4:00 PM
@Diago Actually, you did. I feel like I was about to say something, but I can no longer remember it.

Well, I just finished describing the silence in my campus in 500 artfully designed words..
I feel so accomplished..

Those unicorns, they have touched my heart

@Chacha102 ... what?

I will now go out and spread rainbow joy to the world!

I had to write 500 words that described the campus in between classes
I don't know what that has to do with Journalism, but I had fun making an army of sidewalk pavement and trash cans

4:05 PM
@Chacha102 Ouch, LOL

@Chacha102 Weird. I remember my J-classes, and I never had to do anything like that.

@PopularDemand No trash strewn around your campus then :-)

> The metal bins crouch with their mouths wide open, like a tiger watching its prey. Each one adorned with different tribal paint, they wait patiently for their mid-day meal of pizza boxes and finished hummus packs.

@TheUnhandledException Competent journalism teacher, actually.

4:06 PM
Serious, we were nationally ranked.

Maybe we could start a room for Chacha to help us with our writing.

> The cold, sullen sidewalks glide into a gentle rest as the morning begins. Every once in awhile, a foot or two walks by, awakening each from its sleep. After the disturbance is gone, they slowly fall back to sleep, only to be awaken again in the near future.

@Chacha102 awakened
Other than that, I like your style @Chacha102 :-D

> Suddenly, a shrill battle cry rings throughout the ears of the inhabitants of the school. Doors fling open, being slammed against the wall with no regard for its handles surface. Sidewalks tense up as hundreds of foots run across them.
@TheUnhandledException I'm not writing something in the past
it is in present tense
actually..
yeah, that might work better

to be awakened
not to be awaken
(right?)

4:09 PM
That sounds much more like creative writing class.

yeah, that works better
well, my gradebook says 'Journalism'..
> As quickly as it began, the commotion ceases. Door shut themselves tightly. The metal bins slowly chew and digest their food. The bars return to their state of attention. Each mending their wounds, preparing for the next battle.

@PopularDemand Agree. But I like @Chacha102 's writing :-)

I'll post the full thing on my blog..

share a link please @Chacha

@Chacha102 its

4:11 PM
@PopularDemand You mean "Each mending its wounds"?

@TheUnhandledException Yeah.

Thought so. I think you're right there

It's a fragment anyways. But I'm not sure how much editing help is being requested.

"Each mending their wounds" would be if each one is mending the woulds of the group, I think
@PopularDemand Me neither, but fun to critique

4:14 PM
nice catch @HoxLyxVierx

note it hasn't been editted.

@Chacha102 Would you like edits?

if so I have a few

@PopularDemand Sure, I got time

but you have to tag the post [homework] first ;-)

4:15 PM
I just fixed the paragraph about the aroma

Well, I wouldn't be doing it right now.

> As quickly as it began, the commotion ceases. Door shut themselves tightly
Door -> Doors

done
@PopularDemand Whenever you do them, just bookmark them as a conversation and I'll look at them

> Sidewalks tense up as hundreds of foots run across them.
foots? :-)

@Chacha102 Alright.
Good excuse to learn the "conversation" feature.

4:17 PM
feet... :)
but yeah, thats what I did in 40 minutes this morning

How do you use the conversations feature?

...................

@balpha awesome video by the way :-)

@Chacha102 Yes, please forgive my ignorance

@Chacha102 I haven't any cake.

How to use bookmarks

Bookmarked 10 secs ago by Chacha102

It walks you through it once you pick "create new bookmark" from the room menu
@PopularDemand Cake appears after you've made the bookmark

@MichaelMrozek and @Chacha102 -- Thanks

nom nom nom

4:20 PM
@Chacha102 cake dissappears
@Chacha102 Then does it just track replies to the original thread?

no

it doesn't do anything after that
it just allows you to reference a period of chat messages

Ok. So it's just like grabbing a handful of messages

ya

4:21 PM
Got it. Thanks
Can anyone create a conversation in any room?
And, can they be deleted?

Yes
So someone changed my Happy hour to happen once a week

One of the mods did after general complaints about it popping up every day

@MichaelMrozek WTF? it is The Tavern, after all
:-)

@TheUnhandledException thanks

4:24 PM
There's my rationale for wanting to move to chat.SO -- the general room will be named "General"

The Tavern fits in very well for a Meta general room
This place is quite suitable, always a rowdy festival of crazyness in here :-)

@TheUnhandledException Nah. Should have been The Waffle House or The Unicorn Stable or something else that non-regulars would mock.

SO's General room will be a lot more mundane I think
@PopularDemand True. Every time I drive by the plethora of local Waffle Houses I think StackOverflow

@AidenBell we're not lawyers so that's none of our business. If he's being stupid, let the responsibility lie fully on him

We really will star anything won't we?
4

4:27 PM
@TheUnhandledException I see through your paltry attempt to get a starred post.

@PopularDemand Actually, that was not. I have many examples of such behavior, but that was not one of them
Damnit, whoever starred that, UNDO IT!

@starrer(s): stop enabling him!
3

Will there be a Tavern type room on the SO chat site as well?

Make a liar our of me will you?
@LasseVKarlsen If so, it won't be nearly as much fun

Guess not

4:28 PM
@LasseVKarlsen We can only hope not.

@PopularDemand Plural, please :-(

make the nethack line fall outside the starred list and I'll raegquit!!

@radp It's still safe for a while, there are one-starred posts above it.

And there he goes
Who knew it was that easy getting rid of him
I think The Tavern should host some theme-based events

One of the mods did after general complaints about it popping up every day

4:31 PM
... like "talk like a pirate" day, or twitter-eXtreme (only messages of 40 characters or less)

@LasseVKarlsen OK. I see what you mean
I'm all for "Talk like a pirate day"

Or, DiNozzo-day, everything you say have to be some line from a movie

Arrr, I hate talk like a pirate days, mateys

@JohntheSeagull Not buyin' it.

status-declined

4:38 PM
@PopularDemand not sellin' it, y'know. I can haz enough coin already
now that'd be fun, a talk like a piratelolcat day

head explodes

ahoy @Fosco
likez lolkatpiratez?

ahoy

a couple of my friends got married on talk like a pirate day. the best man's speech was just about in pirate-talk

I guess we non-US people miss out a lot of the 'fun' in that

4:44 PM
@rchern Assuming it wasn't a pirate-themed wedding: did they throw him out?

@PopularDemand or made him walk the plank?

@JohntheSeagull Many US people do, too :-)
I heard on the news today tehre was a major rush of people getting married yesterday, 10/10/10
one person was like, "I just knew it was meant to be! He must be the right guy for me!"
WHAT??? Because you got married on some arbitrarily decided day? =b

I agree, it's all a load of old tosh. Dates/time are all relative anyway

"Daddy, why did you and Mommy get married?" "Well, you know how sometimes two people love each other very much? In this case, it was because the date happened to be neat-looking. Both are good reasons"
4

they'll probably be divorced by 11/11/11

4:54 PM
@Feeds! Where have you been all my life???
Thank god you're here now

I sure with intellisense was better and more consistent.

Is that a Lithp? :)

@TheUnhandledException Yeah, good luck with that. Feeds rarely ever talks.

@PopularDemand Antisocial, probably
Anyone seen The Social Network?
If so, is it recommended?
(Or, has anyone seen Let Me In? Is it recommended? Looks like a cheap knock-off of the original)

Speaking of which, anyone seen the new TV series that have started in the US? "The Event"?

5:01 PM
@LasseVKarlsen Not I

You know, for once I'm a bit happy that people that have been through something is given the chance of a book-deal

@Feeds do you only talk when there's something in it for you?

Just read online that the mine-workers in Chile, was it? Might be rich from book-deals

@LasseVKarlsen They hopefully will be rescued Wednesday

Yep
Well, I'm going to watch the first episode of The Event now

5:05 PM
That's the worst so far

Oh holy crap
This doesn't promise good for the series, if special effects in the opening episode is this ... good

Problem is that the script is worse than the SE the first episode, but it gets better

eh, i'd say don't waste your time shrugs

5:22 PM
Go, Regulators, go!

Ey, nice, new iAssociate2 out in a few days

@rchern With The Event?

it's decent i guess, but eh.
just my opinion of course
996,182
o:

Ok. Wasn't sure if you were talking movies

hmm, how cached is that number i wonder

5:33 PM
What number is that?

questions on SO
but i refreshed and saw new questions and the number didn't change

That shouldn't be cached, I wouldn't think. Isn't COUNT(*) supposed to be fast?

oh blah, i was on active not newest tab. that's probably why

this proposal will be deleted tomorrow if no further activity takes place

how do you know?

5:38 PM
"last activity: 29 days ago"
proposals idle for 30 days are automagically pruned :)
...I guess however I'll just flag it as subset of game and gamedev

ah hehe
hrm. number still didn't change

@rchern :-(
Not sure why not

@TheUnhandledException Someone has money on when the seventh digit flips from 0 to 1.

Q: Contest to predict date and time that stackoverflow will eclipse 1,000,000 questions

PollyannaStack Overflow has just under 750k questions right now. It's gaining at a pace greater than 2k questions per day, so the 1,000,000th question will likely occur prior to mid October - perhaps as early as the two year anniversary of leaving beta. I don't have a prize in mind right now (Maybe stac...

@PopularDemand I remember that, LOL

5:41 PM
The number is only 980,378 for me

o:

"
996,197

questions
"

If it's the number on the right on stackoverflow.com/questions you mean

aye
yeah, i see 996197 now too but another question was just added and no jumpy-jumpy lol

Yeah, OK, I was on the "Hot" tab
apparently 16K of those questions are, well, not so hot

5:44 PM
lol

The rollover will happen 18 hours and 33 minutes from now, that should be... carry the one... 14:16 tomorrow, my time

@LasseVKarlsen I smell a Cold Case spinoff in the works!

haha, someone added a new question to the Emoticon proposal

@PopularDemand Cold Question: The Hunt for the Tumbleweed Badge

A whole site about emoticons?
Like that's going to fly

> and why not to use backwards smileys should be removed. – rchern 22 hours ago
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA -- That has made my day
but seriously a SE site about emoticons is so silly :-)

@TheUnhandledException And yet, I got NotAGoodExample-ed.

gee, really? (;
ha, on which question?

5:52 PM
@PopularDemand I don't even want to grace these "answers" with any votes, LOL

@TheUnhandledException What answers?

haha, i voted good example on that yesterday (;

@rchern Yeah, I could see there being legitimate cultural differences to be explored, or similar.

@TheUnhandledException yeah, originally it was and why not to use backwards smileys and then it was and when to use backwards smileys and then taken out

@PopularDemand sorry, questions

5:55 PM
@TheUnhandledException Then fie to you, sir.

Well I'm off to find some food and probably catch a movie. See you guys later!

@TheUnhandledException what movie?

Probably Let Me In
Maybe The Social Network
Depends on how I feel when I get there, they start within 5 minutes of each other :-)

Tim
@TheUnhandledException Enjoy! I heard that The Social Network wasn't too bad, actually, but I've yet to see it myself.

@Tim Thanks. I've heard it's less-than-nice to Mr. Zuckerface
