4:00 AM
uhhh, what happened to the image @drachenstern

@ircmaxell check the history, I only needed the URL

I'm just marking that as [youre-doing-it-wrong]

Nah, it was the fastest way to do it
I'll post the link, that's no problem. I just didn't figure it needed to clutter up chat

fair enough
I don't mind, just busting chops

Can anyone tell me if there is a preferred way to graph the data that comes out of the Data Explorer?

4:04 AM
what data explorer?

@xiaohouzi79 What sort of graphs are you looking for? Also, are you referring to the data dump?

Well, the data can be exported into CSV, I just thought someone here might know of an easy/cool/well presented way of displaying that data visually?

For simplicity, grab Excel or OO.o spreadsheet.
If you want to present it on a website, look at Google's Graph API
(Argh... can't remember what it's called)

Ok, thanks. Wasn't sure if there wasn't already a tool built in that I wasn't aware of or something that was considered a defacto favourite

4:07 AM
Greg used Google's chat API, and so does some of us in the tavern

Sounds good, will stick with that
@YiJiang - Thanks!

Hrm, according to the data query, I should have the sportsmanship badge (It's returning 439 competing upvotes)... But I don't

hmmm who voted on what is not part of the data dump ...

oh...
it's not?

there would be blood

@ircmaxell No, voting is completely anon'd, even in the data dump and data explorer

fair enough

Even mods can't see that info, only suspicious activity reported by the system itself

Devs, with db access, of course can

4:15 AM
the floodgates are open ... lets see if my markdown diff allows me to make sense of what is going on

@waffles am i going to get paged?

@waffles Let's hope it's less...unpleasant....than this

@Zypher its just a run of pending-edits ... I doubt there will be much smoke

@waffles How long will it be on this time?

ahh phew ... i only like the let the smoke out of the servers in a controlled fashion

4:18 AM
@TimStone way less crazy than that ... I am doing a conservative line based diff on the markdown ... I actually like its output
even shows me when people indent stuff

Hooray! :D

@YiJiang a few hours ... depending on who is manning it ...

Because I f*%&ing hate when the revision says that five characters were added/removed and I can't figure out where the hell those characters are :(

I have an important "appointment" at the beach soon :)

4:19 AM
@TimStone amen.

So much anger! shakes fist

@TimStone yeah me too

@Zypher This is a crime against humanity and technology.

hahah yea

lol

4:20 AM
@waffles, where is the pending edits queue?

reminds me the the time i had to tape a RAID card battery down in a Dell 2850 with electrical tape

Wow, I'm averaging 25 rep per answer. That's not too bad...

@RebeccaChernoff are you IsDeveloper = true ? cause if you are you can see them in stackoverflow.com/review
I may open it up to mods as well tomorrow ...

@ircmaxell I'm only at 22.4 / answer, aw.

4:22 AM
need to find a crappy question to anonymous edit ... surprisingly hard to find off the cuff

that's not bad either

@waffles is that only deployed on SO?

@waffles Search in tags [css] [html] [jquery] [php]

@waffles are there any there now? If so, no, it seems I'm not...

@Zypher yes ... it needs to be monitored super closely

4:23 AM
What's the chitchat about now?

Ok, what am I doing wrong? I'm actually writing code and making a bit of headway ... sadly I'm about to get the "it's time to go home" lecture :\

Sure to be at least one new user who doesn't know how to format code and have half his code disappear through HTMLTidy

@waffles ahh ... not even an so mod :)

@YiJiang I started with the PHP tag and was surprisingly disappointed.

wanted to see but not that important

4:24 AM
@YiJiang I want you to be aware you have your work cut out for you tomorrow ;)

yeah ... will add that tomorrow @Zypher

returns to porting JS to ObjC

@drachenstern Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo....!!!

>_>
<_<
lol

4:25 AM
@drachenstern I phrased it incorrectly on purpose.

Yatta!
@Moshe I'm discussing something with YiJiang

@YiJiang I'm sure you'll be far ahead of me until tomorrow evening

you can look at the new diff format here

Q: What is Server.Map Method?

RajkumarHai frnds, I want to know what is server.map method what is the use of it

I'm on page 1. Uh oh. And I have a disproportionately low rep...

4:27 AM
it will probably be closed in a second though

OH HAI!

@waffles can we actually approve that from here?

damn ... somebody approved it

Or is the approval turned off?

yeah ... inline approval is on

4:27 AM
@waffles Saw it, quite interesting

A: Are the cookies for PHP sessions secure?

Alix AxelTake a look at the $secure argument of setcookie(): secure Indicates that the cookie should only be transmitted over a secure HTTPS connection from the client. When set to TRUE, the cookie will only be set if a secure connection exists. On the server-side, it's on the programmer to...

I like that
that'll be nice

See the rooks comment to that

but you cant actually find the posts at the moment ... they will live in the review route

Can I try out something? But it isn't turned on for MSO... no sandbox to test

4:28 AM
The question has no tags now?

hits the home key and waits until next time

BAD
turning off anon edits

@waffles hey can you round up another one? I wanna see something ... :\

no ... bad bug ... must be fixed

oookay

4:29 AM
@TimStone Wow... how did that happen?

Hey congrats there Moshe
You'll be caught up with me in no time

@YiJiang See above :P

Hehehe

thanks for reporting that bug though ... cheers

Uh oh @drach. I blame 3G data.

4:31 AM
nods

@waffles lemme know when it comes back on, need to re-review that window and don't want to dig through source atm
"need" sounds so wrong there ... I want to re-review it?

k

@YiJiang Do you know the answer to this?

> in good standing with more than 10,454 reputation may nominate

Actually, I guess that makes sense right?
Or no..hm.

4:33 AM
I think that's a browser issue
I generally notice that it loads the dom first, then processes images in

@TimStone Answer to his number 2 question is simple

actually that seems right

The first however, hmmmm...

@YiJiang Yeah

Ok, bed time. good night all...

4:33 AM
G'night

Answer to second question would be to simply delay loading/execution of js till images are loaded, but the first...
Need to look into some specs, probably
Not even sure if its defined anywhere

ok, I put my take on that page, feel free to correct me
> thank u for ur advice...but keep urself i m not need this one sorry
what?

Q: What is Server.Map Method?

RajkumarWhat does the method Server.Map do, and what is it used for?

Does that even read as English?

@drachenstern Not particularly, no

Thanks, but keep your advice to yourself, I don't need it? :P

@TimStone I think that's what he meant, that's how I parsed it ... it's evident he does need help somewhere, I think he didn't expect it to actually get closed
I was trying to help him out

4:39 AM
The last sentence could be read as "I don't really need an answer to this question"?

It's hard to tell if he was talking to you or the first commenter.

"Keep your comments to yourself" isn't something I'd see new English speakers use

@YiJiang but it could be "I don't need the link you provided"
That's true too @TimStone

WTMF is this? w3.org/Style/CSS

@TimStone The W3C's homepage for CSS
Not all W3C pages have the same quality

4:42 AM
I know, but...
CSS!

Shame really, Airbag Industries should've given the entire site the same overhaul

Also, I'd be afraid to show myself in a photo if I accomplished so little in over ten years. coughs

@TimStone wow ... wow ... wow ... but you're right of course

These guys redesigned the W3C 's homepage, amazing, right?

Q: Asp.Net Session Variables not being abandoned when browser window is closed?

DDiVitaThis is a strange issue and not sure what is going on. I am using IIS7 and .net 4.0 to being. In .net 3.5 and iiS6 I used to use this and it worked fine: Response.Cache.SetCacheability(HttpCacheability.NoCache); Response.Cache.SetExpires(DateTime.Now.Subtract(new TimeSpan(1, 0, ...

@YiJiang considering it still hasn't loaded :\

@drachenstern Eh? It loaded almost instantly for me

@YiJiang I see a spinner still on chrome
retry and it came up

Weird. The page isn't very big - there's a large image of the redesign, and the bg image is probably a little big, but that's all

yeah, seemed decent
I see what you mean about the redesign

The design itself isn't very amazing, but technically it's very very good. Fluid grids, wow

4:51 AM
Ok, time to test the page for the method that I've never written before tonight in my life, and see whether it works as advertised on the tin.
Hello world of TableValuedPairs
and kaboom
let's try that with the right variable names ... :\
nm, trying again
huzzah

I have no idea what happened, but hooray!

singapore has the best weather in the world .. its 30degC through the year :o

@Reno Not really, you can't go anywhere outdoors without working up a sweat

Ugh nested JavaScript functions. Terrible in objective-c. And, that's assuming that the C implementation of` floor()` is the same as JavaScripts.
Can anyone confirm?

...Wha?

4:59 AM
Humidity is much better than dry weather .. or thats what i feel

Is the C 'floor()' the same in JS?

@Moshe it should be yes
@Reno that's true

Ok thank you.

@TimStone I was able to post that image for your viewing pleasure

I wish I could post what some of this looks like. It's obscene code.

5:02 AM
You could you know ... we don't really have much chance of being able to exploit it for either monetary purposes or personal gain

@drach, the code is on my MacBook and my Internet connection is on my phone.

Wifi hotspot using mobile AP if you have android

iPhone 4

Ahhhh, then in that case, take a picture

How would I upload it?

5:07 AM
Seriously, what're we going to do with the information you show us?
You don't like iOS do you?
there's an app for that ...

I don't have a problem posting it. I just don't know how.

do you have an Instagram account? Photobucket? Twitter?

Ah twitter... True.

Those are the three that I have that let me upload them
I'm sure there are a lot more

...wait for it...
Porting code. (JS -> ObjC) Yay! http://yfrog.com/hs6rfttj http://yfrog.com/h2wozdpj
Those two links. Compare JS to Objective-C. The NSNumber and stuff, I wondering if I'm doing it right.
@drach does that tweet work?

5:18 AM
I see two images ;)

See the differences between the languages?
And the obscenity of the nested statements?

I think you're doing fine the way you're going.
I like the expansion of the method names
There's a reason everyone likes js ... it's terse and does it's job well
I'm waiting on node.js to really take off
I might do my next personal server project in node.js just for S&Gs

?

I would advise you, as one professional to another, to skip that // </rant> block in there. I'm sure it made you feel good to write it like that. But take it out.

Oops!

5:21 AM
@Moshe I mean the terseness of js compared to the longwinded expansion of the ObjC code
lol, seee ;)

Appreciate it. And yes, true.

But I think your conversion looks fine
and a few regex replacements might get you done a little faster ;)
but I've only had about 50% success with that

Thank you. My next function is supposed to create an objective C date from integers...

ok peoples, time for bed, or at least for moving to where the dogs are so I can walk them and pretend I'm getting ready for bed

Not as simple. On the bright side, I'm almost done.
Nite. Thanks.

5:23 AM
G'night

well I'm sure I'll poke back in once or twice more tonight ;)

Ah, alright :P

Ugh no clue!
Wonders how essential this method is

May have just figured out a bug three minutes after leaving ... Turn back or press on ??? Grrr typecasting bugs :/
Hello police loitering in front of my building ...

Good times, good times.

5:34 AM
I'm sure
Looks like a drug search
Ah well
Man what I would give right now to have a two screen setup upstairs with a decent box underneath and I would work from home another four hours :/

morning all, what have I missed?

Blathering and hardware bashing mostly

@Benjol I'm building a automated version of your spreadsheet
Sort of, hmmm...

@YiJiang, that's excellent, did you see the answer to that question? There are some badges which are worth including too.
And did @Aiden withdraw or get bumped because of his rep?

Yeah, I'll see what I can do
@Benjol Withdrawn I think

5:42 AM
OK, I'm very concerned that with just using rep as a criteria, we could end up with a high-volume questioner, who's never set foot in meta, never voted, and never edited anything :(

@Benjol Already noted, Polly opened up a question last night
24
Q: IT'S OVER NINE THOUSAND!!!! (elections available only to high rep users)

PollyannaI am worried that the moderators can now only be selected from those with 10.3k reputation. I understand that we must limit our options using some method, as too many choices would make this process more difficult. However: Very high rep users are not any more likely to moderate than those in...

this is not fair, everyone should have a chance of being miss unicorn

You know, when porting, it's a good idea to save and attempt to compile occasionally.

@YiJiang, did you tag the Pekka conversation, or had it already finished when I left?

@Benjol I didn't bookmark it, no
Not sure when you left though

5:50 AM
ok, and how far is your automated spreadsheet along? :)
@YiJiang, no worries, I'll go checkout the transcript

It's not actually an automated spreadsheet, it really is just a HTML page with some JavaScript accessing the API for info

I hit the rep cap for my question yesterday ;)
ah, ok... so it'll be ready in 6 to 8 weeks :)

@Benjol But of course! Nah, it's here right now, you can have a look: dl.dropbox.com/u/1722364/Stack%20Overflow/Elections/…
2
Haven't included all information yet, and getting associated accounts with the API is a bit of a nightmare

what do you order by?

@YiJiang still its pretty wicked

5:54 AM
I got total rep across all sites by using stackflair, manually :)

@Benjol awesomeness

@Benjol The API default orders by the user id, apparently
Didn't bother to reorder them in any way. Will probably include sorting later on

@YiJiang, In order of priorities, I'd say meta participation and SO badges was more important than SE accounts,
@YiJiang, I'd say either you sort them by the order they arrived, or random (possibly better)
@YiJiang, does this mean I can stop updating my file? :) Or will you blow your api limit if everyone starts refreshing your page?

@Benjol It won't - the page is entirely client side JavaScript
I feel kind of guilty, actually

and why?

5:57 AM
The correct thing to do would be to use a server-side script to grab the data, cache it, then use that info to display this

Don't feel guilty, you're working for free to do what SO devs should have done themselves :)
or you feel guilty technically?
Can you include upvotes/downvotes?

@Benjol Yes, that. Right now it's all client side, which means that it's really a terrible waste of resources if a few thousand people try to access it at once
@Benjol Upvote downvote count by the person? Sure

I'm just reading the comments on the answer to my question:

The api has all of the info you see on the profile pages, and then some

A: Moderator nomination possibly useful statistics

chrisaycockI think anyone who wants to be a moderator should have demonstrated extensive participation in SO already. That includes voting, making useful comments, editing, etc. I believe anyone who has trouble with those duties is going to struggle as a moderator. Is there a way to collect stats on these? ...

> I'm strongly in favor of seeing both total numbers of votes as well as the ratio. Personally, I'm looking for a moderator that has voted a lot, and has not been afraid to downvote.

6:00 AM
Fair enough, will add

And I'm wondering about "rep/post"

@Benjol Amount of rep generated per answer/question
A rough sign of the quality of the person's posts

Yup, I think that's a valuable metric
precisely
this is gonna be good :)

Of course, an asker is going to be discriminated here, since questions generate less reps by default

That aside, your se accounts problem could be solved just by sticking a stackflair in there, is that possible dynamically?
though that would hit the server AGAIN :)

6:02 AM
@Benjol Well, lemme see...
@Benjol Meh, the flair is 24h cached

oh, well that's ok then.

The API data is live, however

yeh, but we don't care about +/- a day for the data, I'd say.

(I've already signed up for an API key, heh, so the restriction is not very tight here)

usually short precise answers gets more reps , the long ones are tl;dr-ed , it works though, I bet the guy on the top will be a superhuman geek

6:04 AM
@YiJiang, if you're really worried about hitting the server too much, you could always save as html every hour or so, and stick that on the server. Once the nomination period is finished, the data shouldn't move anyway - don't want crafty nominees going and signing up to ALL the SE sites :)

@Benjol Hahaha, yeah, that's another option

@Reno, no the super human geek hasn't nominated himself :)

@Benjol The Superhuman Geek :P

Anyway, if you could pull out the badges too, but where badge is in [Strung and White, Copy-Editor, Pundit (maybe), Electorate (Maybe), Civic Duty, Sportsmanship] and whatever that badge is you get for deleting your own answers ;)

@Benjol I'll look, but hang on, too much to process here :P

6:07 AM
Yeah i hope he does not wear his undies over his pants while browsing SO

@YiJiang, you want a feature list? :)

When has a dev ever turned down a spec list?

I miss google wave , that was the thing for collaborative editing

Ok, coming up :)

Gah, I messed it up, again

6:16 AM
eh, yeah, you're now scraping the users page? :)
I started scrolling down and thought "wow, the heavyweights have turned up" :)

@Benjol No, the script isn't using the correct route, it's grabbed the 'list of all users ordered by reps' instead

Are you ready? :)

Yeah, hit me

1. Random sort, or by order of nomination
2. upvotes, downvotes and ratio
3. rep per answer/question
4. SO badges where badge in [Strung and White, Copy-Editor, Pundit (maybe), Electorate (Maybe), Civic Duty, Sportsmanship]
5. Meta participation: rep, questions, answers
6. SO Chat participation : rooms, posts, last seen
7. Meta Chat participation : rooms, posts, last seen
8. Include StackFlair?
9. Don't expose live version, just saved-as-html

Okay, fair enough

6:20 AM
sort of in order of importance, but I'm a developer, I don't mind if you do the easiest bits first :)

The vote ratio and rep per post should be easy to do, badges not very sure, Meta participation is weird
Random sort is most important? Okay, fair enough, that one's easy

it's currently inverse order of SO_Id

@Benjol Yeah, the API returned in id order, and habitually I did a reverse loop on it

@drach - last function!

6:23 AM
Woohoo

Up to the last function/method/message code thingy! http://yfrog.com/h2rozfj
Then I need to figure out what to do with this library and what appropriate unit tests will be.
False alarm, there's a nested
Function. Ugh.
It's a in the last line and I can't read
It! Too much going on...

@YiJiang, more for you to ponder (not sure how)
> Basically I'd want to see which silver and gold participation badges a nominee has

@yijiang what does sum() do in JS?

@Benjol The fanatic and enthusiast badge, right?
@Moshe Eh... I don't think Math.sum exists...? Let me check

@YiJiang, Dunno exactly what he means... if anyone else here is listening they can chip in too.

6:37 AM
It's used here...

I still think the badges we mentioned are useful. And the overall rep/goldbadge ratio is interesting to look at (I don't mean you need to code it, but skimming the list there is quite a variation)

Badges aren't as important

@Moshe Hmmm, no, there's no Math.sum - he must be using his own function

> Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10_5_7; en-us) AppleWebKit/530.17 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Safari/530.17
Apparently my phone pretends it's a Mac to get non-mobile webpages

See that image.

6:40 AM
@YiJiang, don't bother with that last comment, I think it's ok as it stands, we have number of badges, and main tags.

@Moshe He defined his own function - all native math functions are in the Math global object

Ok, can I assume that he is just adding the values there?

@Moshe do a search for all sum( in that and the associated js files
@Moshe that's what most people do with sum()

It's nowhere to be found. I suspect that this code is half the story.
hopes he is wrong
So can anyone give me a clear idea of the line of code in that image?

Either that, or it's a very special runtime that defined those functions for him. But even then it should be extending the Math object instead of throwing those functions into the global space...

6:43 AM
No better than you can do yourself

> Snapdragon ARM Cortex-A8 microprocessor clocked at 1 GHz and an embedded Adreno 200 graphics chip capable of up to 22 million triangles per second
:plays Angry Birds:

Wow. I think I'm done. Now I need to get in touch with the original author and ask him how to use the library. I don't see any main entry point function. No unit tests either.
Yay! Finished!
Night all!
Oh, there's more to the story. I'll explain later.
@Dan what phone?
Ah, Evo.
copies code to USB flash drive

I just realized, rep per post isn't very good - I'm taking only rep / (answer + question), but this ignores things like bounties

@Dan consider my first aftermarket video card had 7mill triangles per second

I don't remember anything I owned before this
The RIVA TNT2 was a graphics processing unit manufactured by Nvidia starting in early 1999. The chip is codenamed "NV5" because it is the 5th graphics chip design by Nvidia, succeeding the RIVA TNT (NV4). RIVA is an acronym for Real-time Interactive Video and Animation accelerator. The "TNT" suffix refers to the chip's ability to work on two texels at once (TwiN Texel). Nvidia removed RIVA from the name later in the chip's lifetime. Overview The TNT2 core is almost identical to its predecessor the RIVA TNT, however updates included AGP 4X support, up to 32MB of VRAM, and a process shrin...
