status on the status script? ;)

@YiJiang, no, actually I don't even know what it does :) Or what it's supposed to do
I just saw rooms about it

1:40 PM
@Benjol does your "review assistant" need to flag as you comment, or can I just use it to comment?

@badpssockpuppet No, flagging is left to the discretion of the user

Does it work on /review only?

Actually in the near future I'm probably going to rename it to remove references to reviewing
@badp, it works anywhere

\o/
I'll install it then.

please, ask these questions on the script page, that way I can answer them for other people who may be wondering
All it does is save you from retyping the same comments all the time
So you could potentially use it for commenting on anything.

1:42 PM
It feels human to write a custom message to each and every passer-by on the site... but gets kinda tiresome in the long run.

Actually, it also helps me to remember my own 'policies' on each of the main review cases
@badp, after a few days use, I'd say that in 30% of cases I hand tune the comment anyway. There are quite a few cases that aren't covered by those 6 comments
aka "user finds answer and provides it in very low quality form"
@badp, feedback welcome, anyway... forget what I said earlier, I'm going to edit my answers into the presentaiton of the script

Oh okay. I'd already written the post but Q&A in an answer is really silly

@badp, take a look now, see if it's any clearer, or if it's tl;dr now

1:58 PM
hrm, I messed up :)

@badp how?

I accidentally saved an empty comment
Readding text in the span#desc-2.action-desc with the inspector doesn't impress the script

@badp, hit reset
gotta go now

2:03 PM
Morning

@badp listen, do you know how these faq questions are tagged? stackoverflow.com/tags/google-app-engine/faq

@badp are they automagically tagged?

and when I click on Martin's avatar, it's showing this
=> link to dba.SE
and it's linking to apple.SE user page for everybody else

@systempuntoout Could it be they're sorted by question links?
I don't know for sure.

2:05 PM
@badp tried to search on meta some hints but failed

@LoïcWolff I get dba too.
@systempuntoout The top hits have 5 questions in the linked list; the one next has 4

@badp makes sense

@badpssockpuppet So what's your diagnosis? Bug? Should I report?

you'll see here: chat.stackexchange.com/users/609/martin-marconcini his parent user is from DBA.
@LoïcWolff Sorry, I was wrong. It shows DBA because his parent user is DBA and he lacks an Apple account.

Hi everybody
I have a question: How would one attract the attention of potentially interested Greasemonkey gurus on a feature request which could use a user script while waiting official implementation?

Duh! facepalm
I should have thought that there would be a way to do a request
thanks @TheRenamedException

Hmm, wait isn't StackApps a way to advertise already developed userscript?
In this case, the only I see is to let a message in their chat

Or one that's in developemt, I believe... Maybe I am wrong

I wouldn't be able to write a Greasemonkey script to save my life...

2:17 PM
Good Morning!

Well I guess I could already make a search and see if there is any available by any chance

Morning @Fosco. I owe you an email; my apologies, I've been so busy

no worries..
had 2 interviews go really well yesterday with a telecommute job I found on careers.stackoverflow.

Q: Sorting related accounts by reputation

EldrosMore and more sites are coming into the SE family. As such, when going into the accounts tab of some users, there is sometimes quite a big number of associated accounts. Until now, they are displayed in a random "arbitrary" order, but it could be useful to be able to sort them by reputation, to s...

That's the feature for which I would like a userscript by the way
(There isn't much activity on the StackApps chat...)

@Eldros That's it? that's all? I could do that pretty easily

Hum yeah... that's it.

I have a Town Hall Chat Digest to post, but I may take a quick crack at that later
If nobody else does

I wouldn't be able to evaluate the effort to develop a GreaseMonkey script...

@eldros that's better Thant most tech clients.
They can't either, but they don't know it.
"You can easily add sorting to that output, right?"
-everyone's client

2:45 PM
@Moshe I know what you mean

Why in the hell are all my machines having issues this morning? >_<

3:09 PM
What to do with this review of Nippon?
"Needs more longer contents please"
Not sure what the reviewer is asking for.

That is a very helpful review

@Moshe "Your game is too short."

status-bydesign

@Fosco hey. Where have you been hiding?
@badp I hear that. Perhaps offer 60 and 90 day games?

@Moshe I haven't played myself, so I have no idea.

3:17 PM
@Moshe Hey... working hard on finding new employment, building some personal projects, doing a little freelancing. Thanks for noticing, lol :)
@Moshe I think I've tested the latest version and sent you comments re: the ipad version.

You have.
I got feedback at the Apple Store from an employee. He had some good ideas. More on the way. ;-)

wow, that's great!

@badp Fosco is right. Its a design thing.
Yep @Fosco. Good luck on your job search.

@Moshe Thank you

The original game had 30 day games. The iOS copycats all have more though.

3:22 PM
@Moshe egads no. If anything offer a speed version, how much can you raise in 15 days
Stretching it out to 60 or 90 is going to kill gameplay. It's not intend to be a 2 hour game, just something to kill 10 minutes with
And for the 15 day version, lose the funizushi?

I still want to get it translated, though not till the iPad UI is out.

Yeesh. Giving WYSIWYG editors to end users is a terrible idea.
3

@drach point taken.

Also, if you can do so, disable the button on the homescreen if no save game exists

toying around with html5 canvas and drawing isometric tiles.. first example: fosco.com/canvas

3:24 PM
Nice

doesn't seem to work in IE, even with excanvas.js

"I think my site content pops more with 72pt font on lime green background."

@mootinator Tell me about it. And this is my company's primary product. LOL

Yikes.

We have actually started requiring that we implement the design for our clients' home pages because they made them so uuuuugly!

3:26 PM
@drachenstern what about a free trial, "Nippon Extreme"? A 10 day game with no funazushi and no Sushizushi. And a smaller debt cap.
And less locations.

keep the debt cap. lower the frequency of the funazushi. put back the original algo where sushizushi don't get selected (I know it was a BUG but make it a FEATURE) for reduced prices and extreme limits

</spec-sheet>
yeah right

keep the locations
but yeah, do that for 10 days instead of 30
and lose the save game on the 10 day version

Ah finding items can be limited. Good point.

I mean, ffs, it's 10 days

3:28 PM
The save game is By design.

I know, and you can disable it on the home screen for the 10 day version
just remove that entry, and whenever you check for a savegame on that screen, override it
keep the logic tho, less to maintain

Hmm, could someone enlighten about the game you are all talking about?

and keep your algo's side by side in your main branch, just comment out the blocks for the 10day version in the main branch

"Nippon: Game of the Year Edition"

@Eldros his game "Nippon" which is a reminiscent version of the old Drugwars

3:30 PM
@Eldros Moshe wrote an iOS app, Nippon, a clone of the old 'drug-wars' trading game.

It's pretty damned addictive, I've got a top score of roughly twice the other leaderboard high-score

it's quite awesome

No wonder I don 't find any hit in google

you posted an image didn't you?

@Eldros I did :/
gmail?

That or I wait to be home.

3:33 PM
Heh. Thanks folks. Just got sidetracked by am iPad 2 conversation. The Apple event is in a few hours.
@drachenstern - you could just announce your score. I think it's incredible.

@Moshe that involves typing and I'm lazy

I thought we had established that already

1,649,458,814

I really think I'll have to come again once I am home and I have time

@Fosco beat me to it.

Q: Hello world ASCII art

Nyuszika7HDraw Hello world to the screen with the smallest possible code. Sample input helloworld Sample output ** ** ********** ** ** ********** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ********** *...

@eldros, please do. And tell your friends and family, please: Nippon for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.

@Eldros yeah, we're all the time hanging out in here. The individual user pages show our usage histograms on chat if you want to find a particular individual

@Nyuszika7H figlet "$1"

3:37 PM
@Moshe How would you describe your game in short, so I can pass the word?

Gotta go study Talmud. (shoulda been there thirty minutes ago) be back soon.

@TheRenamedException what language?

@Nyuszika7H Bash:

How about Nippon for iOS developer tools?

3:38 PM
#!/bin/sh
figlet "$1"

@eldros a classic turn based trading game for iOS

@TheRenamedException do I need that #!/bin/sh if I run the shell directly?

@Moot yeah right. I can send a strings file if you know any non English languages.

@Nyuszika7H no, that would be if you were saving as a shell script
@Nyuszika7H figlet.org

@TheRenamedException Ok, I'll install Ubuntu 10.10 and try it out, though I don't think such a short solution would be acceptable.

3:40 PM
I thought the point of Code Golf was shorter? :-p

command line would probably be figlet "Hello World" amiright?

But, I don't play Code Golf, so
@Eldros actually I think it's echo "Hello World" | figlet

@Moshe Je peux traduiser au mauvais Francais.

@mootinator traduire
oh, sorry didn't see the point you tried to make

@Eldros Lol, I was going to ask if you had read the rest of the sentence ;)

3:42 PM
@mootinator at first no
I had to report the mistake
Couldn't help it

Thanks :)

Shows you mastered your bad French.
(not difficult btw)

I've been away from actual French for almost 20 years, so yeah.

It is not a big loss
I mean French People doesn't want anything to do with "foreigners" in general

@Eldros Heh.

3:46 PM
Try asking anything in English in Paris
for example

@Eldros Paris is not France. Paris is Paris

In Montreal they just roll their eyes and speak English at you if you ask something in bad French.

Even French don't like Parisian :p

@LoïcWolff true that
btw @drachenstern I received the picture

3:47 PM
@LoïcWolff Hah.

nice GUI

@Eldros that's the gui for gamecenter :p
or are you looking at the app?

No I'm looking at the screenshot

the one I sent was of the gamecenter... that's iOS

oh alright...
Shows how much I know. heh.
