2:00 PM
I just tried that in the console and it works.

or even interestedTags.indexOf("&")

Let's see what you've done.. :P

@Benjol That won't work - Array.indexOf is for matching array elements, not like how String.indexOf work

@YiJiang, oops. sorry :)

@YiJiang are you sure it's not this part that fails?
$('#user_' + badges[i].user.user_id + ' .badge_list .' + badges[i].name.replace(/\s/g, ''))
that puts the ampersand into the selector

2:01 PM
@balpha No, that's... oh

@balpha Aww, I was just about to say that. :)

Me too! :)

Hey, so was I :P Joking, of course

@MarcGravell I get logged out of chat.SE pretty regularly now. :/
Was working fine for so long too.

sigh. What is it going to take for me to convince that code to work?

2:04 PM
Wow, the diamond mods are out in force, what have we done? cowers

@MarcGravell A bigger hammer, perhaps. ;)

@Benjol we all just came to see you

@MarcGravell did you try saving?
2

@badp LOL

I said "saving", not "kicking"
:P

2:05 PM
oh, my bad

@MarcGravell You aren't trying to program .NET code in JavaScript, right? ;)

@TimStone funnily enough, I did fix a bug that did exactly that earlier today...

(I wasn't really kidding, so many times I was looking at a program's code and at its behaviour being inexplicably different no matter how many times I'd try to nudge it, only to recognize that either I didn't save it or I was saving it to the wrong place.)

I wish I could give you more useful debug information, but it seems to happen randomly. :/
@MarcGravell Apparently it's quite prevalent then. Ah, the spoils of such a feature-rich platform, heheh.

2:08 PM
@TimStone that bug (now fixed, waiting on a build) is why pages with the chat ad are displaying "Jan 4"

Aye. ;)
@MarcGravell Also, if it's fixed, feel free to add this post to your collection of [status-completed] s, if you feel so inclined. :)

@GeorgeStocker, makes you look good anyway, lots of lovely green :)

@Benjol I don't understand.

The badges

2:11 PM
@TimStone darnit, fixed in parallel. I could have saved myself some debugging if I'd seen that earlier

I don't see anything under 'noteworthy badges'

@MarcGravell been there, done that

whistles innocently

@GeorgeStocker Sometimes the thing fails to load. Actually, not surprising, given how many jsonp requests there are

Jan 10 at 20:34, by balpha
@TimStone could you please scream "I HAVE A FIX FOR THIS" when you, well, have a fix for something? This is the second time that after fixing an issue when going through dupes to find everything to tag [status-completed], I find an answer by you that had already debugged the issue

2:12 PM
Some of them are bound to fail / timeout

Out of curio, what is the distinction between getDay() and getDate() that you are looking for? i.e. what is your desired whimsical result?

@MarcGravell The actual day of the month?
getDay() gives you the day of the week.

@MarcGravell Are you talking about JavaScript?

what is it returning now?
ah
that too
righto

That's why it says Jan 4 :P

2:15 PM
The TotalSeconds wasn't helping any

Aye, since that broke the delta, heheh.

speaking of reinventing the wheel, does anyhone have already put a list of very common English words in an easily parsable manner?

Poor little chat ads, getting picked on so much.

it deserves it; you don't want to know how much pain it caused me (/the server) earlier today.
I blame Kevin's "will continue to poll on failure" comment...

@badp You can just parse the transcript for everything we've ever said and build frequencies!
@MarcGravell Uh oh. :P

2:17 PM
@TimStone Thing is, I'm just doing that (only with tags on the site via API) and need to remove the cruft
bad_words = set("quot", "amp", "the", "be", "to", "of", "and", "a", "in", "that",
		"have", "i", "it", "for", "not", "on", "with", "he", "as", "you", "do", "at",
		"this", "but", "his") #etc.

Ah :)
For the record, to avoid blame, I definitely suggested much less taxing alternatives in my post ;)

pushed that change, just for @TimStone (still needs to wait for a build, though)

feels special

is there a relatively small MSO tag you'd like to see a word cloud of? Otherwise I'll go with "chat"

@YiJiang, would you be open to adding the Talkative tag?

2:24 PM
@badp [mobile] only has 30, if you wanted something smaller

@Benjol Well, it's only bronze, but... okay

Well, wait, I don't know what you're looking at

@TimStone I've just added a touch of random.sample, so feel free to choose a larger tag.

@YiJiang I don't think there's any silver equivalent?

Hooray :P

2:25 PM
@Benjol No, but there is the gold 'oy' badge

I have no preference, I'm trying to throw some logging into this code now so I can package up the 1.2 release and be done with this damn thing, heh.

:) oy!
2

yay for deleted users!

@YiJiang, nice, hadn't seen that one :)

2:30 PM
@Benjol balpha's work, I think

@YiJiang, what you working on now? balpha never answered for the api :)
'cos there's a big empty spot that needs filling to the right of the badge list now ;)

@Benjol Yeah, considering what to fill there

don't forget the badge tooltips, if possible
not everyone knows what they mean.

@Benjol Okie dokey

@YiJiang And I'm not sure whether they should be bolded or not. You could always put the tooltip text alongside the badges, that would fill up some space ;)

@YiJiang, and the more I think about it, the more I wonder whether there shouldn't be a disclaimer on the rep/post stat: "Note: this may include bounties"

@GeorgeMarian Why are there so many people who need to be shot for their destructive stupidity? :(

@TimStone You, know...I ask myself that every day. Usually, more than once per day.

I read the other day too that the Patent Office is trying to make good on its promise to reduce backlog by paying even less attention to the crap it passes. Meh.

Mission accomplished.
They are doing a patent swap. A company can get one patent application looked at faster, if they drop another application that they have in the pipeline. That's how huge that backlog is.

2:41 PM
@TimStone, the worst thing about a big backlog is that the only ones who can afford to wait are the ones who have nothing to lose...

I just don't get it. Even if you're really, really in support of patents...some of this stuff is just retarded

@TimStone UG

They should have just opted for a [status-too-stupid] tag.
Backlog cleared!

@TimStone On GitHub can you do a pull request of just one commit?

2:43 PM
@badp Like just one select commit?
Out of many?

@TimStone Yes.
I forked pyStackExchange to make my cloud tool out of it and found a bug with the library. I fixed it in one commit and so I'd like to pull request just that one

> What happened to the Ancient Egyptians? They invented flight, electricity, casinos in the desert shaped like pyramids, and then they started sharing cat videos with everyone. Thus began the stone age. Cat hieroglyphics were just an extension of those cat related videos when there was no more technology. Pass this along as a reminder to your friends that they don't need to follow the path of the Ancients. #CatVideos

@badp Hmm..
I know you can fiddle with the commit range, but I'm not 100% on how that works, one sec.

@drachenstern HAHA
Actually that reminds me...

Note to self: programming until the early morning can in fact run down ones immune system. Coupled with winter weather... Not fun!

2:46 PM
@TimStone Yeah, the problem is the commit isn't the first, but one of many

This morning on CNN the business woman was talking about lolcats. She kept pronouncing that "Loll Cats", like LAWL-KATz"

also github seems wobbly right now

Does everyone say it that way? I reall thought it was L-O-L cats
Like "ell oh ell katz"

@badp Yeah, hm..

@Josh no. I think lawl katz is the proper pronunciation.

2:47 PM
if it helps the one commit is this: github.com/badp/stackcloud/commit/…

@Moshe really?

It's possibly a geographical thing.
Really what? My pronunciation or my immune system?

@Moshe Your pronounciation

@badp Ah, apparently you can't just pick and choose. But you can rebase the commit into a new branch, then only ask for a pull from that branch.

Yep. Really.

2:49 PM
maybe @Tyler or @drachenstern can weigh in on this
Not that I don't believe you @Moshe, it's just that... well, I don't believe you @Moshe ;-)

I bring my experience on the soot forums many moons ago...

@Josh what's the question?

Which actually makes sense, since when you pull there's definitely no way to ignore certain steps of the revision tree.

@drachenstern what is the proper pronunciation of "lolcats"

@TimStone Gotcha, I'm just going to send him a diff :D

2:50 PM
lull cats

@badp That's probably easier :D

@drachenstern again really?

well I stand corrected then.

Google says it could be either.

2:51 PM
that's the only way I've ever heard it

@Moshe google is just a search engine ;)

Me too, but google knows all.

I have only ever said it "L O L cats". LOL is an acrynym, hence I say each letter...

Google is just a search engine? Really?

2:52 PM
but the reason why the alternate is lulz is because of the pronunciation of lol out loud

@drachenstern I still can't believe she said that.

if you say lols, it's pronounced like the first syllable of lollipop
with an s
but lolcat is more like lullcat
lollipop has a hard first syllable
lolcat does not.

@drachenstern I have always said "L O Les", or "Ell Oh Ells"

@YiJiang, I gotta go, you're doing a great job, keep it up. Here is (I think), the pending list :)

why the hell do I know how to present this as an academic topic?

2:53 PM
knew that would get starred. Waits to get unstarred for this conceited thought

@Josh I just say "lawl"

@badp this confuses me ;-)

I don't tend to pronounce my acronyms, unless it's SQL
it's just easier to skip to the actual words ;)

I just laugh if it's really funny. Why say lol? Just laugh!

2:54 PM
@Moshe It may be funny but not that funny :P

I'm EBRN. (Eating Breakfast Right Now)

@drachenstern wait, this also confuses me. So you say "Es Que Ell", or "Sequel"?
Bah. Speaking aloud sucks anyway. Text based chat is where it's at!

es cue ell

isn't really, but is illustrating a point

@drachenstern ok. same here

2:56 PM
@badp I just smile then or give some other normal "traditional" indicator that I appreciate the humor.
To speak everything one is doing. shudders
wonders who this "One" we always speak of is

@Moshe that's why we have twitter

It's amazing how tidying-up, just a little bit, goes a long way to making me feel calmer.

@Moshe you should ask on E.SE ... and mention boobies in the title so it gets closed right away

now what should I make of this comment?
> @balpha, oh - I didn't realize you were a dude :-)

@drachenstern don't provoke him, that's just mean

2:57 PM
@drach to get me started on Twitter. Heh.

@balpha Hahah, WTF?

@Josh lol, what? I was making a joke. You obviously haven't gotten into all the meta comments that I have, and the chatroom over there
I figure after breaking 400 points (shows on flair) that I should be a little more involved

@Josh it's fine. I'm not "pro-mean", but the best thing is to let it slide.

@drachenstern sorry, forgot to add a ;-)

Oh, he must mean "one of those dev guys" :P
For a second I thought he was questioning your gender

2:59 PM
@Josh oh, hahahahah

@TimStone same here, he's not

@drach - I am not following over there.

"dude" being the thingadongdong of occupations, apparently.

Ah well.

@Moshe I was making a snarky comment. Don't mind me, it's just me being me again :-)

2:59 PM
Yeah I'm going with dude being surfertalk

@GeorgeM - you still interested in the python gig?

@Moshe @Moshe are you asking what was resolved or are you asking what the joke is?

@TimStone I figured that :) Still had to smile...

Heheh

3:01 PM
I know what the joke is. I'm just telling you that I am not following the English.SE stuff about that closed question.

So I'm up to 454 on E.SE somehow, so I've got that going for me

@Moshe Sure. I could use some motivation to do something in python. My need for a delicious.com app has come up against that nastiness that is GTK+.

Nice. I finished porting code last night. Gotta write some methods to tie it all together now.

@GeorgeMarian use PyQt. 1000% nicer to work with

Oh, yeah?

3:02 PM
@Moshe ok. I didn't figure you were anymore, I figured you lost interest in it, as most would've done. Just that I was downvoted rather maliciously so took a personal interest in it ;)

Well, if you want shoot me an email and I'll send you a spec. It's Google App Engine so it's all web based.

@Moshe nice, good work

@drach - I didn't vote at all there. I just flagged and moved on.

I'm also one answer upvote away from moving into the top 7 on dba.SE ... I feel all special :D
The top guy is firmly 1000 above me ... so close, yet so far

"First Seder" awaits. (and my phone needs charging.)

3:04 PM
@drachenstern congrats!

@Josh danke schoen

Congrats

I'm over 500 on freerep.stackexchange.com now, I mean programmers.

Late @Moshe!

3:05 PM
didn't @Jin redo the text on the H1 blocks?

@Moshe later

Going now.
But I couldn't resist.

Jin
@drachenstern i haven't
@drachenstern it's on my todo.txt

@Jin that explains it then
thanks for the update

Jin
i have a list of css fixes. in fact they're on a pink sticky note that's on my monitor right now.

3:16 PM
sigh

Jin
because i'm old skool, that's how i roll.

I think you're doing it wrong ...

You're up early, Jin.

Jin
@GeorgeStocker hmm up.. yeah...
can i be up still i haven't been down?

@Jin in that case you're assuredly doing something wrong ... when's normally bedtime?

3:23 PM
Anyone ever dealt with "The Consumers Choice Awards"?

Jin
@drachenstern i normally stay up quite late. but i do take a nap from 7pm-10pm ish.

This is the hack I get to introduce for my code ... le sigh
> Now comes the fun part, because executing a stored procedure that uses table-valued parameters is somewhat trickier than one might think. According to the documentation it should be possible to pass a System.Data.DataTable, System.Data.Common.DbDataReader or an object that derives from IEnumerable as the value of the table-valued parameter.
> Pretty neat, however only the first two options actually work. Jeroen (a colleague) and I have been breaking our brains on this one for quite some time and discovered that the documentation contains a rather nasty error.
> So the best option when using table-valued parameters is passing the data in the form of a datatable. It's a bit of overhead, but it gets the job done pretty well.
on the fly conversion of lists to datatables ... joy

3:42 PM
bah, I can't figure out how to request the second page of results through that library.

@badp Using the SO API?

gives up for today
oh, wait, fetch_page()
this shall do

Working in R and Python at the same time is confusing...

@PopularDemand Edit collision? Just roll it back

3:44 PM
@PopularDemand I'll assume you're on it already and leave you do your magic

@YiJiang Ha! I missed that entirely. I thought the OP intentionally re-broke the nice formatting Pointy did.

Less than a minute between the two, definitely looks like a collision

@YiJiang No, you're right, I just didn't see it at first.

Q: Differences betwen flash and html versions of My Oracle Support

Leigh RiffelIs there anything that the html version of My Oracle Support can't do that the flash version can?

It can suck less.

3:48 PM
LOL

HELLO

GREETINGS TYLER

How's it going?

@TylerChacha Hel好

Hi

3:50 PM
is in an interesting mood. They just fired my QC woman because "they are downsizing". She's the single most valuable person here. What an utter shame. I'm really thinking about going in and telling him to fire me too because I'm going to go look for another job immediately if he keeps me on.

@ircmaxell Sorry to hear that...

Wow, is it really that bad?
How do you value that she was the single most valuable person there?

Yeah. I'm tenically supposed to be her boss. He (the new president) never consulted me about her at all ever. And then he pulls this...

I'm thinking he likes her.

@ircmaxell Psh. "QC." Customers are supposed to pay you, silly!</sarcasm>

3:52 PM
If he's sidestepping the authority that you're supposed to have, then yeah, I would quit too

The amount and quality of work that she does. The amount of errors she saves from the client are astounding (that's why she's the most valuable, everyone else is an idiot, and she stops the client from finding out about it)
is just ranting. I'm so pissed right now that it's not even funny...

Stick up for her then... do what you have to do. You'll be fine either way.

This is odd... is the API reporting incorrect tag badge ranks?

I'm not worried about either of us. I'm worried about the company (yes I am devoted like that). But I'm about to give that up...

@ircmaxell Then it sounds like you need to take an early lunch and go for a drive, then go mull things over, then go talk to the wife, then go back to the office

3:55 PM
no wife (which makes things easier)

@ircmaxell before you go into his office, walk out the door and tell them you have something you need to take care of, you'll be back in a bit
Ok, but still
go cool your head

bbiab

you're emotional right now, and I don't blame you, I would be too
in English Language and Usage on The Stack Exchange Network Chat, 1 min ago, by RegDwight
Cool, I'll give it a try some time. Rchern can do no wrong.
in re: chat scripts @RebeccaChernoff (ping you)

Schnapple¡

does safari support userscripts?

3:57 PM
@drachenstern yes, sortof

@drachenstern Uh oh :P

@YiJiang someone on SE wants to use the SEChatMod

@drachenstern Next time, use: rchern.github.com/StackExchangeScripts
Slightly more user friendly homepage

@YiJiang oooh, thanks. I lifted that off a link someone else had posted
off the cuff thing

I don't remember exactly how but tehre is a way. apple.stackexchange.com maybe?

3:58 PM
@Josh Search "greasemonkey for safari", quite a number of plugins

So greasemonkey then? And the SEChatMod works with greasemonkey natively?
Or does something else need to be done there?
