@Rob Actually I didn't see that you edited the post, since your edit was made exactly 30 seconds after I left my comment and then probably went on to the next question!

@Aibobot I don't know of any problems with Gravatar. What's the problem? As for uploading images in SE, I don't think imgur is the problem, since when I upload pictures on other platforms that use imgur, I don't experience this lag!

hey regarding your recent discussion in chat and the feature request, are you trying to turn all these automatic comments-converted-into-chatrooms into something more useful or do you want to reduce their visibility?

I would probably ask "is discoverability of these chat rooms useful to anyone?"

like it should be possible to filter them out as they're not really useful as a manually created chat room, I'd say most of the time

and for the "merging" angle, consider rethinking how chat rooms could be searched for or browsed using manually added tags and automatically displayed tags from parent posts

that is if you care enough to put all this extra effort into thinking about all this and then posting more FRs on meta :p

Some thoughts on that chat suggestion:

A: Avoiding making so many new chatrooms called "Discussion between user[A] and user [B]" which later become frozen or not very useful

Folks seem to be focusing on the Q&A->Chat angle here. Which is... Understandable, but... Has never worked particularly well. Comments have needed a redesign for 8 years, and no amount of delicacy when it comes to the use of chat will make that less so. Also... That concern is entirely irrelevant...

I think threaded discussions are a better solution to some of the problems, while comments and chat still have their place to solve their own problems

if comments were threaded too, "dumping into chat" would not be so much of an issue if the reply hierarchy was retained

in our private Q&A site we implemented threaded comments so it would be easy to collapse "solved/sufficiently addressed" threads about typos, clarifications, etc, so they can still be accessed and not step on each other under the relevant post

SO is too big to move fast in this regard

it's probably easier to wait for the next successor with all the features implemented than expect the dinosaur to evolve

@user1306322 hm, I'm wondering, possibly the issue isn't as much that there's so many chatrooms generated, but rather (and @JourneymanGeek is guilty of this :D ) using chat as a way to archive useful conversations to clean up comments
