I can do a southern accent, a western accent, and the eastern dialect, along with 'common civilized Dutch'.

Pfft

@Tinkeringbell not all at the same time I hope.

I can do so many accents I dunno what normal sounds like

In any other language I can mimic the accent of the person I speak too, with a Dutch accent ;)

Whispers HALP

8:01 PM
:D

@Ollie Hmm, I think you could mix them up XD

@Tinkeringbell Pfft, I can imitate myself

@Tinkeringbell it would sound awful.

@M.A.R. Like Scottish

Ouroboros

8:02 PM
@Ollie of course it would!

@Mithical No one can do Scottish

Can anyone do Latin?

@M.A.R. Scottish people can?

Despite it being a dead language.

8:03 PM
@Ollie veni, vidi, vici?

@Tinkeringbell A common urban legend
@Ollie Maybius

Veni vidi foetsie: I came, I saw, I disappeared ;)

@DavidPostill Seems like today is 明け's lucky day.

No, I saw, I came, I conquered...but only for the weekend.

@Tinkeringbell Is this an LOTR reference

8:05 PM
I can actually decipher a tiny bit of latin sometimes, because we got French in highschool and some roman language things are still very similar
@M.A.R. eh, mostly not, I think. Sorry to disappoint :)

Et tu, Tinkere?

Of course #metoo!

:/

:\

@Mithical how do you move things to the trash bin?

8:08 PM
@Mithical ?
@Ollie You have to be an RO or a mod

Damn.
@SmokeDetector move @Tinkeringbell to the trash bin.

@Ollie What, users would have the ability to troll everyone by moving their messages here and there?
Hmm, tempting, tempting

@Ollie Latin is not a dead language.

@DavidPostill no?

8:09 PM
> The Holy See, the entity with authority over the state (yet legally distinct), uses Latin as its official language.

It's undead

@DavidPostill Ah.
@M.A.R. Dodgy.

Good dodgy, good boi

@Ollie aww, thanks for calling me trash. Much appreciated to be finally recognized :P

@Tinkeringbell oh no, I didn't mean that. @SmokeDetector did that to me once.

8:10 PM
@Tinkeringbell It's simply another way of saying you're treasure

@M.A.R. trashure.

Now I wanna be called trash too

@SmokeDetector move @M.A.R. to the trash bin.
@SmokeDetector Please?

Ya come on Smokey, I've been waiting for this a looong time boxing gloves

8:12 PM
@Mithical a racoon? The Trash Panda?

No fighting with the bot unless you're a bot too and it's robot wars.

@LocutusofBorg brews a cup of passionfruit tea for @LocutusofBorg

Some trivia: The Vatican City is also home to the world's only automatic teller machine that gives instructions in Latin.

8:13 PM
Oh, a hedge knight's shield

sdc tea @literallyeveryone.

@Ollie brews a cup of earl grey tea for @literallyeveryone.

I'm not a tea lover in the 5th country with the most tea consumption in the world

@Ollie Yes, the joke being raccoons love trash.

The confusion is understandable

8:14 PM
@DavidPostill now I'm being sad I didn't take latin and greek in highschool

Gratin and Leek.

@Tinkeringbell Yeah the Pope is probably fun to hang around with if you could talk to him
Lotsa stories

might slap you though
lesson: don't tug on the Pope

@M.A.R. of course he'd be!

@Mithical I take it you speak from experience? :D

8:16 PM
*squint*

I've never been slapped by the Pope, if that's what you're asking.

@Tinkeringbell that is potato and leek gratin right there. :D

It doesn't really look nice, to be honest

@Tinkeringbell Probably not as fun as a Shaolin master.
@Journeyman's seen one, you should ask him
They're so humble yet they will kick your ass

8:17 PM
I might. If I'm bored

Humbly

@Mithrandir24601 was the Shoalin-in-training

@Tinkeringbell it's the closest thing to Latin and Greek I could get you.

@Tinkeringbell well probably a better option for starting a philosophical discussion

It's past 10PM. No philosophy or I can't sleep

8:19 PM
The Eurasian ruffe (Gymnocephalus cernua), also known as ruffe or pope, is a freshwater fish found in temperate regions of Europe and northern Asia. It has been introduced into the Great Lakes of North America, reportedly with unfortunate results, as it is invasive and is reproducing faster than other species. Its common names are ambiguous – "ruffe" may refer to any local member of its genus Gymnocephalus, which as a whole is native to Eurasia. == Description == The ruffe's colors and markings are similar to those of the walleye, an olive-brown to golden-brown color on its back, paler on the sides...

Don't tug on ruffes

also known as ruffe or pope

Don't pop on ruffes
Don't ruff things up
Steals the Pope's pipette and pipe to pop plops in the pub tub

@M.A.R. the Pope is cross at you.

It's OK, we have the crescent

8:25 PM
@M.A.R. What does that actually represent and how did it came to be the counterpart of a cross?
That's one part they skipped on high school world religions

@Tinkeringbell well, the international organizations are the red cross and the red crescent for Muslims, I have no idea if they're collaborators or parts of the same organization

The star and crescent (☪) is an iconographic symbol used in various historical contexts, but is best known as a symbol of the Ottoman Empire and Turkey. It is also often considered as a symbol of Islam by extension. It developed in the iconography of the Hellenistic period (4th–1st centuries BCE) in the Kingdom of Pontus, the Bosporan Kingdom and notably the city of Byzantium by the 2nd century BCE. It is the conjoined representation of a crescent and a star, both elements have a long prior history in the iconography of the Ancient Near East as representing either the Sun and Moon or the Moon and...

@M.A.R. I got that far... The crescent is presented as the counterpart to the cross here, I was wondering why ;)

@Tinkeringbell They couldn't use the symbol representing he Crusaders ...

@DavidPostill XD that's a probable one ;)

8:29 PM
Well, if we want to look for sources of inspiration, the cross thing is a miracle Christians believe in (or some of them), and the crescent is a thing Muslims believe in
I forgot the miracle's historical significance though. Muslims consider Quran the biggest miracle the prophet has brought forth as proof for his prophecy

@M.A.R. and we've got the red star of david here (hmm, sounds better in hebrew: magen david adom)

Too many symbols ;)

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies is a worldwide humanitarian aid organization that reaches 160 million people each year through its 192 member National Societies. It acts before, during and after disasters and health emergencies to meet the needs and improve the lives of vulnerable people. It does so with impartiality as to nationality, race, gender, religious beliefs, class and political opinions. The IFRC is part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement along with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and 192 National Societies...

It could have been an egg for all I care. I'm not sure designating religious symbols is not a slippery slope to discrimination in providing medical aid, should these organizations ever clash

I think the whole thing was that each got its own symbol to avoid people clashing over that ;)

8:32 PM
> The Red Cross is the name used in countries under nominally Christian sponsorship; Red Crescent (adopted on the insistence of the Ottoman Empire in 1906) is the name used in Muslim countries.

Probably shrug
It should be a middle finger emoji for anti-maskers

*plague rats

Also if I know my urban legends right, the red cross isn't a religious symbol: it's the inverse of the Swiss flag because someone involved with setting it up was Swiss

@DavidPostill heh, so the whole thing was just a political move to shut up and give some false pride to an already failing empire
@Tinkeringbell It's weird putting a Swiss flag on an organization that's meant to be international
Not that I'm not perfectly okay with the clockmakers taking over the world; they're probably the most peaceful and sensible people in the world right now

@M.A.R. Hey, not everything starts out international and the Geneva convention is still well known?

8:36 PM
> The design of the Red Cross originate from the First Geneva Convention in 1864. The symbol represents an inverted Swiss flag as a tribute to Henry Dunant, the Swiss founder of the International Committee of the Red Cross.
So an anti-Swiss flag, even!
Stirs up the pot

Hahaha
@M.A.R. Tell me, what was at the bottom?

@M.A.R. As someone who has Swiss nationality that is insulting. Do you even know what the Swiss flag looks like? It is not a frigging red cross

Why, is it because of the smell?
@DavidPostill It's exactly that except the colors are inverted. I apologize, I meant no offense

The flag is definitely a big plus for the Swiss

It's a frigging white cross

I don't know much about Switzerland, but the flag is definitely a big plus.

@DavidPostill Can I flag that? ;)

@M.A.R. *CC BY-SA

same difference

8:40 PM
Of course, but I'm not going to pass up a chance to bug @M.A.R.

Still stuck with Poe's law with David
@Mithical *CC-BAI-SA

I'll be going now

*slaps with trout* no

Ta!

Ciao

8:41 PM
sdc tea Tinkeringbell

@Ollie brews a cup of lemon tea for @Tinkeringbell

Eats trout Wrong choice, moral

@DavidPostill it's a wonderful white cross ;) I had already mentioned things being inversed to get the red cross symbol, MAR replied to that and cut a corner ;)

Mortal, even

Tea? At this time? Nah thanks
Byebye!

8:42 PM
There's always
🚽
Throws away Ollie's last twenty tea cups

Hah, yeah. Careful, you'll end up summoning Sha and his humor

@Tinkeringbell He doesn't show up when you expect him to to maintain an element of surprise

It's OK, you are all forgiven, as long as you agree Swiss chocolate rules :)

Of course!
Easiest apology I ever had to make :P

@Tinkeringbell You're safe and all, you feel complacent with not having to think about dirty jokes and unsanitary liquid, and then suddenly boom, he strikes. A ping you receive a day later with a urine joke

8:45 PM
Don't get the parrot started on chocolate, we'll be here all night!

@Mithical Watching her eat chocolate?

either eating it or discussing it

Googles chocolate
That chocolate cake . . .

@Tinkeringbell {whispers} Green and Black chocolate tastes better than Swiss chocolate {but don't tell everybody}

Green? Can't be!
I want those chocolates that are filled with a jelly that tastes like oranges now
@Mithical it's vacation! I'll be here all night anyways

Oh that looks nice!!!

> NEW Green & Black's Velvet Fruit - dark chocolate with a real fruit centre. Velvet Fruit expertly combines Green & Black's smooth dark chocolate with a real fruit centre; the mouth-watering taste of zesty oranges balances perfectly with the rich chocolate bringing a uniquely chocolate experience.

Do they deliver to the Netherlands?

9:07 PM
@Tinkeringbell I've seen the organic bars in health shops when I lived in NL.

@DavidPostill health shops.. hmm. Not my kind of territory

9:21 PM
@Tinkeringbell Yes. But it is expensive. 2 days £12.75 delivery charge. So you would have to bulk buy to make it worthwhile ...

@DavidPostill Oof! I'll just go to the supermarket tomorrow then ;)

@Tinkeringbell Like I said, time to visit a health shop :)

Pfft. It's too healthy!
Last time I was there they didn't even have what I was looking for.

@Tinkeringbell Just pretend organic and fairtrade chocolate is healthy ...
Unfortunately I can't remember which health shop I saw it in ... it may have been the Dutch Holland and Barrets.

Which is by now conveniently called holland and barrets too ;)

9:28 PM
It has been almost 10 years since I lived there ...

Last time I went into any of them, it's because I bought an old fashioned bar of zemelenzeep at an open air museum and was hoping they'd sell those too
No luck :(
So now I'm using a way too expensive bar of Lush soap for special occasions ;)

Anyways, enough chocolating - I'm off to bed ...

Sleep well!

Me and my brother will finish watching Theo Maassen and then it's probably bed for me too

Rob
9:35 PM
See, if you'd only bought the hundred dollar bar you'd still have chocolate (or Death by Chocolate):

That's from a month ago. That would be gone by now
@πάνταῥεῖ everything flows, except if you ask a beaver ~ Theo Maassen ;)

Yep! He's being really funny. He's targeting panda's now ;)

Rob
Theobromine poisoning, also informally called chocolate poisoning, is an overdosage reaction to the xanthine alkaloid theobromine, found in chocolate, tea, cola beverages, and some other foods. Median lethal (LD50) doses of theobromine have only been published for cats, dogs, rats, and mice; these differ by a factor of 6 across species. At doses of 0.8-1.5 g (50-100 g cocoa) per day sweating, trembling and severe headaches were noted. Limited mood effects were shown at 250mg/day and negative mood effects above. == Chocolate == === In humans === Cocoa beans contain about 1.2% theobromine by weight...

@Rob I'm still here so that clearly didn't happen

9:51 PM
@Tinkeringbell You can always Neuk het systeem mentioning the right animals ;)

Coool... floats away
The quoting makes you float further.

@πάνταῥεῖ hahaha that's the worst translation I ever saw ;)

@Rob I wonder what's the lethal dose?

@πάνταῥεῖ Theo's point was that a panda was the worst kind of symbol for the WNF, because of their lack of libido: Save the animals but choosing an animal that doesn't make any effort themselves?!

Rob
~1000 mg/kg

9:55 PM
@Tinkeringbell Good point. They should choose cockroaches probably :D

Rob
@Tinkeringbell Should it have been rabbits or minks?

@πάνταῥεῖ something something about certain soccer club supporters being called cockroaches... And then a joke about how a post nuclear disaster world would only include those supporters... He beat you to it 😂
@Rob heh! An old teacher of mine would call a copy machine 'the rabbit' because of that ;)

@M.A.R. Here's a case where I wish there was something between ### and ##. The ## look quite big, especially the first one, where the title heading is longer than one line! Absolutely great answer overall though:
